It’s no secret that the Irish know how to party. That energy is epitomised in the bubbling scene of homegrown talent rising through the ranks all over the island. House of Disco, having recently moved back to the Irish shores, let loose their first 4 track sampler EP in 7 years, ‘Home Turf’, showcasing the best in under-represented young Irish producers.
Taking the first slot, Dublin’s LPM hones in on that signature HoD sound with some expertly interlaced late ‘70s samples, reworked and repackaged into a bomb of a filtered, disco house, hand-raiser that’s got sunshine stamped into it’s very core. Newbridge locals, Mix & Fairbanks then offer up a deep, synth-laden gem, drenched in weighty stabs, analogue melodies and squiggling top lines.
On the flipside, the young gun from Killarney, Shee gets soulful for ‘Me You Us’ with low-slung vocal samples and hazy pads layered over the top of swirling disco loops. Lastly, Wicklow native Purple Ice signs off this killer Irish EP with a blissful, piano infused groover that’s eyes closed ecstasy from start to finish.

The proceedings open in superb style thanks to The Revenge's Live Dub. A bass heavy tool with equal parts classic house and disco, with a touch of Arthur Baker-style drums. On A2, Sleazy McQueen's Space Coast take things to the basement with the help of Romano Arcaini (Latenight Society), warm rhodes, live bass and an absolute drum-break-freakout add a decidedly different dub flavor to the package. B/W Compost Black’s main man Kasper Bjorke offers his acid tinged interpretation, driven by a gritty saw-wave bass hook, rolling snare hits, wanderings arps and crunchy drums, a simply stunning piece of music as expected from the undeniably talented Copenhagen born producer. Closing out the remix EP, CVMR in-house producer, Century strips back the vibe to a dropped tempo, emotive workout fuelled be heavily reverberated piano chords, echoing vocal lines and a general chuggy, low-slung vibe throughout.

Paolo Mantini is back on Rebirth with the new composition ‘Jump Over The Hill’. Musician, poli-intrumentalist Paolo studied double bass at the Conservatory of Brescia (Italy) and attended Electronic Music Composition at the Berklee College of Music. He is also behind Clockbeats and he boasts a worldwide network of professionals within the Music Industry.
Paolo’s debut single in 2017, ’Next Generation’, remixed by Pépé Bradock, has been played and appreciated worldwide, with enthusiastic support. ‘Jump Over The Hill’ is another sublime piece of music, exploring rooted disco and funk, with a contemporary dancefloor swing, perfect to really get a party going. A killer mix of rolling drums, wobbling (rubber) bass line, jazzy chords and infectious piano lines.
We are very happy to have Dego and Kaidi aka 2000black on this project. They produce a timeless remix with their unique futuristic beats and a mix of jazz, soul and electronic vibes. Glenn Astro delivers a delightful modern jazz-synth-funk influenced version, and, included here, is also the sought after Shield re-edit of ‘Next Generation’ featuring a live drum played by Francisco Mora, known for his collaboration with Innerzone Orchestra and The Detroit Experiment, heavily supported by Gilles Peterson.

Copenhagen’s Tartelet is returning to their roots with a dancefloor-focused EP, Pizza Trance, from Dirk 81—a.k.a label head Emil M. Nyholm. Having previously dropped a slew of tracks as Muff Deep and CTEPEO ‘57 (with Max Graef), the DJ and producer is blessing the universe with three cuts of dancefloor heaven under a new moniker lifted from his days tagging concrete walls in the 90s. Influences draw everywhere from disco, to African hi-life, dub, Underworld, a few old trance records, and timeless house music.
Recorded over a year in Berlin and Copenhagen, the record kicks off with “M.F.C”, a disco-afro-house hybrid oozing with Roland Jupiter 6 keys and some funky drums processed on old equipment from the former USSR. The B-side spreads things deep and delicious with “Pizza Trance (Main Mix),” a euphoric serving of sounds that substitutes pepperonis and pineapples for glittering sequencers and a bangin’ bass drum.
The EP’s closer tastes like a bit of both, mixing up some more acid sounds into the recipe for a retro-sounding house track. It’s another tasty delight from the label that will fulfil any and all late-night cravings, especially if you fiend for Neapolitan pizza.. Leave room for seconds.

Santiago Salazar is one of the underground’s most accomplished players, having been involved with the Ican and Los Hermanos projects amongst many others. With releases on Planet E, Underground Resistance, and Rush Hour you know you can expect the finest production. His track “Espacio Profundo” is a deep, beautiful house jam with an almost disco bassline, perhaps different from what you’ve heard from him but no less outstanding.
A2. Lerosa - “Ausgang”
Lerosa has been releasing bangers through a variety of labels throughout the world, with his album on Uzuri and EP for Apartment being the most recent examples. On “Ausgang”, he creates a perfect summertime house track based around a looping vocal snippet and funky synth chords, sure to kill at outdoor sets and pool parties as well as clubs.
B1. Moonstarr - “Complications”
Moonstarr may have been relatively quiet recently, but his track record speaks for itself: releases on Sonar Kollectiv, Compost, and his own Public Transit contain many classics. For LWYF, Kevin contributes his craziest jam in a decade, “Complications”, one that is sure to be another party classic! A raved up cut with tight broken techno drum patterns, this will appeal to fans of funky dance music from bass to house and more.
B2. Jason Fine - “Bang”
Jason Fine got his start releasing music on Omar-S’ famed FXHE Records, and since then has been dropping heaters on Kontra-Musik that have been played by many top techno deejays. “Bang” explores the deeper end of his sound, with thick bass and delayed chords to create a hypnotic mood that will work wonders in late nite sets, making the heads go nuts.

Long-time house music producer, DJ and journalist Anthony Teasdale is back with a new four-track EP for London’s Pamela Records. The lead track is ‘Tango de la Boca’, an uplifting house tune with an unforgettable piano line and a groovy disco beat. Named after the barrio of La Boca in Buenos Aires, the tango feel is supplemented with layers of percussion, electric guitar stabs and moody strings. So far, it’s been played in clubs and on the radio by DJs like Rocky, David Holmes and Richard Sen. “I think this is the most uplifting record I’ve ever made,” says Anthony. “Hearing those piano lines come in on a club system is a massive buzz.” Second up is ‘A Pavement in Palma’ – a chilled jazz-house track. Inspired by lazy afternoons in Majorca’s capital, its swinging beat is joined by electric piano chords, live bongos and a bassline you can’t help but move to. On Side B, we set sail on the good ship disco for ‘Deep in the Forest Something Stared’. Opening with bucolic bird noises – referencing the title – the track adds ’80s-style bass, glockenspiel melodies and soothing strings. It ends with a haunting piano motif that’s well worth the wait. Finally, we return to 2023 with ‘It’s 5am Somewhere’, which blends old-school Roland 909 drum beats with minor chord synth stabs and rumbling piano melodies – plus an atmospheric breakdown guaranteed to excite any dancefloor. Anthony says: “The EP reflects the music I’m listening to at the moment – which goes from classic techno to uptempo disco-house (and lots of synth pop!). The fusion of beautiful, often brittle, melodies with percussive house beats sets these records apart. And they sound as good on a dancefloor as they do in headphones when you’re relaxing at home.”

Native New Yorker Son Of Sound aka Henry Maldonado returns to Delusions of Grandeur with another fine EP including two floor-friendly originals plus a stripped back remix from Aroop Roy. For those too young to have been buying records in the early 90’s Henry was a key figure, involved in seminal releases on Strictly Rhythm as House 2 House, Maxi Records as Deja Vu and MAW Records as Rhythm Section. To say this guy has history is something of an understatement having made an important contribution to the first wave of deep house with productions dating right back to ’91. More recently he has created magic for Jus Ed’s Underground Quality, Classic, Razor n Tape and Local Talk as well as establishing his own District30 imprint.

We kick off with NY Iz All I Know, a warm, soulful yet pumping slice of what can only be described as proper house music! Looped up vocal chops bounce around a classic disco groove until things breakdown into a new chord progression and saw wave bassline which add an interesting twist to the arrangement. Skin Tight drops next introducing a funk break underneath the solid four on the floor kick. One of Henry’s trademark chord progressions emerges and the elements build up around to form another masterclass in sample-heavy house perfection.

Aroop Roy steps up for the remix following a run of fine edits and originals on the likes of Freestyle, Basic Fingers and House Of Disco. NY Iz All I Know gets stripped back and pumped up, taking the key elements and adding his own disco inspired groove and Moogy synth business for a floor- pleasing gem that we’re sure will help find him new fans from across the house and disco spectrum.

After 20 years of a restful sleep, the legendary Icelandic house label has been resurrected. Three deep cuts exhibiting what is in store for the year 2022.

It begins with "Can Ride", a neo-disco anthem from former resident Justin Simmons. Nifty groove with an acid-bassline - topped with all the razzle and dazzle that is needed to get the dancefloor moving.

The flipside starts with a proper minimal percussion-driven groove from Kate & Joan, a side-project of Dole & Kom from the renowned label BCC music. The Detroit-influenced dub house anthem will, without a doubt, be a useful tool for any DJs to get the crowd going.

In My Sleep is the debut vinyl release from French producer Margee. Having gained a loyal following last summer with a remix for Tommy Guerrero, released on Music For Dreams, this EP showcases his natural ability at creating low-slung, densely layered productions, perfectly aimed at the dancefloor. The release also features two heavyweight remixes. The first of these comes courtesy of underground House legend DJ Nature, who takes the title track and gives it a completely new twist with his inimitable ‘ruff disco’ stylings. Hailing from Bristol (via New York), recent years have seen Nature release on Futureboogie, Golf Channel and Jazzy Sport. The second remix on the release comes from Hardway Bros (aka Sean Johnson). Having been an early champion of Margee’s work on his regular Alfos streaming marathons, Sean took the second track on the release, Wrong Dream, and went into heavy-dub mode. The resulting remix clocks in at just over 11 minutes and is everything you’d expect from him, and more… Margee said of the release ‘In My Sleep started while taking a shower. The bassline popped up in my mind and I ran out as quickly as possible to record it. From there, I got pulled into a deep emotional trip with groovy tones and dirty sounds. Wrong Dream is actually a lost project that I had to start over again. It turned out to be more fierce than the first one, experimenting with arps and fuzzy synths, while keeping a certain groove that was easier to reproduce.’ In My Sleep is the second release from London based label Other Goodness, following on from Bawrut’s ‘Divergent Emotions’ EP last year, which quickly became a mainstay of the live-streams and a DJs favourite.

“(Got To) Move On / Rosa Da Ribeira” continues the series of edits and remi¬xes from Stefano Tirone aka S-Tone Inc.’s latest studio album, “Body & Soul” (2020, Sccd/lp493); this 7” is also a preview of the forthcoming release of a project named “Body & Soul - The Disco Experience” where Stefano, with the help of some of his faithful collaborators, reinvents and transforms into a new boogie disco groove dress the entire “Body & Soul” LP. Both songs here combine nu-disco with late ’70s funk / soul / dance, Stefa¬no’s first real ‘musical love’: a way therefore to underline his unconditional passion for the music that represented his youth and, at the same time, the awareness of the inevitability of the modern times we live in. “Got To (Move On)” is an up-tempo song with a leading pulsating bass that sees the participation of Afra Kane, a Nigerian singer who has lived in Italy, England and Switzerland, and who gives ‘black’ shades to the songs with her splendid voice. “Rosa Da Ribeira”, sung by Toco with the additional backing vocals of Prisci¬la Ribas, Luzia Dvorek and Gui Hargreaves, shows off an exotic touch given by the Brazilian melodies and the Portuguese lyrics, and is further enriched by Gilberto Tarocco’s baritone sax and Randy Freeman’s trombone.

Luv Shack Records is celebrating 10 years with a set of classic tracks from the back catalogue getting remix treatments for todays dancefloors on the Retroscope 01 EP.

The opening track is a remix of Space Echo's "Come Back Home" by none other than Norwegian producer extraordinaire Prins Thomas. His 11 minute revision of the 2014 hit balances countless layers of funky guitar riffs, moogish leads und meticulously layered disco drums, resulting in an ever evolving trippy cosmic masterpiece.

Hot on the Heels of Prins Thomas' remix, Rotciv takes Rising Seed´s "Train to Kismarton" to Italo town, adopting only the eerie western guitars from the original, whilst building a wonky 80s sound carpet of analogue arpeggios and punchy DMX drums around it.

The Golden Boogie Connection delivers their super lush rework of Space Echo´s "Soul Power" with a tight, organic groove, witty extra instruments such as funk guitars, disco strings and beautifully light footed vocals. What a package!

Next up, Luv Shack newcomer Endrik Schroeder takes on "Wake Up" by Neon Amish & Space Echo. His remix blends the synth goodness of the original with powerful disco-house drums, unleashing a hi-energy vibe thats both uplifting and nostalgic, once encorporating the vocals of Tarek Farwati on the original remix and leaving even more room for the synth pads on the dub remix.

The 4th release on Sofia by KiNK is all about warmth. The harmonies are deep, the instruments are muffled, the rhythms are humanised. Even when some of the tracks are getting a bit aggressive, they are not hurting, but giving the right amount of energy and surprise. This record is built from some of the live streams Strahil was doing during the pandemic lockdown in April. “101 Reasons” is a track with disco epic-ness and techno attitude. It captures KiNK’s dream of being on the sweaty floor again, surrounded by dancers, one big family, like it used to be. “Dreamer” is low key house music, with melodies, leaking between the notes and the rhythms are somehow derailing, but instead of chaos, you get that dreamy feeling like if you watch a ribbon in the sky. The phenomenal Dutch artist Frits Wentink delivers a tighter version of the track with his unique swing on the drums and extra chords, which uplift the track with new energy. The closing song “Set The Mood Right” is recorded with his usual collaborator Rachel Row on the vocals. It’s a very relaxed downtempo track, which takes an unexpected turn and it’s a perfect open end for the record. A warm record for the cold days.

Sound Of Vast revisits The People In Fog ‘1977’ LP with a remix package featuring remixes from Rahaan, Satoshi Tomiie, Chida and Licaxxx.

"July 2021 saw DJ Sodeyama deliver his ‘1977’ album under the The People In Fog guise. Its a project which sees the Japanese Techno artist lean towards raw house and experimental sounds in contrast to the more techno-oriented material released under his own name. The album received critical acclaim from many leading publications and here Sound Of Vast offer up a remix package of some key cuts from the project. Chicago House legend Rahaan steps up first to remix ‘Mr. Dub’, delivering a typically disco-infused twist on the original via a wandering bass groove, resonant chimes, cowbell hooks and hypnotic synth melodies while the original’s vocal chant loops throughout the groove. Japan’s Satoshi Tomiie is up next to aptly remix ‘Less Is More’, taking a cue from the title the Tokyo-born producer and DJ delivers a reduced take on things, laying focus on spiraling dub echoes, stripped-back organic drums and subtle sub bass pulsations.

Opening the flip-side is ene Records boss and ESP Institute artist Chida who flips the switch on ‘Come To Me feat. Monkey Timers’, delivering seven-minutes of modulating arpeggio bass, saturated drums, acid bleeps and mind- altering synth textures. Tokyo Community Radio founder and a leading figure of the young generation with diversity Licaxxx then rounds out the release with her take on ‘Down The Drain feat. Sunga’, laying down a bouncy, dynamic drum groove and intricate vocal processing atop the original version’s squelchy acid line."

A few years ago, All Is Well visited his good friend Martin Iveson in the UK for a studio session. A few tracks were written in the analog lab but one especially stood out. It was the then unnamed Cosmos. A kind of Jean-Michel Jarre vs Norwegian Cosmic disco melting pot dictated by the odd nature of the main theme from the Korg Monopoly’s weird Paraphony, and rhythmically sustained by the Arp 2600 Bass line. The track was left to sleep on a hard drive for a few years but never forgotten. AIW decided to bring it back to life during the first confinement in the Spring, stripping it down to its essential message. It was a natural decision to bring it to Prins Thomas’s label Internasjonal via a common friend in Ivaylo Kolev, the label manager. Remixes comes courtesy of exile Norwegian via Berlin Telephones and label boss Prins Thomas. Both Martin Iveson and All Is Well have been releasing music since the mid 90s under different names, Martin as Atjazz and All Is Well as Fred Everything. All Is Well has been released on Drumpoet Community and Permanent Vacation."

You cannot say Nu Groove without saying Burrell. The seminal New York House label that existed from 1988 until 1992 was at the helm of a sound that was as much traditional as it was transitional. Since the closure of the Paradise Garage in 1987 and before the „NYC House sound“ was well-defined and fenced, Nu Groove was a kaleidoscope and an amalgamation of everything that informed it until then: uptempo r&b, reggae, dub, disco, freestyle, techno, jazz, and the sound that was embossed by Larry Heard in Chicago that was so well picked up in the Big Apple, you name it. Ronald and Rheji Burrell provided its basis, first floor and roof. But that story has already been told by our dear friends from Rush Hour, including its most important chapters. But we are going to tell a new one. Rheji Burrell presents N.Y. House’N Authority & The Utopia Project. Twelve tracks split over two EPs on Running Back. Named „Out of Body Experience“ and „The ’V’EP“, it features all new music that feels like modern garments cut out of a classic cloth. Almost as if the Nu Groove would have never stopped. And that it is - at the risk of self-praise - all that old or new fans and also we could hope for. Two EPs full of deep-that-doesn’t rhyme-with-sleep house music, has simple, yet clever arrangements, features jazzy sounds, but snappy drums, merry melodies and glossy grooves. Some time in 2018, the mighty AUF TOGO (members of In Flagranti and Mytron & Ofofo) met with the fierce BECKER & MUKAI (w/t members of Zongamin, Vanishing Twin, Floating Points live band, JeanGa & George) in the Sounds And Sons Studios in Shoreditch for a couple of long recording sessions, where they brought together drum machines and guitars, percussions and synthesisers.
These two outfits getting together in the studio was a match made in heaven, as one long improvised take gave way to another, each protagonist picking up a different instrument each time, recording hooks and beats and dub effects, and ultimately joined their production skills to create these four gems.
Mixing influences that run from balearic beat to the late 80’s Manchester sound, from psychedelic rock and space disco, this record is a singular piece of rugged mid tempo electronic music that works both on a dance floor in Berlin, at sunset in Ibiza or in a living room in London.
The artwork was hand-drawn by Susumu Mukai and is inspired by 90s reggae dub clashes.

Freerange regular Simbad is back with a new 4 track EP following on from his 2021 Peaceful Revolution EP which got big support from Ron Trent, Gilles Peterson, Osunlade and Horse Meat Disco to name a few. Having based himself in Cape Town the last 5 or so years, the French born producer and DJ is one of the most prolific artists in the scene having notched up countless EP’s, remixes and production work for labels like Apron, G.A.M.M. Faces, Hyperdub, Atjazz, BBE & Brownswood. His association with Gilles Peterson and Worldwide runs deep, hosting regular shows on Wwfm as well as traversing the globe delivering his unique and eclectic sets from Africa to Asia and beyond.

Lead track Nuphoria kicks things off in typical Simbad genre-bending style, sitting in a sweet spot between the Baltimore house of Karizma, the epic, uplifting techno of Laurent Garnier and the UK-centric rave sounds of Bicep and Kieren Hebden. Not an easy track to pigeon-hole but one that can’t fail to grab the dancers attention if dropped at the right time on a discerning dance floor.

Up next we have Dream featuring SA native Sanele who delivers a beautiful, raw and intimate vocal performance which fits perfectly with Simbads’ roughed-up drums and chiming Rhodes chords.

Flipping over Simbad delivers an alternate Pretoria Mix of Nuphoria which slows the pace of the original, adds a more rhythmic bassline and spoken word sample. A deeper alternative to the original which retains the euphoric quality thanks to its epic synth line and chords.

Danny Krivit is currently known as one of the music community’s greatest purveyors of top quality disco & house as he continues to perform regularly before sold-out audiences around the world. With his unique ear for what works on the dancefloor he has also become known as “King of the Re-edit.”
Danny has a deep connection to Kim English’s “It Makes A Difference” release on Nervous Records from 2006. Berlin-based synthoholic and Watergate resident Biesmans steps up for the sixth installment of Running Back's Super Sound Singles series. Taking inspiration from Confetti's 1988 new beat smash This Is The Sound Of C, Biesmans revisits his Belgian roots and reimagines three gems from Belgium's rich '80s music scene. Firstly, Biesmans gets to grips with synth pop stalwarts Schmutz and their '80s breakthrough Love Games, polishing the track up with a motorik disco sheen and chunky bass arpeggios. The remix swaps the new romantic vibe of the original for 8-bit arcade game energy, and calls to mind robotic dance moves and freeze frame video. By condensing the original to its essential vocal and synth melodies, Biesmans reconstructs a pumping 130bpm monster, certified to supercharge ravers all through the night. It rounds off a neatly balanced EP that sees Biesmans take the emotional core of influential tracks from his upbringing and put them in a different context, reworking them to share with a whole new generation.

For Chris Tooker, the first decade of his artistic journey was immersed in bands while the second was engaged in wandering the realms of electronica in the form of creator, composer and engineer for DJ duo Kmln. Today, after many incarnations, Tooker returns to the source of himself while carrying both the treasures of his past and a vision for the future. Tooker has long been called to pursuing obsessive trails through the greater cosmos. On these journeys, he seeks particles with a hypnotic essence. Once found, he interprets this magic in his own special way, through the most universal language - music. His music tells stories of fascinating adventures through the dust, the palms, and the gritty streets of yonder. It is colorful, deep, and disco laced. It flaunts rare collected percussion (delivered live in his sets), various instruments and sometimes whispers a touch of voice. Our latest “Looking for Mushrooms” EP comes to us from a collaboration between long time Dirt Crew resident Tigerskin and gifted jazz pianist and composer Grambow. We first heard from Grambow when his fluid key stylings featured on Tigerskin’s “Faint” in 2015. The title track is a suspenseful and moody journey, lead by live double bass from feature artist “Das Eb". Building in intensity with Tigerskin’s warm production and steady percussive instrumentation until Grambow’s live lead on a gritty synth growls in over the top. A true modern electronic classic as far as we are concernred. “Tsukiji” is a playful deep house groover. Balmy tuned percussion and shaken highs roll along under the light hearted piano which cruises along throughout the whole tropically touched endeavour. This track has “Party” written all over it! “Octocat” is a tougher italo disco tainted work out, tightly programmed live and analogue percussive elements push along, while wailing keys lick over a tenacious grunting bass. You can really taste and feel the long studio sessions the guys had to compose this great track. It is so much more than generic dance music. “Red Fox” is a divine culmination of the pair’s compositional prowess and dance music knowhow. A cinematic and spirited house track that glides and glistens via delicate piano, plucky percussive riffs, bright strings and woodwinds. We are very honoured to release this outstanding musical release by Tigerskin and Grambow.

Mind Eclipse completes Deetron’s triptych for Running Back. After Body Electric and Ego Rave, it’s the missing part in a tale of youthful exuberance told by a seasoned raver and transported into the here and now. Taking the essence of the carefree energy of those days, its warehouses and fields minus the (sometimes!) aural clumsiness, Deetron delivers four studies in the transformation of said emotional states. Mind Eclipse aka Trancehouzztool does exactly what it says on the tin: big synths, swirl and twirl during an extra long break down for an uproar – serotonin shower included. HG acts like an umbrella to that. Almost melancholic in its presence and meandering between highs and lows, it’s the perfect counterpoint and offset. On the other side, Phoenix sounds like a lost Border Community hymn that found its way near a Roland 909 for peak time purposes, before The Shore closes the book in a hybrid state between electro and disco or the soundtrack to IDM supporters in a gym workout (also available in an alternative version digitally for those who like their beats straight). It won’t eclipse your mind though that Deetron knows what he does in the studio, so expect finest artistry, crafty tricks and technical expertise. „’Til the sweatshirts are falling down of us“

The New World is upon us once again. It has been seven years already, since Markus Gebauer debuted on Riotvan under the guise of his New World moniker. That's quite a while in the realm of those sometimes short-term goings-on of clubculture. Yet, Gebauer kept himself busy meanwhile with his alter ego Interviews, reviving the erstwhile identity now that times are calling for a New World more than ever. And that's both, very generally speaking and particularly regarding his slick and classy approach to Neo-Disco-affairs. Interestingly, the lion's share of this EP had been laid down already five years ago, in an ahead of the curve nature that it couldn't sound more up to date right now in 2020. Take opener "Glances" for example. Suspense-packed arpeggio meets a groove-laden bass, gets kissed by some smooth melodies and far-out pads and evokes an immense open-air-hymn potential. Here's a little advance notice: that tune might not leave your head for the whole rest of the summer. "Enough!" in its seductive nonchalance seems to be cut from the same cloth. Another Indie-Disco sureshot filtered through shades-lenses. But "Enough!" - seriously? The hereby summoned feelgood-vibe will surely leave you wanting more. And more you shall get. "Fade Out" opens up with a rather straight beat-pattern, but again, the synth-arrangements, the melodies and harmonies are pure bliss. And then there is "Poéme", that Frankophile floor-enchantment, shaped out in sophistication and elegance, throwing in some subtle Depeche Mode-references and taking the French leave as one of the strongest clubtracks in this batch. Closing things up is Juan MacLean, giving "Enough!" a makeover that aims for the dancefloor as much as, let's say the hammock, infusing both, an irresistible groove and a laid back, almost Dub-like attitude.

In the constant state of flux that house and techno are in since their inception, Berlin’s Sascha Funke is at once a fixture and an emblem of the city’s transformations. Probably best-known for his work on BPitch, Kompakt or the evergreen MZ, Funke’s EP for Running Back is an amalgamation of sounds, influences and atmospheres. Subdued rave euphoria, robotic disco-influenced techno-pop and hints of Berlin’s long gone „Dubmission“ party ethics get re-arranged, extracted and reconfigured with „German engineering“ values. Take the ritual QAM for instance. Using a sample and the legendary morse melody of the weather forecast at the end of each „Tagesschau“ and putting it in a completely different context, is a prime example of a free-form approach to making music and making nostalgia future-proof. That also holds true for the rest of the EP. While titles like FEZ (Freizeit- und Erholungszentrum) or SEZ (Sport- und Erholungszentrum) refer to lost places in East Berlin, the tracks are anything but. Yearning, precisely programmed and full of joie de vivre at the same time, they all lock into and complement each other. So much, that you will find a new favorite with every listen.

Hence, you might admire our modesty to say that Roman Flügel’s first outing on Running Back in 2022 is perfectly headed. Greta, large, mighty and somewhat the love- or brainchild of his earlier Garden Party and the previous D.I.S.C.O., Mega pulls out all the stops: hi-nrg melodies, circus bells, cowboy funk and honey hooks at 140 beats per minute. While it is nearly impossible not to take this bait or decorate it with the Bobby-O medal of honor, Roman proves one more that you can be catchy and classy at the same time. Rules on the other hand, puts some of these stylistic devices in reverse or down-tempo mode and feels like brushing your teeth after an extended feast or the perfect hors d’oeuvre. Completing the picture with Film 1, Film 2 and Film 3, Flügel flexes his freethinking muscles and lands in-between art school new wave bands and soundscape science. Music that is masterly made, magical in its impact and perfectly described with a misquoted line from Get The Balance Right: it’s never predictable.

Jazzanova released their 3rd album “The Pool” on Sonar Kollektiv in 2018. It evolved from various loose jam sessions, mixing up synthesised sounds, samples and real instrumentation. Many singers where involved incl. Edward Vanzet from Australia, who was also asked to provide lyrics. Which he did creating the song “I’m Still Here” giving the tune a Yacht-rock west coast feeling. I always felt the song was one of the strongest of the whole album so I asked some peeps to do remixes for my label Best’s Friends. German A-List remixer Larse gives the whole thing a pop feeling with an Italo-disco touch in his both versions. While Winnie & Somow from Berlin go for a more organic approach looking for that sun-rise House tune on a beach-rave or wherever. Half of Tiger & Woods on a brillant release for Skylax Records. If you ever wondered what it might be like to have a 707 or a Sampler instead of a pacemaker, you could always ask Valerio del Prete aka Delphi, who has been setting dancefloors around the world on fire for years. Delphi has displayed his mastery of acidized arpeggios and deep electronic tropes via an EP on Pigna, before linking up with Roman techno don dada Marco Passarani as the discotech duo Tiger & Woods. Several EPs and two albums of stripped back disco on Editainment and Running Back encapsulate their winning approach – reimagined loops from heady discotheques mixed through the axis of Rome, Chicago and Detroit. In 2016 he released the house/Italo/EBM stomper Blue Tuesday on a split 12” on Tiger & Woods own label T&W Records. For this new release, the brilliant producer (half of tiger & woods we repeat) kicks off the show with the very Italo-discoïde "donuts for dinner", nourished throughout by a monstrous kick and soaring synths. He poses as a worthy heir to the Italian masters of 80s pop who often used the B-side of their songs to experiment with their most adventurous ideas. Zequenz immediately made us think of an imaginary orgy between Ron Hardy and the members of Kraftwerk, this sound is incredibly sharp and would not have denoted on the decks of the legendary DJ. Which leads us straight to the most brawling track on the EP, the aptly named "Ron's lesson" and it is indeed a lesson. This crazy track (obviously dedicated to the legendary chicago DJ) seems to have come straight out of an imaginary session, we must remember how much at that time naivety and therefore distortion (!) Reigned over productions, giving an incredibly raw and edgy side on the dancefloor. Again, this song could have been released 30 years ago. And finally, to come full circle, the very graceful overheat joins the aesthetic of the first track in an elegant and dreamy way. After a wafting deep house collab with fellow Italian Berlin resident Ruff Stuff, Black Loops (Ricardo Paffetti) brings Shall Not Fade a third EP of rolling, danceable house of the highest calibre. Paffetti has built a reputation as a creative, high-class producer and does not disappoint on "Circulation EP" - the Shall Not Fade regular makes tribute to classic Italian house while adding a futuristic, unique spin. The 5-tracker opens with "Mike The Dog". It's a crazy electro-garage hybrid that foregrounds frenetic drum loops, while soft lofi chords give way to a disco-like bassline, starting the record off lightheartedly. Title track "Circulation" hits with a syncopated kick and dubbed out vocals that swirl in your head, contrasting a smooth, darker sound design made for sunset dancing. Paffetti perfects a meticulous sound palette across the B-side. From "Banana 20", a pacey track lead by its squelching bassline, to "Dream2gether" - gliding lead synth, trading spotlights with the echoed vocal - these are love songs for the dancefloor. The EP closes out to "Danse sur L'Hardcore", a pumping beast of a house track studded with sparkling chord stabs and g-funk synth trills.

For their second 12", we find ourselves immersed in a solo production from Igaxx As with his contributions to the first release, we're enveloped in perfectly crafted, richly textured afrocentric deepness. With Detroit signatures, and a roots House spirit throughout, these tracks really sound timeless. Hugo Capablanca (boss man @ Discos Capablanca), met Igaxx on a recent tour of Japan as DJ unit C.P.I. After hearing the tracks, he was happy to work on this spectacular remix of 'Ugachi' clocking in at over 10 minutes and featuring poetry by Narumi HÃ©rrison (Japanese artist living in France) plus field recordings captured in Kyoto by Hugo himself. Delivering a dark and psychedelic minimal workout, which perfectly compliments the originals.

Another rubbery deep house bass takes hold of the subtle tribalism and draws you in to its hypnotism. Hot off the back of "On Top" that featured on our "Deep Love 2017" compilation, Lorenz Rhode returns to the label with his debut full length EP "Risa". A gifted musician, known for his fierce take on funk, performance prowess on German TV show "NEO Magazin Royale" and as part of Detroit Swindle's live outfit, he's sent us a three-tracker packed full of vibe and musicality. Opening the A-side "And I Said" is an uplifting, funked-up house jam. Exuberant and alive it's built around a Rhodes riff with a romantic twist, swelling stabs and straight forward percussion direct from Lorenz' collection of Roland machines. The following "Risa" is loaded with energy. A gritty analogue snare and raw drums punch as central synth lines and rippling arps ramp up the intensity to bursting. On the B1 the mysterious Amsterdam based K.98 returns with his second ever remix! After the huge success of the "Thrilogy" remix for WOLF Music in 2015, we are extremely happy to see Lorenz' original turned into a blasting 909 frenzy, 100% guaranteed dance floor action on this one! Closing we have "Xpandau", a feel-good indie/disco gem reminiscent of Lindstrøm and Röyksopp. The central lead that sounds like something sampled from a dusty African guitar recording, actually came from a vintage Oberheim Lorenz recently fell in love with. Warbling key melodies dance over the top along with tuned percussion, maintaining the light hearted, tropical tinged tone to the end.
