Despite productions appearing here and there since 2015, Yuzo Iwata has kept a relatively low output. Contributing tracks to compilations and releasing singles under aliases Fabio Lazaro and Almost East, Iwata is also affiliated with Junki Inoue's recent Saisei label, editing pioneering early Japanese techno from the likes of Suzukiski and COLOGNe for rerelease. After 'Acid House' appeared on the Butter Sessions Come Together 12" in 2020, the label now play host to Yuzo Iwata's first ever full length. The 10 tracks span a wide variety of tempos and show a consistent approach to unusual sound design first evidenced in Iwata's RA Mix of the Day for Clubberia (100% originals recorded circa 2017).

Kaizu unfolds with dense environmental ambient textures before 'Neverland' takes us into broken dancehall rhythms and acid-tinged dub. 'Funclub' is reminiscent of Japanese video game soundtracks and 80s fusion whilst further into Side A the balearic energy continues to captivate, closing with the beautiful 'Heroes Show Up Late'. This short piece is built around a looping vocal sample and shuffling drum work that all come together perfectly. There's even a trace of Brazilian MPB influence at play with the vocal/synth interplay. It's Iwata's knack for percussion that is most evident across the album however, with Side B opening cut 'Gamelion' taking an Indonesian inspired approach to modern techno. It runs in a similar vein to Komodo Kolektif's work and might be the dancefloor highlight of the whole LP. 'Sundance' follows with more Japanese motifs, recalling Haruomi Hosono's F.O.E project. Another strong rhythmic workout suited to the floor. The environmental ambient textures return with the closing piece 'Time 2 L', strings, bird calls and droning synthesiser winding down the proceedings. Letting us know it's time 2 leave?

Another EP from the vaults of West Coast rave scene specialists, Michael Kandel and Tom Chasteen. A side has two versions of a fast passed dancefloor oriented production tactfully presenting woven layers of rhythmic elements underneath dubbed out effects, “Crazy Jane” possibly channeling moments of Debbie Harris' “Heart of Glass” on LSD. B side gets more aggressive on many levels with a bit of a downtempo Gabber feel to it, raging synths and generous cymbal action all around, 3 versions, one of them featuring samples from Jimmy Stewart's 1946 monologue in “It's A Wonderful Life”, another one with very non-western elements mixed in, and finally Juan Ramos bringing a very dancefloor friendly version with a slight Euro-Dance late Hi-NRG edge to it. There are many highlights, from the opener with its rich acid deepness and subtle keys, to the energetic and deeply fulfilling ‘Flashback’ that gives a nod to Funk d’Void’s Diablo or KiNK. ‘Peace Of Mind’ features the incredible talents of the hallowed Underground Resistance ‘Timeline’ keyboard master Jon Dixon as co-writer, this combination of both musicians is an ear to behold; the piano and Rhodes playing is straight up high-tech jazz. ‘Lost In the Deep’ takes its cues from Detroit but hits different with twisting chords and grooves. ‘Whispers’ delivers the most melancholic deepness on the LP, whereas ‘Sunshine’ is pure out and out happiness with its twisting chords and a firm foundation in Detroit. Written on the first sunny day after the winter, you can hear the breath of relief within the track. ‘Rendezvous [Finale]’ is the 3rd and final version of a cut that’s had a long and satisfying journey. Originally released on Carl Craig’s Planet E in 2006, it was then formatted into Afro House for Osunlade’s Yoruba Records in 2018, and in ‘22 this new version was debuted for Carl Cox’s Birthday at Dc10 in Ibiza for Vince’s live set. The reaction sealed the deal! ‘Forever’ and ‘Make A Wish’ are straight up club cuts that featured on a single also in ‘22. The album closes out with the peacefully beautiful ‘Sleep’ that rounds things off to sonic perfection. 20 years is a long time to wait, and it would do ‘Another Moment in Time’ no justice to simply say it was worth the wait. This feels like the next evolution in Vince Watson. The finesse, the musicality, musicianship, and the production levels are of the highest level. ‘Peace of Mind’ and ‘Flashback’ may well be two of the biggest tracks that Watson has released to date.

Around six years ago, a bunch of djs, musicians and music lovers started gathering for weekly five-a-side football matches on a small, run-down pitch in Kreuzberg 61. Because much like music, football brings people together, wherever they are from. This collection has been a long time coming and collects tracks by players from seven different nationalities, all based in Berlin, united by both their love of the beautiful game as well as their passion for electronic club music. 11 tracks are on offer here (what did you expect?), each one dedicated to the composer’s football hero - a tribute to their unique skill and the beautiful moments they’ve brought us on the pitch. As such, the tracklist forms an all-star fantasy “Mannschaft". Compiled by player-coach Tristan Jong (aka Gratts) and made possible thanks to Markus Lindner (aka Delfonic), the package lives on the grass pitch between corner flags techno, deep house, disco and broken beats. It features music by established underground artists like Venezualan digger Trujillo, We Play House Recordings stalwart Harry Baldi or Juliano as well as debuts from the likes of Nemorna, James Martin and plenty more indeed. Five of the tracks are pressed loud onto vinyl as a club sampler - including full artwork comprising of some of the team pictures taken throughout the year - to the complete 11 track package. “Una Vida De Barrio”, then? It is on dark and sweaty dance floors that we get inspired, connect and leave our differences away to live in the present. With this compilation of music pressed in two parts and written by a set of artists from very diverse horizons, it is Polychrome’s perspective on the rave that we want to share. One where sound and light are the only points of reference, opening the space for liberating experiences.

The dance floor is also a space of self-reflection. The A-side is catered by two artists from one of our favorite collectives, De Lichting. With “A Reflection”, RDS opens up and shares a beautifully crafted house gem, providing for a soft and introspective yet groovy “eyes closed” dance. Nathan Kofi takes on the A2 with his unique deep house sound, layering sweet and cinematic synth sounds over an Afro-induced drum sequencing, creating a warm sonic envelope. On the B-side, James Free mixes acid synthesis, roaring bass line, and breaks to create a progressive and subtly melodic dance floor track, one that leaves you positively triggered. With the final track of the record, Rotterdam’s Mata Disk offers a glowing light over polyrhythms and very electronic noises, offering this body of work a deserved radiating curtain close.

Nu Groove spotlights the artists that made the legendary NYC label a firm favourite of crate diggers then and now with a series of their vital tracks re-edited by leading industry figures and choice selectors of today. ‘Nu Groove Edits, Vol. 1’ celebrates the champion of that quintessential New York house sound, Rheji Burrell. Together with his twin Rhano, the Burrell brothers were instrumental in defining the sound of Nu Groove, often releasing under a slew of monikers, four of which appear here. First up, the underground pioneer Bruise aka Christian Campbell takes on Burrell’s ‘Secret Code’ released under his Jazz Documents moniker. Anonymous Berlin duo Acid Jerks edit the deep house classic ‘Tech Trax Inc.’ by the eponymous pseudonym. What follows is house purist Phil Weeks’ rework of Houz’ Neegroz ‘All Night Long’ featuring vocals from Quiana. Santiago Salazar is one of the underground’s most accomplished players, having been involved with the Ican and Los Hermanos projects amongst many others. His track “Espacio Profundo” is a deep, beautiful house jam with an almost disco bassline, perhaps different from what you’ve heard from him but no less outstanding.
A2. Lerosa - “Ausgang”
Lerosa has been releasing bangers through a variety of labels throughout the world, with his album on Uzuri and EP for Apartment being the most recent examples. B1. Moonstarr - “Complications”
Moonstarr may have been relatively quiet recently, but his track record speaks for itself: releases on Sonar Kollectiv, Compost, and his own Public Transit contain many classics. For LWYF, Kevin contributes his craziest jam in a decade, “Complications”, one that is sure to be another party classic! A raved up cut with tight broken techno drum patterns, this will appeal to fans of funky dance music from bass to house and more.
B2. Jason Fine - “Bang”
Jason Fine got his start releasing music on Omar-S’ famed FXHE Records, and since then has been dropping heaters on Kontra-Musik that have been played by many top techno deejays. “Bang” explores the deeper end of his sound, with thick bass and delayed chords to create a hypnotic mood that will work wonders in late nite sets, making the heads go nuts.

The release of Crosstown Rebels’ Spirits compilation is always a bastion moment for the label. The first edition came to prominence in 2017 and we’ve been graced with an annual compilation ever since, showcasing a consistent habit to champion established artists and breakthrough ones alike. Now, Crosstown Rebels’ lauded Spirits series will see the light of day once more in June, with the release of Spirits V.

NYC-native Layla Benitez leads proceedings with Fides, a progressive-leaning, introspective number that retains an inherent danceability throughout. Building with tribal-like percussion and salsa-inspired instrumentals, it’s a playful excursion into dance music’s outer realms, paving the way for young Peruvian producer Chinonegro with My Moment. Whether it be the pluck of a guitar string or a jazzy trumpet solo, there’s an inherent authenticity to the six-minute piece, as a mid-track breakdown gives way to whispering hats and a rhythmic underlying backbone.

The penultimate offering comes from French-born, London-based regular Maglia, who serves up the enchanting Rayiys. The chirping of birds resides atop an ever-changing bassline, leaving us open and ready for the VA’s closing saga: Thanks Moon, by Spain’s I AM JAS. A heady combination of beautiful lyrical contributions combines with softly moving electronic elements, to leave us in a state of calm, inward reflection. Rounding off proceedings on a note of quietude, it reminds us of the final moments in clubland, transporting our psyche to sunrise, fond memories and everything in between.

Over a period of nineteen years, Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels has evolved into a world-renowned institution, garnering global audiences thanks to a consistent schedule of quality releases. Apron Records has been instrumental in shaping the current landscape of contemporary electronic music coming out of the U.K. since 2014. After almost a decade of pushing their unique vision has made the Apron Records imprint one of the most in-demand labels in most independent record stores. Now more than 45 releases deep in their journey, Apron Records have teamed up with Patta Soundsystem to work on their first various artists release and to celebrate this monumental milestone, both camps have collaborated to create a clothing capsule to accompany this release. After working with the artist formerly known as Funkineven on ‘The Wave’ late last year, it was only right to showcase the diverse talents behind this movement.

Sharing a drawing board with Patta for the first time with Apron Records, together they have created a Trucker Cap and a Graphic T-Shirt that echo the racing theme of the whole project. Better Together is the slogan that runs throughout the entire collaboration, stressing how unity makes us stronger as individuals. Artwork for the record has been provided by Amsterdam based artist Jim Klok. His unique Acetone printing technique has now been immortalised on this LP, juxtaposing vintage cars with checkered racing flags to create a dynamic cover that would be right at home in a picture frame as well as a record bin.

System Olympia’s ‘Passi Mai’ is a beautiful 80’s inspired driving riddim layered with her own vocals that wouldn’t be out of place in an arcade or a sticky nightclub floor. Followed up by ‘Leven’ by Brassfoot, we get a wobbler from the NTS regular. Layed with Jamaican vocal samples and audacious arpeggiated bleeps, Leven is a soulful approach to techno tropes that have been bouncing around Brassfoot’s head. Shamos’ 737363 is a cryptic masterpiece. With dreamy pads as a backdrop for shuffling drum beats, euphoric sweeps and dynamically designed synthesis, this closes off the themes explored in the first half of the record.

Side B kicks off with J M S Khosah’s contribution to the record titled ‘Lessons’ which is a dancefloor filler, adorned with glamorous percussion, vocal samples and syncopated stabs ontop of a driving 4x4 kick pattern. Kicking things into 6th gear is a club-ready production from London's most soulful selector Shy One. Groovy basslines and a 2-step riddim make ‘Candy Floss’ an ode to the grimey and the glittery sides of London nightlife. This project champions one of the people that have been pivotal in the success of the label, Steven Julien whose track E46 is an emotional journey through his synth-laden East London studio. Bookending the project are two compositions from Compton’s-own AshTreJinkins. Showcasing his abilities to approach the project from both an ambient and a pure beat-making perspective in order to hold the whole project together.

It's a huge link-up. We proudly present our fifth compilation, celebrating seven years of service. Over the course of the 18 tracks, divided across 3 discs, a whopping 25 individual artists show us what they can do, repping the distinct sound they bring to the label.

On the first disc, techno giant Alan Fitzpatrick teams up with Drumcode affiliate Reset Robot on a big-room techno slammer before Israeli duo Red Axes take us into the big room of our mind with a transcendental techno cut. Laurence Guy guides us in a different direction completely, joining Lis Sarroca, Marc Brauner and Tender Games in creating a groove that you can sit back into, losing yourself amongst Lis' syrup-smooth house, Miller Blue's soul-stroking vocals and MB & TG's piano tickles.

Before you get too comfortable, the Time Is Now lot come through with a suitable dose of ruffage, from Main Phase and Soul Mass Transit System's giddy UKG and speed garage, to the '90s-inspired atmospheric garage house of Borai and Coldpast & Tufftrax.

Closing proceedings are SNF's melody specialists. Ams, Kassian and Kaysoul each offer their take on blissed-out deep house whilst Module One & Soela and Alex Virgo & Benjamin Groove infuse stripped-back garage and breaks instrumentals with contemplative atmosphere.

“Django” and “Japanese Funk Machine” are 2 mid80s outstanding avant-garde dance tracks released by UnknownmiX, a Swiss avant-experimental group with unique vocal, punkish/art-pop/minimal wave atmosphere, solid synth and percussions in an anarchic world.

At the center of the project were the very talented vocalist Magda Vogel and the well-known experimental composer Ernst Thoma, who with this radical project sought to push boundaries and explore extremes with sounds that moved between tribal and distorted far ahead of their time.
The remixes were made by cosmic wizard Daniele Baldelli, assisted by the faithful Marco Dionigi, and Delphi (half of Tiger & Woods).
