To celebrate "Full Cycle"'s 10th anniversary I've decided to share some of the many beats I did at the time I was working on it.

It was such an important moment to me as I was living in Berlin half a year for my art studies. I've never produced that much, probably made 5 beats a day for 6 months.

"Full Cycle" is also the album that helped me to reach Japanese audience thanks to Shing02 who featured on 2 tracks. I contacted FK, as I was a huge fan of his track 'Shades of Nostalgia". He eventually connected me to Takumi Koizumi (ex-Nujabes' manager) who releases my music since then.

Today I've carefully selected some of my favorite joints from that period. Some of them were really close to be part of the LP, some others I've totally forgot but re-discovered when I realized how fast time flies.

I hope you'll enjoy this batch of instrumentals. Get ready for (really) new music in the next months !

Geology is the next album by New Orleans based producer and multiinstrumentalist Ryan T aka friendkerrek, and his second album for underground hip hop label Grilchy Party. Geology was created from the ground up without genre in mind, instead focusing on the very bedrock of the friendkerrek sound. After some reflection, the toolkit took shape: knocking drums, heavy bass, warm synthesizers, and plenty of atmosphere were chosen as the primary building blocks. The resulting songs were largely a departure from the normally sample heavy production of kerrek’s older records with faster tempos and more hand crafted melodies. Whereas previous friendkerrek records fit comfortably into the “instrumental hip hop” genre, Geology spans this as well as many other labels: electro, funk, and house music were all big influences as well. The album’s title comes from the scientific practice of the same name. The earth tells its stories if we know where to look for them, just as there is much emotion and meaning to be found in an instrumental album if we pay attention. Grilchy Party has always appreciated varied, diverse, productions and instrumental albums. This one right here takes things up a notch as it introduces the label as a multifaceted outlet for talented artists who are not afraid to experiment and expand.

Twit One is from Cologne and a true universal artist: producer, DJ, curator and record store-owner are some of the many hats Twit is wearing. Turt is one half of South London duo Summers Sons (the other half is his brother Slim) and best friend with C.Tappin with whom he and Slim form the Lightworks crew. Twit, Turt and Tappin share a friendship and musical partnership based on similar musical tastes and live values since they met in Bristol in 2015. Sp-1200 beats made using postal service. Fredfades and Sraw collaborate through post, exchanging dusty beats for an experimental Hip Hop record. The process of sending floppy discs back and forth, where each producer added element over element on their own Sp-1200, has been on-going for almost 10 years, slowly building a collaborative body of work. The result is Double Density, an LP that oozes with the character of that infamous instrument which laid much of the foundation for the earliest Hip Hop artists and still manages to evoke those raw and visceral sounds of that era. Reinforcing those sounds are the voices of Planet Asia, Pink Siifu and Blue November, who deliver lyrics from US coasts to Scandanavia’s fjords. The duo's collaborative effort swims in a sea of eclectic influences where Jazz, Soul and Hip-Hop thrive in the construct of this unique instrument. Vooo's words about "Same Old", My intention with this record was to refine a collection of the tracks most highly anticipated and requested by fans of my video content where I show the process of recording new songs. I selected each track not only on the basis of its connection with my audience, but also with the goal of curating a record full of emotive instrumental performances, positive moods and pure ear-candy. Many of these tracks were initially written as short-form “beat-video” content, and to transform the demos into full songs, I spent countless hours re-arranging, re-recording, and carefully mixing in a larger studio using high-quality vintage instruments and analog processing methods, particularly 8-track tape. The result is what I consider to be my most elaborate and well-crafted project which has been enhanced by the brilliant talents of the several featured instrumentalists and engineers involved.

Vooo is a multi-instrumentalist & producer originally from Los Angeles, currently based in Oakland. With a degree in music theory and a background in jazz, he has used his experience to dip into a number of genres, mostly in the world of hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul. Philipp Matalla lives and works in the triangle of Halle, Leipzig and Berlin, in Germany. He has previously released music on labels such as Optimo Music, Kann and Kashual Plastik. His new album on Meakusma delves into some of the themes that have so far defined his work, this time increasing the tension between moments of musical harshness and flickers of introspection, ease and downright beauty. Matalla aims not for perfection, instead deploying the listener's sense of imagination. Stakes is a gorgeous and gorgeously far out album, integrating elements of psychedelic rock and dub, blending in melodic ideas that are at times abstracted, at times soothing. It is pastoral music for the digital age, where raw bursts of noise and energy dislocate and set the record straight. There is even a croonerish feel to some of its tracks, croonerish from a distorted future that is. Stakes is an experience in eclecticism and musical logic. It dissolves structures and ideas and turns musically recognisable elements on their head.

Ugly Mac Beer, a key figure in the French breakbeat scene, founder of Beatsqueeze Records and author of the critically acclaimed albums Modonut 1 & 2 alongside Mister Modo, is back with a new solo album "The Valley of the Kings", between lofi hip-hop, abstract hip-hop or even broken beat, which will be released on January 27, 2023.

A digger/beatmaker effort par excellence, very inspired by the 90s productions of masters of the genre such as Madlib, DJ Shadow or RZA, the concept of this instrumental album with oriental sounds is based on the search for the sample of "THE" ultimate and perfectly heady loop, which can be listen to over and over again.

The eponymous title track which opens the album sets the tone with its powerful lofi hip-hop drum on a big cinematic and orchestral sound which evokes an Egyptian peplum of the 60s taking place in the heart of the mythical valley of the kings! Another highlight of the album, the track "Les chœurs perdus" resonates like a children's tale, with its bewitching voices and magical songs set to a catchy beat that evokes the Egyptian goddesses and the mystery of the pyramids. To compose the powerful and rather dark beat of "The New Flame", another essential piece of the album, the beatmaker drew his inspiration from New York hip-hop from the 90s but also from "crime film" soundtracks from the 70s. The sublime interludes “Fortune & Gloire”, “Years of Despare” and “Ambitious Dream” take us from one track to another, each one more powerful than the other.

Flight is a collection of music from American beat maker Artifakts featuring a continuous mix of widespread emotion tied together with a warm, genuine aesthetic. From the opening synth arpeggio, Flight will have the listener engaged in a sonic journey that blends golden era hip-hop drums, space-traversed synthesis and trance inducing sample selections.

THE Sounds OF Flight feature various samples of the soul genre, while a larger portion revolve around a particular series of music created and licensed in the mid 70’s to late 80’s. With collections such as April Orchestra, KPM Music and Bruton Music Library, many of the selected samples (better known as "Library Music") were originally recorded to evoke a particular mood for accompanying other media (movies, television, etc). While much of the Library Music genre remain uncirculated, abandoned in an era with a consumer of a smaller caliber, Artifakts breathes new life into each with every passing beat. Focusing on minimal methodology, Flight utilizes a prime selection of samples and classic MPC style drum programing, all woven with vintage sounding synthesis.

ill Records are proud to present the latest project from Hart, as she kicks off 2022 with Moon Jazz. The Sheffield-based producer continues her run of releases, following on from the Little Black Book EP, which emerged in 2020.

While Moon Jazz follows in similar footsteps to its predecessor, this latest offering, as the title suggests, is a more jazz focused affair. The album explores the point where the contemporary and the classic coalesce, as vaguely obscure vocal samples, wandering basslines and woozy horns, blend with electronic elements and hip hop-tinted drum patterns.

Hart’s aim for the album was to examine the relationships between people, art, feelings, moods and music, which she achieved through experimentation within the jazz realm and the formation of a storyboard of samples.

As much as the album is grounded in the worlds of jazz and hip hop, there is still a rich variation of sound that cuts across the entire listening experience. From the short burst of undiluted jazz strains on the intro and the looming bass / pitched down vocal amalgamation on Struttin’, to the multi-layered beauty of Vocabulary and the obscenely laid-back vibe of Cruisin, this is an album that showcases the full breadth of Hart’s dexterity behind the boards.

Bristol don Nicky Soft Touch makes his eagerly awaited return with the follow up to his last TIN release, Lonely City Sampler. Set for release almost exactly one year on, Lonely City Cuts sees Soft Touch continue in his deft explorations of sampling, chopping and rearranging beats using cuts from helter skelter and sidewinder tapes. Much like his previous release, as well as the self-released projects he's shared in the meantime, the LP is centred around a DIY aesthetic, making intimacy and introspection two of its defining features.

Conceived during a stint living in London, the series is imbued with a sense of place. Delivered via raw production techniques, voice recordings and off-kilter, broken garage beats, this positions the release amongst the moody, urban landscapes which provide the backdrop for Burial and Actress' music. On Volume One, this sounds like narling basslines that ricochet around swung percussion, and plaintive ambience that immerses you in its shadowy worlds. "As my girlfriend’s pregnancy was steadily treading along, I settled into my home studio in the attic of our new house. In our previous apartment I had a tiny room which could hardly fit my recording gear, let alone my drums which were still sitting at my parents’ house eating dust. Now that we’d moved into a bigger place, I had confiscated a part of the top floor to build my studio. This time I had just enough space to fit my drum set together with other percussion instruments, Fender Rhodes and synths. This sparked a whole new world of creative opportunities.

At the same time I also started to think about what kind of wisdom I would want to pass on to my children. I started writing down my thoughts. Little anecdotes, ponderings and things to think about as a human being.

These two events took place in parallel and once I actually started jotting down my first compositional ideas I saw the concept right there in front of me bright as day."

Fruit Distro Collective is a project by long time friends Boris van der Hoff & Tristan Coco. Raised on sampling & Hiphop beats, schooled through Jazz composition and inspired by Afrobeat & Afro latin styles. Pour some analog tape sauce over it et voilá!

Samus & Chill marks Tune in with Chewie’s first release with video game record label GameChops. Exploring a wide array of tracks from the Metroid series, Chewie remixes tunes ranging all the way from the series’ debut on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, through Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and the Metroid Prime trilogy.

Chewie, real name Nestor Estrada, is a guitarist and music producer native to Los Angeles, California. Producing and composing music for over a decade, he’s also the lead sound designer at Output, a software instrument company. Chewie produced Samus & Chill with Logic Pro using custom-built synthesizers, orchestral sound libraries, and vast textures created from his eurorack and guitar. While Chewie’s been a guitarist most of his life, his piano chops also shine through across the album.

Samus & Chill features 12 tracks from the Metroid game series, including tracks from Metroid, Super Metroid, Fusion, Prime, Prime 3, Other M, and Samus Returns. Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, TromBobby’s collaborator on Pause vol 1 – Jermaine Holmes began embarking on his musical career at the age of four as a member of his grandfather’s choir of Mount Calvary Baptist church. Jermaine performs as lead singer for Pete Rock and The Soul Brothers, and appears alongside artists like Nicole Bus, Keyon Harrold and many others on albums and stages around the world. Previously he had become an active member of the group The Vanguard since 2012 with popular R&B/Soul artist D’Angelo.

4 years ago Bojidar Vasilev embarked on a journey that’s both solo and packed with friendships. Indebted to Dilla, Knxwledge, and a whole galaxy of influential beat makers, the the fresh-out-of-Amsterdam-studies musician released his debut album Run.

With more than 100k streams on all major DSPs, the world saw TromBobby solidifying his place in the production scene and another example for the rise of the producers as lead artists. While he was already a household name in the Bulgarian r&b / soul and instrumental scene, it was Run that put TromBobby on the path of self-discovery and growth as a musician.

TromBobby’s new approach is a juxtaposition to the Forest Gump inspiration behind Run (2018) and while running did save Forest before, this new record channels his last 4 years of experience and learnings into a more laid-back and grounded destination.

On his new EP, Pause VOL.1, Bojidar, now 27, expands his attitude to beat music with neo-soul, jazz and r&b elements, going beyond sampling and with focus on live instrumentation and vocals as a production element. All that designed to create complex multi-layered music with vast emotional horizons. The take-everything-from-life-and-don’t-stop-for-a-second energy is now transformed. Still there, but somehow matured due to the realization that you really need to focus on certain things in order to achieve your goals.

It is that focus that translated into TromBobby’s ever-growing desire to play more and more instruments. Something that’s not only evident in the album’s artwork and credits, but when experiencing his music live.

On the new record TromBobby manifests the 4 years of exploration and love for collaboration with friends and same-energy people. That leads him to crossing paths with Jermaine Holmes who is an active member of the group The Vanguard since 2012 with artist D’Angelo. Their 2 collaborative tracks “longing” and “tony’s Lament” don’t only cross borders, but genres and sensations.

A big leap forward to TromBobby is utilizing his singing abilities on “box OF Chocolates” and “sunday”. Being fearless is that Run energy that translates into Pause VOL.1 and what’s going to carry on in VOL.2.

In autumn 2019 the label Beat Art Department released Soia's third album "Where Magnolia Grows" with great success. With "Where Magnolia Grows Remixes" the album gets a new coat of paint. A handful of greats from the European hip-hop scene were won over for the remixes. L One (atp Crew, Beat Art Department) and C.O.W.? Moo Latte provides the first remix of Soia’s “Where Magnolia Grows” album, and took “Fractal Spirits” for a new ride! The two Hip Hop/Neo Soul/Jazz artists first met on Soundcloud and have been sending vibes through the ether between Copenhagen and Vienna since then. The “Fractal Spirits” Remix is a first taste for their upcoming EP called “Spiritual Housekeeping".

The second “Where Magnolia Grows” Remix EP teaser re-work comes from C.O.W. ?. Running with the cows. Soia’s sound is so exceptional that the German-Chinese producer collective didn't have to think twice when asked to remix her success single Running With Wolves. The instrumental album "Gumbo", released in 2008, marked the beginning of Brenk Sinatra's international career as a producer. Voted one of the top 20 best instrumental albums of all time by the German JUICE magazine, "Gumbo" made the leap out of Austria with its rough and at the same time very soulful, sample-based instrumentals and put Brenk’s producer skills in the spotlight for the first time.

The follow-up "Gumbo II" was released in 2011 via the Cologne-based label MPM, which helped ignite the growing hype around instrumental hip-hop with Brenk Sinatra and other exceptional producers on board. Brenk's uncompromising second part of the Gumbo series catapulted him into the ranks of the most sought-after beat producers in Europe. Since then, the third and final part of the Gumbo series was also in the planning stage, but the ever-increasing number of musical projects and not least the pressure to top the first two album parts prevented Brenk from completing his instrumental trilogy. The folder with the instrumentals selected for it grew to well over 100 beats, was partially deleted and constantly changed in its composition, until Brenk stopped the targeted collection of Gumbo material in 2017 for the time being. At that time, Brenk made a stylistic shift that led him away from classic, sample-based beats to those laid-back trap hybrids that are now known as his trademark sound. Also, the mindset to complete "Gumbo III" would not settle and other projects were brought forward until the album took a complete back seat. Over the years, fans and journalists were repeatedly put off by Brenk when asked about a release date and "Gumbo III" became an eagerly awaited phantom project.

Fast forward to the year 2021: for the first time in four years Brenk clicks through the folder with the interludes, musical sketches and already finished beats once produced for "Gumbo III". With a new label and publishing situation in the background (in 2021 Brenk founded the music label Wave Planet Records as well as the associated publishing company Wave Planet Publishing) he makes the decision that the time is now ripe for the completion of the Gumbo trilogy and Wave Planet Records must become the new home of this project. This is followed by weeks of painstaking restoration of the instrumentals produced between 2012 and 2016. Brenk's focus was to keep the musical spirit of the instrumentals unchanged and not to modernize the sound. From today's perspective, "Gumbo III" bursting with countless vinyl samples sounds like Brenk's earlier beats, anachronistic and refreshingly different precisely because of that. The only update allowed for the "Gumbo III" instrumentals was a new mix by Brenk and mastering by his top-notch producer colleague Dexter.

The perfect visual complement to the Gumbo sound universe is provided by the playful cover artwork, bursting with details, by Cone The Weird, who already provided the striking artwork for the "Gumbo II" album.

The completion of the trilogy will be celebrated among other things with a very special "Gumbo Trilogy Box", which will be released in November 2022 and will make the heart of every passionate collector beat faster.

The Berlin-Spandau original merges the legacies of both Pete Rock and Dr. Dre, while funky breakbeats meet laid back SoCal “Chronic” vibes. 12 instrumental tracks and 2 skits strong, his album tells the story of a young man, who lives up to his wildest teenage dreams. Most of the track ideas came up while being on tour with Fjaak. Between international transit areas, making inspirational new friends and bizarre encounters all over the world, beat making became DJ Piper’s safe space to process all the positive madness around him. As a result, “A Dream In A Dream” breathes that raw, untamable creative energy around Felix’ extraordinary day-to-day life, while being heavily influenced by the sound of his childhood, 90s and 2000s rap.

To visualize “A Dream In A Dream” DJ Piper and Kommerz Records joined forces with Raman Djafari, a childhood friend of the artist, who illustrated music videos for Dua Lipa and Elton John (no joke!) and worked for New Release Information Adult Swim. Raman’s supernaturalistic aesthetics bring life to DJ Piper’s somewhat psychedelic, somewhat nostalgic fantasy, locating the album in an otherworldly version of Spandau, hometown to both of the artists. As one half of Fjaak Felix became an icon of Berlin techno conquering major festival stages and mainstream audiences while heavily representing underground D.I.Y. mentality up to this very day. Reggie B returns with his much awaited NBN release "Tinky's Jam.” This is his first full length album since “Soulofunkaquarian” released with INnatesounds. The album was most definitely worth the wait. It takes the listener through a personal and musical journey inspired by the birth of his son, who he affectionately calls “Tinky,” and the connection they share. Tinky was a major part of this album, oftentimes found in the studio during the conceptions of many of the songs. This album is unlike any other record released by the Kansas born producer, multi instrumentalist, singer and arranger. After the birth of his son, he was inspired and encouraged to get back into the musical game by the head of NBN, Onra. "Tinky's Jam" is something of a family affair with friends and old collaborators playing their part.

Born into a musical family to parents who were two sides of the same coin, a father who was one of the most renowned drummers in Topeka, Kansas funk and jazz fusion scenes and a mother who was one of the most prominent gospel singers in the city. The apple didn't fall far from the tree and Reggie has spent his life performing and playing with a healthy slew of releases.

This album is the result of countless days in the studio which yielded scores of a dozen slabs of head nodding funk.

Mostly instrumental and showcasing Reggie's many styles from the heavy bounce of "Futuristic Slow", to the George Clinton nod on "P For Life", and the crafted soul of "Gone Fishing" with Dominique Sanders to the cool street jazz feel of "Realize" with Donald Hates's sax adding flare as well as the beat of "Nose Dive" providing the nod factor for the heads.

Without a pandemic, you’d now be listening to an album wholly recorded in Cuba with local musicians. Back in 2020, everything was organised, so that in May 2021 we could get started. Yet, the sanitary measures proved to be a fierce adversary, so rather than giving up entirely we decamped to Dakar in October the same year – a compromise that ended up being a positive event in itself.
Cuba has a long African history. Under mass enslavement and the Transatlantic trade, Africans were forced from their homelands, against their will, taking their music along with them. Merging throughout the centuries, taking on European influences, led to the birth of a distinctive Afro-Cuban musical tradition. Highly percussive, brass-based, simmering, full of danceable rhythms. The spirit etched into thousands of recordings, forever turning towards Africa. The departure point here is not to keep things the same. Rather, a return to the source enacts a loop – much the same as those providing the foundations for hip-hop beats.
The flame when it’s re-lit illuminates everything. Thanks to the Senegalese musicians in Dakar, the Cubans who crossed the Atlantic to join us and my usual family of musicians, this music – a cross-section of covers and original compositions - exists as a homage to Afro-Cuban music. Made in Africa, in Senegal. Three worlds, three languages, three colours. Recorded over 17 days, non-stop, germinating the seed born in Cuba at the end of 2020 so that the most beautiful fruits might be cultivated in Dakar, 2022.
When the world doesn’t seem big enough, we look up to the sky where even the blackness is lit up, where those I loved who are now gone shine as stars, shining as brightly as all the others. Each time I think I’m not going to make it; I recall the star of my mother. Then the path becomes clear.
Pandemic, visa problems, cultural clashes, bank transfers that didn’t go through, a fractured foot – this project sometimes felt like a series of accumulated challenges. The only thing linking us, a shared love for the music, each of us invoking our personal star and all that we have overcome.
In this way, the music is born as a call to our stars.

After the release of their critically acclaimed first album « Bluestaeb & S. Fidelity Present Underground Canopy » (menace - 2020), Underground Canopy (uc) was able to take time, due to the unforeseen period of doubt in 2020, to craft new compositions with a fresh approach. Throughout this forced period of introspection, the Parisian band experimented with more refined musical codes and colorful sounds.

Following the new additions of Raphaël Henry on drums and Christopher Johnson on electric guitar, UC was able to record and film a live rendition of four original pieces at the end of 2020, thanks to an invitation by the Centre des Arts d’Enghien-les-Bains’s artistic program and Sense. These music videos, each filmed in one shot by Romain Lalire, capture UC’s musical digressions away from their mainly hip-hop and groove-infused jams and into new territory.

The resulting new EP «Séquences : Live Session» celebrates cinematic aesthetics and the suspension of time. It stands as an audiovisual testimonial to the band’s continued progression. In this era marked by uncertainty but full of hope, what will come next?

LTF’s excursion into the unknown continues. Following the retrofuturistic Soviet jazz-funk sample madness on ‘Monolith,’ the productions on this album yet again spiral deep into dug-up sounds. To quote an article by Flea Market Funk about LTF’s music: “Sampling former Ussr wax and giving heads all around the world the chance to actually experience his version of that music—sample by sample—is what music is all about: sharing, learning, and preserving.”

For ‘Cinematic Wax,’ the producer from Omsk, Russia used rare records from countries including Russia, Georgia, Tarastan, Poland, Greece, and Hungary as his source material. “To this day, the 70s were the pinnacle years of musicians’ skill and imagination,” says LTF. “The only thing I can do is dig deeper and deeper into the crates and bring these masterpieces back to life.”

Since LTF’s first official record (2015’s ‘Light The Fuse’ on Black Milk Music), listeners kept telling him that his productions evoke a ‘cinematic feel.’ “I never really understood what they meant with that,” he admits. “I was just making jazzy, funky, boom-bap sh*t! Time went by, and people kept telling me how ‘cinematic’ my beats are. So this record is kind of an answer to the idea that was planted in my mind.”

Song titles like “Tbilisi City Walk” and “Tea Ceremony with Bamboo Monster” indicate the vivid approach to naming his funk breaks and boom-bap-minded productions. “I always try to put the feelings my production process evokes into the name of the tracks. To me, that’s quite hard to put into words. But in the end, finding the right way to describe those moods is extremely satisfying.”

There’s also a meaning to one of the vocal samples in the album’s intro track: a Secret Intelligence Agent from a Bond movie says how he “lights the fuse in any explosive situation.” A hint to the meaning of his artist name LTF (Light The Fuse), and a reference to his way of working with samples: explosive sounds of horn stabs, brass, bass, and breaks. Carefully digging for hidden material like a spy himself, distilling only the most treasured parts.

After a six year hiatus Twardowski returns with his fourth album on U Know Me Records. The newest outing is a retrofuturistic trip to the author's two biggest influences: instrumental hip-hop and… video games. The new album eschews Twardowski's previous synth-heavy style in favor of multiple layers of chopped and mended together samples, topped off by cuts from U Know Me's own jazz guitarist/turntablist Żyńy. The album invokes video games with the track titles, the LP's title being a homage to coin-ops and via the overall sound: wonky, heavily shuffled, almost-out-of-sync rhythms sounding almost as if the tracks were done sampler in one hand gamepad in the other, over a lengthy, laid back gaming/sequencing session. Maybe if a gamepad was a sampler and instrumental hip-hop was a game, "One Coin Clear" could have been its soundtrack.

Glenn Astro and Hulk Hodn (to some known as mighty Hodini) release their new full-length record Ghosts” via Kommerz Records on August 26th. Producers Astro & Hodn‘s first joint album “Turquoise Tortoise” in 2018 combined uptempo beats, hiphop and spaced out lo-fi slow jams effortlessly. On “Ghosts” the duo develops their exploration of new
aesthetics even further through synthesized soundscapes and numerous collaborations with young talent from all over the world. Artists such as Danish neo soul discovery AGGi, King Krule collaborator Gal Go, Kamohelo from Studio Barnhus band Off The Meds, Berlin-based voice experimentalist Yosa Peit and many more deep dived into the collaboration and transformed the album into a sonic multiverse.
New Release Information Glenn Astro and Hulk Hodn are connected through a long lasting musical friendship. With their Detroitinspired house releases they gained wider recognition by critics and listeners alike. Nevertheless, they’ve never been one dimensional artists. Trad Vibe records is happy and proud to present you this project as well execptional as unpublished! We are in 1994, DJ Clyde left the group Assassin and launched the 1st French Mixtapes but he sees even further and launches into the production for the 1st time since he became a hip-hop activist. His set up seems very simple but unusual and innovative for the time especially in France with a Sp1200 and two S950 and a maximum of Soul, Funk, Jazz vinyls that he digs with his crew Hypnotyc Djs (Dj Clyde, Dj Max, Dj Asko). The project is also exceptional because it comes from a cassette archived by Clyde of beats sent for the album Paris Sous Les Bombes of the famous group Suprême NTM (3rd album of the group). Of course you will not find the beats released with his last but all the unselected gems that reveals the talent and the advance that Dj Clyde had taken in the production at that time! More than an instrumental album or beat tape, this project is a testimony of the history of Hip-Hop and moreover of Beatmaking in France in the 90s which was not supposed to see the day. The cover is made by the talented grafiti artist Cyril "Kongo" of the famous and historical crew of graffiti artists MAC (founded in 1986 in Montreuil).

Follow Plants is the third record by Limalo, the psychedelic beat music duo based in Austin, Texas composed of long-time friends Jesse Darling and Jordan Smith. After meeting at an alternative school in Fort Worth, Texas with an emphasis on nature, Limalo came into being with their first record Human Bloom in 2013, a melty reel-to-reel saturated ambient beat album which blended warped samples with warbly rhodes and droning synthesizers. Limalo plays on the surreal with samples from things like Alejandro Jodorowky’s “The Holy Mountain” and “Fantastic Planet”. While the record employs the signature sound of Limalo’s past output with its dreamy synth lines, dirty textures and wonky beats, it marks an energetic shift in heaviness from track to track. While still sprinkled with ambient, oneiric vignettes, Follow Plants strikes harder with thundering percussive layers, booming 808’s and crackling rimshots. Still, the album stays true to Limalo’s ambient core, capped at both ends by the intro title track Follow Plants, based around an idyllic 70’s flute & guitar cover of Erik Satie, and the final closing track Tap the Caapi, a sacred send-off of overlapping arpeggiations, performed flute and clarinet on top of a traditional Shipibo Icaro.

Anzola is a Toronto based Venezuelan-born recording artist and multi-instrumentalist, whose loop-based neo-psychedelic music incorporates elements of Instrumental Hip Hop, Electronic, Jazz, and Latin genres. Utilizing samplers, classic synths, drum machines, and live instrumentation, Anzola’s sound is groove-heavy and often depicts a laid-back landscape. Anzola is set to release his upcoming self-produced six-track EP entitled Bodega, on April 8, 2022. The record was developed throughout the course of 2020 and into early 2021 and was recorded at Anzola’s home studio in Toronto. Throughout the pandemic, Anzola continued working on music while re-building his home studio in a new physical space. This provided an opportunity to experiment with different layouts of his gear, which impacted the ways in which he interacted with the equipment. Bodega was born out of a manipulation of immediate loopable tracks for Anzola’s keys and synths, and fluid rhythmic changes that progressed as the songs themselves were created. Anzola’s previous 2020 release, Caracas, was a six-track EP that embodied his experience of growing up in the city of Caracas. The record celebrated his youth and explored the parts of himself that were left behind when he immigrated to Canada. Caracas was entirely self-produced and was created instrumentally utilizing drum machines, bass, synths, electric pianos, and samplers.

" I’ve started to work on this album before I knew it. During June 2018 I was in Japan for a month to release my previous album « Cairn » as well as my first solo exhibition of drawings in Tokyo.

Everyday on my way to the gallery I passed in front of the same building, its name kept haunting me.

Back then I was digging for cheap 80’s Japanese CD’s in second hand stores. Most of them set the tone of this album and the direction I wanted to follow. I feel there’s a direct connection between these original sources and the sound I pursue by their meditative aspect.

Most of the demo songs were done before my daughter’s birth on August 2019 and were finalized since then. Many of the titles refer to this main event and relate to how it changed my position in life : being a link through time by becoming a father. "
