At long last we’re happy to bring you the release of Tulu & Wimpy Fly Like A Cucumber. This full-length record was recorded in 2014 at Electric Cave Studio in Portsmouth, NH by Scott Gildersleeve (aka Tulu) Jack Hayes (aka Wimpy), and Marc McElroy. Gildersleeve and Hayes, along with Joe King, were the original members of the infamous punk rock band The Queers who formed in the early 1980’s. Gildersleeve and Hayes also played together in the Boston-based band The Monsignors in the late 1980’s. Tulu and Wimpy Fly Like a Cucumber contains new songs written by Scott Gildersleeve, and recorded in 2014 by Gildersleeve, Hayes and McElroy, as well as some unreleased and remixed songs by the Monsignors. Tragically, in early 2015, within a few weeks of the completion of these recordings, Scott Gildersleeve aka Tulu... left us... hopefully to a better place than this world. “But finally, I am able to release this truly outstanding record, that I had the pleasure of being able to create with my best friend. Owing to a focused period of growth as a home recordist and producer, there is a distinct, refreshing current that charges outtakes from “bad summer”, the latest full-length album from Philly-via-Portland’s cool original (fka cool american). What under other circumstances might have been a string of homespun indie rock songs is instead an energized pop-focused collection of tracks born from what Nathan Tucker describes as “the contrast between total formlessness and rigid claustrophobia”. As heard almost immediately on album opener “monad, no windows”, an electric atmosphere envelops outtakes from “bad summer”. Pitch-shifted vocal samples and previously-scrapped drum recordings fill out the overture, setting the table for a patchwork of repurposed, resampled ideas shaped into songs that rarely end up in the same place they started. The unhurried and sentimental “i just need a second” boasts the full spectrum of cool original’s songwriting prowess: foregrounded, infectious melody over subtly chopped and screwed drums comprise the foundation for Tucker’s own take on a classic road song—a marked contrast to “breaking my own rules”, an experimental pop number unlike any previous cool original work. Similar contrasts abound throughout outtakes, making for a listening experience that’s equal parts rejuvenating and unpredictable.

What originally started (Ghost Bitch!) as a solo noise project and an outpouring of grief has slowly transformed into a poetic yet primal force of rock-n-roll while maintaining the touch of an exorcism, of late, a danceable one nonetheless.Ghost Bitch's new album Blood and Honey was recorded in six hours by Capt. Tripps Ballsington at High Command in October 2021. It was written in "Olympia" during the pandemic while long awaiting a move to Naarm ("Melbourne, Australia"). Blood and Honey is brutally romantic and funny the way a Baudelaire poem is funny, reveling in turning things upside down, most of all- beauty, yet this time spoken from the mouth of the razor-sharp, decaying Venus herself.

Born and raised in small Texas towns, the members of Good Looks met and began playing together in Austin. Songwriter Tyler Jordan grew up in a South Texas coastal town dominated by the petrochemical industry, his childhood steeped in the tension between nature and industry, exploitation abundantly present and the wealth gap on full display. His father's church, described by Tyler as "cult-like in its intensity," was homebase and where he learned to sing. Tyler eventually met lead guitarist Jake Ames in the late-night song-swap circles of the Kerrville Folk Festival campground (where they would also meet Buck Meek and Adrienne Lenker pre-Big Thief). They shared their mutual love of the Texas hill country canon (Blaze Foley, Townes Van Zandt, and Willie Nelson), a love of cheap diner food, thrift store baseball caps, and a healthy dose of harmless shit-talking. They began playing in bands together, backing up other songwriters and taking turns in the spotlight. They sought out producer Dan Duszynski (Loma, RF Shannon, Jess Williamson) to engineer their debut album. What would form was Good Looks, a blue-collar political indie-rock band with healthy doses of Replacements swagger and shimmering, desert rock riffs not unlike The War On Drugs.

Jenny "Trajinero b/w Kids of Today" is the sophomore EP by Justin Maurer (clorox Girls, Maniac, Suspect Parts, L.A. Drugz) featuring a little help from his friends Jacobo Fernandez (las Bruscas, LES Tragiques, Desobedientes) and Gabriel Lopez (espectroplasma, Sonido Gallo Negro) as well as his former bandmates in LA Drugz who play on the B-Side "Kids of Today". "Trajinero" is Jenny's debut Spanish language single with the B-side "Kids of Today" sung in English. "Trajinero" was conceived during Maurer's visit to Mexico City in November 2020. Maurer, Fernandez, and his girlfriend Corey were enjoying a Sunday afternoon boat ride in the swamps of Xochimilco, Mexico City, and Maurer was fascinated by the rough and tumble trajineros who expertly manned their hand-painted gondolas in the canals. Over a bottle of ice-cold Don Julio Blanco, Maurer and Fernandez envisioned a plot where a lovelorn working-class trajinero must commit crimes to keep his upper-middle class fresa girlfriend happy. Loosely based on the plot of Emilio "El Indio" Fernández 1943 film Maria Candelaria, our protagonist commits a crime of passion and ends up in jail. He makes a plea to himself for his own happiness and survival, a passionate cry of "Ni Carcel/Ni Ella/Ni Nerds" which translates to "Not jail, not her, not nerds." (The Mexican Spanish equivalent of nerds, ñoños, is sung on the final word of the song.) Maurer has been a student of the Spanish language for a couple of decades with stints living and working in both Spain and Mexico. Native Spanish speaker and homegrown chilango, Fernandez, helped him with the lyrics – scrawled quickly during an acoustic rehearsal on the rooftop of his Mexico City apartment a few days before entering T-Vox Studios to record. Covid-19 was in full swing in Mexico City in November 2020 when "Trajinero" was laid down and Maurer, Fernandez, and engineer Gabriel Lopez all double masked in the studio which is attached to the Lopez family home in Aragon; near the airport where Maurer had his flight home a few hours later. He nearly missed his flight, but a stone-cold hit was recorded. Lopez's uncle Miguel Angel was dancing around the studio throughout the session which the boys took to be a good sign. Along with engineering and mixing the single, Lopez also played lead guitar and Vox Organ. "Kids Of Today" is a catchy banger recorded by Grammy award-winning engineer Mark Rains at Stationhouse Studios Los Angeles. The uptempo B-side features former LA Drugz bandmates Cezar Mora (the BAD Machine, THE Wayward Chapel), James Carman (reflectors, Maniac, Images), and Johnny "jd" Reyes (reflectors) handily backing Maurer up.

In the early days of Covid, Chris (Dirt Cult Records, Low Culture, Macho Boys) would mask up every night and take a long walk to keep his sanity. When he returned home, he went down to the basement and stayed up until four in the morning writing and recording the songs on this cassette. Consider this a time capsule of the early days of the pandemic, showcasing the mundane weirdness of those early days of the pandemic, filled with grocery deliveries and clips of right-wingers claiming victimhood because they can’t get their haircut or order dine-in – all to a snotty punk soundtrack for fans of Circle Jerks, Crucifucks, Dead Kennedys, et al.

In the summer of 2021, the ArOzA Crew released the tune "Asphalt" as single. Shortly thereafter, the then still unknown band was perceived as a promising newcomer in the HipHop scene. Interviews were given with BET, Urban Vault UK, Puls, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the record label Expanded Art Records also got in touch to license the song for a 12inch vinyl. Instead of just one single song for a 12inch, the band offered EAR an entire EP with more songs from the time Asphalt was created and fitting remixes. For remixes, Flip from Texta and Maniac from the Demograffics were won over. Flip, a rap star in his country Austria, remixed the song "For Da Nation" which features London rapper Rece Miller. Maniac from the Demograffics, known for his work with Liquid, Dexter and the Tribez, did the remix work for the title song „Aspahlt“. Also on the EP the joint "Roswell Incident", a bomb by 90Wyse from Buffalo in the United States on which the ArOzA crew gave a feature. The 12-track EP is rounded off with the instrumentals of the songs and remixes.

What's Realness? Realness is a lifestyle, an attitude towards life. It is the essence of what HipHop's all about. Unfortunately this realness has been nearly completly lost in the last few years and is only rarely found in recent productions. One whack song followed by another is released to generate plays and to enter the charts. The Realness, the values, the art and the soul of this African American culture is being sold for some small change. Marlonhil is now stepping into the ring to revive HipHop with realness.

George W. Bush. Cormac McCarthy novels. Chainsaw massacres. Texas has a reputation for being a grim place. Sure, there's the rock n' roll haven of Austin, the metropolitan hubs of Dallas and Houston, and the weird art commune of Marfa. But by and large, it's a land of dry counties and conservatism. Which makes the demented psych garage of Lubbock's the Numerators all the more compelling. Northeastern Texas is perhaps the most inhospitable region of the state for a young band of misfits to combine a love of David Lynch's twisted take on the 50s with a requisite dash of Lone Star homage to 13th Floor Elevators, yet somehow the Numerators have managed to thrive under such stark conditions. Now based in Brooklyn, the trio continues to belt out their hallucinatory brand of reverb-drenched garage rock on their latest single for Suicide Squeeze. The "Dead" b/w "Finally Sees" 7" is limited to 500 copies.

The newest longplayer from Tio'tiá:ke/Montreal staple Cedric Noel lands with a stunning sense of surety and self. Hang Time stands as a high water mark for a songwriter who's spent the past decade quietly expanding the borders of his music. Longtime fans will recognize the fluid elements of the album's open-ended rock formations: reflective strumming, soaring choruses, searing guitar lines, subtle bass grooves; all occasionally dissolving into pools of pure ambience. New listeners will find surprises throughout: threads of folk pop, ambient and sound collage fasten the foundations of this expressive whole. However, what's most striking on Hang Time is Noel's newfound sense of voice, both literal and metaphorical. Written primarily in 2017-18 during an intense period of self-reflection, this collection of songs finds Noel wrestling profoundly with his sense of identity, self and place. Born in Niger, adopted by Canadian and Mozambican/Belgian parents, he spent his youth moving around the globe with his adoptive, multi-racial family, eventually landing in Fredericton, Canada for university. While studying, Noel embedded himself in a predominantly white indie rock community that left him feeling, as a Black man, both seen and unseen in complicated ways; both welcome and not. This tension would follow Noel through a move to Montreal in 2016 wherein he found himself again moving within predominantly white music communities. This (dis)placement would encourage Noel to find respite in Ottawa, holed up temporarily in a family home, studying the pieces of himself and putting them to place in music. Listening to Hang Time, one can feel the tensions of this process being held and released, as if being allowed to breathe for the first time: forms open and close, surfaces are seen through, feelings go supernova. The album's material was captured faithfully at The Pines, a beloved downtown Montreal studio whose doors shuttered shortly after amidst the strain of the pandemic. Noel worked closely and patiently with friend and engineer Steve Newton, ensuring the songs had the time and space needed to come fully to fruition. Hang Time features subtle rhythm work from drummer Liam O'Neill (suuns) and guest spots from Brigitte Naggar (Common Holly), Ella Williams (Squirrel Flower) and Tim Crabtree (Paper Beat Scissors) among others.

The nightmare continues. Last summer, Pozi's 176 EP came out just as the coronavirus pandemic was offering us its first false dawn. Fast forward twelve months and another devastating wave later, we're still a disorientated, shell-shocked mess; moving once again towards normality, but with the energy-sapping tension of continued restrictions. A grimly perfect time then for the south London three-piece to return with new EP 'Typing' on Prah Recordings. The five tracks here reflect another stage in Pozi's evolution. Since coming out of the gate they've been a bristling, frenetic presence, toeing the line between dissonance and pop sensibility. As the 176 EP was a refinement of what they did on PZ1, Typing sees the trio becoming yet more comfortable in their relationship as a band and increasingly confident in how far they can push their sound. Typing isn't a lockdown record, but it has been informed by it. More importantly, though, it's yet another significant step forward from a band who've so far felt like something of an underground secret, despite being championed by BBC Radio 6 Music and in various places by contemporaries such as Sleaford Mods, Squid and Sports Team. Once restrictions do finally lift, that may no longer be the case.

Billy & The Loins reunite for a tribute 7" to founding Singing Loins member Chris Broderick!Billy recorded the first two Singing Loins LPs with Chris Broderick and Arf' Alan in his bathroom at May Road, Rochester in 1991 and 1993. The lads then decided to record an LP of folk variations of Billy's own tunes, called At The Bridge. The Singing Loins then went their own way recording many LPs. Fast forward to late 2021 and the singer Chris was diagnosed with blood cancer. Before his passing in January 2022, he let Arf (and later Loin Rob), know that he wished them to carry on the group. That said Billy proposed a memorial 45 (and an LP to follow). "Song of the Medway" is about their hometowns of Rochester, Chatham, Strood and Gillingham, all on the banks of the River Medway. Chatham's ancient Dockyard was where Nelson's Victory was built. "The Broken and the Lost of the Old Long Bar" celebrates a drinking hole on Chatham High Street (which once boasted more pubs and brothels in a single mile than anywhere in the world). Especially written by Billy for this return of The Singing Loins, the songs are at once brand new and ancient.
