East Village are one of the great lost bands. Along with other legendary bands like Big Star and The Action, who also failed to fully stamp their mark whilst active, East Village made pop music that was timeless, but out-of-step with the musical environment around them.

From their mid-80s roots as Episode Four to their late-80s heyday with a string of now highly sought-after singles and EPs on labels like Sub Aqua, Heavenly and Summershine, East Village forged a brilliant, classic sound that resonated with contemporaries like the Flying Nun and Creation label bands, but also hearkened back to 60s influences like The Byrds, Dylan and Velvet Underground.

Just as their star was rising they dissolved on-stage in the spring of 1991, but their legend has only grown. A posthumous album, "Drop Out," is now hailed as a classic of its genre, and a compilation, "Hotrod Hotel," was released to great acclaim by Summershine in 1994, finally now seeing its first, long overdue, vinyl release.

“Figure 8” is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Elliott Smith, and the final album he completed before his death.

Steven Paul "Elliott" Smith (1969 –2003) was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. Smith was born in Omaha, Nebraska, raised primarily in Texas, and lived for much of his life in Portland, Oregon, where he first gained popularity. Smith's primary instrument was the guitar, though he was also proficient with piano, clarinet, bass guitar, drums, and harmonica. Smith had a distinctive vocal style, characterized by his "whispery, spiderweb-thin delivery", and used multi-tracking to create vocal layers, textures, and harmonies.

Smith began his solo career in 1994, with releases on the independent record labels Cavity Search and Kill Rock Stars (KRS). In 1997, he signed a contract with DreamWorks Records, for which he recorded two albums. Smith rose to mainstream prominence when his song "Miss Misery"—included in the soundtrack for the film Good Will Hunting (1997)—was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Original Song category in 1998.

Smith had trouble with alcohol and other drugs throughout his life, while suffering from depression, and these topics often appear in his lyrics. In 2003, aged 34, he died in Los Angeles, California, from two stab wounds to the chest. The autopsy evidence was inconclusive as to whether the wounds were self-inflicted. At the time of his death, Smith was working on his sixth studio album, “From a Basement on the Hill”, which was posthumously completed and released in 2004.

The debut record by Fly Pan Am consists of five long songs clocking in at over an hour of music, spread across three sides of vinyl for the LP format. Chiming, deliberate instrumental rock propelled by insistent motorik drumming and interweaving guitar and bass lines that unfold with obstinate rigour. The band's ear for melody and approach to (de)construction reveal the twin influences of French pop and krautrock, resulting in a forward-looking experimentalism guided by an unshakeable faith in the unfulfilled possibilities of minimalism and musique concrete in punk-rock. Additional tape manipulations and field recordings by all the group members add drones, transitional accents, and abrupt interruptions to the collage. The music is sometimes willfully infuriating in its pursuit of a concept; "Dans Ses Cheveux Soixante Circuits" proceeds through a lovely series of harmonic changes before settling into a 10-minute repetition of a half-tone interval while the digitalia of guest electronic musician Alexandre St-Onge takes over. The band premiered this piece at Constellation's Musique Fragile concert series in 1998, and "L'espace au sol." is a re-recorded version of a piece that first appeared on a split seven-inch with Godspeed You! Black Emperor, put out by local fanzine aMAZEzine, also in 1998.

With six officially released albums, two more in the can, four probably-never-to-see-the-light-of-day records in his closet, a few live albums on the shelf-culled from literally five years of straight touring-and a Myspace song-a-day project, the quietly prolific Jason Anderson returns to K with The Hopeful and the Unafraid. While he also played guitar in Mount Eerie, has drummed with Tilly and the Wall, and played piano with David Dondero, you've probably heard little about him. The Hopeful was made at Soma Studios in Chicago, on a two-day tour break in January of 2006. Recorded in a matter of hours-tracking the vocals, guitars, and drums simultaneously-Jason's goal was to make an organic documentation of songs he'd been playing every night for half a decade. PSYKIK VOLTS were an original New Wave band formed in 1978, inspired/influenced by bands like THE CLASH, SEX PISTOLS etc. They were all aged around 18 at the time of releasing their self-financed single and it was their first time in the studio, hence some of the rough & ready bits (feedback, bum notes etc.). They considered themselves more 'New Wave' than 'Punk' at the time as the initial wave of punk bands had died down by then. A very DIY band, they designed the picture sleeve, had it printed and stuck them all together their selves! John Peel played the single quite a lot on Radio 1, and it was subsequently repressed on the MHG label after the initial 1000 copies had sold. They released another 500 copies (in plain white sleeves). The band got signed shortly afterwards to Graduate Records (UB40 etc.), who recorded 3 songs but never released them. They split at the end of 1979. Vik & drummer Mick Reed then got signed to Rockburgh Records in 1980/81 & released a single called "Wooden Heart", calling themselves POPTONES (after the Public Image song). "Totally Useless/Horror Stories No. 5" was featured in Record Collector magazine in 2006 in their 'top 100 rare punk singles' list & valued at £50.This single will be followed by a CD compilation of all the bands tracks as well as full sleevenotes and rare photos etc.
