"Our Other History is a wonderful new LP by this wandering Berlin-based Melbourne expat. Ned's last album, Afternoon Dusk was an avant instrumental trio outing with James Rushford and Joe Talia, but Our Other History is a return to the delicate, sophisticated song craft of his 2018 masterpiece, Old Chestnut. Ned's approach to lyrics, vocals and music shares a melancholic beauty that is both haunted and haunting. His words are often more impressionistic than overt in their storytelling, but his vocals carry hints that recall those of the legendary Roy Harper. But where Harper's attack was often Dionysian, Collette's approach is Apollonian, and the tracks often have a compositional feel with a distinct taste of Canterbury. The players this time include old hands, like drummer Steve Heather and pianist Chris Abrahams (of The Necks), but there are a bunch of new players on hand, including Melbourne mates Jim White and Mick Turner (of Dirty Three fame) and the folksinger Leah Senior. All these elements (and more) are fitted together with elegance and allowed space to breathe. Collette's music is hard to classify. It exists inside a dynamic flux made up of equal parts post-rock, folk, jazz and avant prog, but it manages to remain plain-spoken and uncluttered regardless of how complex its structure can be when you start parsing it. Since 2018, Vancouver BC’s jangle-pop meets riot-twee trio WUT have been making a local name for themselves with their joyfully heartfelt live performances. In 2020, the trio released NOW, an energetic cassette accompanied by 10 DIY music videos. These earnest and often humorous videos reflect WUT’s playful yet sincere songwriting. Recently, WUT recorded Mingling With The Thorns, their sophomore full-length album. Mingling With The Thorns was created during two years of intermittent quarantines which caused guitarist Kaity McWhinney (Knife Pleats / Love Cuts), bassist Tracey Vath (Knife Pleats / Love Cuts), and drummer Lauren Smith (Tough Age / Jock Tears), to write songs independently, and share their ideas through countless emails, dropbox folders, and google drives. Long periods of isolation were consumed by experimentation with different arrangements, and often an idea would be re-worked over and over (and over) again. This resulted in a collection of carefully crafted pop songs that reflect the bands mutual love for c86 jangle pop and early Flying Nun Records bands. McWhinney’s longtime friend and musical collaborator, Christina Riley (Artsick, / Burnt Palms) joins WUT on the track “Your Feelings”, which pushes the band into the realms of garage rock with her raw and frenetic lead guitar. On a surface level, Mingling With The Thorns may seem fun and carefree. However, a dig deeper into the album’s lyrical content draws up themes that grapple with patriarchy and late stage capitalism; specifically the struggle to find personal autonomy within these social systems.

Woodstock 99 follows up 2022’s Super Gremlin with another deep dive into Cleveland’s hallucinogen-soaked hardcore underbelly. While Woodstock 99 typically delights in obliterating your expectations, you could get through almost the whole A side of 99 Ta Life thinking they’ve made a conventional (for them, at least) hardcore punk record. And their hardcore chops have only sharpened since Super Gremlin, with brilliant, memorable riffs, powerful and confident playing, and uniquely demented vocals. However, even at their most straightforward, you never know where Woodstock 99’s songs will go, darting between parts in ways that surprise you on the first listen, but sound perfectly natural once you’ve acclimated to the group’s cracked logic. While that logic colors the hardcore tracks on the A side, on the B side, Woodstock 99 charges headlong into the void. “99 Problems” is a psychedelic ramble that wanders through a succession of modes before a sudden explosion brings the track to an abrupt end. Closer “Za Rat King” is the masterpiece, though, an eight-minute journey composed and performed with the assistance of artificial intelligence where a hooky four-bar phrase haunts a glitched-out universe encompassing a dizzying parade of genres and musical traditions. Like a lot of Woodstock 99’s music, it really interrogates the boundary between genius and idiocy. So strap in, grab Woodstock 99’s hand, and follow as they lead us even further down the rabbit hole.

Chunklet Industries is proud to announce a breakthrough in broadcasting technology. For the first time, the BBC working hand-in-hand with intergalactic audio pioneers Man…or Astro-Man? present to you seven volumes of their famed U.K. radio sessions recorded between 1994 and 1997.

"Even at the time, it felt implausible that Man...or Astro-Man? would do over a dozen sessions at the mighty British Broadcasting Company. Initially it was the legendary John Peel who had the band on his Radio 1 show—six times between 1993 and 2000—after Birdstuff sent him a postcard ordering him never to play the band. Peel allegedly had a shrine to our Auburn heroes at his country estate, and while we believe that to be true, we’ve yet to see photographic evidence. The list of bands that recorded a session for Peel (neé Ravenscroft) is mind boggling and estimable. Most American bands would be lucky to record a single Peel session. For Astro-Man? to have played as much as they did at his request is an indisputable testament to the band’s fevered devotion to performing. But also, let’s be honest: John Peel had pretty great taste. As reference, The Fall performed on Peel’s show more than 25 times between 1977, a year after the band was formed, and the death of leader Mark E. Smith in 2018. The fact that a decidedly obtuse and dorky band from Auburn, Alabama, would perform on Peel’s show more times than The Jesus Lizard, Fugazi, and Nirvana combined is proof positive that Astro-Man truly put in the work... especially on the British airwaves. What the BBC documented in its studios peppered across the country was a band that evolved in plain view from a spazzy surf band into a shit-hot post-punk powerhouse.

More than a decade ago, with my daughter, still in diapers, resting on my lap, I had a sit-down with Coco. He gave my outrageous idea of doing an extended Astro BBC retrospective a cautiously enthusiastic thumbs-up. Flash ahead to 2024: my daughter is now a teenager, and that preposterous idea is finally materialized. Thank the heavens. Thank the stars. The first (and hopefully not the last) Astro box set is now a full-blown reality. The wretched birth of mysterious chilean death-doom enigma Miasma OF Occvlt Limbs is an experience to behold, and an abomination entirely unto its own. The band's death-devoured debut full-length album titled Occvlta Caerimonia Putridvm was silently digitally released on Bandcamp by sole mastermind Myiasis in early 2023 going virtually ignored, as sadly happens all too often to South American extreme metal, notoriously to the contrary a perpetual source of marvel and wonder when it comes to the most unique and obscure crafts of dark and deviant extreme music. With no exception to this tradition Occvlta Caerimonia Putridvm immediately self-identified itself as an unmistakable gem of Chilean extreme metal, unfolding a foul masterclass of utterly horrific and putrescent drone-infused death-doom. A crypt-born abomination of immense subsonic death metal dripping with filth and riddled with decay. Death-obsessed and reeking in putrefaction, Occvlta Caerimonia Putridvm sees Miasma of Occvlt Limbs slow down the meters of Incantation's putrid death metal even further, reaching the abysmal dimensions of Disembowelment where space is consequently created by the arbitrary stretching of tempos and the songs turn into a widescreen panoramic canvas primed for experimentation. It is in this state of slow-crawling, agonizing filth that Miasma of Occvlt Limbs reaches the zenith of its death-scared triumph, as visions of rotting sepulchers and decaying remains are conjured with horrendous mastery. And as the listener is subjected to this foul descent into the catacombs, the agony slows further, seemingly never-ending, as light fades from above and the scent of death becomes as thick as magma. In this twilight zone of benthic decaying horror, Miasma of Occvlt Limbs touches the depths and surrealism of Sunn O))) as marked drone and funeral doom segments hold the listener even longer frozen in terror as the nightmare unfolds seemingly without end, making Occvlta Caerimonia Putridvm without a doubt one of the most underrated, enigmatic and evocative pieces of necrotic death-doom conceived (and then criminally overlooked) in 2023.

Warning! was the only studio recorded document from the amazing hardcore band, The Latin Dogs, from Battle Creek, Michigan. This EP was released in 1982 and has never had a legitimate reissue until now. This remastered record is a perfect time capsule of punk becoming hardcore and original copies sell for several hundred dollars. This self-produced effort easily compares to the early hardcore punk released on Dischord Records or Touch and Go Records. From the ashes of some very seminal undiscovered punk bands such as the Brain Police, The Lips are Back, and The Itch, came The Latin Dogs. The band’s sole record was a DIY project paid for by the earnings of live performances. In those days it took many shows to get enough cash to pay for a pressing of a 7" record. It was recorded on a 4 track reel to reel and the sleeves were printed by a shady print shop that went out of business during the pressing, and the band had to break into the building to pick up the half-finished printed sleeves. This record put their early Political stance at attention. The power of a Marshall stack and Gibson SG backed by a Fender P bass with Ampegs at full volume, driven by a thin, wiry straight ahead drummer, fueled by a Jack Daniels drenched rebellious singer, gave this band a unique hardcore sound that was still reminiscent of an earlier punk sound. This powerful band, with two 6-foot guitarists, sandwiched a cocky, political, savvy singer who was not afraid of bold and precise statements. The Latin Dogs were deflected and rejected from popular punk circles, yet remained influential enough to carve out their own fan base in Grand Rapids, Detroit, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and east Lansing. They played on shows with bands like: Big Boys, Die Kreuzen, Negative Approach, Tar Babies, Channel 3, Violent Apathy, Destroy All Monsters, and others. The Latin Dogs were ahead of their time, but also a bit ignored by their peers. Six song EP with double-sided insert, limited to 550 copies.

We’ve been working on this one for a while and it does not disappoint! We initially planned on doing a one sided cassette for a single long track. The band brought us 2 crushing and engaging works of force and finesse that are a never tiring 16+ and 20+ minutes each. We were so moved we decided there was no course, but to also offer it up on vinyl. In addition to producing their usual brand of pissed-off Metal/Hardcore, the members of Dissolve have always dabbled in playing strange improvisational music. A few years back, the band started recording their rehearsals in an attempt to bring something tangible back from these sonic excursions into the far-out, deep space that they would travel to together. Burnt is the recorded artifact of these explorations and features two of Dissolve’s heaviest, and longest, songs ever. 'Shot Rocks' and 'Sunshine' crush the listener with the brutal, down-tuned riffs and raving, street prophet vocals that people would expect from Dissolve, but then they also take a lot of unexpected twists and turns into blotter acid territory. The songs go deep into shadow realms of ambient whispers and electronic whirs that lead to gonzo guitar solos and bursts of noise. There’s a lot of wild sounds going on during these songs. Put on the good headphones, turn on, tune in, and drop out." Edition of 167 copies.

Sharif Dumani is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Sharif started in punk bands during the late '90s. There have been myriad projects since then and he’s currently fronting the guitar-pop group Exploding Flowers, playing guitar for first-wave L.A. punk artist Alice BAG and now embarking on a solo career. This batch of songs is the debut of his first solo outing. 21 songs of noisy guitar pop embedded with floating melodies and assaulting hooks. The album was self-recorded to tape on a Tascam 388 1⁄4" reel-to-reel machine. A number of guests contribute to the album, including Kevin Rutmanis (cows, Melvins, Tomahawk, Hepa-titus), Zander Schloss (circle Jerks, JOE Strummer, Weirdos), Imaad Wasif (yeah Yeah Yeah'S, Folk Implosion, Lowercase), Nick Murray (white Fence, Thee OH Sees), Stephen Mcbean (black Mountain, Pink MountainTOPS), Sophia Knapp (lights), and Cory Lomberg. Mastered at Chicago Mastering Service by Matthew Barnhart (Bob Mould, Superchunk, Metz, Pissed Jeans). Album artwork by artist/musician Jill Emery (Hole, Mazzy Star, Super Heroines). Sharif has collaborated with a wide range of projects both recording and performing with groups and artists such as SEX Stains, Jowe Head (swell Maps/television Personalities), Nikki Sudden, THE Moon Upstairs, Cody Chesnutt, Nick Garrie, and Classics OF Love (ex-OPERATION Ivy). This is his debut release, In Search Of Memory.

After "Olivier Rocabois Goes Too Far" 2021 and the EP "The Pleasure Is Goldmine" (2022), the new release by Olivier Rocabois is called "The Afternoon of our Lives". The songmaker from Brittany has written and composed 11 new numbers for this second solo LP. The A side was recorded at the legendary Studios de La Frette (Arctic Monkeys, Marianne Faithfull, Nick Cave) with his band whereas he cut solo tracks for the B side in various studios around Paris and in a church somewhere in Normandy. A string quartet can be heard on a couple of tracks including "Prologue / Trippin' on Memory Lane", the long baroque pop piece that shines at the center of the album. Heavily influenced by the late Beatles and Hunky Dory / Aladdin Sane-Bowie but also The Beach Boys or The Divine Comedy, the record also contains more adventurous tracks and even two potential hits which could keep your dancefloor packed all night long! Olivier has been touring extensively last year (playing venues in Paris like Le Café de la Danse and Les Trois Baudets) and a summer/autumn tour is in the pipeline. In the late 80s, King's X had just launched their now-iconic Sam Taylor-produced debut album Out of the Silent Planet (1988), ushering in what would soon become known as the "Houston sound." This sound was a unique blend of progressive metal, groove, rock, and rich harmonies. Around the same time, another band began making waves: The Awful Truth. They had recorded their debut album for mainstream Metal Blade Records but sadly broke up before it even came out. By the time the album was released in 1989, two-thirds of The Awful Truth had formed a new band with two other members, the now-legendary Galactic Cowboys, further defining that groovy-metallic Houston Sound. Although signed to the infamous Metal Blade Records (known for releasing albums by Slayer, Fates Warning, Voivod, etc.), The Awful Truth's eponymous album featured poetic lyrics expressing a sincere faith. A key example is "Ghost of Heaven": High above the highest star Songs of You the angels sing Only You could fill my heart Only You could bring me where You are Ghost of Heaven, hear my plea Holy voice, won't you speak to me? Most of the material was written by David von Ohlerking and is adventurous, though more in a traditional progressive context, not foreshadowing the unpredictable style of the Galactic Cowboys. The one track with shared writing credits is Drowning Man, where you can definitely hear the chugging riffs and rhythms that would characterize Monty Colvin and Alan Doss' next project. The distinctive guitar sound, overdriven/mid-rangey bass tones, and oblique Christian imagery in the lyrics are reminiscent of the first four King's X records, but The Awful Truth ventures into heavier and more progressive territory. The epic Should Have Known All Along might even be mistaken for a lost King's X song, especially with the way Ohlerking's vocals break at the end, sounding very Dug Pinnick-like. The end result is a stone-cold classic in every way. The 2024 Brutal Planet Records reissue has been completely remastered by Rob Colwell (Nevermore, Flotsam & Jetsam, King's X, Poundhound, Voivod, etc.) and it sounds better than ever! Collector's are treated to Orange Crush Heavy-weight Vinyl and a 12x12 full color lyrics insert featuring band photos. This limited edition of just 300 Vinyl units is a must-have. 40 Years ago Hunting Lodge was nearing the peak of its fertile “Tribal” period. In celebration of this anniversary we are releasing Nomad Souls, Tribal Warning Shot (expanded) and The Harvest (live/expanded). All of the included tracks have been lovingly remastered from the original reels and cassettes, restored and mastered for digital by Grant Richardson. Nomad Souls LP was released in the fall of 1984 on S/M Operations in the U.S., and in the following spring on Side Effekts Records, U.K.. Tribal Warning Shot 12” 4-track EP was released early 1985 on S/M Operations (U.S.). The title track was remixed with drums added for a 12” 45 release on Normal Records (Germany) soon thereafter. This version appears here (the original mix is included as a digital bonus track). A new remix of the 1983 7” “Night From Night” b/w “Untitled” is included, along with 2 tracks that appeared on compilation albums and one unreleased track. The Harvest cassette was a collection of live Hunting Lodge tracks circa 1984. Those tracks are #15, #18 through #27, and digital bonus track #1. The Detroit show bears the distinction of being the only time Roselle Williams (“The Wolf Hour”) sang live with the band. Included here are two previously unreleased tracks, one from Chicago and the other from Detroit. This set features a replica of the original S/M Operations Nomad Souls cover, and of the Normal Records 12” art, which was designed by T.M. Caldwell & executed by Trish Damon. The third sleeve features a newly designed back cover by Rolaid Alpo Cola, and an inner panel including the original Harry O. Morris promo poster artwork along with an essay from Graeme Revell. Puppy38 assisted in design and pulled together all of the design elements. Includes a limited edition 34-page booklet. This tome includes a replica of the original S/M Operations booklet (originally included in Nomad Souls / Tribal Warning Shot mail-orders) and has been expanded to feature detailed information pertaining to this LP set. All of the new artwork, as well as that of the original, are the creations of the legendary T. M. Caldwell.

Progressive rock riffs interwoven with beautiful melodies remind the listener of the functionality of music, which has served us for centuries. Listening to the tracks from the album, you'll feel like you're at a great party where the music electrifies your entire body, and you don't know exactly when you start to dance yourself.

The abundance of available music today poses many questions for artists: how to compose, how to play, how to sell? In this album, there are no calculations, only sincere confessions in which the band's leader shares his ideas and emotions in most of the compositions, and the whole band enjoys it. It's mature playing, free from artificial expectations.
