Parlophone Records is proud to announce THE KIT KAT KLUB (LIVE NEW YORK 99), the sixth and final installment of DAVID BOWIE 'BRILLIANT LIVE ADVENTURES', a series of 1990s era Bowie live albums released as limited one run only vinyl and CD pressings. The albums and limited edition boxes to house the full vinyl or CD collections will be available only via the David Bowie official store and Warner Music Group’s Dig! store.

Out 2nd April on CD and double vinyl, THE KIT KAT KLUB (LIVE NEW YORK 99) is a 12-track live album, recorded on 19th November 1999 in front of an invite-only audience of fans and contest winners.

The show was recorded and filmed for webcast the following month via Liveonline.net. The audio from the show was previously available exclusively as a very rare 12-track promotional CD.

The photos used on the inner gatefold of the CD and LP are by Alison Hale a fan who travelled the world to see multiple Bowie shows before she sadly passed away in 2012.

THE KIT KAT KLUB (LIVE NEW YORK 99) was recorded live at the Kit Kat Klub, 19th November 1999, produced by David Bowie, mixed by Mark Plati, and features Bowie backed by Page Hamilton - guitar, Gail Ann Dorsey - bass, vocals, Mark Plati – guitar, Sterling Campbell – drums, Mike Garson – piano, keyboards, synthesisers and Emm Gryner and Holly Palmer –backing vocals.

Debut solo album from songwriter and Grizzly Bear multi-instrumentalist / vocalist Daniel Rossen - even if you’re not familiar with the name you’ll likely know his voice. Trading lead vocals with bandmate Ed Droste, Rossen’s band Grizzly Bear became leaders for a late-aughts wave of Brooklyn transplants bringing their introspective bedroom pop to the masses. With a trembling delivery, Rossen and co. similarly dealt out heady, ornate songs that eventually featured in nationwide commercials and movie trailers.

That being said, Daniel Rossen hasn’t lived in Brooklyn for a number of years now. Since 2017’s Painted Ruins, Grizzly Bear have appeared to be in hibernation aside from Droste’s departure in 2020 to become a therapist. As life charged onward, Rossen decamped to Sante Fe and began reflecting a lot more on individuality. Namely, after years of being a part of a successful collective, he saw the need to define himself after the restless enthusiasm and public fanfare of his 20s and early 30s.” The result is You Belong There, Rossen’s debut solo album that sounds as reflective and searching as its title suggests.

Heralded by lead single ‘Shadow In The Frame’, the thorny twists and turns that defined Rossen’s work with Grizzly Bear return on his first solo outing, but with a new sense of urgency at the wheel. Taking up cello and woodwinds along with relearning the upright bass, Rossen assembles a jittery, yet stunning orchestra as he contends with his mortality on ‘Shadow in the Frame.’ Existential uncertainty weighs heavily on the sparser moments as found in 'You Belong There'.

The talented Daniel Rossen allows his songwriting to take centre stage, crafting an ornate album following a period of reflective self-discovery.

First reissued by us in 2012 and out of print for many years, here’s a new, improved repress of this UK psych holy grail. Axe (known also as Axe Music and finally Crystalline by the time they recorded their rare acetate) were an obscure British psych band led by acid-rock guitar player extraordinaire Tony Barford and graced by Vivienne Jones ethereal vocals. The band hailed from Northampton (home also of their mates Dark of “Dark Round The Edges” fame). In 1970, they recorded a demo album of which only 12 copies were pressed as a demo acetate. Here's a straight reissue of this legendary artifact, as the previous "reissue" on the Kissing Spell label from 1993 and credited to Axe was altered without the band consent and included newly edited tracks, artificial echo / phasing effects, altered song titles...

Here' you'll find the acetate recording on its pure form: 100% unadulterated heavy psych and acid-rock sounds full of raw, fuzzed-out guitars and dreamy female vocals. Four impressive original songs plus a long, psyched to the max cover of Love's "A house is not a motel" which has to be heard to be believed. Carefully remastered from an original acetate copy in 24-bit. Unfortunately, no masters survived and no 100% clean copies are known to exist of the original acetates, but you’ll get the best result for the possibilities. In fact we’ve managed to improve the sound a bit over our first edition from 2012. * New artwork (the original acetate came in blank sleeve), insert with unseen pictures and liner notes by Paul Cross (Sweet Floral Albion). Rated with the maximum rarity (six stars) in Hans Pokora's 5001 Record Collector Dreams book.

During the late 1960s, Japanese band Blues Creation was formed from the ashes of an earlier group, the Bickles. Beginning as a covers act and then switching to original material, they had several line-up changes before calling it quits, only to be born again as Creation in 1973, touring the US with heavyweights Mountain. The self-titled Creation LP from 1975 saw guitarist Kazuo Takeda and drummer Masayuki Higuchi intact from the former incarnation. It captures this version of the band at their freshest with Takeda’s excellent guitar work firmly in the lead and often with heavy doses of fuzz – the best Creation album by a longshot.

Also Jürgen Dollase Gives Some Nice Keyboard Work, Particularly The Piano, Farfisa Electric Piano, Synths, And Even A Little Mellotron. Klaus Schulze Were More Responsible For The More Droning Organ And Synth End Of Things, It's Pretty Obvious When He Plays It. The Legendary Producer Dieter Dierks Plays Bass On These Nearly Never Ending Improvisation. The Recording Was Transferred From The Original Analog Tapes At The Dierks Studios In Germany. “All this I do for glory” is a reasoning and exploration of the machinations of ambition and legacy, an examination of the concepts of afterlife, and the first half of a doomed love story in the model of the greek tragedies. As a narra- tive, it exists temporally somewhere between 2015’s “Never were the way she was” (with Sarah Neufeld) and the 1st volume of the NHW Trilogy.

With this, his first solo outing since 2013’s “To See More Light”, Colin Stetson ventures into territory both familiar and strange. Here still, is the dogmatically stripped down approach to performance and capture (all songs recorded live with no overdubs or loops) but there is an immediacy to the album that belies a more invasive and thorough miking of the various instruments being utilized and a seeming influence drawn from the early nineties electronica of artists like Aphex Twin and Autechre, evident in the more pointed role played by the instruments’ many percus- sive elements.

There are ancestries, motivic and timbral, woven through these six songs that plainly anchor them within the shared universe of his Trilogy, though the overall experience is one of extreme intimacy, the sounds and imagery more tangible and immersive than previous offerings. The brief and brutal “In the clinches” recalls (or presages) echoes of songs like “Judges”, though now feeling like one has fallen down the bell of Stetson’s ancient bass sax- ophone itself. “Spindrift”, crystalline and serene, calls to mind the ambient works of Aphex Twin, while “Between Water and Wind” with it’s “Immigrant Song” swagger, relentlessly carves it’s way into the bedrock here, paving the way with an increasing focus on the minute and the minimal, with a deepened sense of patience shared by most of the album’s six tracks.

Engineered and mixed by Stetson himself, this album represents a decidedly independent approach across the entire creative process and finds him at the top of his game, both as a composer and instrumentalist as well as a producer.

Vivid peyote-induced psychedelia from Texas sounding like an impossible meld between the Elevators and the Velvet Underground but possessing a strongly unique disposition.

Recorded in 1970 but never released at the time, featuring future members of Roky Erickson’s backing band Bleib Alien / The Aliens.

Formed in Austin in the late 1960s by visionary lyricist and autoharp player Billy Bill Miller and his friend Tom McGarrigle on guitar, Cold Sun evolved from a band called Cauldron (later Amethyst) which at one point featured drummer John Kearney from Roky Erickson’s first band The Spades. Miller, a proto-Goth figure always dressed in black, highly influenced by Joe Meek and vintage sci-fi / horror movies, started to experiment with weird noises out of his electrified autoharp, favoring the audio-oriented drug mescaline over the LSD associated with hippies. Amethyst jammed with musicians such as Benny Thurman from the 13th Floor Elevators and Steve Webb from the Lost And Found (another International Artists band). The definitive Amethyst line-up, with Hugh Patton on drums and Mike Waugh on bass, played at venues like the I.L. Club, a historical landmark of Austin blues & psychedelic music.

It was through Mike Waugh’s friendship with Elevators drummer John Ike Walton that Billy Miller and the band (still unsure about their name but calling themselves The Daily Planet, changing it to Dark Shadows, and then to Cold Sun) hooked up with the local label / studio Sonobeat (Mariani, Wildfire, Johnny Winter…), who expressed interest in recording an album with the intention to shop it to a major label: thus, the now-legendary Cold Sun album was born. The band, driven by Miller’s strange electrified autoharp sounds plus the massive fuzz guitar of McGarrigle, dressed with feedback and futuristic lyrics, laid down several tracks in between rehearsals at Miller’s house on Castle Hill (west Austin). The album opens with “South Texas” (“the ultimate psychedelic track,” according to Patrick “The Lama” Lundborg), climbing to a psychedelic summit with the final 11 minutes of the fervently intoxicated “Ra-Ma”.

Never released at the time, the Cold Sun album languished in oblivion and the musicians moved on to other things. Billy Bill Miller along with drummer Hugh Patton founded Bleib Alien (later The Aliens), the famous backing band of Roky Erickson, with Billy being essential in bringing Roky back to music after his stay at Rusk Mental Hospital.

It wasn’t until 1990 that the Cold Sun album was finally released on vinyl by the Rockadelic label (in a tiny edition of 300 copies), followed by a new edition on German label World In Sound in 2008, now out of print.

For this new edition on Guerssen, we’ve tried to imagine how the Cold Sun album could have looked like if it had been actually released in 1970. It comes in a hard cardboard sleeve with vintage styled artwork by psychedelic illustrator Callum Rooney.

Sourced from the same audio master as the original Rockadelic LP, the sound has been vastly improved thanks to the meticulous and careful restoration / remastering by audiophile engineer Ezra Lesser, who has also penned the definitive story of Cold Sun for the liner notes.

Cold Beat, aka Hannah Lew, returns with the announcement of her third album, Chaos By Invitation, out April 7th via her own Crime on the Moon label. As compared with previous releases, Chaos By Invitation began in Lew's home, alone, with additional tracking done later by Phil Manley (Trans Am) at El Studio and Mikey Young (Total Control) - only to return to Lew's home for completion over the course of many months. As a result, the offering is much more personal and direct than Into The Air, which was more of a band effort. Collages from Lew's home environment make up many of the textures of Chaos By, woven in to create an intimate atmosphere, a sort of chaos by necessity and design. The album also features performances by her friends Kyle King, Alex Shen, Jackson Blumgart, and Mikey Young.

The album moves through themes of sensuality/intangibility. Lew attempts to reconcile the distance between these two modalities throughout the album. One can hear the surrender in Lew's voice as she grasps to hold onto the end of a rope during "In Motion" - as if succumbing to a strong current of emotion. Chaos By Invitation examines what can be machine-readable and what is only felt in the body.

Inspired musically by bands such as NEU! and Tubeway Army, Lew was also influenced by her own burgeoning interest in astronomy. The first single, "62 Moons," is a song about love taken for granted, analogous to the 62 moons of Saturn, which are in constant loving orbit around a beautiful siren planet with many satellites. The artwork (above), done by Kevin McCarthy - of legendary Bay Area post-punk band Rank Xerox - was made to be machine readable, with some far distant expectation some synthetic intelligence would be able to understand this extremely personal and human album.

Fittingly, at the summit of the decade's long, intoxicated arc, their divergent strains of interstitial ritual congealed into one of Coil's most celebrated and hallucinatory creations: Music To Play In The Dark.Convening at Balance and Christopherson's vast Victorian house / studio in the coastal town of Weston-super-Mare, they began a series of ambitious sessions aided by inner circle associates Thighpaulsandra and Drew McDowell. Although the creative process was admittedly "iterative" and "a bit of a drug blur," the results are astoundingly inventive and well realized, winding through shades of divination dirge, wormhole kosmische, noir lounge, ominous humor, and black mass downtempo, guided by Balance's cryptic lunar muse, which he announces on the opening track: "This is moon music / in the light of the moon."What's most remarkable about the album 20 years after its release is how brazen, insular, and unpredictable it still feels. The songs follow an allusive, altered state logic all their own, warping from microscopic ripples of glitch and breath to widescreen warlock psychedelia and back again, as much hyper-sensory as inter-dimensional. Essential listening for anyone with a pulse and a chip on their shoulder. Remastered and recut at 45 RPM for maximum blunt force. We found the artwork all beat up but we nursed it back to health. It’s never been louder, clearer or more fun than this, and it’s out on Castle Face Records on Record Store Day 2015.

Since first meeting as midwestern high-schoolers in 2009, Citizen have emerged as one of the most promising young bands in the alternative underground today. The band signed to Run For Cover Records in early 2012, releasing their EP Young States that year as well as a split with labelmates Turnover. In February of 2013, Citizen entered Studio 4 with producer Will Yip (Title Fight, Circa Survive, Daylight) to record Youth, their debut full-length. A "cheval de frise" is a military defensive structure. It is the alias under which Thomas Bonvalet and Vincent Beysselance formed their duo, creating anxious, agitated music with perpetually changing, almost baroque, patterns. Urgent, emotional and paradoxically structured and thought out in the finest detail, it drew much of its Influences from the many forms of 90s American post-hardcore, while being undeniably singular. The formation was instrumental and the bass was abandoned for an amplified classical guitar, giving them their signature sound. In a French musical landscape where rock and guitar music did not thrill much anymore, Cheval de Frise came as a surprise. After a few demos, the band released their first eponymous album in 2000 on Sonore, a label based in Bordeaux. It was well received, allowing Cheval de Frise to tour all over Europe. Their second album, Fresques sur les parois secrètes du crâne, was recorded in 2002. The band split in 2004 leaving their mini album La Lame du Mat to be released posthumously. Around the world, many instrumental, energetic, fast and complex bands would emerge in the following years, usually labeled as "math rock". But the unique color of Cheval de Frise remained, marked by a certain anachronistic romanticism. Remastered by Carl Saff. Cheval de Frise is reissued on New York label Computer Students and is available for the first time ever in cassette and double LP. The vinyl version is presented in a beautiful gatefold sleeve with an impressive poster. The whole thing is packaged in a sealed foil pouch, a trademark of the label.

Ultimate space-age exotica trip from Venezuela.
In the early 70s, well-known composer and arranger Chelique Sarabia (who penned the famous “Ansiedad” when he was just a kid) decided to register an album of traditional & folkloric songs from Venezuela but giving them a modern touch, using especially developed equipment (M.R.A.A.), based off of the principles of the Moog.
Chelique, helped by a team of gifted musicians, employed traditional instruments like the cuatro and the bandola llanera, filtering them through oscillators, playing with feedback, tape delay, synthesized frequencies, echoing sounds… The result was “Revolución Electrónica en Música Venezolana”, an album with a truly exotic, psychedelic, and ahead of its time sound.
Originally, the album was sponsored by the Shell Company in Venezuela, given away to customers, employees and friends of the company as a Christmas gift in 1973. It was titled “4 Fases del Cuatro - Música Venezolana desarrollada Electrónicamente por Chelique Sarabia” (“4 Phases of Four – Venezuelan Music Electronically Developed by Chelique Sarabia”). Once the exclusivity period with the petrol company was over, Chelique did a commercial release, this time under the name of “Revolución Electrónica en Música Venezolana” (“Electronic Revolution in Venezuelan Music”). Thanks to this, Chelique and his team were considered electronic music pioneers in Latin America.

Raï is the music of a youth hungover from Algeria's recent independence. It became a space for a liberated, transgressive dialogue that told the social truths of its time -- an up-front yet poetic voice that covers the taboos and frustrations of daily life, expressing emotion without detour. This voice is heard at weddings, cabarets, in the nightclubs of the Oranese coast, and casually on the street...
