LOS NATAS is a trio formed during 1994 in Buenos Aires/Argentina. Their musical influences are numerous and varied, having the base of the raw and psychedelic sound of 1970s bands such as The Doors, Black Sabbath, The Who, Pink Floyd and Hawkwind, among others. Los Natas propose a journey made of basic elements: valvular equipment and vintage instruments, they incorporate the use of the senses and perception of the listener as a part of a sonic trip. Formed in 1995 in Karlstad, Sweden by Rob Coffinshaker, these graveyard country pioneers have been steadily putting out records, most of which have now become highly sought-after collector items. The Coffinshakers successfully merged the imagery of German expressionist cinema with traditional country sounds of Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, occasionally flirting with Ennio Morricone -style melodies and the 60’s surf-garage sounds of The Ventures. Topped with full-bodied lyrics and Rob Coffinshaker’s haunting, low register voice, this combination gained them a cult following in the late 90’s and 2000’s, and they even creeped up to the Finnish top 40 with their self-titled album in 2007.

Svart Records are proud to announce the official Coffinshakers vinyl reissues, which have been in the works for a couple of years now. These reissues include the full length albums We Are The Undead (1998) and The Coffinshakers (2007), both of which come in repro-sleeves with original artwork. Omaha, Nebraska's punk rock romantics return with an award winning blend of pop-punk meets doo-wop on their brand new full length release Life Got In The Way. Friends since high school, middle aged pop-punkers The Young Hasselhoffs are reunited after a decade-long sabbatical, that followed a decade-long sabbatical, punctuated by a brief reunion. Confused? Let’s start over. Matt, Jason, and Phil started TYH in 1998, right out of high school. They very quickly earned a reputation for writing super-catchy, sugary sweet, pop punk meets doo-wop tunes and released their debut full length CD Win A Date With on the legendary Melted Records in 1998. TYH continued their historic pop punk legacy with a few more CD and 7inch releases on Insubordination and Far Out Records, made numerous comp appearances, and three US tours, reality intervened. The rock dream seemed dead. Matt, Jason and Phil decided to go their separate ways. And they did. Despite being considered largely irrelevant as an actual band 20 years ago, Phil managed to talk everyone into making a new record. Matt wrote demos from Colorado, Jason and Phil re-relearned their instruments in Omaha, and (with the help of the internet) they were ready to record with producer Andrew Berlin at the Blasting Room in August 2021.

Too Many Years is a Jorma Kaukonen studio album released in August 1998, his last on Relix Records. Michael Falzarano returned to play guitar and help produce (as he did on the previous Kaukonen solo album). He also sang lead on several tracks. The keyboard work was handled by former Jefferson Starship keyboardist Pete Sears, who had been playing with Hot Tuna since 1992. This deluxe package includes an OBI strip, Gatefold album jacket with two pockets, two printed inner sleeves (unique for this release), new record labels and two discs: one blue/black and one brown/black smoke vinyl.

The Maniacs were one of 1977’s original first flush Punk Rock bands in London signing to United Artist Records and releasing the single Chelsea ‘77 b/w Ain’t No Legend recorded at Pathway studios and produced by early Sex Pistols producer Dave Goodman. The Maniacs played all the renowned Punk Rock venues in London, contributing two tracks to the Live at the Vortex album and appearing live at the Mont de Marsan Punk Rock Festival with the Clash the Damned and the Police in’77. The band were to crash and burn in true Punk Rock style at the beginning of 1978. Band members Rod Latter went on to join the Adverts. Robert Crash went on to working in songwriting & production with the Eurythmics and Robert Plant. Alan Lee Shaw went on to form the Physicals and worked with Brian James, Paul Cook, Glen Matlock, Kirsty MacColl, Dee Dee Ramone and finally ending up as a member of the Damned. So Far So Loud is a 40th anniversary compilation of the most of the songs recorded in the brief history of the band including the UA single Chelsea ‘77 b/w Ain’t No Legend, the Live at the Vortex tracks plus studio and rehearsal demos. The album also comes with a fine collector’s collage of photos and memorabilia on both sides of the inner sleeve from the era.

A lingering guitar note. A cushion of a bassline nudging along a hushed cadence unspooling impressionistic poeticism one halting line at a time; the sparse snap of a snare providing punctuation. This is how Boston's Karate opened their third full-length, 1998's The Bed Is In The Ocean. Perhaps this was a reaction to the aggressive punk tones that marked their previous album, or maybe they hoped to capture the somnambulant dusk on one of those pristine fall days that make living in a town whose population swells when colleges welcome back students all worthwhile. Then again, Karate never made a point of chasing the same idea twice, and "There Are Ghosts" remains in line with the band's stylistic intrepidness and unpredictability. Even the group's lineup appeared constantly in flux. After expanding from a trio to a quartet and employing a dual-guitar attack with 1997's In Place of Real Insight, founding member Eamonn Vitt hung up his axe to attend medical school. Karate soldiered on as a trio, with mid-stream addition Jeff Goddard's bass work helping establish a sidewinding path forward through the smoky jazz melodicism and sun-beaten blues brushstrokes that hung in the background of the band's catalog. In their short time together, Karate helped bolster the national punk ecosystem, a scene in which individual artistic vision was prized but rarely achieved. Their exacting precision and emotive interplay helped recombine the DNA of the dignified grace of slowcore, the hot-and-sweaty atmospherics of the blues, and the high-wire tension of post-hardcore to deliver drawling instrumental curveballs and a furtive riptide climax with a controlled grace on "Outside Is The Drama." Singer-guitarist Geoff Farina frequently teased out the emotional nuances of each song, his worn-in voice shading in the complexities of his enigmatic lyrics; no matter how difficult it may be to parse his snatched-from-daily-life wisdoms, on The Bed Is In The Ocean Farina sounded like a guy who knew exactly the right thing to tell whoever may be listening. And with Karate's snaking turns through quasi-punk reveries no one else appeared capable of mustering, it's comforting to hear it accomplished by a band that knew exactly what they were doing.
