Fully licensed, ltd to 500 copies, 180 gr. The biblical ten commandments are surely the main inspiration behind this concept album originally released on british independent label Young Blood in 1971. The one and only release by Salamander, a short- lived UK four piece , the album is a quintessential prog opera with a heavy effort on Hammond organ and lush orchestral arrangements. Comprised of Alister Benson (Organ, Vocals), Dave Chriss (Bass), John Cook (Drums) and Dave Titley (Lead Vocals, Guitar) the band was often compared to The Moody Blues and Deep Purple Mark I. Even if the 10 tracks are inspired by the holy script, the band was not proven to be Christian rock itself. The album is a sublime pompous pop affair, with a good dose of fuzz guitars and brass section.

Apoteosi were a very rare, if not the one and only, progressive voice coming from the Calabria region. Their self-titled LP, released in 1975, therefore in a period of transition for the prog-rock genre, is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic LP’s and shows how a young and geographically completely ‘out of the loop’ group has been able to create a small jewel. “Apoteosi” is a work deliciously poised between pastoral and refined moments and darker and ‘crimson’ moods, with an extremely original approach and that still deserves to be listened to carefully after exactly 40 years.

Almost every musician in the band will take off towards important careers in the music world, reflecting the talent of a group that even featured a 14-year old keyboardist Massimo Idà. There’s a curious “Coro Alessandroni” presence in the credits: “Apotheosis” was recorded in Rome, therefore we’re probably talking about the same Alessandro Alessandroni who at the time had already worked on many different soundtracks written by Ennio Morricone.

The remarkable rhythm section and the musical cohesion of the musicians are standout elements in this LP, since they were able to create a musical continuum that holds a qualitative tension along the whole work; moreover, there is a close proximity to certain models the English progressive underground, rather than the Italian one, the Canterbury scene in particular. “Apoteosi” stands still today among the hidden and precious gems delivered from a florid era of artistic ferment.

Bassist Dave Nichols, singer Alan Pearse, drummer Derek Perry and guitarist Trevor Povey first came together as Chicago Max, followed by brief stints as Sopwith Camel (not to be confused with the San Francisco-based outfit), Malibou and Armageddon. Working in a blues-rock vein (wasn't every early-1970s band dipping their creative toes in the genre), they were signed by the small Reflection Records, though the label immediately demanded a new name. Musically 'On the Road' harkened back to the bands' blues-rock roots, but extended tracks such as 'Now I Know', the attractive atmospheric ballad 'Reprise' and the Western-inspired 'Since I Went Away' set them apart from most of their contemporaries. Not that it mattered. The album vanished without a trace, followed in short order by the band.

How the Doobie Brothers came to form a “family” is not only a fateful event but also a good story. While getting high on a marihuana joint (or doobie) that was passed from one to the other in a practice room, one of the group apparently uttered the following momentous words: »We are all Doobie brothers«. Later, when in possession of all his faculties, the co-founder of the group, Tom Johnston, was thinking along the lines of a Motown sound, with a bass line resembling that of Seals and Crofts, and vocals in the style of Stevie Wonder. That "Minute By Minute", the first album to appear in the post-Johnston era, so perfectly reflects the mature style of the group is mostly thanks to the two experienced former Steely Dan musicians Jeff “Skunk” Baxter and singer Michael McDonald.
Subtle, gently electrified groove epitomizes the main focus of this album. Its laid back, colourful and glittering sounds are rounded out with powerful rhythms and warm sounds ("What A Fool Believes"). Solo vocals are layered over rolling chords on the piano, a snappy bass and a multi-voiced background to create an appealing harmony ("Here To Love You"). Perfectly tempered and accomplished solos from the lead guitar and saxophone are welcome extras that never drown out the impressive leader of the group. So much brotherliness on a record certainly deserved to be recognized with three Platinum Records and a Grammy Award.

San Francisco, CA - January 25, 2018 - The Wait is over…Actually, it’s back! Nearly three decades after going out of print, Metallica will release a remastered version of The $5.98 EP - Garage Days Re-Revisited as part of thir ongoing remasters series via their own Blackened Recordings label.

Originally released over 30 years ago on August 21, 1987, the collection features the band covering songs by early Metallica influencers such as Diamond Head, Holocaust, Killing Joke, Budgie, and The Misfits. The five songs from the EP were later included as a part of the 1998 multi-platinum release Garage, Inc., but the band felt it was time to bring it back in the original formats!

The $5.98 EP - Garage Days Re-Revisited was remastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, CA.

Nothing much to say about this one, Alphataurus, by sure one of the
ten best Italian prog records of all times. Alpahataurus is a
masterpiece, so well crafted and played that it seems impossible
that's been made by a group of unknowns. The singer Bavaro has a very
original voice, keyboard player Pietro Pellegrini plays with
competence and no self-indulgence, guitar-playing of Guido Wasserman
is well cared and the rhythm section of Oliva and Santandrea creates a
powerful background. The album includes five long compositions of
which Peccato d'orgoglio and La mente vola are the best, the latter
featuring a nice moog intro and a stunning vibes solo.
LP reissue in triple gatefold sleeve as the original album, with sound
taken the master tapes.

Formed in Detroit in 1968, Power of Zeus became the first rock band to be signed by Motown subsidiary label, Rare Earth. After ‘The Gospel According to Zeus’, the group never made another album and the band slipped into obscurity, until it was discovered by the hip hop diggers. Self-Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia was Guided By Voices’ third album, self-released by the band in 1988 in a pressing of 500. While both of the band’s earlier albums exhibit strong songwriting and plenty of vision, it is here that the GBV sound really begins to coalesce. While Devil Between My Toes is rife with contrasts, variety, and dark psychedelia, and its follow up Sandbox is a cohesive ’60s-influenced affair, Self-Inflicted Aerial Nostalgia marries the two approaches to outstanding effect. Unsurprisingly, recording began before Sandbox was even done pressing. These sessions would yield an aborted LP titled Learning To Hunt, but after personnel changes and second thoughts, Robert Pollard shelved most of the tracks, dismissing them as too similar to those on Sandbox. Fair enough, as many of Pollard’s more recent songs were simply on another level than previously. Here are the first of the classic Pollard slow-burners, often built on a simple melodic or rhythmic figure that circles itself ever outward, accumulating heft, variation, and inevitability as the song evolves into something unexpected yet inevitable. It’s the aural equivalent to watching a butterfly grow out of its cocoon. A few things are unique to this particular LP. Original powerhouse drummer Peyton Eric returns for nearly half the tracks, while engineer and lead guitarist Steve Wilbur shines at his brightest, resulting in some of the most thoroughly rocking GBV songs to ever be cut to lacquer, such as “Earful o’ Wax,” which simply explodes out of the speakers when the solo section begins. On the other end of the spectrum, you get Pollard recording perfect pop gems at home with just voice and guitar, which would become a calling card on later GBV albums. There’s simply a tremendous variety of material, all strung together in such a way that the album is all of one piece, a mosaic.

Inspired by a weird mixture between Aldous Huxley's visionary work and some biblical myths, Eyeless in Gaza, (formed in 1980) are one of the most original and creative bands emerging from the early 80's British post-punk scene. An intimate duo line up featuring Martyn Bates - vocals, guitar, organ, and Peter Becker - drums, bass, synth. "Caught in Flux" originally released in 1981 on Cherry Red and reissued here in its original format LP + 12" is their second album. The result of a one-take studio session with no overdubs. A perfectly balanced combination of various elements arising from post-punk, art rock, ambient music, and psychedelia. This was an important step towards a form of music where all these influences were organically integrated into a highly purified sound experience.

Water Messages on Desert Sand was the very first sound creation from the Italian avantgarde duo of Roberto Musci and Giovanni Venosta. A classic work in the genre, released by Chris Cutler's Recommended Records in 1987.
Back in the mid Eighties, Musci & Venosta, both on sampler, synthesizer, guitar, piano, effects and tapes were masters in overlaying and constructing rhythmic and harmonic pictures of transparent sound from electronic, acoustic and documentary source, taking ethnic field recordings (from Africa, Indonesia, Asia, India) as their thematic centre. "Water Messages" finds place In the realm of Eno-Byrne "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" but far more accomplished and developed. A rich moving and still very stimulating work and an essential purchase for anyone interested in adventurous modern art informed by ethnic music and sound explorations. Sensational reissue for the first volume of iconic compilation Simla Beat 70. A psych garage manifesto, the record consisted of groups who appeared at the All-India Simla Beat ‘battle of the bands’ contest held in two years (1970 and '71) in Bombay. The annual event and the records were sponsored by The Imperial Tobacco Company. Bands from all around India would compete for first prize. The album - indeed - was not recorded live on the stage but in a primitive makeshift studio using very little overdubbing or sound reinforcement. The sound is generally influenced by the proto-garage western movement of the mid sixties and later became a massive cult for all the 70s rock fans.
