The undeniable youthful hunger of "Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd“ pumps through the subtly witty songs, all strongly rooted in Southern heritage and working-class values. Independent of the most-requested tune in history, "Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd“ bleeds red, white, and blue and encapsulates the wondrous dichotomies of Southern rock.
Months before Lynyrd Skynyrd enjoyed the privilege of recording its debut, the band entered its seventh year of playing juke joints and assorted dives in a bootstraps effort to land a deal. During a residency at a hardscrabble Georgian club, the group's rambunctious rock, swaggering attitude, blue-collar determination, and country-reared cadence caught the ear of producer/musician Al Kooper. The rest is history. Kooper inked the ensemble to his new imprint and hustled everyone into a Georgia studio for sessions that occurred March through April 1973.
It's at the Studio One space that Lynyrd Skynyrd flashed scampering tempos, cutting give-and-take riffs, loose barroom lines, and off-the-cuff vocalese that entirely separated its approach from that of the more jazz-styled affairs of the Allman Brothers Band. Confederate flags, empty whiskey bottles, cocked pistols, rotgut habits, scorned women, and prodigal drifters populate the songs, nearly all written from first-person perspectives that add to their genuineness. Prophetic touches - twinkling piano notes, soaring mellotrons, a one-off harmonica - provide ideal complements to the intertwined guitar melodies and singer Ronnie Van Zant's comfortable gruffness and way of expressing local customs.

Sabattis were an underground hard-rock band from New York formed in 1968 by Jim Marvin (guitar & lead vocals), Gary Culotta (keyboard and vocals), Larry Wegman (drums) and Rocky Kaler (bass).

Influenced by bands like Deep Purple, Mountain and Grand Funk, they gigged around town playing lot of psychedelic clubs and venues. In 1970, they recorded a demo with the intention of securing a record deal which never came. The demo tape was in fact a fully finished album recorded and engineered by a friend from the band, Mick Gauzaski, who despite using a homemade studio, managed to obtain a real pro sound. No wonder Mick is now a multiple winner Grammy award!

The Sabattis demo remained unreleased until 2011 when Jargon Records discovered the tapes and put out a CD edition with the band involvement.
So we're proud to present a new reissue of "Warning In The Sky", remastered from the original tapes and including an insert with rare photos and liner notes by Klemen Breznikar (It's Psychedelic Baby)

Sabbatis sound is powerful heavy-psych sound with swirling Hammond organ and hard guitar which brings to mind other obscure acts like Jungle.

Svart Records proudly present the vinyl reissue of Grave Pleasures’ modern classic album Motherblood

There are still those rare bands out there in the world that have a unique ability to combine macabre, mystifying rock with a more pop-oriented flare, a la early Bowie or early The Cure. Grave Pleasures are such a band that is equally suited for playing on a stadium stage, or in some Lynchian nightmare. It’s that duality and electrifying contradiction that makes their music so exhilarating.

Lead guitarist Juho Vanhanen (Oranssi Pazuzu) steps up to write the majority of the songs together with British-born outcast Mat McNerney (Hexvessel, ex- Beastmilk/DHG/Code). His screaming telecaster and unique interplay of discord and harmony has become a trademark of the band’s sound. Together with guitarist Aleksi Kiiskilä (ex - Kohu 63), their strings shimmer, hammer and howl out a web of sound which is distinctly Grave Pleasures. Fleshed out by the hypnotic signature rhythms of Valtteri Arino (ex- Beastmilk) on bass and Rainer Tuomikanto frenetically pounding the funeral drums (Ajattara, ex- Shining Swe), this group of well-established punks have started to reach up to their zenith on their sordid testament Motherblood.

Motherblood was recorded at Orgone Studios in the UK with Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Ulver, Paradise Lost) in March 2017 and originally released by Century Media on the same year. The studio was suitably situated on the site of an old WW2 coding bunker and brought with it the isolation of the bleak British countryside. The setting helped give the album an intense and smiling urgency that picks up where 80s UK bands such as Magazine, The Wire and Echo And The Bunnymen left off, but never stopping long enough to look back too much into the past. Featuring guest vocals from David Tibet from Current 93, the band sets the tone for their inspirations, from the esoteric underground of England’s hidden reverse to Manchester’s sound of misery. With their own metallic raw tone clashed with pop hooks, Motherblood is a furiously passionate and contemporary record, which re-defines post-punk as a “war-cry for the eternally doomed.”

They have been described as "A post-punk wet dream," or perhaps more honestly as "bat-shit lunatics," and their music is in a funereal world of its own. Motherblood is a truly danceable, pop-feast of raw, banging pleasure – in all its primitive, gothic tribalism. Dance-floor death rock that brings with it an uncanny sense of inspired song craft that made Bowie’s Berlin era sound so fresh and revolutionary, Killing Joke’s tribal anthems so desperately ominous and dark throbbing melancholy of Depeche Mode’s atmospheric pop so damn sexy. Just about every part of this record bleeds menace, or emanates nuclear fumes. It’s unsafe territory which in turn makes it thrilling, sexy and most dangerously of all, catchy.

On it's initial release in 2012, Colourmeinkindness found Basement pulling from not only one of emo's zeniths-early Sunny Day Real Estate-but also channeling heavy and sometimes hazy `90s alt-rock, with hints of behemoths like Pixies, Silverchair, and Catherine Wheel shaping the sound. Vocalist Andrew Fisher fit that grunge mold of a maudlin-but-thoughtful protagonist, ruminating on toxic relationships, personal desolation, and desperate longing, with slivers of optimism occasionally peeking through. oe Stevens' Peel Dream Magazine project has been turning heads and catching ears since late 2017. Stevens is a brilliant writer and arranger and something of a pop scholar; steeped in the history of everything from 60s sunshine pop to 70s kosmische groove to 90s shoegaze and beyond, every Peel Dream album explores new territory and illuminates new corners of Stevens’ roving interest.

The story began with Peel Dream Magazine's debut album Modern Meta Physic, which was released in Fall 2028 and immediately garnered intense interest from music heads attuned to the sounds of artists like Broadcast, Neu!, Steve Reich & Grouper. 2020 brought Agitprop Alterna and its companion EP Moral Panics, records that assimilated shoegaze textures, but put them in service of sharp tunes and a Stereolab-like attention to space age detail. Most recently the band has struck out in new directions with Pad - an album that looks back affectionately at 60s baroque pop, full of sunshine, swing and sophistication.

Some years later the duo moved to the neighbouring musical town of Athens, GA. They were soon joined by seasoned drummer, John Spiegel, and eventually fulfilled with multi-instrumentalist Kiran Fernandes (keyboards, clarinets, flutes) - descendant of the Elephant 6 Collective scene. Als Bad Magic 2015 veröffentlicht wurde, tat es einen gewaltigen Schlag und alle, die meinten Motörhead wären zahmer geworden, wurden eines Besseren belehrt. Das Album erreichte in Deutschland auf Anhieb die Top 1 Chart Position mit Songs, wie dem Brechkegel “Thunder & Lightning” oder “Teach Them How To Bleed”. Das Album war tough, clean, mean und eines der kompromisslosesten Werke von Motörhead ever! Cameron Webb hatte seinen Anteil daran; er überzeugte die Band, das Album in den NRG North Hollywood, Maple Studios und Grandmaster in Kalifornien live aufzunehmen– zum allerersten Mal in der Ära Kilmister/Campbell/Dee. Von der gewaltigen Punk Energie bei “Electricity” bis hin zu Queens Brian May, der einen sprühenden Gastauftritt bei “The Devil” hat, dazu gewaltige Aggression, Attitüde und exzellentes Songwriting. Phil Campbell hat nicht nur seine besten Gitarrenstücke aufgenommen, er hat die besten Solos in einer Dekade abgeliefert und Mikkey Dees Schlagzeugspiel gab dem Motörhead Sound eine neue Resonanz. Dazu Lemmys raue lyrische Lebensreflektion wie bei “Till The End” und natürlich das unglaubliche Rolling Stones Cover “Sympathy For The Devil”. Eine der versteckten Juwelen des Albums auf „Bad Magic: Seriously BAD Magic“, ist Motörheads berühmteste, international gefeierte Version des David Bowies Klassiker, “Heroes”. Ursprünglich sollte der Song auf Bad Magic (2015) erscheinen, wurde jedoch in der letzte Minute wieder heruntergenommen. Jetzt aber fand „Heroes“ seinen Platz auf „Seriously Bad Magic“.

Since first meeting as midwestern high-schoolers in 2009, Citizen have emerged as one of the most promising young bands in the alternative underground today. The band signed to Run For Cover Records in early 2012, releasing their EP Young States that year as well as a split with labelmates Turnover. In February of 2013, Citizen entered Studio 4 with producer Will Yip (Title Fight, Circa Survive, Daylight) to record Youth, their debut full-length. From the first note of album opener "Roam The Room", the fuzzy, guitar-driven rock songs bleed emotion straight through to closer "Drawn Out". Citizen have called on the ghosts of Brand New and early Nirvana, creating a sound that is familiar but immediately all its own.
