The Paranoyds' debut release on Suicide Squeeze offers a taste of what The Paranoyds have been crafting. The Los Angeles four-piece of Laila Hashemi (keyboardist-vocals), Lexi Funston (guitars/vocals),Staz Lindes (bass/vocals) and David Ruiz (drums, vocals) share a mission to craft songs with the gritty spunk and dark playfulness of a cult-classic splatter film. "Hungry Sam" is a binge-worthy feast of chugging guitars and belly-rounded drums. B-side "Trade Our Sins" is a cautionary slowdance fit for the end of the night or the end of the world. Their self-described "sister vocal act" shares the snarling, over-it-but-totally-into-it vocals throughout their songs, moving from dirty surf-pop guitar jams to power-packed garage rock.

Legions Of Doom, the doom metal supergroup featuring members of The Skull, Trouble, Saint Vitus, Corrosion Of Conformity, are set to release "All Good Things" b/w "Into the Fire" on 7" vinyl via Tee Pee Records. Originally intended for the third The Skull album, work on "All Good Things" began before the passing of Eric Wagner (ex-Trouble) passed away in 2021. With Wagner's lyrics, Karl Agell (Lie Heavy, C.O.C., Blind) takes the lead on vocals, joined by The Skull's Ron Holzner (also ex-Trouble) on bass, Lothar Keller on guitar and Henry Vasquez on drums, with Scott Little on guitar and David Snyder (Trouble, BlackFinger) collaborating. The Deep Purple cover "Into the Fire" on the B side finds the band putting their own spin on a classic from In Rock, and celebrating the roots of doom in early ‘70s swinging groove.After the untimely passing of Eric Wagner, one of doom metal’s most notable and esteemed singers and songwriters, The Skull bassist and bandleader Ron Holzner contemplated long and hard on whether it would be possible to carry on. An idea was born after nine months and a lot of soul-searching. Recalls Holzner, "I decided I want to honor the memory of Eric by still playing some of the songs that he crafted, and ones that (guitarist) Lothar and I wrote with him in The Skull. I want his spirit to become eternal through his words and melody. And I also want to play many songs from the catalogs of everyone involved. We want to honor Eric as well as Reed Mullin (Corrosion Of Conformity), Armando Acosta (Saint Vitus), and most recently, Mark Adams from Saint Vitus. We're all familiar with this story: the pandemic struck, and people found themselves confined to their homes, left alone with their thoughts. Amidst various musical projects, Shelby Cinca reached out to his former bandmates with the idea of creating and instrumental album in the style of FRODUS—a desire that had never materialized during the band's active years. Despite the challenges of life and logistics, the project began to take shape as Nate and Shelby brainstormed and organized their ideas. They recalled an offer from their fellow DC friend and prolific musician, Aaron DC Edge, to provide raw drum tracks. Shelby accepted Aaron's offer to kickstart a rhythmic foundation, and soon the project came to life. Some tracks remained faithful to the original demos, while others underwent substantial editing. Eventually, songs began to take form in an organic manner, despite the geographical distance between the collaborators. Conceptually, the group aimed to craft a soundtrack for a post-human world, inspired by a cryptic phrase hidden in the artwork of Frodus's last album: "when man dies, we become wolves again." These songs conjure images of overgrown and ruined cities, the return of wildlife, and the interplay of light and darkness, peace and savagery, coexisting in the after- math of humanity's downfall. Without the prominent narrative of anguished vocals, the vistas emerge in the mind's eye without barriers, allowing for a more subtle and profound exploration of the themes.

The way that "Mietin Minne Meet" washes along the break between tight and clean, upbeat indiepop melancholia and a nostalgic power-pop-punk sound—that is specifically Scandinavian in its nuance here—brings me back to that heart-in-throat wonderment I felt the first time I heard (and fell in love with) Teini-pää's tunes. Lyrically the record spends most of its time in its own head, trying to work through some shit—which makes a whole lot of sense when you learn that the band name translates to "Teen Head"—and Renata Rojo's artwork reflects this theme flawlessly.

The story of the Capsoul master tapes is well known: after City National Bank of Columbus foreclosed on the debt the label incurred to found the city's most successful soul label, owner Bill Moss hid the tapes at a family friend's farm in Central Ohio, looking to dodge repossession. But a flood finished the job that the bank started, and Capsoul's legacy was left to the hands of soul collectors who arrived a generation later. Or so everyone thought. Unearthed in songwriter Dean Francis' basement were two then-unheard Four Mints songs, produced by Francis and recorded in the Capsoul studios with the Capsoul session musicians. "No Longer" and "Endlessly" made for a fitting postscript to the Capsoul story, told by the label's greatest group, and pressed here to bevel-edged 45s with lovingly recreated label art_a full invocation of the magic of an original Bill Moss production.
