Barrie Lindsay is a soft spoken, obsessive producer and songwriter who grew up tinkering with instruments in Ipswich, Massachusetts. After graduating from Wesleyan in 2012 with a degree in music, Lindsay formed her first band with her brother, a 5-piece group called Grammar. She spent her 20's quietly making music in Boston and working at a sculpture studio until she was discovered on Soundcloud by a manager who encouraged her to move to Brooklyn and pursue a career in music by forming a band. Lindsay obliged and soon Barrie, the 5-piece band, was born. After a number of successful singles, Barrie released their debut in 2019, Happy To Be Here, earning buzzy press, TV syncs, and new fans around the globe. A month after Happy To Be Here came out, the band parted ways and Lindsay reintroduced Barrie as a solo project. In the two years since then, the 32-year old suffered the loss of a parent, and married her wife, Gabby. While Lindsay has maintained a separation between her personal feelings and lyricism inprevious works, she allowed herself to find catharsis in songamidst the intense love and grief she was experiencing. One night during a moment of grief, Lindsay couldn't bring herself to set up the mic properly in her studio. Instead, she opted to shout across the room in a true "fuck-it" moment. Liking the effect this produced, she decided to stick with it, yielding "Dig," a self-produced single featuring an impressionistic slew of slide guitar, dulcimer, and mandolin. You can hear her newfound sense of boldness, as she wails the song's central refrain, giving herself over to emotion: "I can't get enough of you / Where did you come from?" Whereas "Dig" floats in a seeming free-time, Barrie's second single, "Frankie," is locked into a driving, propulsive rhythm. Its bass synth, which remains constant throughout, is meditative and hypnotic. Among skittering arpeggios and melodic hooks, the song's message asks listeners to consider capitalism. Political pop can be awkward, but Lindsay's is subtle and poignan...

Out of print and lost to time since 2014, “Sierra’s Song” was originally issued on October 13, 2009, via the Beverly Hills

90210 soundtrack. In addition to THE All- American Rejects, the compilation also

boasted a collaboration between Adele and THE Raconteurs, another one with N*e*r*d featuring Santigold, and plenty of exclusive tracks from other notables of the era. Chronologically, “Sierra’s Song” was recorded around the time of When The World Comes Down, AAR’s third studio album. In an abstract sense, the song is somewhat

of a sonic bridge between certain ballad- centric compositions and arrangements

explored on Move Along (“It Ends Tonight,” “Straightjacket Feeling”) and those later realized on When The World Comes Down (“The Wind Blows,” “Another Heart Calls”). To celebrate the 15th anniversary of When The World Comes Down and properly kick off the band’s first North American headlining tour in over a decade (starting August 11, 2023), Dark Operative is ecstatic to bring “Sierra’s Song” back from the beyond via a special full-color 7” picture disc flexi included with every single copy of the reissued LP. Individual standalone copies are also available for those who already own a copy of the LP and the song can once again be heard on any digital platform worldwide.

Following a chance meeting in a library and an overheard discussion about Daphne Oram, Delia Derbyshire and the Radiophonic Workshop- Dom FC was sent a bunch of demos and 2 of these fabulous pieces grace their first release on 7" here. The band describe themselves and their sound thus: “Digital Roses are two queer multidisciplinary arts based in London, whose sound has been described as “hyper-soul” meets “Nordic noir electronica”; a musical feast of experimental art pop, ambient noise, and wistful soul melodies. Rising from a multidimensional conceptual framework, Digital Roses avail contemporary visuals, computational forms, sound synthesis, and sound art, together with organic instrumentation and voice, to explore the emotional landscapes of the human condition. They aim to share their journey, observations, and musings with the same beautiful, painful, and sometimes aggressive nature that can be found everywhere there is humanity. ‘Waterfalls’ is a song inspired by the mysticism of the Toka Leya Waterfall tribes of Victoria Falls. The tribe’s name loosely translates to ‘those who crossed over to keep away from trouble’, and their drums are believed to hold supernatural powers. The song is the first stop in the imagined mystical journey the Digital Roses take us on. The aftermath of this musical exodus is where we encounter the mysterious and haunting lamentation that is the B-side track ‘Under the Sea’”. Beating off a mini label tug of war for the right to release the mighty “waterfalls”, Feral Child is thrilled to bring this debut release to the table. Some last copies, found in the bands rehearsal room. When Von Spar made their ciritcally acclaimed entrance in the pop circuit in 2003 (e.g. coverstory in Spex Magazine) they were regarded as the German answer to the Post-Punk/No-Wave-renaissance. But their debut was more a clever parody about eighties-style-hipster-bands. Three years later and wiser the supergroup (with members of Urlaub in Polen, Oliver Twist, Aggro Cologne) returns with an uncompromising album that gets ahead of all expectations and will surprise their audience and critics who will be shocked. This is not a band following the latest trend. Detached from the usual style issues Von Spar have exorsized the Zeitgeist and overtaken the discourse. There is no scheme. Anything goes. Their new musical language is inspired by seventies Krautrock taking lines of flight to Fluxus art, Minimal Music and early TripHop. Apart from ringtone-compatible hits Von Spar reanimate the classical album-format. The two 20-minute long songs combine the spirit of exploration from Can and Kraftwerk with the conceptual aesthetics of Steve Reich and John Cage and techniques of dark, psychedelic multi-layering by Neurosis and Bohren & Der Club of Gore. All references are permantly ruptured, adopted and newly interweaved. With two new members the five-headed pack recorded in the legendary Electric Avenue Studio, Hamburg, with producer Tobias Levin (Tocotronic, Blumfeld, Kante). Their new labelbase Tomlab offers the congenial platform for this unusual journey. The new album of Von Spar reclaims music as a truthful place for concentration and collective energy from which newness enters the world.

A-side song Give and Take is 4 sturdy minutes of drone garage groove capturing the feeling of loose tension in between giving and taking and pushing and pulling. On the flip side, Nickel and Dime is a mucky pop song zeroing in on a dude unfit to pull his own damn weight and, from the sounds of it, not worth the trouble.

Luckily for us, Teddy and the Rough Riders have been burning up the Nashville underground over the past few years. With roots deep in psychedelia, the group stripped back all the trimmings to a Velvets rhythm section and steeped it in a Music Row dive bar for their own brand of country rock that is poppy, precise, well-educated and completely self-aware. What, then, would be the point of an exaggerated drawl or a convenient new interest in roping cattle? The Teddys' sound is country that, somewhat paradoxically, lives and breathes in the city.

So, it is fitting that their A-side single ''I Found Somethin''' throws down a strong psych card, with bassist Ryan Jennings' vocals leading us through a vibrant and playfully painted scene filled with a can of worms, desk drugs and big wet dogs. The second track ''Neon Cowboy'', guided this time by guitarist Jack Quiggins, dives down a rabbit hole of self-reflection and social questioning, with Luke Schneider's atmospheric pedal steel and Nick Swafford's always-tasteful drums giving it real backbone. For fans of The Byrds, Link Wray and CCR. This one's not to be missed.

Backed by a new, larger ensemble in 2016, Dowse’s downbeat narrative and feral croons weave in and out of Casey’s maniacal guitar lines, like a tweaked-out Withnail and I fronting Swans. Tales of small town desperation, crime, sleeze and poverty beat down hard; there’s no sleek metropolitan romanticism of London or Manchester, this is JG Ballad, this is David Cronenberg shooting a Ken Loach script… It is Chatham at 3am, a Grimsby pub-fight on a Friday night… it is bleak, grim and writhing with the parts of life you don’t want to see. The pair have spent the better part of a decade creating this 'scumbag panorama’ with their own illustrations and art works (they both met at art university), designs and animations to enhance your experience.

The Bay Area's Smiles are back with their second 7" and what a blast it is. Superbly-crafted pop is the order of the day here, with echoes of everything from prime Teenage Fanclub to Big Star to the southern power-pop of folks like Dwight Twilley and Tommy Hoehn. "Gone For Good" is 3:33 of pop perfection, with a marvelous melody, heavenly harmonies and a bit of a triumphant guitar solo sneaking in at the end. On the flip side we get another gem in "This Boy," a brief tune that still feels fully-formed, rather in the style of fellow West Bay songsmith Tony Molina. It's developing into quite the scene they have down there, and as long as the results are as thrilling as this single we can't wait to hear what's next. Part of the SLR30 Singles Series.

HIGHLIGHTSAs a follow-up to our previous work reissuing the recordings of Pau Riba, key figure in Catalonia's counter-culture and music scene, Munster presents "Ars Erótica", one of his most sought-after singles, in the 50th anniversary of its original release.It includes alternative edits of two songs included on his classic album Dioptria/1, great examples of his psychedelic folk-rock style at the time that also picture the chilled-out vibe at the studio where Riba was backed by the band Om and some guest friends.DESCRIPTIONAs a follow-up to our previous work reissuing the recordings of Pau Riba, key figure in Catalonia's counter-culture and music scene, Munster presents "Ars Erótica", one of his most sought-after singles, in the 50th anniversary of its original release.This is a misterious and surprising record that was originally released on Concèntric and featured alternative edits of two songs previously included on his classic album Dioptria/1. 'Ars Erotica (non est mihi)' is edited to last just under 5 minutes, after taking out some verses and arrangements, although keeping intact its psychedelic folk-rock essence, with plenty of fuzz guitars.On the flipside we can find the possibly most interesting recording on this single, clearly showing what the vibe and work method were at the studio: all the musicians playing simultaneously in a chilled-out atmosphere. This edit of 'Rosa d'abril (l'amor s'hi posa)' starts right in the same point where the album edit finishes, with Pau Riba backed by the band Om jamming and some of the guest friends at the studio joining in, including the film producer and script writer Joaquim Jordà, who Riba wrote this song for.

Title track “M.A.T.” dominates the top deck with a mild warning to Greek riot pigs: “I don't have a name, I don't have a number, I kill you and send you naked back to your mother,” (but sung in Greek, as Mondo Mongo dictates the tongue of the mother). The lunatic vox of Sanja Djordjevic has been enlisted this go-round for a cover of “Mora u Se Boriti,” originally by Serbian new-wavers Boye. Already a brilliant slice of aggro and off-kilter post-punk in its primitive form, now updated with extra venom for demanding punks of exceptional taste.
