After the famous Andre Tanker’s “Back Home”, Jamwax is very proud to reissue River Come Down in its 12'' version.
Originally released on the Contraband label in 1979 and recorded at famous Semp studio in Trinidad, “River Come Down” is a blend of islands funk, soul, disco, soca with also a touch of gospel: “River, the river come down, the river come down, the river down...wind blow like a hurricane...the river come down, washing the right, washing the wrong, washing the weak, washing the strong, the river come down...”
On the other side you will find an obscure synth instrumental released on an impossible to find 7'' in 1986. “Movin Round” was produced by Andre Tanker for Horace Wilson's Turn of The Tide. This song was absolutely under the radar and remains a strong banger for any dances.

Black Uhuru first formed in 1972, initially as Uhuru (Swahili for 'freedom'). Over the years the group has undergone several line-up changes with Derrick "Duckie" Simpson as the mainstay. As a unique singer in his own right, Delroy "Junior" Reid had the opportunity to reach a wider international audience when he was offered the chance to be the lead singer in Black Uhuru in 1986. Jr. Reid was from the same area of Kingston, shared a similar vocal style and already had a reputation for writing strong reality lyrics. After joining the group, Jr. Reid elevated the group to another level delivering militant songs such as Let Us Pray and Dread In The Mountain. On the La Tempesta Dub label, a collection of dub versions from the Italian reggae band Mellow Mood’s latest album, Large, released last Spring. Paolo Baldini produces 12 authentic-sounding dub versions. The word “authentic” does not lack context here, since just like the original production, which was characterised by a “live & direct” approach both in the writing and recording, Large Dub was made following the spirit of the founding fathers of this musical technique when they recorded their dub versions: tracks run separately through the desk’s channels and are orchestrated in one take only, from start to finish, with no overdubs or additional computer programming.

Mastered in Austin, Texas by Chris Athens (Damian Marley, Erykah Badu, Ghostface Killa) and coming with a luxurious cover by California-based collage artist Dewey Saunders (Chronixx, Anderson .Paak), who also created the cover art for Mellow Mood’s Large and who now “dubbed” the graphics of that previous work.

The title is a boast from the early soundclash era when many of Campbell's tracks, here produced primarily by Bunny Lee, would play first on King Tubby’s Home Town Hi-Fi in Jamaica. The songs run the range from clash-ready standards like "Mash You Down" and "The Gorgon" to cultural commentaries like "Jah Jah Me Horn Yah" and "Bandulu" to the lover’s masterpiece "The Investigator" which leads off the set.
