Als The Residents im Jahr 1978 die 33 RPM EP Duck Stab! Im 7" Format veröffentlichten, war das für die Gruppe eine nette Abwechslung von den sich über Jahre (1975 -1979) hinziehenden, anspruchsvollen und experimentellen Aufnahmen an ihrem epochalen Eskimo Album. Außerdem brauchte das Label Ralph Records, eine Einnahmequelle um die lange Phase ohne ein "echtes neues" Album zu überbrücken. Zur allgemeinen Überraschung wurde die EP ein Hit und verkaufte mehr als 50.000 Einheiten in wenigen Monaten. Die Nachfrage liess auch in der Folge nicht nach und so drängte Ralph Records The Residents eine zweite EP - Buster & Glen - aufzunehmen, die dann schlussendlich zusammen mit Duck Stab! als LP-Release zu einem Klassiker und großem Verkaufserfolg wurde. Einige Jahre später, zwischen 1981 und 1988 übernahm Night Flight, eine damals populäre Sendung im US-Kabelfernsehen, Video-Clips von The Residents in ihr reguläres Programm auf - insbesondere "Hello Skinny", das legendäre Video zum Duck Stab! / Buster & Glen Album. Für viele Fans der Band war Night Flight der erste Berührungspunkt mit The Residents. Im Jahr 2016 feierte der Sender unter dem Namen Night Flight plus fröhliche Wiederauferstehung als Internet Streaming-Service und bat The Residents anlässlich des 40ten Jubiläums des Programms um einen Video-Beitrag. Da die Gruppe ohnehin an einer Live-Version von Duck Stab! als Teil ihrer 50ten Jubiläums-Tour im Jahr 2022 arbeitete, bot sich Duck Stab! Alive! als eine naheliegende Wahl an, um daraus eine Show für Night Flight plus zu produzieren. Und so begaben sich The Residents unter der Leitung von Regisseur John Sanborn und Kameramann Frazer Bradshaw vom 19. bis 21. Mai 2021 in die 25th Street Studios in Oakland, Kalifornien um die neu ausgearbeitete Performance Duck Stab! Alive! Live im Studio aufzunehmen. For the first time anywhere, a live album from THE Residents’ 2008 Bunny Boy tour! Bunny Boy was one of the most ambitious projects in the group's long history of experimental concept driven studio albums and stage shows. It began as an interactive web series about an old friend, "Bunny" trying to find his missing brother and soon after became a studio album, a soundtrack album, and a stage show that toured Europe and the United States. By the time the tour had finished the story had grew to 66 web episodes and eventually sprouted two additional limited-edition CDs of more studio recordings, a book that collected all the email responses to the videos, and even a comic book. This is the only tour by The Residents that has never had a live album released in any way. Now available in a limited edition of 250 copies on Hot Pink & Black Swirled Vinyl or 250 Blue & Black Marble Vinyl. All come inside hand-numbered matte finish gatefold jackets.

"The Land of Fire and Ice" has long been known for immense natural beauty, ancient folklore, hakarl, aluminum and hairy little horses. What you may not know is that punks were also there from the very start of the show. One of the most important bands to emerge from the thriving Reykjavík scene was Vonbrigði. Though they draw influence from UK and European post-punk and American hardcore, have no doubts Vonbrigði were 100% their own unique thing. They didn't receive a ton of international attention at the time and sort of faded into history but not without releasing a handful of songs, including a blistering hardcore track on the Rokk Í Reykjavík soundtrack compilation and an incredible EP on the fledgling Gramm label owned by Ásmundur Jónsson and Einar Örn (of Purrkur Pillnikk, Kukl and, more notably, Sugarcubes fame). All of the aforementioned songs are included here along with the rest of the previously (and unbelievably, I mean how is material this amazing not released immediately after recording it? Crazy!) unreleased '82/'83 sessions. 71 minutes of sweat and grit. Who needs volcanoes when you have Vonbrigði's fire? Recordings were taped on September 16th in 1973 at the infamous Whiskey a Go-Go in Los Angeles and captures the Stooges at a pivotal point, just as they were about to break up. Iggy & the Stooges careen out of control as the singer taunts the audience and the band tries to keep it together. A handful of rarities, such as "Head On," are featured in addition to a selection of material drawn mainly from Raw Power, but the actual songs aren't that important -- it's how the band sounds, and they do sound raw, abrasive, and frightening. This reissue comes in deluxe gold mirror board gatefold sleeve, the speed is corrected, audio cleaned and mastered for vinyl.

Straight out of Los Angeles, powerviolence band Zulu are here to share their life experiences and make a comfortable environment for everyone they come in contact with. The latest signing to Flatspot Records, the label will be releasing, for the first time on vinyl, the band’s debut EP Our Day Will Come (2019) and its follow-up My People...Hold On (2020) this summer. Formed by vocalist Anaiah Lei (also of hardcore band Dare) in 2019, Zulu is rounded out by Dez Yusuf (guitar), Braxton Marcellous (guitar), Satchel Brown (bass), and Christine Cadette (drums). Citing influences from Jill Scott to Weekend Nachos, the band’s style is fiercely original, laced with heavy breakdowns intertwined with samples of pivotal moments in black culture. The band has already seen praise from Stereogum, No Echo, and New Noise Magazine, and have a tour on the way with fellow California innovators Scowl this summer. Zulu carries a strong message, but it’s also about having fun, as Anaiah puts it - “Zulu isn’t a political band at all. I started Zulu because I wanted to be in an all black band and talk about what we go through and been going through. But also celebrating our lives at the same time.”

If "Joy As An Act Of Resistance" was meant to detail the band's manifesto, the band's highly anticipated third album, "Ultra Mono," is the sound of IDLES heading to the front for these principles, ram in hand. Musically constructed to capture the feel of a hip-hop album (Kenny Beats has also participated in programming on several tracks) the songs have a double language, mixing vitriolic sneers with a direct social comment on the band's past work. The late eighties were an exciting time to get caught up in the hardcore scene. While many of the early eighties pioneers of the music had moved along, the scene went through something of a renaissance with a new crop of energetic kids who had seized the power of the music and molded it into something that was relevant to the style of their times. Leading the pack in this regeneration was Revelation Records, who released a clutch of seven-inch singles and albums by bands like Sick OF IT ALL, Gorilla Biscuits, Bold, Judge and Chain OF Strength that defined where the scene was at that time. Somewhere in central New Jersey, a group of kids attending Ewing High School were spinning these records incessantly while attending many of these bands’ live shows. The combination set their minds ablaze with inspiration and so they started Mouthpiece in January of 1990. In between getting their band from the basement to the clubs, an abrupt change happened within the hardcore scene. Most of the bands Mouthpiece wanted to share the stage with had suddenly broken up or changed paths. With no concern for the changes in sound and style going on around them, they went along with their original agenda and unconsciously became the band to lead straight edge hardcore into the nineties until their demise in 1996. Can’t Kill What’s Inside: The Complete Discography contains the band’s entire recorded output as well as previously unreleased soundboard recorded live tracks. The packaging contains photos of the band as well as a complete listing of every show the band has ever played in their existence. “A Chasm Here And Now” is the critically acclaimed debut album of Justin Stephens’ (ex-Passion Play) current band Wires & Lights, with which the Berlin based indie-pop/post-punk quartet redeemed everything they announced at earlier live shows and on the Pagan Love Songs Vol. 3 compilation (2014) with an early demo version of “Swimming”. Right from the off, the brilliant opener “Drive” leaves nothing to be desired in terms of thrilling, hymnic danceability. A grandiosely updated “Swimming” sustains the urgent sense of drive unconventionally, before “Anyone”, one of the most gripping and sweeping mid-tempo ballads of recent years, changes down a gear. And that was just the beginning. Every time you think you’ve grasped the band musically, they immediately prove you wrong with the next track, e.g. with “Dead To Us”, the calmest and most introspective track according to its loss subject, which stands out for a beautiful ending that develops without haste. If you’re still in any doubt, listen to the conclusion of the album: “Going, Going, Gone” – this masterfully polished gem of a song, with its New Model Army-like bubbling structure, its genetic connection with Passion Play’s “Running On Empty” and its epic deliverance will be a classic for all time that everyone always wants to hear.

Following a trio of explosive singles, the band finally bring us their debut full-length album, Retaliation, on the London-based punk institution La Vida Es Un Mus. Having formed in early 2020 and featuring a crew of members with long-term associations to the London punk scene, The Chisel quickly secured a reputation as one of the most exciting bands from a pool of contemporaries that includes Chubby & The Gang, Stingray and Big Cheese. Their sound is rooted firmly in Punk but with influences that run across the board to create a distinctive blend of Oi!, anarcho, UK-82 and hardcore. Retaliation is an unmistakably British record that draws a line from 1982 up to the present day, pushing its way into your collection and torching your stereo. Opening with the agitated force of 'Unlawful Execution', the tone is firmly set by a song that addresses the brutality of the Met Police ("Tell me what's the difference between right or wrong / When a copper gets to blast a lad who did nothing wrong"). 'Come See Me' is a ferocious ode to camaraderie in the face of mouthy boneheads and bellends. 'Shit Life Syndrome' is a poisoned reference to the same cynical phrase used by physicians to describe the effects of people living under poverty and in the grips of substance abuse ("How can you expect people to act nicely, they've all been left on the edge of society"). It's one of many songs influenced by singer Cal's experiences of growing up in the working-class town of Blackpool. Cal states: "Blackpool as a town is often overlooked or even looked down upon, I wanted to write lyrics which gave the people of my town a voice". Hailing from Los Angeles and coated in a layer of warbled analog glory comes the debut full length album from Smirk, the solo project helmed by Nick Vicario (Public Eye, Crisis Man). These 11 meticulously crafted tracks originally appeared on two small run cassettes in 2020 and have since been remastered at North London Bomb Factory and paired with fresh artwork from Smoking Room. A trebly & wiry punk sound comes into effect straight out of the gate, reminiscent of the early Dangerhouse Records singles as well as the “Bloodstains Across...” comps (to be more precise). But there's far more to Smirk —with great songwriting, precision, and instrumentation that seem to emanate from a past that never was, bursting any preconceived sub-genre bubbles from this reality and those parallel to it. ‘lp’ is a tour de force of bratty, pissed off punk energy.

We all spent plenty of time at CBs and though this is not our audition night set, it captures the early frenetic energy of the band as well as my lack of scintillating stage banter. Sheridan Frances ‘francie’ Medosch wouldn’t be born for another 28 years after Parsons’ 1973 death, but that Cosmic American sound was waiting for her all the same. On Big Fall, she embraces it like an old friend. In 2018, at the age of 17, Medosch put out her debut Florry album Brown Bunny (Sister Polygon)… During the pandemic, she began writing again. Her headspace had changed a lot. Face TO Face are a rarity in the music world: A band that not only helped define a sound, but who continue to fine-tune their music with each subsequent release. This is undoubtedly true of the band’s tenth full-length No Way out but Through, a melodic-punk masterpiece teeming with blistering guitar riffs, fleetfingered basslines and vocal harmonies that are so infectious they’ll be rattling around your brain for weeks on end. Then again this should come as no surprise to anyone who has followed face to face’s 30-year history. While their sound is rooted in the West Coast punk genre they helped pioneer, No Way out but Through raises the sonic bar when it comes to songwriting, arranging and musicianship. This time around, singer/guitarist Trever Keith was able to get out of his proverbial comfort zone by renting a cabin near Malibu, California, and holed up with bassist Scott Shiflett as they transformed a collection of their respective demos and ideas into the polished recording you hear today. Production-wise, the band teamed up again with Juno Award winning producer Siegfried Meier and Davey Warsop (Foo Fighters, Green Day) and later was mixed and mastered by Jason Livermore at the legendary Blasting Room. The result is an album that’s sound quality mirrors its sonic weight and is the best-sounding face to face album to date.

Debet release from 'They Fell From The Sky'! They Fell From The Sky formed after Colin Doran (Hundred Reasons) and Jason Bowld (Bullet For My Valentine, Pitchshifter, Killing Joke) got together for Jason’s collaborative project ‘This Is Menace’. They then started writing with Dave Draper and completed the line up with Lee Erinmez (Snuff) and Oly Edkins. Once in the studio the band’s song writing flourished and the album ‘Decade’ began to take shape, blending the multitude of styles each member brought to the table. The songs started to flow and the sound honed to make the unique song writing juggernaut that is ‘They Fell From The Sky’!
