As one of the most sonically challenging and visually unique bands of their generation, Daufødt swept the floor of the underground with their debut “1000 Island” and won a Norwegian Grammy in the Rock category. They could easily become the Next BIG Name IN Rock, but – no thanks! got other things to do. Instead, the Daufødt-gang circled back to the underground, hooked up with Lasse Marhaug, associated Sunn0)))-member and recent producer of Jenny Hval and Thurston Moore.

On their upcoming sophmore album “Aromaterapi”, Marhaug has challenged the band on all levels and pumped them into Absolute Sonic MAYHEM-mode, giving associations to similar noise-rock-mongers as Napalm Death, Swans, The Body and Årabrot. Likewise, the scorning lyrics of the debut that made local billionaires spam singer Annika with self-righteous messages have been sharpened into something even more destructive and dangerous.

When we now can announce the first single from the album, one thing is for sure: Daufødt has big amps, but even bigger ambitions. “Knekken” (translated: “the crack, like in cracking you teeth..)

The dictionary describes to crack like this: “to break something so that it does not separate, but very thin lines appear on its surface”.Daufødt, on the other hand, shows us that the crack, Knekken, is the musical equivalent of being hit by a freight train full of decibels. The crack is about getting your snout crushed, regardless of the direction of the sky, and with an unknown sender.

Daufødt consists of bassist Eskild Myrvoll (Mall Girl, Kanaan, Blodkvalt), vocalist, visual artist and designer Annika Linn Verdal Homme, guitarist Eirik Albrethsen Reithaug and drummer Mads Antonsen Gerzić.

The band says: “This album is clearly something else than the first album. It’s harder, faster and more violent – and made to better fit the times we live in. The first album was written in 2019, while Aromatherapi was written in 2021, when the world looked quite different. The bold creative choices we have made with Lasse are made not to be naive, but to actually be honest with ourselves and the audience about how things really are.”

Punch Drunk is the second album from London-based trio More Kicks. The band’s self-titled debut album was a concise and ragged lesson in pop songwriting dripping in melody, cynicism and energy—Punch Drunk marks a new era for the band. Heavier, more expansive, more twists and turns. It veers from sparkling harmonies to fearsome riffing in the blink of eye, with never a second wasted. As with the first record, it was recorded live on to 2-inch tape. It’s bottled lightning and the sound of a band firing on all cylinders. James Sullivan aka Sulli (vox / guitar), Kris Hood (drums),and Paolo Mantovani (bass / vox) have cooked up a rare alchemy. Emotional Rescue returns to what it does best by unearthing musical gems of the British post punk scene with a double pack compilation of Bristol's short lived Recreational Records. Teaming up with Bristol Archive Records, 10 songs are remastered, reissued and cut loud for DJs and collectors. What is most striking is, although created in the space of just two years, with a disparate collection of artists, musicians and producers coming together, the music holds a considerable cohesive sound. Set up in 1981 by Bristol based shop, Revolver Records, Recreational was formed as an independent label with its own distribution, as part of the co-operative, Cartel. The label was a natural progression from the shop's punk's DIY aesthetic, acting as a hang out and inspiration for local artists from Mark Stewart to later staff member, Daddy G. 'Get It Right' starts with a one-off project in Scream + Dance, who similarly, alongside local bands Glaxo Babies, Maximum Joy and Rip Rig & Panic, explored post-punk with funk and jazz all underpinned with heavy tribal and dub influenced rhythms. 'In Rhythm', with its infectious groove, acts as a call to arms for the compilation, coming in two parts, the latter dropping away to explore the links with dub. Next is possibly the label's biggest band in Talisman, going on to be active up to today, their release 'Run Come Girl / Wicked Dem' are both featured in long 12" mixes that explore the classic 'discomix' of vocal and dub in longform. Animal Magic lead with the pack's title, 'Get It Right' a short-driven punk funk burst that captures the label's sound to perfection. However, much of the compilation is given over to the more experimental side of the bands, with a high percentage the B sides where they headed to the mixing desk for echo chambered dub inspired versions. X-Certs' 'Untogether; Electric Guitars' 'Don't Wake The Baby' and Animal Magic's 'Trash The Blad' are culled from the flips of various 7" singles and all are a fusion of percussive rhythms, studio trickery and dub inspired techniques, played out against the "Do it Yourself" aesthetic of the time. To complete is London based, soukous, kwela and afrobeat inspired collective, Ivory Coasters' 'Mungaka Makossa' and two rhythmic curveballs by Scream + Dance in 'Giocometti Wicked Mix)' and their riotous (and short) closer, 'In Pink & Black'. "Get it right this time, get it right!".

One of pop punk most underrated bands, Huntington Beach the Crowd were blasting out saccharine pieces of four-chord glory back when Nofx and the Vandals were learning how to tune. Since the late 70s, they have helped to construct the SoCal scene, never showing signs of slowing down despite watching their contemporaries endure far more lucrative careers. Initially on Posh Boy records, then on Flipside records, this is their third album on Flipside recently reissued on Gummopunx records. With even a cursory listen to this re-release of Letter Bomb, we find the band at their strongest. Simplistic and straightforward, the songs here are still strongly influenced by the brashness and street sensibility of the late 70s British punk rock that initially influenced them.

Recently rediscovered Birmingham art punk recorded in 1978-1982. An all-male combo, despite the name, the Dangerous Girls released their first single in 1979, “Dangerous Girls/I Don’t Want To Eat (With The Family)” and started touring the UK offering use of the PA, lights and equipment to local bands who wish to play. Their second single, the 'Taaga' ep released in the same year on the Happy Face label, reached number one in the last indie charts of the 70's. Reminding of early-era Gang Of Four, Minimum Joy, Slits, Wire, and all things post-punk or as John Peel himself defined them, 'spasm rock'. After a BBC session and a couple more singles, the Demolition Girls unfortunately broke up right while recording an album. This compilation is brought to life by the punk archivists at Rave Up Records and contains their full 1978-1982 production.

¿Donde estan Ardillas? We hope somebody’s seen ‘em recently. Legend goes that these Puerto Rican rodents (formed ten years prior to Davilla 666 with whom they share members) like to take their time, hitting the studio to record their first album (2011’s self-titled LP on Cha Cho Records) a decade after their inception, and laying down this second, mucho overdue album somewhere on the far side of inbetween. If you’ve ever happened across Ardillas on stage, you know well (and you’ll never forget!) that whatever delicate care they’ve serenaded you with is a decoy vehicle for sweaty and swingin’ rock’n’roll licks from the Chuck Berry-cum-Flamin’ Groovies School o’ Truth. The Lipstick Killers released just one single in their life time – the perfect ’79 Deniz Tek-produced pairing of “Hindu Gods of Love” and ”Shakedown Usa” on their own Lost in Space Records and Greg Shaw’s Voxx Records - but a posthumous live album and a couple of archival releases followed. (Cold Wave/PostPunk) SUIR is a duo based in Cologne, which started in the beginning of 2017 when Denis Wanic (guitar and vocals) and Lucia Seiß (synths, guitar and bass) joined forces for their band project. In a constant play of guitars and synthesizers, supported by minimalist and electronic drum rhythms and melancholic lyrics, SUIR produces reverberated shoegaze and cinematic, atmospheric music defined by dense and complex sound walls.This rich, velvety sound constantly shifts between post punk, dark shoegaze, heavy dark wave, and psych, but due to their own sound creations, none of these genres can be unambiguously attributed. The music combines heavily influences by contemporary bands like Bleib Modern, The Underground Youth, The KVB, The Brian Jonestown Massacre or shoegaze pioneers like My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain.Their live performance is expanded by a visual program which is strongly influenced by the origin of the two from the fields of art history and philosophy and builds a filigree and gloomy overall concept. SUIR has toured from eastern to western Europe, performing as main or support acts for artists like Motorama, Lebanon Hanover, Esben and the Witch, The Underground Youth and The KVB, and appeared at major festivals that include Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT), NCN-Festival and Owls 'n' Bats Festival. Willy brought it in to the band right just as they were drifting away from that sound. My Blood Bleeds The Darkest Blue was inspired by those great Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood duets. It has a real desert feel to it but at the time the Delines were working on The Sea Drift which was set on the Gulf Coast. So both are songs that the band loved but songs that were left orphaned and they thought they better give them a proper home before they got lost along the way.

Yet throughout, the Birds in Row manifesto is the same as it’s always been: love each other. “We really want people to know that they’re not alone, and that they can count on each other,” they say. “The way we treat each other is political. It’s OK to trust each other. All the movies about catastrophes show people turning against each other, but that’s not what would happen. When people are in the shit, they help each other. 1970s/'80s San Francisco art-punk band 14-track collection includes remixed tracks and new unearthed, previously unreleased recordings!It's hard to let go of a good thing. More than four decades after The Mutants first appeared on the San Francisco underground music scene, four of the original members are still playing shows together under that name in 2022. After all, mutants are known to mutate, and that's what this colorful, energetic musical collective has been doing off and on since 1977.Perhaps even more surprisingly, the sessions for their lone album, 1982's Fun Terminal, continue to bring forth lost nuggets. In punk and new wave lore, Fun Terminal is considered a troubled project. Prior to the album's appearance, the Mutants had released only one 7-inch single -- 1980s' The Mutants EP -- and the band also had songs featured on two local compilations. Both the EP and one of the compilations were issued by 415 Records, the legendary Bay Area indie that made the jump from the new wave trenches to the majors when they signed a deal with Columbia Records in 1981. Many scenesters felt that the Mutants should have begun album sessions for 415 immediately after the EP, but that didn't happen.Each of the 14 tracks on the new collection, "Curse of the Easily Amused" has either been remixed, or sourced from previously unreleased tapes. "From the band's point of view, each cut is a substantially different version than what might have appeared before," explains current Mutants bassist and project producer Peter Conheim. Eight songs have never been officially released on vinyl or CD in any form. The versions of 'Think Think Think' and 'Tribute to Russ Meyer' feature radically different approaches than what was heard on the Fun Terminal reissue. We recently rediscovered a tape reel that included those songs. The Mutants discarded or forgot about a ridiculous amount of music during its first eight years.
