Slovenly Recordings selects GOB Psychic from Aarhus, Denmark’s buzzing underground. Inspired by the endless wave of Melbourne punk rock since Melbourne began punk rocking, as well as oddball sounds from the Midwestern U.S.A, the Gob Psychic spin is just as abrasive, aggressive and compelling as anyone’s music that put them on this warpath. Their debut “Rent Payer” 7inch reeks of alienation, and an apathetic stance on having to put their pants on one leg a time to get to earn some green and worthless workplace accolades, but they’ve managed to jump in to this sonic ferocity with both appendages, claws extended. The songs were recorded in a 2-day-session at Sauna Studios with Neil R. Young filling in the roles of producer and recording engineer, with Jeppe Grønbæk Andersen on mixing duties and added instrumentation.

Julian Isaacs aka Auntie Pus, made a bet with his childhood friend Chris Millar (Rat Scabies of The Damned) that one of them would have a top ten record within 3 years. He of course lost that bet in less than a year as The Damned took the world by storm. Isaacs carried on with his own brand of punk and Syd Barrett inspired songs, playing with the best of the first wave of UK punk bands, and becoming frequent tour partners of bands like The Damned and The Ruts. In 1978 he finally recorded a single, featuring Rat Scabies on drums, which was eventually released with some help from the Ruts management, and did make not just into the weekly top 10 in Sounds, but "Single of the Week", and in a top 10 in Record Mirror when the Damned were pulling the reigns that week. Since then, the single has become a staple of conversations covering under the radar 70s UK DIY punk and "messthetics" type singles. This 7" is a deluxe edition with an unreleased track, artwork faithful to the original, with an accompanying insert that includes an in depth interview which should be fascinating to any fan of 70s UK punk, or fans of the Damned, photos, and more.

Jack talks about how the record came about in a recent interview with Memphis filmmaker, Mike McCarthy: Mike: What is the history of the songs and how do they break down on previous releases? Jack: In the past years around 2009 or 10 or something like that I wanted to make a mix tape as a cassette release and call it “After Party.” I wanted to record an 8-track tape of songs also as a sort of alternative. The whole concept was anything that was recorded in the apartment where I live now – and have been living for a long time – whether it was me playing on it or not.

“Oddities, Abnormalities And Curiosities” is an absolutely fresh and honest album is often overlooked. There's still the old playfulness and anarchic aggressiveness ("Brick", "Career Day"), paired with an ironic wink, and the rough edges that will probably protect them from commercial frenzy this time too. If Keith then goes back to work frustrated, it's not at least your fault, tight-fisted ignorants. Full of blazing guitars, thundering drums and ear-piercing screams, and while it isn't entirely slam dance worthy like their earlier albums, any real fan should appreciate this as a true punk rock piece of art. Circle Jerks fans, who remembered the band for their short street anthems and sarcastic political songs of the early 80's seem to forget that in 1995 when this record was recorded, Reagan wasn't in the white house. Sure, things weren't perfect politically, but the Circle Jerks weren't known for their political dissent. They sang about everything. They were the party band, and on Oddities it shows.

Originally released in 1989, it is the first time that the album has been reissued on vinyl and we do it in a wonderful remastered edition that also includes two bonus tracks - the two songs that came out on compilation cassette No. 92, also released in 1989 by El Lokal. -. In the words of Boliche himself, drummer and leader of the band, the recording of the album was a real nightmare due to the state of the recording studio, but none of that can be seen in the final result: it is his most complete work and the one that shows a more interesting and varied palette of what hardcore punk can be. The album is full of classics in the band's repertoire such as 'Hasta El Final', 'La Rabia', 'Ciudadano Ejemplar' or 'Sentirme Libre' and ranges from songs played at full speed, moments that flirt with metal and others. that seem to be announcing the punk rock style that would develop in the 90's. Lesser-known punk band Cyanide formed in the northern cathedral city of York in 1976, the four lads based at the Old Priory Youth Club. After cutting a couple of demos soon after their formation, in time the band’s reputation was such that they were playing the Roxy in London and during their rapid ascent, the quartet managed to score a contract with major label Pye for their self-titled debut album, recorded in December 1976 and produced by Ron O’Shea, who ironically got his start with orchestral easy listening. One of the best punk bands to come out of Northern Ireland are back with their first single in 35 years. And it's fair to say the latest incarnation of The Outcasts, who split in 1985 and reunited in 2011, have come up with a release which encapsulates all that's good about the band. It's available on US label Violated Records as a three-track 7in single on three different variants of Colored Vinyl, or as a five-track CD EP, and a fine investment it is, if you can track one down. The A-side contains one new song and one cover. The new one is the title track Stay Young, written by guitarist Martin Cowan and bassist Petesy Burns, and it's fair to say it's classic Outcasts, all about growing old with your loved one. The cover is The Pressure's On, originally by fellow Belfast band Rudi, who were Good Vibrations labelmates back in the day, and they more than do it justice. The B-side contains another original new song, Rebel Rock Radio, a slower number whose central guitar riff owes a lot to The Sweet's Blockbuster or David Bowie's Jean Genie. The CD EP contains two extra tracks, 78 and You're A Disease, the latter being a new recording of one of their very earliest songs. The good news for long-time fans - or anyone who somehow hasn't discovered The Outcasts.The Outcasts turn back the clock with Stay Young, their first single in 35 years

Mid-seventies Boston and a new local music scene was being forged in defiant opposition to tired arena acts and disco. Jeff (Mono Man) Connolly and JJ Rassler powered DMZ, while John Felice led the Real Kids on stripped down rockers inspired by 60s garage bands. On the darker side, Tracks’ Lorry Doll growled and spit out the lyrics to “Gang War Rumble,” “I Don’t Need You” and “Love Is (Bondage and Leather).” Co-founded with fellow art student/guitarist Jeff Rey, Lorry and Tracks joined a handful of other bands at the infamous Rat igniting Boston’s new music scene; just as Television, the Ramones, Talking Heads and others were doing the same in New York. Some called it punk or new wave, but it really was the birth of an alternative form of original expression that not only influenced and inspired subsequent bands coming out of these two cities, but also impacted all music that was to follow. In 1976 Tracks recorded a live set at the Club in Cambridge and released “Brakes on You” as a single on Blue Door Records. Picked up by Bomp for international distribution, it garnered Tracks worldwide notoriety. By the end of 1978, bolstered by airplay for the single, Tracks were playing most of their gigs in New York at legendary punk venues like CBGB’s and Max’s Kansas City. Sharing the bill with renown acts like the Police and the Jam and every other ‘hot new act’ that was coming through the East Coast, Doll and Rey knew they would have to make the move to NYC sooner or later. Empire was an offshoot of punk legends Generation X, very influential for the Washington hardcore and UKneo-psychedelic scenes.These two previously-unavailable-on-vinyl songs were recorded in 1981 for a second album that wasn't finally released.Empire was an offshoot of Generation X, and their only LP "Expensive Sound" remains an obscure (yet highly rewarding) listen.Originally released in 1981, the same year Gary Numan and Soft Cell were raking in big bucks with their noir-flecked brand of retrofuturism, "Expensive Sound" was out-of-step with the climate of commercial music. Their music was raw, bare, warm - distinct from the glacial, antiseptic pop that would dominate the decade. The album was neither totally forward-looking nor nostalgia embracing. Instead, "Expensive Sound" does what great albums tend to: preserves a specific moment in time.While "Expensive Sound" may be better known for the bands it inspired - the neo-psychedelia of The Stone Roses and the athletic fretwork of Fugazi - they deserve appreciation on its own merits: one of the finest guitar pop records of the era.These two previously-unavailable-on-vinyl songs were recorded in 1981 for a second album that wasn't finally released.
