20 years of HFMN CREW_Back in 2001, a group of kids from Manresa got together to organize concerts. A glorious 20 years full of concerts, tours, laughter, trips, madness, and above all, friendships for life. Although we're celebrating two decades, this compilation chiefly represents the last 5 years of the agency. During this period, apart from concert production, the agency has focused on management, working with groups from all over the European continent, initiating a new era for HFMN.The fundamental idea is to project and display the bands currently part of the HFMN management roster. These bands are from several countries, and perfectly embody HFMN's adventuring, curious character. They show a hungry appetite for growth in the scene and expansion towards all territories possible.All the bands the agency has, have different musical styles, but they all have a clear common denominator: their spirit, and punk rock character. These bands always have something to say and don't want to fall into typical clichés. It's going off and The Chisel are back to cause a bit of bovver. Following a trio of explosive singles, the band finally bring us their debut full-length album, Retaliation, on the London-based punk institution La Vida Es Un Mus. Having formed in early 2020 and featuring a crew of members with long-term associations to the London punk scene, The Chisel quickly secured a reputation as one of the most exciting bands from a pool of contemporaries that includes Chubby & The Gang, Stingray and Big Cheese. Their sound is rooted firmly in Punk but with influences that run across the board to create a distinctive blend of Oi!, anarcho, UK-82 and hardcore. Retaliation is an unmistakably British record that draws a line from 1982 up to the present day, pushing its way into your collection and torching your stereo. Opening with the agitated force of 'Unlawful Execution', the tone is firmly set by a song that addresses the brutality of the Met Police ("Tell me what's the difference between right or wrong / When a copper gets to blast a lad who did nothing wrong"). 'Come See Me' is a ferocious ode to camaraderie in the face of mouthy boneheads and bellends. 'Shit Life Syndrome' is a poisoned reference to the same cynical phrase used by physicians to describe the effects of people living under poverty and in the grips of substance abuse ("How can you expect people to act nicely, they've all been left on the edge of society"). It's one of many songs influenced by singer Cal's experiences of growing up in the working-class town of Blackpool. Cal states: "Blackpool as a town is often overlooked or even looked down upon, I wanted to write lyrics which gave the people of my town a voice". With tunes like these The Chisel show that they'll never pull any punches. However, beyond the fury and the swagger there's another side that plays to an additional strength; the ability to write a memorable hook. By way of some cosmic miracle, only one Total Hell pops up when the band moniker is searched on Discogs. And that would be the band responsible for the five-song blast of heavy metal sounds at hand. Now active for about two years plus change and exported from the very metal and punk fertile New Orleans, Total Hell is DD Deth (aka Drew Owen—Sick Thoughts wheelman, Trampoline Team etc) on drums / vocals, Henry Hell (John Henry of Static Static, Heavy Lids) on bass / vocals, and guitarists Jason “Panzer” Craft (Persuaders, Tirefire) and Michael Maniac (Michael He-man of Trampoline Team). If self-deprecation is beyond the listener’s processing skills, then please know that as self-described purveyors of the “New Wave of Shitty Heavy Metal”, Total Hell’s big-boy debut is not “shitty” in any manner whatsoever. These four recordings (“Desecrate”, “Clones From Hell”, “Violator”, and “Disfigured”) are melodic monstrosities that hit with a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling hugeness, while doing so in an economical manner. There will be no mistaking this for Broken Bones screeching out of an iPhone inside the vegan squat. On the flip, this is no Bob Rock joint. DD Deth elaborates: “Recorded on a Tascam 8-track cassette live at home (aka “The Parkway”) by Michael He-Man and the process was a nightmare. Original tape crapped out on us back in early 2020 so we had to redo the whole thing. Intros and interludes were done last minute by me with the cheapest midi keyboard on the net.” Well, color Goner Records impressed. One might get momentarily lost in the cavernous drums that introduce opener “Desecrate”, but soon the buzzsaw-riff-wall will crush one into a smudge on the bathroom floor. Without rocking some safety goggles and diving headfirst down a terminology rabbithole, this is punk jumping into the sack with metal and leaving black boots on the bedroom floor rather than white hightops. Xmas came early for fans of Anti-Cimex, Celtic Frost, pre-shit Discharge, Motörhead, Blitz, Midnight, Venom, Broken Bones and...one gets the picture.

Obscure but at the same time bright years, they inevitably generated an exuberant powerful musical movement that from Bologna then spread throughout Italy, and we were definitely part of it. ‘Quando I Baci Erano Fiocchi' is a collection of songs written and recorded in that period, in the cellar of Via s. Vitale 13 with a 4-track cassette deck. Never released before, they see the light today after being edited, remixed and digitally remastered. The missing link between post-punk and new wave, Windopen could seriously show the dark side of a ‘political’ nation.

Massachusetts hardcore band Defeater have announced their new self-titled album. Defeater will be released May 10 on Epitaph. This is Defeater's fifth full-length release and their first in 4 years. The first new single, "Mothers' Sons" features blistering guitars that take the song into something chaotic and beautiful. Defeater was produced with Will Yip (Quicksand, La Dispute, Blacklisted, Ms. Lauryn Hill) whose enthusiasm and talent pushed the songs to their fullest potential. Defeater showcases the band at their most devastating and sonically arresting to date. It is as pummeling as it is atmospheric. Yet it's been a long journey to where the band is now. Years of touring took their toll on the friends that make up the current lineup of Derek Archambault (vocals), Jake Woodruff (guitar), Adam Crowe (guitar), Mike Poulin (bass) and Joe Longobardi (drums). Health, substance abuse issues, and ejecting a longtime member had made a touring hiatus necessary. Im 7" Format veröffentlichten, war das für die Gruppe eine nette Abwechslung von den sich über Jahre (1975 -1979) hinziehenden, anspruchsvollen und experimentellen Aufnahmen an ihrem epochalen Eskimo Album. Außerdem brauchte das Label Ralph Records, eine Einnahmequelle um die lange Phase ohne ein "echtes neues" Album zu überbrücken. Zur allgemeinen Überraschung wurde die EP ein Hit und verkaufte mehr als 50.000 Einheiten in wenigen Monaten. Die Nachfrage liess auch in der Folge nicht nach und so drängte Ralph Records The Residents eine zweite EP - Buster & Glen - aufzunehmen, die dann schlussendlich zusammen mit Duck Stab! als LP-Release zu einem Klassiker und großem Verkaufserfolg wurde. Einige Jahre später, zwischen 1981 und 1988 übernahm Night Flight, eine damals populäre Sendung im US-Kabelfernsehen, Video-Clips von The Residents in ihr reguläres Programm auf - insbesondere "Hello Skinny", das legendäre Video zum Duck Stab! / Buster & Glen Album. Für viele Fans der Band war Night Flight der erste Berührungspunkt mit The Residents. Im Jahr 2016 feierte der Sender unter dem Namen Night Flight plus fröhliche Wiederauferstehung als Internet Streaming-Service und bat The Residents anlässlich des 40ten Jubiläums des Programms um einen Video-Beitrag. Da die Gruppe ohnehin an einer Live-Version von Duck Stab! als Teil ihrer 50ten Jubiläums-Tour im Jahr 2022 arbeitete, bot sich Duck Stab! Alive! als eine naheliegende Wahl an, um daraus eine Show für Night Flight plus zu produzieren. Und so begaben sich The Residents unter der Leitung von Regisseur John Sanborn und Kameramann Frazer Bradshaw vom 19. bis 21. Mai 2021 in die 25th Street Studios in Oakland, Kalifornien um die neu ausgearbeitete Performance Duck Stab! Alive! Live im Studio aufzunehmen. Die spektakulären Ergebnisse dokumentiert auf zwei 45 RPM 10" Vinylplatten sowie einer Video DVD bilden den Inhalt dieser aufwändigen und limitierten Sammler-Box. Weltweit auf 3.000 Stück limitiert!

"The Land of Fire and Ice" has long been known for immense natural beauty, ancient folklore, hakarl, aluminum and hairy little horses. What you may not know is that punks were also there from the very start of the show. One of the most important bands to emerge from the thriving Reykjavík scene was Vonbrigði. Though they draw influence from UK and European post-punk and American hardcore, have no doubts Vonbrigði were 100% their own unique thing. They didn't receive a ton of international attention at the time and sort of faded into history but not without releasing a handful of songs, including a blistering hardcore track on the Rokk Í Reykjavík soundtrack compilation and an incredible EP on the fledgling Gramm label owned by Ásmundur Jónsson and Einar Örn (of Purrkur Pillnikk, Kukl and, more notably, Sugarcubes fame). All of the aforementioned songs are included here along with the rest of the previously (and unbelievably, I mean how is material this amazing not released immediately after recording it? Crazy!) unreleased '82/'83 sessions. 71 minutes of sweat and grit. Who needs volcanoes when you have Vonbrigði's fire? All tracks recorded between July 1982 and January 1983 at Studio Hanagal by Kjartan Kjartansson. Mixed and mastered in 2020 at Klakhöllin by Hallur Ingólfsson. Art by Þórir Georg.

Originally known as the singer, songwriter, and founder of both Lagwagon and BAD Astronaut, Joey Cape has established himself as a recognized solo artist over the past 15 years. His solo ventures have allowed him to stretch the bounds of his musical stylings, highlighting more diverse instrumentation, subdued pace, and experimental elements. The one constant, of course, is his unique ability to craft unforgettable songs. As with pretty much everyone on the planet, 2020 was a challenging year for Joey. At the onset he was going through difficult transitions on multiple fronts. Then the pandemic hits, and Joey finds himself dealing with things he had never experienced before all at once. The result is A Good Year to Forget, a record that encapsulates all the trials and tribulations of the 12 months that inspired it. Written entirely in isolation in a makeshift home recording studio at his mother’s house, Joey Cape was able to create a beautiful, warm record that captures the pure essence of its songs. Hushed and haunted, there’s an almost Nick Drakeian poignancy to these 12 songs, especially on the wistful “The Poetry in Our Mistakes” and the forlorn-yet-somehow-uplifting “Saturday Night Fever.” “Come Home,” a song inspired directly by words his mother had spoken to him on the phone, is a beautifully melancholy, slightly folky tune full of hurt and longing that also manages to be reassuring at the same time. Elsewhere, “Under the Doormat” is a harrowingly beautiful ode to a lost love of the past. “Check Your Ego at the Door” is a ballroom lament steeped in timelessness, while “Fictional” is a scornful take on the false images and lives that proliferate on social media. Despite Joey Cape’s isolation while writing A Good Year to Forget, his fans will hear much more than just a voice, guitar, and bass on this record. Indeed, he ended up playing a plethora of instruments when recording the album, including electric and lap steel guitars, piano, mandolin, and drums. Additional final flourishes were added at fellow Bad Astronaut band member Thom Flowers' studio and Sean MCCUE's Coyote Road Studios. A Good Year to Forget finds the positive in the negatives to become a record of pure triumphant beauty.

Though the hallowed halls of Berlin’s nightlife excess now sit cold, the sounds that once haunted their depths beat ever onward, and colder still. Birthed in these hushed plaguelands, XTR HUMAN’s new full-length G.O.L.D evokes the frozen melancholy of a post-pandemic city, driven ever onward by the impetus of night’s primary currencies: sweat, release and change. The latest full-length from Johannes Stabel, G.O.L.D finds the German producer evolving as much as the rest of the world has had to. Taking his political and socially conscious lyrics into his native tongue brings a deeper and more powerful thrust to their weight—particularly at a time when Germany is weighing its own social consciousness after years of being seen as a leading world figure. Across G.O.L.D’s ten tracks, Stable brings our zeitgeist into a new realm, where the anger and frustration at our current existence is refined into the energy that fuels our engines, that primal desire always amplified during times of social upheaval—the desire to move your body. Many of the songs delve into Stabel’s own experiences as a German, from explorations of the Deutsch mentality of persistent fear to tackling the fake news, jingoism, racists and coronavirus deniers on hypnotic bangers ‘Dark Germany’ and ‘Dieser Klang’; issues just as prevalent in Germany as in the USA and UK. Yet each song carries just as much weight on to the dance floor, melding driving EBM bass with soaring synthlines and coldwave atmospheres that dispel the tenseness that such heavy topics imbue, in favor of intensity and beauty. Influenced by the pop hooks of Austrian New Wave legend Falco, G.O.L.D never neglects its danceability and HD club accessibility, no matter how heady the lyricism. ‘Starker Junge’, a dissection of toxic masculinity, drops down onto the listener with sparkling synths and razor-sharp guitar, while capitalist critique ‘Fleisch’ is a pogo synthpop anthem that could send any floor into a twirling frenzy. Wrapped in darkened beats and political ideals, G.O.L.D can’t hide the light that emanates from within its glistening, imminently catchy hooks and groove-laden rhythms.
