It's going off and The Chisel are back to cause a bit of bovver. Following a trio of explosive singles, the band finally bring us their debut full-length album, Retaliation, on the London-based punk institution La Vida Es Un Mus. Having formed in early 2020 and featuring a crew of members with long-term associations to the London punk scene, The Chisel quickly secured a reputation as one of the most exciting bands from a pool of contemporaries that includes Chubby & The Gang, Stingray and Big Cheese. Their sound is rooted firmly in Punk but with influences that run across the board to create a distinctive blend of Oi!, anarcho, UK-82 and hardcore. Retaliation is an unmistakably British record that draws a line from 1982 up to the present day, pushing its way into your collection and torching your stereo. Opening with the agitated force of 'Unlawful Execution', the tone is firmly set by a song that addresses the brutality of the Met Police ("Tell me what's the difference between right or wrong / When a copper gets to blast a lad who did nothing wrong"). 'Come See Me' is a ferocious ode to camaraderie in the face of mouthy boneheads and bellends. 'Shit Life Syndrome' is a poisoned reference to the same cynical phrase used by physicians to describe the effects of people living under poverty and in the grips of substance abuse ("How can you expect people to act nicely, they've all been left on the edge of society"). It's one of many songs influenced by singer Cal's experiences of growing up in the working-class town of Blackpool. Cal states: "Blackpool as a town is often overlooked or even looked down upon, I wanted to write lyrics which gave the people of my town a voice". With tunes like these The Chisel show that they'll never pull any punches. However, beyond the fury and the swagger there's another side that plays to an additional strength; the ability to write a memorable hook. Garrison was born in Boston during the heyday of the prolific, late ‘90s, post-hardcore scene. Shortly after forming, the band found themselves signed to Revelation Records where they released their first EP, The Bend Before The Break. The EP was well received among fans and critics and made a place for itself as a notable release for the post-hardcore movement. The Bend Before The Break opens with “Serious Heavy Drama,” which immediately hooks you with its melody, and slowly builds to a brooding and emotional breakdown where singer Joseph Grillo screams his words in a final emotional crescendo. The EP rises with pop melodies such as “Harlow” (a song that remained a fan favorite even after three more releases) and ends with the somber and dark “Untitled,” embracing more of a Midwest-emo theme, and bringing to mind a band like Mineral. Though Garrison went on to release numerous albums on Revelation Records, Iodine Recordings, and Simba Recordings,The Bend Before The Break remained their most popular release. The record harnessed a raw and genuine youthful energy. Nearly 23 years later, Iodine Recordings presents The Bend Before The Break for the first time as a full-length LP, including “You’re Devastated, I’m Sure” and “Untitled,” previously unavailable on vinyl. The new B-side includes rare and previously unreleased material that spans the band’s history from 1998 to 2004, including their first 7” record 24 and their split EP with UK’s Hundred Reasons, all fully remastered and featuring all new artwork by Dan McCarthy. The Bend Before The Break remains a relevant and vital volume in the post-hardcore and emo canon.

The story of Tørsö starts on the Punch tour with Italy’s Holy in 2013. Punch guitarist Keith and Holy drummer Giacomo put together a transcontinental powerhouse adding bassist Jasmine of NEO Cons and Everybody ROW (among many others) and vocalist Ethan of Ritual Control. After three releases that were both self-released and on renowned punk labels like Sorry State Records, Agipunk and Adagio830, Giacomo moved to the United States and Tørsö hit some crucial hardcore festivals like Sound And Fury in Los Angeles, Damaged City Fest in D.C. and Not Dead Yet in Toronto as well as tours of the coasts with American Nightmare and Fireburn. Tørsö is armed with a powerful punk and hardcore sound with influences as geographically diverse as its members. One can hear the D-beating drums of Discharge, the all-out speed attack of Swedish crust legends Totalitär, and the stomping breaks of late-’80s N.Y.H.C. Lyrically, Tørsö does not rely on any of the hardcore clichés or spew overly simplistic lyrics that carry no real meaning. Instead, the band tackles issues of veganism, politics, mental health, displacement, and feminism at a time when the world needs it the most.

Jesuit was a nefarious, mid-’90s, heavy band from Virginia Beach that released a small batch of demos, 7”s, and comp tracks while absolutely terrorizing and uprooting DIY hardcore shows around the country at the time. Upon dissolution, members went on to THE Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, OLD MAN Gloom, Doomriders, Cave IN, and Bleach Everything. This release is a reissue of the band’s entire discography, originally issued by Magic Bullet Records in 2011. It compiles the band’s 7” on Hydra Head, their cover of Black SABBATH’s “Hole In The Sky” from Hydra Head’s In These Black Days compilation series, the self-titled 7” on Reservoir Records, and the original self-released demo tape. All tracks were restored, remixed, and remastered by Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studio, where everything but the demo was originally recorded. The 2021 edition of the record features a new cover colorway, a translucent, hot pink LP, a clear 7” flexi with silver foil, and a giant fold-out poster that contains all lyrics, liner notes, and over 100 photos. Proceeds from this release will help fund public concrete skatepark additions and repairs.

Recordings were taped on September 16th in 1973 at the infamous Whiskey a Go-Go in Los Angeles and captures the Stooges at a pivotal point, just as they were about to break up. Iggy & the Stooges careen out of control as the singer taunts the audience and the band tries to keep it together. A handful of rarities, such as "Head On," are featured in addition to a selection of material drawn mainly from Raw Power, but the actual songs aren't that important -- it's how the band sounds, and they do sound raw, abrasive, and frightening. Although we're celebrating two decades, this compilation chiefly represents the last 5 years of the agency. During this period, apart from concert production, the agency has focused on management, working with groups from all over the European continent, initiating a new era for HFMN.The fundamental idea is to project and display the bands currently part of the HFMN management roster. These bands are from several countries, and perfectly embody HFMN's adventuring, curious character. They show a hungry appetite for growth in the scene and expansion towards all territories possible.All the bands the agency has, have different musical styles, but they all have a clear common denominator: their spirit, and punk rock character. These bands always have something to say and don't want to fall into typical clichés. They have attitude and clear social commitment and want to play, travel, and show their music around the globe, while at the same time making friends and having a great time (which by the way is pretty much what we've come to do, at least when we talk about HFMN).In this 20 years compilation, there are various bands from different musical styles that all share their passion for punk rock: ANAL HARD and PROUDZ both perfectly represent the most classic hardcore. Als The Residents im Jahr 1978 die 33 RPM EP Duck Stab! Im 7" Format veröffentlichten, war das für die Gruppe eine nette Abwechslung von den sich über Jahre (1975 -1979) hinziehenden, anspruchsvollen und experimentellen Aufnahmen an ihrem epochalen Eskimo Album. Außerdem brauchte das Label Ralph Records, eine Einnahmequelle um die lange Phase ohne ein "echtes neues" Album zu überbrücken. Zur allgemeinen Überraschung wurde die EP ein Hit und verkaufte mehr als 50.000 Einheiten in wenigen Monaten. Die Nachfrage liess auch in der Folge nicht nach und so drängte Ralph Records The Residents eine zweite EP - Buster & Glen - aufzunehmen, die dann schlussendlich zusammen mit Duck Stab! als LP-Release zu einem Klassiker und großem Verkaufserfolg wurde. Einige Jahre später, zwischen 1981 und 1988 übernahm Night Flight, eine damals populäre Sendung im US-Kabelfernsehen, Video-Clips von The Residents in ihr reguläres Programm auf - insbesondere "Hello Skinny", das legendäre Video zum Duck Stab! / Buster & Glen Album. Für viele Fans der Band war Night Flight der erste Berührungspunkt mit The Residents. Im Jahr 2016 feierte der Sender unter dem Namen Night Flight plus fröhliche Wiederauferstehung als Internet Streaming-Service und bat The Residents anlässlich des 40ten Jubiläums des Programms um einen Video-Beitrag. Da die Gruppe ohnehin an einer Live-Version von Duck Stab! als Teil ihrer 50ten Jubiläums-Tour im Jahr 2022 arbeitete, bot sich Duck Stab! Alive! als eine naheliegende Wahl an, um daraus eine Show für Night Flight plus zu produzieren. Und so begaben sich The Residents unter der Leitung von Regisseur John Sanborn und Kameramann Frazer Bradshaw vom 19. bis 21. Mai 2021 in die 25th Street Studios in Oakland, Kalifornien um die neu ausgearbeitete Performance Duck Stab! Alive! Live im Studio aufzunehmen. By way of some cosmic miracle, only one Total Hell pops up when the band moniker is searched on Discogs. And that would be the band responsible for the five-song blast of heavy metal sounds at hand. Now active for about two years plus change and exported from the very metal and punk fertile New Orleans, Total Hell is DD Deth (aka Drew Owen—Sick Thoughts wheelman, Trampoline Team etc) on drums / vocals, Henry Hell (John Henry of Static Static, Heavy Lids) on bass / vocals, and guitarists Jason “Panzer” Craft (Persuaders, Tirefire) and Michael Maniac (Michael He-man of Trampoline Team). If self-deprecation is beyond the listener’s processing skills, then please know that as self-described purveyors of the “New Wave of Shitty Heavy Metal”, Total Hell’s big-boy debut is not “shitty” in any manner whatsoever. These four recordings (“Desecrate”, “Clones From Hell”, “Violator”, and “Disfigured”) are melodic monstrosities that hit with a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling hugeness, while doing so in an economical manner. There will be no mistaking this for Broken Bones screeching out of an iPhone inside the vegan squat. On the flip, this is no Bob Rock joint. DD Deth elaborates: “Recorded on a Tascam 8-track cassette live at home (aka “The Parkway”) by Michael He-Man and the process was a nightmare. Original tape crapped out on us back in early 2020 so we had to redo the whole thing. Intros and interludes were done last minute by me with the cheapest midi keyboard on the net.” Well, color Goner Records impressed. One might get momentarily lost in the cavernous drums that introduce opener “Desecrate”, but soon the buzzsaw-riff-wall will crush one into a smudge on the bathroom floor. Without rocking some safety goggles and diving headfirst down a terminology rabbithole, this is punk jumping into the sack with metal and leaving black boots on the bedroom floor rather than white hightops. Xmas came early for fans of Anti-Cimex, Celtic Frost, pre-shit Discharge, Motörhead, Blitz, Midnight, Venom, Broken Bones and...one gets the picture.

The anarchic Punk collective Virus is and was one of the most important and radical collectives ever formed in Italy, in an anarchic place among the most well-known worldwide. This book is a collection of various materials: posters, fanzines, and fliers with the signature of the Virus collective, which the authors of this volume managed to retrieve. All the materials present were made public and distributed freely during the years of its impetuous presence: from 1982, the year of its creation, to its final closure in 1989. Reproduced in chronological order, they retrace with no need for additional captions a chronicle of the city of Milan and the Italian province in the 80s. Graphic simplicity and aesthetic roughness are an integral part of the content narrated in the lyrics. The name Virus is remembered, not only as synonymous with Punk, but above all as a real place for experimenting with alternatives to the system.

Bologna. At the turn of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The events of March '77 and the murder of the student Francesco Lorusso. The massacre at the Radio Alice station closed by the police after a raid (which, however, was fully broadcasted live). But also 'Bologna Rock' and the Clash historical show in Piazza Maggiore. Cult label and association Harpo's Bazaar and Italian Records. Local clubs such as The Punkreas and the Small. The long running record shop Disco D'oro and the self-made fanzines ... Obscure but at the same time bright years, they inevitably generated an exuberant powerful musical movement that from Bologna then spread throughout Italy, and we were definitely part of it. ‘Quando I Baci Erano Fiocchi' is a collection of songs written and recorded in that period, in the cellar of Via s. Vitale 13 with a 4-track cassette deck. Never released before, they see the light today after being edited, remixed and digitally remastered. The missing link between post-punk and new wave, Windopen could seriously show the dark side of a ‘political’ nation.
