Black Mercy “The Curse” (Side A) Description: Black Mercy, an Austin-based band formed in 2019, brings a fierce blend of fast-paced, raw hardcore and punk energy on their new LP “The Curse”, recorded at Adrian Quesada’s studio Electric Deluxe. Embodying the spirit of Minor Threat or Circle Jerks, with the chaotic sensibilities of seeing Clikatat Ikatowi or Unwound blowing out an amplifier. More a noisy band with a hardcore framework, their music exemplifies their aggressive sound that is just a bit off-center. Every song has twists and turns on this record, with one stand out track, “Lost” where they bring the tempo down to where Sleep lives. With vocalist and scene-veteran Noble Brown leading the charge, Black Mercy infuses their music with elements of '90s DIY punk and '80s hardcore, creating a high-energy experience that is both nostalgic and refreshingly intense. Black Mercy’s sound is characterized by gruff, fast, and intense punk rock with a nod to '90s emotive DIY and '80s Dischord records. The band has been praised by Maximum Rocknroll and The Austin Chronicle for their raw intensity and innovative music videos featuring fingerboarding. Band OF Bastards “American Carnage” (Side B) Description: Band of Bastards, formed in 2018, is a powerhouse hardcore punk band from Austin, Texas, known for their short, explosive tracks and high-octane performances. They recorded their new record “American Carnage” with drummer Sam Rich at the helm, and the result is nothing short of brilliant. Long traded and coveted, discussed and debated, Propeller Product’s 1981 cassette compilation finally receives a physical release reflecting its original intention and aim. And this is its Boston origin story: a small collective with a DIY artistic bent, Propeller launched in 1981. Founded as a collaborative taking inspiration from Factory Records and the “pay no more” ethos of Dischord Records and Crass, Propeller offers a unique window into Boston and the American post-punk underground. Led by Justin Burrill, Michael Cudahy, and Steve Gregoropoulos, alongside a constellation of curious cohorts, Propeller hoped to move beyond Boston’s bluesy bar rock, to say nothing of its nascent hardcore scenes. The Allston-based Propeller bands explored a more angular and inventive musical space. “Propeller wanted a unified aesthetic,” Cudahy recalls. “I remember having a meeting where we spent over an hour deliberating what typeface to use. I wanted to release a compilation of bands I thought weren’t being done justice.” Existing concurrently with the brawny hardcore acts emerging from the Bay State, Propeller’s influences, execution, and intent offered a 180-degree turn from the alpha male Boston Crew. By contrast, “Punk rock was a refuge,” Cudahy says about his fellow Propeller artists, but just “two years after punk happened and hardcore came along in Boston, it was like, ‘Hey you were the guys who beat me up for being punk and now you’re in a band!’ Propeller was the weird offshoot species.” Propeller’s practice space occupied the very same building as Gallery East, where many Boston hardcore bands played. This was also the location where most of the Prop 4-1 tape was recorded. Boston’s offshoot species had found its voice. Upon release Propeller’s cassette-only compilation hit a monumental snag. Because of a manufacturing error almost all of the Propeller Product cassettes were defective, screeching in rotation and making the music largely inaudible. Even the deluxe edition that came with a 24-page cut-and-paste collage booklet housed in an oversized polybag didn’t sound right. Propeller had the music, the artwork, and the vision, but manufacturing, materials, and logistics all failed Allston, until now. Carefully restored and remastered by Massachusetts's Bob Weston (Chicago Mastering Service), Lawrence Wilmington’s debut release presents the original 18 songs on 180-Gram double LP for the first time and features reworked artwork taken from the deluxe booklet. 450 copies, full-color gatefold includes download.

Indignation Meeting are punky rail fans from Leeds. 15-year-old Peter is the driver - he's the drummer and lead singer, writes most of the songs, and also plays bass and trumpet on the album. Initially coming from the DIY hardcore scene, Coilguns have since then crafted their very own blend of punk and ecstatic noise-rock. The history of the band is deeply bound to the development of guitarist Jona Nido’s own label – Humus Records – that now gathers up to 150 releases from Swiss artists of all sonic horizons.

Though their last two albums were 100% self-produced, engineered and mixed by the band members, Coilguns drove in the summer of 2022 to end-of-the-world’s Oceansound Recordings in Norway with producer Scott Evans to track their 4th studio album which was then mixed by grammy nominated producer Tom Dalgety.

No, you really can't say that GIMP FIST have had a 'Losing Streak' since they were founded in 2005, at least as far as their music and the band's success are concerned. However, the world out there doesn't seem to have a particularly bright future these days of war, hatred, racism, social misery or the profit-hungry exploitation of our living space. The 15 new songs on their 11th album 'Losing Streak' are dedicated to this sad development in all its facets from the perspective of the English working class. "Who's gonna help to get this country right on track?" (Born and raised) 'Losing Streak' is bursting with passion, emotion and pure energy and is a bit faster than their last two records. No breathing space, no beating around the bush, but rather a direct line to the wound of deceitful politics and its divided society: "Whatever happened to our community in today's society?" The 4 songs that make up Monster Squad’s “All Out Of Control” were written during extensive touring and shortly after the band released their influential 2004 LP “Strength Through Pain.” Monster Squad went to legendary Bart Thurber (Spazz, Capitalist Casualties, Neurosis) at House of Faith in Oakland to record the EP. These songs represented a slight departure from the speed that fans got to know on “Strength Through Pain.” The title track “All Out of Control” was a different side for Monster Squad, showcasing more anthemic (and much slower) songs than the breakneck, frenetic pace of their previous works. The band utilized ‘call and response’ vocal patterns which quickly became and remains one of the band’s most popular songs. The band continued to explore new ideas, such as incorporating a cowbell on “Church and State,” which talks about the overwhelming presence and oppression that organized religion has in politics. “Gotta Get Out” focuses on the ruts people find themselves in - nowhere to go to escape daily life with the inability to control anxious and hopeless feelings “All Out Of Control” has been out of print since 2006 and fans have been clamoring for a reissue for many years. This new 12” 45rpm version, remastered by Jack Shirley (Sweat, Deafheaven, Gouge Away) at The Atomic Garden, has a completely new layout. Monster Squad used images from the photo session of the original release and scans of the original lyric sheets written in 2005. The band also stumbled upon a collage from 1982 that the legendary collage maestro Winston Smith (Dead Kennedys, etc) made, titled “Security Control” which was a perfect fit, and is included in this new artwork. The record also includes a double-sided 11x17 poster of the MS/APG red skull image + a collage designed by the band’s long-time friend Amanda Chavez.
