The circumstances were ordinary: the results, extraordinary. In early 1982 I was having my usual 1 pm breakfast with disk jockey Rodney Bingenheimer at a very ordinary Denny's coffee shop when the visiting German director Uli Edel dropped by with Christiane Felscherinow in L.A. to promote the film Christiane F. (Wir Kinder von Bahnhof Zoo). Edel had intended to tour with the young actress Nadja Brunckhorst but her father had vetoed the trip, so the real Christiane F. went, swearing to keep clean. We found out much later, she didn't. Over pancakes, Rodney mischievously suggested to the still teenaged Christiane that she should make a record. And Posh Boy across the table could make it happen! I made one phone call to then New York based David Javelosa of Posh Boy act Los Microwaves who leapt at the opportunity at producing a high profile release that could be as dada as he liked on a budget of USD l000. One of pop punk most underrated bands, Huntington Beach the Crowd were blasting out saccharine pieces of four-chord glory back when Nofx and the Vandals were learning how to tune. Since the late 70s, they have helped to construct the SoCal scene, never showing signs of slowing down despite watching their contemporaries endure far more lucrative careers. Initially on Posh Boy records, then on Flipside records, this is their third album on Flipside recently reissued on Gummopunx records. With even a cursory listen to this re-release of Letter Bomb, we find the band at their strongest. Simplistic and straightforward, the songs here are still strongly influenced by the brashness and street sensibility of the late 70s British punk rock that initially influenced them.

Dee Dee Ramone I.C.L.C. (Inter-Celestial Light Commune) was formed by Dee Dee and John Carco in 1994 in New York City. After several live shows and drummers as a the three piece line up the two members decided to move to Amsterdam to record for Rough Trade Records. The four-song EP Chinese Bitch and the album I Hate Freaks Like You were both released in 1994. The band toured 22 countries in a 10-month period and they never toured in the U.S. This set in Scotland catch the big energy, some of The Ramones tracks are slower or even longer than the original versions and Dee Dee plays a wonderful version of Poison Heart all alone.

Das konnte die Band Feeling B nicht beindrucken – sie komponierten, produzieren, tourten unentwegt weiter und schon 1991 veröffentlichten sie ihr 2. Album "Wir kriegen euch alle" mit dem Klassiker von Yiri Korn "Ich such die Yvetta", den sie mit den ihnen eigenen Punk-Charm in die Zeile umtexteten "Ich such die D.D.R. und keiner weiß wo sie ist…".

Adventurous southern California punk trio Agent Orange was the first band to mix surf rock with punk. The group was formed in 1979 in Placentia, a small town close to Fullerton and Anaheim, by frontman Mike Palm on guitar and lead vocals, Steve Soto on bass and Scott Miller on drums. That early line up recorded the classic version of "Bloodstains" in 1979 as a demo produced by Daniel R. van Patten (of the group Berlin). A year later it was included on the seminal Rodney On The Roq compilation album released by Posh Boy Records. Meanwhile James Levesque had replaced Steve Soto (Adolescents) and the new line up released their own self produced and self released 7" ep in 1980. A year later, the group signed with Robbie Fields' Posh Boy Records for their debut LP Living In Darkness, co-produced by Fields and former Simpletones guitarist Jay Lansford. The album was recorded at Brian Elliott’s store front studio in North Hollywood (a few years before Elliott struck gold writing Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach”).

Pirates Press Records is thrilled to welcome Santa Cruz, CA’s Northern Soul outfit THE Inciters to the Pirates Family! This ten-piece combo of veteran players has been filling dance floors globally since the mid ’90s, electrifying audiences across the spectrum of skins, rudies, punks, mods, and rockers alike. No strangers to playing side by side with ska, punk, and Oi! bands, they are a natural fit to help expand Pirates Press Records’ roster of soul artists. “We wanted to keep it feeling live, not a ‘live album,’ but our energy. We recorded as much as possible all together. We had the rhythm section in the main room, the horns in a booth (a big booth), but [there was] also a large window so the horns could see the rhythm section. All the horns recorded at the same time so we could capture the feel. The singers were in another booth.” says trumpeter Rick Kendrick. “There was the usual overdubbing and whatnot, but for the most part this captures our energy...I guess you could say our ‘soul!’” These recordings are by far the band’s best work - capturing the energy and spontaneity of their live show—11 tracks of upbeat, hard-partyin’ soul stompers! London group The Tubs return to Trouble In Mind with their hotly anticipated full-length album entitled "Dead Meat". The band were formed in 2018 from the ashes of beloved UK post-punk band Joanna Gruesome by former members Owen 'O' Williams and George 'GN' Nicholls. By incorporating elements of post-punk, traditional British folk, and guitar jangle seasoned by nonchalant Cleaners From Venus-influenced pop hooks and contemporary antipodean indie bands (Twerps/Goon Sax, et al)."Dead Meat" is resplendent in hi-fidelity strum & thrum, incorporating fleeting elements of post-punk and indie jangle, but the group's penchant for trad British folk & Canterbury folk-rock takes a noticeable, caffeinated step forward. Echoes of Fairport Convention's decidedly English chime cross swords with singer Owen Williams' lyrics directing Bryan Ferry's "thinking man's libertine" persona into a more dolorous outlook. Many songs (like "Round The Bend" and "Duped") soar with an urgent strum under Williams' acerbic lyrics, recalling a younger fiery Richard Thompson. They languish in an aching, bitter resignation (of both the situations described & the protagonist's place in it), particularly near the album's second half. Others like the previously released "I Don't Know How It Works", "Two Person Love" and "Illusion" (re-presented here as "Illusion Pt. II" and all rerecorded from their original 7-inch versions) up the urgency, implying that the journey for the person described in each tune is not over & may be even more desperate than before. The band has never been tighter & more dynamic, often imperceptibly ratcheting up the tension, an extra guitar strum overdubbed, a barely audible organ/synth cranking under a chorus or bridge, or unexpected backups from current Ex-Vöid (and ex-Joanna Gruesome) vocalist Lan McArdle. Bristol (uk) based Idles have today announced their forthcoming fifth album 'tangk'. 'tangk', the 11-track follow-up to their Grammy-nominated album Crawler, was co-produced by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, The Smile, Beck), Mark Bowen and Kenny Beats (Denzel Curry, Vince Staples, Benee) and the band themselves. 'tangk' - pronounced "tank", with a hint of "g" and an onomatopoeic allusion to the whipping guitar sound the band envisioned as a kind of seal for the life in love - is the band's most ambitious and impressive album to date.

Idles are one of the strongest rock bands of the last decade. Godrich, Beats and Bowen have also been a formidable tandem for Idles, pushing them into new territory and then tightening the reins when needed. 'tangk' is at once expansive and focused, inventive and immediate. Of the album, singer Joe Talbot says: "tangk. I needed love. So I made it. I gave love to the world and it feels like magic. Where, for example, the debut "Divide & Conquer" had a noisy soundscape and 2021's "Molotov Rocktail" had a more playful and bigger rock sound, "All Out Of Dreams" has a slightly more raw metallic sound. This can clearly be seen in the conscious choice to go for a snare drum sound that brings to mind 90s metal, rock and punk ala Clutch, Helmet, Therapy? or The Vandals' "Live Fast Diarrhea”, too name a few. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen (Meshuggah, BabyMetal, Madball, Sick Of It All, The Haunted) in Antfarm Studio in Denmark in June 2022. The band also has guest artists for the first time, in the form of Lou Koller from the Nyhc legends Sick Of It All and Aaron Beam from the stoner rockers Red Fang.
