At last, one of the all-time bat legends, Nomeansno has returned to Alternative Tentacles Records. The entire catalog no less, starting with their most beloved album, Wrong. Using the original all-analog master, from the original mother, as engineered by George Horn, John Wright, and Jello Biafra.

Nomeansno formed in a vacuum, in Victoria, British Columbia in 1979 and honing their sounds for years before relocating to Vancouver and releasing eleven albums over an almost forty year career, including a collaborative album with Jello Biafra, and numerous EPs and singles. Originally formed as a two-piece by brothers John and Rob Wright, and later joined by monster guitarist, Andy Kerr. Mixing hardcore punk, dark lyrics, and sophisticated arrangements boarding on prog, Nomeansno was massively influential and widely regarded as the first band to be referred to as “math rock”.

Originally released on Alternative Tentacles in 1989, Wrong stands on its own and is still considered to be a much-loved classic. Allmusic called the album a masterpiece and a definitive jazz core album. In 2021, the album was voted by the public’s to win the Canadian Polaris Heritage Prize to honor classic Canadian albums released before the creation of the award.

In 2015, drummer John Wright described the album as their “most popular album by a country mile” and to the St. Louis Music Press of Wrong’s success to the rise of alternative music and the success of Nirvana:

“That’s where all the buzz about us came from. We were touring throughout the States in the mid-80s, and we’d get a little bit of an audience here and there, but after a couple of years in Europe, we started doing some big shows there, and all of a sudden, people in the States were coming out to our shows. And we went from getting paid $200 to getting paid $1000. It was just like that. You had to have the buzz, and then it all just kind of blew up.”

Dicks’ debut LP has been acknowledged as a foundational statement in Punk ever since its initial 1983 release. Goo Goo Dolls (also known as First Release) is their first studio album, released in 1987. Suicidal Tendencies's debut has been regarded by critics as one of the most influential punk rock albums of all time and has inspired an untold number of influential musicians. "Suicidal Tendencies" has also been cited as an influence or favorite album by each of the "big four" of thrash metal (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax) as well as California punk bands such as The Offspring and Nofx. "Suicidal Tendencies" became the bestselling American punk album of all time and launched the band into their long-lasting career. Suicidal Tendencies became the chameleons of aggressive rock 'n' roll. Starting with their debut album on Frontier Records in 1983, the band progressed from the punk rock genre into heavy metal/thrash. Throughout this transformation, singer, founder, and leader Mike Muir broadcast his own message with wit and wisdom to anyone that would listen. After the video for 'Institutionalized' broke through the MTV airwaves as the first hardcore video for the channel, the song gained further notoriety on the soundtrack for the cult film "Repo Man" in 1984. Rock for Light is the second full-length album by Bad Brains, released in 1983. It was produced by Ric Ocasek of The Cars. Faith and Minor Threat broke up within months of each other in 1983. During 1983 and ‘84 there was a general malaise in the DC hardcore scene which saw a lot of the founding bands and scene makers move to the sidelines as shows became increasingly violent and the attitude became increasingly mainstream. In the summer of '85 there was renewed spirit, often referred to as "Revolution Summer," (ushered in by the Rites of Spring and members of a band that formed later called Fire Party). This "Revolution Summer" included a handful of bands who preferred smaller more intimate venues and focused on a more personal and introspective interpretation of punk rock. Embrace was part of this renewal. They were formed by ex-Minor Threat member IAN Mackaye and three of the former members of Faith. They played shows from the summer of 1985 until the Spring of 1986.

Among the impressive discography by Portland, OR Hardcore Punk forerunners Poison Idea, their 1986 debut LP Kings Of Punk is considered one of the most important entries. Originally released on the Pusmort label owned and operated by legendary visual artist Brian “Pushead” Schroeder (Misfits, Metallica), Kings Of Punk introduced Poison Idea to a wide audience than their previously the self-released and distributed releases on Fatal Erection, the record label co-run by their guitarist Tom “Pig Champion” Roberts. Taking full advantage of the situation, Poison Idea made sure their first full-length release would make an impact on the American Hardcore Punk scene. From the grisly, full-color cover image of the band’s name carved into the chest of vocalist Jerry A. Lang to the blistering music contained within, Kings Of Punk was convincing enough to earn Poison Idea the attention that helped spread their legend and kicked off the band's most prolific period: the late 80s - early 90s. Out-of-print since TKO’s ephemera-packed “Portland Edition” version from the summer of 2022, Kings Of Punk now returns as the third installment in TKO’s Poison Idea Remasters series. This new edition finds all eleven tracks shined up while still retaining the feral bite of the original, proving almost forty years since its release, Kings Of Punk will forever be evidence enough for Poison Idea to claim their self-appointed throne.

The Feeding of the 5000 is the first album by the anarcho-punk band Crass. The album was recorded on 29 October 1978, by John Loder at Southern Studios and was released the same year. It was considered revolutionary in its time due to what was considered an extreme sound, frequently profane lyrical content and the anarchist political ideals in the lyrics. This album is considered one of the first punk albums to expound serious anarchist philosophies.

Youth OF Today was initially active from 1985 to 1990 before reforming in 2010. The band played a major role in establishing the “youth-crew” subculture of hardcore, both espousing and evolving the philosophies of the straight-edge and vegetarian lifestyles. Formed in Danbury, Connecticut, by two members of the hardcore band Violent Children, Ray Cappo (vocals) and John Porcelly (aka Porcell, guitar) were aiming to start a straight-edge band at a time when most old-school straight-edge bands had disbanded. Having difficulty finding a bassist and drummer, Ray and Porcell found help from two high-school friends, Graham Phillips and Darren Pesce, who had played with Porcell in a band called THE Young Republicans in the past. In 1986, Underdog vocalist Richie Birkenhead joined the band on second guitar. With this lineup, the first Youth OF Today full-length album was recorded, Break Down The Walls. More than just an album, it’s an anthem for a way of life.

Flex Your Head was first released in January 1982 and was the first full-length album released by Dischord Records. The compilation features thirty-two songs by 11 DC area bands and went a long way towards “putting DC on the map” as one of the era’s great punk scenes. This new edition, which has been re-cut features a cover image of the DC Flag stars and bars (on a red field), an image so associated with DC punk that many mistake it for a made-up symbol for straight edge. This cover image was also used (on a black field) for an edition of the album briefly pressed in conjunction with Alternative Tentacles in the ‘80s. Nervous Gender’s legendary synthpunk LP Music From Hell burbles up from infernal depths to resurface on Dark Entries! Nervous Gender (de)formed in LA in 1978 at the hands of Phranc, Gerardo Velaquez, Edward Stapleton, and Michael Ochoa. Phranc, the androgynous embodiment of the band’s name, left in 1980. Following her departure, a wide cast of LA freaks would find themselves drawn into the band’s orbit, including Alice Bag of the Bags, Paul Roessler of the Screamers, the Germs’ Don Bolles, and an 8-year old drummer named Sven Pfeiffer. In 1980, Nervous Gender appeared on the seminal Live at Target compilation alongside Factrix, uns, and Flipper. With the band’s notoriety cemented, Music from Hell followed in 1981 on Subterranean Records (as no LA label would touch this material). Side A, dubbed “Martyr Complex”, presents a more punk-forward sound with live drum salvos and slabs of aggressive synth. These twitchy, unsettling shockers ooze with the kind of snotty misanthropy that will endear them to fans of the Screamers or Crass. Side B, known as “Beelzebub Youth”, is a live performance the band labeled "an electronic bruto-canto dissertation on the banality of spiritual transcendence." Mutant melodies cede way to synthesized clangs, whirs, bleeps, manipulated tapes, and howls of despair. In addition to all the material from the original LP, we’re treated to a full disc of the band’s demos, the material from the Live at Target compilation, and early live recordings. This is a 24 track Vinyl compilation compiled by J Mascis (DINOSAUR JR) featuring all the recorded material from his first band DEEP WOUND. DEEP WOUND were a hardcore punk band from western Massachusetts formed in 1982 and J Mascis's first band. They released one self-titled EP in 1983. They are often noted as being, along with SIEGE, one of the early inspirations for Grindcore. Members were: J Mascis - drums, Lou Barlow - guitar, Scott Helland - bass guitar, Charlie Nakajima - Vocals.

Remastered and reissued vinyl version of what should've been one of the first 10 records you ever bought. Named as a reference to some of Freud's ideas concerning sexuality, this release marked something of a departure from the somewhat macho, hardcore punk image that The Feeding of the 5000 & Stations of the Crass had given the group. Featuring more obviously complex musical arrangements, this release showcases exclusively female vocals provided by EVE Libertine and JOY DE Vivre. The album addressed feminist issues and once again attacked the institutions of "the system" such as marriage and sexual repression.

"Stations of the Crass is the second album by Crass, released in 1979. The record, originally released as a double 12", includes live tracks from a gig recorded at the Pied Bull pub in Islington, London, on August 7, 1979. The first three sides contain the studio tracks and play at 45 rpm, while the final side comprises the live material and plays at 33 rpm. The album's title is not only a pun on the Catholic rite of the Stations of the Cross (such jibes against the religious establishment were typical of Crass), but is also a reference to the graffiti campaign that the band had been conducting around London's underground railway system, the cover artwork depicting a wall at Bond Street tube station that had allegedly been 'decorated' by them. Although the album met mixed critical reception at first, it managed to sell at least 20,000 copies within two weeks.”
