As outlined in the above description State of Fear had set out on a hardcore path widely copied but never matched throughout 1994-1996. It’s in this period that they attempt their first full length LP which although marred by recording issues and personnel changes, would go on to be regarded by most as an contender for one of the best LP’s of 1990’s in the hardcore punk genre. Volume 2 is this stand-alone LP by the band and features the original artwork of Marald who has also gone on to a famed career in the fine art world, this includes a large 4 page booklet with all lyrics included, and an A2 poster. Did I mention that both Vol. 1 and 2 have been remastered by Jack Control for the highest sound quality possible. These are definitive documents of one of the best hardcore bands to exist.

This two-volume set of records which represents the complete discography of State of Fear couldn’t have come at a better time with the current hardcore/crust scene in the U.S. on the rise once again. A new generation of punks have scoured the filthy depths of the genre to find the classics, and State of Fear ticks every box of a classic hardcore band. Formed from the ex-members of Disrupt and Deformed Conscious, State of Fear adopted a more streamlined hardcore attack than that of either of their former bands, but kept intact the political and dark themes of the crust bands they had come from. This was hardcore made by fans of Swedish bands like Skitlickers, MOB 47, Anti-cimex, and although they definitely wear their influences on their sleeve, they created a sound which was enigmatically their own. Entering the scene in the heyday of the Minneapolis crust explosion spearheaded by Profane Existence in 1994, they immediately made their mark with powerful live showings and a no-bullshit delivery. Volume 1 includes the self titled debut, and the infamous ‘Wallow in Squalor’ EP’s, State of Fear showcase a devastating combination of speed and memorable riffs not seen by another band in America since. Songs like ‘Blood Thirsty System’, ‘Violation’, ‘Consumption’ emboldened a generation of punks in the 90’s, while confirming their feelings of rage at the political system in place, which sadly still stands today. These songs aren’t going to lose appeal until the blood thirsty system falls. Sonarize Records has added a large format 12 page booklet that includes a biography, interviews, lyrics, and hard to find photos of the band.

On this record we're collecting in chronological order all the demos and the studio recording sessions that haven't been released on any official release so far. A total of 29 tracks that originally appeared on "K.A.A.S January 1982", "K.A.A.S April 1982", "En Produkt Av Dagens Skitsamhälle" tapes plus the studio session right before the "Raped Ass" 7" EP and the discarded recordings for the full length that never saw the light and eventually became the "Victims Of A Bomb Raid" 7" EP. All you Cimex maniacs out there probably already know most of the songs, but you'll definitely find a bunch of extremely obscure tracks which I bet you've never heard before. The story of northern English band Blitz follows something of an unusual trajectory. Formed in the small industrial town of New Mills in Derbyshire (once known for coal mines, cotton mills and calico bleaching), Blitz began as a hardcore concern, their first two albums considered classics of the ‘street punk’ and Oi subgenres of the early 1980s, but third album Second Empire Justice shifted their sound in a totally unexpected post-punk/new wave direction, with intricate arrangements, greater musical complexity and a generally softer style. Unfortunately for the group, the album was a commercial failure that spelled their ultimate demise, yet just as the band bit the dust, bassist Neil McLennan and guitarist Nidge Miller formed Rose of Victory with drummer Gary Bowler and engineer Nigel Beverley on vocals, cutting a one-off version of Bowie’s “Suffragette City,” coupled with an equally intriguing Miller instrumental on the flip. Rose of Victory never lasted beyond this initial offering, however, leaving the single a unique memento of their faltering creativity.

Jack talks about how the record came about in a recent interview with Memphis filmmaker, Mike McCarthy: Mike: What is the history of the songs and how do they break down on previous releases? Jack: In the past years around 2009 or 10 or something like that I wanted to make a mix tape as a cassette release and call it “After Party.” I wanted to record an 8-track tape of songs also as a sort of alternative. The whole concept was anything that was recorded in the apartment where I live now – and have been living for a long time – whether it was me playing on it or not.

Charlie Manning is Chubby AND THE Gang. The 30-something-year-old born-and-bred Londoner kicked off the project in 2019 with the intention of blending hardcore punk with the most infectious elements of ’70s rock ‘n’ roll and doo-wop. Charlie brought in a “gang” of rotating instrumentalists performing on the albums Speed Kills (2020) and The Mutt’s Nuts (2021), both released through Partisan Records. Fast forward to now, and for the release of the upcoming album And Then There Was..., Chubby AND THE Gang joins long-running hardcore label Flatspot Records. The album is 16 songs written and performed by Charlie, produced by Jonah Falco, and recorded and mixed by James Atckinson. It’s a mix of control and chaos, love and loneliness, rage and vulnerability. The songs scream to be heard in a live setting, but feel just as at home playing over the speakers of a dimly lit local pub. “There’s A Devil In The Jukebox” is a roaring punk track. “The Bonnie Banks” storytelling nature leads to repetitive refrain that is begging to be shouted along with. There’s the raucous and simply put “Anticop.” An expansive, drawn-out moment of facing mortality on “To Fade Away.” And the record ends with an emotive piano ballad in “Cocaine Sunday.” Throughout And Then There Was..., Charlie exposes his prowess for melody and exposition of true self.

With wistful eyes they’re seen pushing strollers through to the suburbs, far away from dirty dens credible dark nooks and shitty toilets. To mend this rapidly declining rock image they´ve decided to release what they consider to be their worst album so far: A collection of B-songs that have never made the list when assembling the list of Norwegian Grammy nominated classics. This upcoming album is nothing less of a wonderful bouquet of contemptuous elegies who haven't yet found a place on the big, dark web. Truth be told the opinionated armor GBZ has been hiding behind was mostly for show, they’ve always beat around the bush – or as we say in Norwegian: had a walk around the porridge.

The 3-track "Forever" E.P. on Transluscent Red 10" Vinyl is limited to 250 copies and features two new compositions, the title track "Forever" and "My Slum Soul", plus an incendiary new version of an old live favourite "Ink Runs Dry". Folk Devils, the London group that took their name from a well-known academic text on social scapegoating, and who blazed a trail across the UK's independent music scene of the mid-80s with their unique brand of post-punk energy, have returned with their first new music in 35 years. Recorded at London's famous Konk Studios in North London and mixed and co- produced by Grammy Award-winning engineer Rik Simpson, the re-born Folk Devils drew inspiration from the release of their 2016 career retrospective "Beautiful Monsters" and the reactions at subsequent live shows around the UK with kindred spirits Membranes, Inca Babies and The Cravats. Founder members, guitarist Kris Jozajtis and bassist Mark Whiteley, reformed the group by recruiting members of a short-lived 1987 version of Folk Devils; guitarist Nick Clift and drummer John Hamilton. Together with singer Dave Hodgson they soon discovered they had created a well-oiled twin-guitar juggernaut that brimmed with the same restless, twisted blues that characterized the first and second iterations of the band from 1983-87 when they were fronted by the highly underrated and now sadly-departed singer/songwriter Ian Lowery. Hodgson, a fellow transplant from the North-East, had known Lowery in the early 80s prior to Folk Devils, when the two were in their respective post-punk bands Ski Patrol and Parting Shots.

Continuing in their campaign to unveil the hidden history of the 1980s Virginian hardcore punk scene, Beach Impediment unearths the Existence Demo 1985 by Virginia Beach skate thrashers Disarm. Taking inspiration from New Yorks’ Agnostic Front, Boston's SS Decontrol, Sweden's Anti-Cimex as well as the burgeoning thrash metal from Californias’ Slayer and Possessed, Disarm were truly a product of their time and in their brief two-year lifespan, the teenaged quartet bombed up and down the east coast sharing stages with Corrosion Of Conformity, Youth Of Today and Gang Green among others. Recorded in a suburban garage studio during a sweltering summer, Existence Demo 1985 combines the brute sonic force of hardcore with a blinding thrash delivery to create one of the most unheralded demo tapes of the era. Remastered from the original reels by Chris Corry and released in conjunction with No Idols, the Existence Demo 1985 gets its’ well-deserved vinyl debut, almost 40 years after its’ recording. Each record features a layout adorned with imagery from the band's brief existence along with liner notes derived from an interview conducted by Tony Rettman with guitarist Raymond Epstein and vocalist Bryan Zentz. “artificial Peace lasted barely a year, but in that short time managed to become a leading band in the early DC hardcorepunk scene. Pete Murray had played in the short-lived RED C while Mike Manos, ROB Moss and Steve Polcari were in a band called Assault & Battery. Towards the end of 1981 they formed A.P. and began playing around town. They were tight, fast, and aggressive, prerequisites for most of the DC bands of the time, but also had a unique sound and surprisingly catchy songs. I loved the band and offered to record them at Inner Ear Studios. In November 1981 the studio was still a 4-track in the basement of DON ZIENTARA’s family house. The ‘live’ room was actually his children’s playroom, and the mixing desk and tape machine were set up next to the furnace in what could be described as spacious closet. A.P. knocked out their 17 songs in almost no time. I think we recorded, mixed, and sequenced the tape in two or three days and were very happy with the results. There may have been some discussion about putting a few of these songs on a 7” EP, but at that time all of the label’s resources had been put into releasing Flex Your Head, our first full-length album. FYH was a compilation documenting the DC punk scene and since A.P were one of the great young bands coming up at that time, we included three songs from their session. There never was an opportunity to do anything with the other 14 songs as Dischord was poor and, like many of the bands in DC at that time, A.P. was not long for this world. However, before breaking up in the latter half of 1982, A.P. recorded again at CAB studios in Rockville, MD and released those recordings on a split 7” (w/The Exiled). This was the fi rst release on the Fountain of Youth label. After A.P. disbanded, Pete, Steve, and Mike started playing with Kenny Inouye and Andre LEE to form Marginal MAN. That band would release a 12” on Dischord as well as two full-lengths on Gasatanka and Giant respectively and continued playing for seven years. While working on the Dischord Archives, we came across the Artificial Peace November 81 session and decided that the tape should be finally and properly released in its entirety. Artificial Peace may well be an obscure band, but their effect on the DC scene was signifi cant and played a sure role in the evolution of the music.”—Ian MacKaye, 2010

Hear the brutal anguish and aural suffering! LG Records has gathered out-of-print and unreleased recordings by two of San Diego’s more infamous and obscure punk bands from the very early 1990’s onto one blistering split LP.

Often remembered merely as side-projects of Heroin and End of the Line, Sloog (aka Slug) and Brain Tourniquet were standalone outfits that were beloved locally but barely made any impact outside of the local San Diego scene. Sloog were heavy, tortuous, and disturbing. Fronted by mysterious and odiferous local character “Justinman”, Sloog sounded like they could have been the lovechild of Savage Republic and United Mutation. Brain Tourniquet were a younger thrash band who were noticeably inspired by contemporaries like Born Against and Crossed Out. Primitive and sublime, members went on to bigger things, but this was the not-so-humble beginning.

The first release for each band was the 1991 Slug/Brain Tourniquet split cassette, released as Gravity Records #0. Copies of this tape were sold at local shows and during Brain Tourniquet’s west coast tour with Heroin. Sloog would record multiple demos in 1990 and 1991, and in the end they recorded what became their only vinyl release, 1992’s Pigs 7”. The material on this LP was pulled together from all of these recordings.

From São Paulo, the largest metro area in the southern hemisphere, hails Point OF NO Return. Founded in 1996, this three-singer Brazilian band has long carried the vegan, straight-edge banner in the tropics, singing about political issues and playing a metallic, mosh-infused brand of hardcore. After releasing two albums, one EP, and extensively touring South America and Europe in the early 2000s, the band went on hiatus in 2006. At the point the band stopped playing, they had written nine new songs, which they planned to eventually record and release as a third album. However, life got in the way as members formed families and some moved away from São Paulo. Slowly, they began to progress toward finishing and recording the new songs: instruments were recorded in Brazil in 2017, lyrics were written between 2019 and 2024, and vocals were recorded between 2023 and 2024. The result is Point OF NO Return’s new album, The Language Of Refusal, whose title refers to hardcore punk as a transnational community, a form of art, and a means of expression for those discontent with the way things are. With songs addressing some of the most pressing issues today, such as deforestation and labor exploitation in the Amazon rainforest, the inequities of global warming, the rise of global conservative populism, and the challenges of organizing dissenting political movements, the album delivers these topics in a mix of late-’90s mosh core, SLAYER-esque riffs, gang vocals, and hints of Napalm Death.

Violent Ritual offers five tracks of Personal Damage’s trademark snot-fueled, short-fast-and-loud hardcore punk, the longest track clocking in at a mere 80 seconds. While the songs are short, they’re hardly insubstantial, packing albums worth of excitement into each delicately constructed and tightly wound composition. Pedal-to-the-floor fast parts are punctuated by Lucky Lehrer-style rhythmic inventions, each song building toward a climactic guitar solo and/or call-and-response chorus. While so many contemporary hardcore bands de-emphasize the vocals, they’re Personal Damage’s most potent weapon, with all three members contributing to the dynamic vocal arrangements and every track offering a chance to shout along. While the first four tracks blazes at early Gang Green velocities, the closing “Banned from Society” stretches things out ever so slightly with a classic SoCal rhythm and the record’s most anthemic vocal. Violent Ritual is the most potent dose yet from one of the 2020s’ most exciting hardcore punk bands.

Divine Right is a straight-edge, metallic, hardcore/metalcore band based out of Charlotte, NC. After befriending one another in spring 2023, the quintet spent the summer of that year writing their debut EP, Salvation Ends. Released digitally in early February 2024, Salvation Ends is a five-song EP with lyrics ranging from subjects such as not being taken advantage of by industries and political figures, embracing being straight edge, loved ones going through substance abuse and the toll that can take on those close to them, religious organizations abusing people at their weakest points, and coping with the loss of loved ones. Taking inspiration from bands like Strife, ALL OUT WAR, Sentence, Arkangel, and North Carolina metalcore legends Prayer FOR Cleansing, the group wants nothing more than to embody the spirit of ’90s-style hardcore and help keep the Carolina scene alive.

What started out as an exciting career kick off back in 2019, with the Fat Skeleton EP on Iron Lung Records, Homeless Cadaver continued to write with the intention of making more records and finally playing a show but the 2020 police had alternate plans for the band. We don’t need to get into the details on that but they’re out now and picking up where they left off. Before the break they had recorded most of these four songs intended for a release on a Southern Californian label (details also withheld here, NDA blah blah blah) but the label didn’t have the patience to deal with the mess so HC was dropped and the world moved on. Well kinda, it was early 2020, so I guess you could say the world moved… in. Anyway, the band finished the songs late last year and sent them to us so here we are, offering stripped down, juvenile thug synth KBD inspired garage stains about hustling, dating and excessive pleasures. Speaking of excessive, at one point during the Champale Wishes and Cadaviar Dreams completion phase the band did up some deluxe horn and string arrangements to accompany the EP. And then laughed really really hard when they threw them directly in the trash because “that shit sucks” and “what are we Juliards?”. They certainly have a way with words... 200 copies of black 70gr vinyl housed in a hand cut and assembled, silk screened glue pocket sleeve. Recorded in their rehearsal shed.
