Junger Punk steht breit lächelnd in kahler Raumecke vor zerschlissener Tonbandmaschine; kurzgeschorene, blondierte Haare, schnittige Sonnenbrille mit dünnen Metallbügeln, angejahrte Lederjacke über buntem Flanellhemd; Trainspotting-Ästhetik. Beschriebenes Foto ist gewiss kein typisches Albumcover-Motiv - und doch ziert es das Cover vom neuen, achten Studioalbum der Husumer, Hamburger, Berliner Band Turbostaat. Der Mann im Zentrum des angegilbten Schnappschusses? Turbostaat-Stammproduzent und Toningenieur Moses Schneider in seinen späten Zwanzigern; oder in seinen frühen Dreißigern - jedenfalls in einem Lebensabschnitt vor Kamillentee und Hochglanz-Equipment. Dreck, Wut, Tatendrang, Aufbruchsstimmung, rotziger Pessimismus, unverhohlen grantiger Punk-Geist - das sind die Parallelen zwischen jenem Foto und der Platte, die es bebildert. Sie hört mit Fug und Recht auf den Namen 'Alter Zorn', klingt mehr nach Stunde null als nach Spätwerk-LP und probt - anstatt friedfertig zu umarmen - den unsanft aufrüttelnden Würgegriff.

Okay, geschenkt: Friedfertig umarmt haben Turbostaat ihre Hörer*innen auf musikalischer Ebene Zeit ihres Bestehens ohnehin nie. Da war immer mehr Understatement und nordfriesische Nüchternheit als Charmeoffensive oder Frohmut, immer mehr Sehnsucht als Wohlbehagen, immer mehr Krach, wirre Worte und bärbeißige Mine zum bösen Spiel als gut gelaunter Humbug. Turbostaat-Musik, das ist Punkrock, dem Wattenmeer-Nebel in den Lungen hängt - seitdem sich die Band 1999 in der schleswig-holsteinischen Provinz formiert hat und auch ein Vierteljahrhundert später.

Wo sonst Möwen, Wattenmeer-Nebel und graue Weiten waren, verdecken nun Taubenschwärme, endzeitlich versmogte Betonburgen und eine gottverdammte Bismarck-Statue, die dem Szeneviertel ihren metergroßen Arsch entgegenstreckt, die Sicht auf alles Schöne. 'Alter Zorn' blickt auf die »Affenstraße«, auf verwahrloste Eckkneipen, in der sich düstere Schatten stapeln, auf »Ruinen zwischen Glas und Stahl«, auf Metropolen voll »greller Sommerkotze« und Spiegelscherben, die immer enger werden - und nur selten starr auf’s offene Meer. Was den schwammigen Protagonist*innen des Turbostaat-Universums dennoch geblieben ist, ist die bohrende Einsamkeit - dieses wütend-resignierte Gefühl, es nicht zustandezubringen, »hier mitzumarschieren«. 'Alter Zorn' zeichnet eine Dystopie - eine Welt zwischen Novembergicht und Hitzestau, in der sich tote Schwäne im Graben stapeln, Panzer rollen, die Luft knapp wird, Obdachlose die Straße umarmen, alle alles mit Karte bezahlen, in Ledersitzen zittern, die Laune im Arsch und überhaupt »wirklich Sense« ist.

Faraquet began as a side project featuring Smart Went Crazy members Devin Ocampo and Jeff Boswell, along with Devin's high school friend Chad Molter. Faraquet stepped up as a full-time band after the demise of SWC and started playing more shows, releasing a couple of singles as well as appearing on a split CD with Akarso. Due to their non-traditional time signatures and off-kilter arrangements the band was often described as “math-rock”—a description they never warmed up to. Faraquet felt more aligned with the Minutemen and both the passion of their live performance and their advanced sense of melody set them well above and apart from the basement scientist crowd. The View from This Tower was recorded by J. Robbins and released in November of 2000. In 2003 core Faraquet members Devin and Chad reunited to form Medications, who continue to release new music on Dischord Records. Remastered from the original tapes. LP includes a download.

2024 re-release of Marching Orders' second LP originally recorded between February and October 2012 and released in 2013. This re-release contains re-worked and updated artwork plus insert jacket with full lyrics/band pics and credits.Living Proof was branded 'The best Marching Orders release ever' by reviewers and featured songs that are still played regularly at live shows today. From 'Dog Eat Dog' to 'Spirit Of 84' to the drumless ballad 'Hand Of Fate' there was a wide range of song-writing on the album to appeal to all. Rooted firmly in their Australian environment, the influences are evident with nods to the likes of The Angels and Rose Tattoo. "Old City, New Ruins" takes its title from Rome, the city where the band is based. It depicts the contemporary ruins of the capital, yet it's merely a pretext to expose the complexities of everyday life common to Western societies and their major cities, foremost among them. The album unfolds episode by episode, driven by the need to express anger and frustration, but also the antidotes to them. Social references abound, as well as intimate reflections and even profound investigations into the psychoses of the marginalized and abandoned. It tells the story of collective strength, musically expressed through a choral quality that runs deep in the band."Old City, New Ruins" is a unique hardcore album, inspired both by emerging currents of the genre - such as Comeback Kid, Turnstile, Trapped Under Ice - and by the European and Northern European heavy tradition - like Kvelertak, Turbonegro - to the pantheon of influences of Feldspar: Nirvana, Motorhead, Gorilla Biscuits, Slayer and everything in between. The album consists of ten songs, with bellicose episodes alternating with cathartic moments, explosions of energy accompanied by timeless slogans, songs for celebration and songs for war, moments for reflection, and others for denunciation. All of this alternates within the ten tracks preceding the instrumental that gives the album its title, also the final track of the record, a sort of Carpenteresque ballad that serves as the soundtrack to visualize the marvelous and creepy ruins Feldspar speaks of. Production note: for the album, Feldspar worked alongside Nick Terry, a legendary figure in the English music scene, known for his productions with Ian Brown/Stone Roses, The Libertines, Turbonegro, Simian Mobile Disco, Kvelertak, Peaches, and more. His involvement adds international depth to the project. The artwork was entrusted to Chris Wilson, an American illustrator renowned for his work on covers for bands like MindForce, Scowl, Combust, and Gel, essentially the cream of the crop of contemporary American hardcore.

Not much has been written written about the conceptual hardcore band inspired by and named after a 9th century antisocial loner monk-poet of China’s Tang dynasty. Han-shan [the band] existed from 1991 to ‘93 in California. Their lyrics covered themes of solitude, mystery, poverty, and discord, directly inspired by the verses of the titular poet. Han-shan’s music was psychopathic, with blood-curdling vocals, and messy but powerful, in the vein of Void, Siege or Septic Death. The band played to the absolute limits of their physical ability and then some, with a sound that complemented their West Coast contemporaries—bands like Heroin, Mohinder, Second Story Window, Antioch Arrow and Angel Hair. Recorded in San Diego by Matt Anderson in late 1993 and originally released posthumously in early 1994 on the tiny Soledad record label, Hans-shan’s eight song seven inch EP came packaged in a manila envelope, each one hand-printed with a woodcut block and roller, with the art and insert referencing both the poet and Tang dynasty China. LG Records has carefully reproduced this cover art and returned to the original multitrack tape. Tim Green has remixed the recording at Louder Studios for a significantly more powerful, and yes, Louder, 12” 45rpm release. Members of Han-shan had previously been in Suckerpunch, Brain Tourniquet, End of the Line, and John Henry West; and went on to play in Behead The Prophet Nlsl, Solid Gold, Drunk Horse, Astral, Tight Bro’s from Way Back When, Sex/Vid, Very Paranoia, Low Plateau and Nudity. Second release on Robert Pollard's new Splendid Research label is a vinyl & CD reissue of a 1984 demo cassette by Children's Crusade, post-punk teenage band of Guided By Voices' Doug Gillard. The Cleveland guitarist went on to record for Scat, Homestead and Restless Records with the bands Death of Samantha, Cobra Verde, My Dad Is Dead, and Gem, before joining GBV (1996-2004), then Nada Surf (2010-2016), then rejoining GBV (2016-present), as well as playing on albums by Richard Buckner, Neko Case and others. 1980s Cleveland was a hotbed for indie rock, following in the Northern Ohio footsteps of Pere Ubu, The Dead Boys, The Styrenes, Mirrors and Devo. It was 1992 when a hardcore band was formed in the tranquil town of Kassel: The Ryker's were born. A name that, even decades later (!), is familiar to anyone who is even remotely familiar with hardcore in general and the scene in Germany and Europe in particular. Massively influenced by the sound of the Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front and Sick of it All, the Ryker's gradually gained a foothold on larger stages in clubs and at festivals.

After the 1995 album First Blood, Germany was covered in dark blue hoodies with the Brother Against Brother print. Everyone knew the band. After various singles and LPs, a real masterpiece of an album was released in 1999: "Life's A Gamble... And So Is Death". The band was technically at their peak and in top form, with ultra-brutal groove, hard metal guitars and a really strong drumming that sets the pace for hard pits. Add to that the distinctive, deep and ultra-angry voice of Kid D. - to this day rarely achieved by other shouters. "Life's A Gamble" was released on Century Media Records, the only right step after the relevant experience with a major label. The label, which was still manageable at the time compared to today, offered the band exactly the right platform for this smash album. 18 songs, including 3 brilliant cover versions, make up a whopping 49 minutes. Almost an epic by HC standards. All killers – no fillers.

Of course there was also a vinyl version in 1999. This is now a sought-after rarity and has never been re-pressed. Why not? Well, then Noisy Plastics Records and Backbite Records are taking over at this point and are finally presenting you with a vinyl repress of this milestone almost 25 years later. The record will be released on December 20th, 2024 and collectors can look forward to chic colored vinyl editions and the legendary liquid-filled vinyl from “ Vinyl Manufaktur ”. This reissue was created under license from Century Media Records and in collaboration with the band.

For us, Nico and Mo, it's a real matter of the heart. Working on a repress of such a legendary LP is simply the best job in the world. 'nuf said.
