Emerging from the ashes of the Shark Bait, which contributed with one track on the Stomping At The Klub Foot Vol.5 compilation album, the Irish Psychobilly quartet released this fine rocking album on Links Records back in very early 1989, before vanishing without a trace. A solid mixture of wild and powerful Rockabilly , awesome cover versions and varied sounds and lyrics make Dark Streets real remarkable. On a side note, front man and vocalist Dave Finnegan became a Hollywood star with the blockbuster movie The Commitments. It's probably an understatement to say FAT Mike is a bit of a contentious figure. Whether through Nofx—the punk band he formed in 1983—or outside of it, he likes to provoke and prod people. Because of that, people often dismiss Nofx as little more than an amusing pop-punk band. They're wrong. That's one of the reasons Fat Mike decided to sit down with his good friend and frequent musical collaborator BAZ THE Frenchman and make Gets Strung Out, a record of (mostly) Nofx songs recast and reimagined as classical compositions. It's a way of setting the record straight for those who think Nofx are just another punk band. Suffice it to say, Gets Strung Out is quite an addition to his resume, one that most people would likely not expect, and designed to dispel dumb punk musician stereotype. It does so comprehensively—and this record only solidifies that fact. "The thing is," says Fat Mike, "I really want people to understand my songwriting.” "I'm A Rat," is a perfect example. "The punk version of that song," Mike says, "is 54 chords in a row without any repeat. And when you listen to the classical version, you can hear that. Finally, people can hear every part of my songs without my vocals and drums annoying them. And what you hear on these songs is what the songs are. It's the melody, it's the harmony, it's the guitar chords and octave chords, and it's the bass. Those are the parts." It's true. Needless to say, though, the songs also sound completely different from their original incarnations. They were all transposed and translated by Baz The Frenchman using midi, then recorded by professional classical musicians playing violas, violins, cello, bass, and piano. The result is that these songs transformed into something you could and would never imagine they could become—truly beautiful pieces of classical music.

2024 re-release of Marching Orders' second LP originally recorded between February and October 2012 and released in 2013. This re-release contains re-worked and updated artwork plus insert jacket with full lyrics/band pics and credits.Living Proof was branded 'The best Marching Orders release ever' by reviewers and featured songs that are still played regularly at live shows today. The time was right when Joe Strummer and Joe Simonon of The Clash decided to take the so-called long and winding road. This famous show at the Station Pub in Gateshead was more than an intimate affair. And it was part of the acoustic busking tour the band took after the release of their latest studio album, Cut The Crap. This set is dated May 11, 1985, and it’s a brilliant example of the rootsy folk heritage the two were delivering at the time. This particular recording was produced while the band was performing outside The Station in Gateshead, Newcastle in front of what sounds like a lucky 50 or so people! You hear a single acoustic guitar with some clavinets or wood blocks clapping out the beat...and then the reaction from the crowd in -between. The sound is crisp and clear even if the band was playing "off-mike". A rarity in its own.

Not much has been written written about the conceptual hardcore band inspired by and named after a 9th century antisocial loner monk-poet of China’s Tang dynasty. Han-shan [the band] existed from 1991 to ‘93 in California. Their lyrics covered themes of solitude, mystery, poverty, and discord, directly inspired by the verses of the titular poet. Han-shan’s music was psychopathic, with blood-curdling vocals, and messy but powerful, in the vein of Void, Siege or Septic Death. The band played to the absolute limits of their physical ability and then some, with a sound that complemented their West Coast contemporaries—bands like Heroin, Mohinder, Second Story Window, Antioch Arrow and Angel Hair. Recorded in San Diego by Matt Anderson in late 1993 and originally released posthumously in early 1994 on the tiny Soledad record label, Hans-shan’s eight song seven inch EP came packaged in a manila envelope, each one hand-printed with a woodcut block and roller, with the art and insert referencing both the poet and Tang dynasty China. LG Records has carefully reproduced this cover art and returned to the original multitrack tape. Tim Green has remixed the recording at Louder Studios for a significantly more powerful, and yes, Louder, 12” 45rpm release. Members of Han-shan had previously been in Suckerpunch, Brain Tourniquet, End of the Line, and John Henry West; and went on to play in Behead The Prophet Nlsl, Solid Gold, Drunk Horse, Astral, Tight Bro’s from Way Back When, Sex/Vid, Very Paranoia, Low Plateau and Nudity. Second release on Robert Pollard's new Splendid Research label is a vinyl & CD reissue of a 1984 demo cassette by Children's Crusade, post-punk teenage band of Guided By Voices' Doug Gillard. The Cleveland guitarist went on to record for Scat, Homestead and Restless Records with the bands Death of Samantha, Cobra Verde, My Dad Is Dead, and Gem, before joining GBV (1996-2004), then Nada Surf (2010-2016), then rejoining GBV (2016-present), as well as playing on albums by Richard Buckner, Neko Case and others. 1980s Cleveland was a hotbed for indie rock, following in the Northern Ohio footsteps of Pere Ubu, The Dead Boys, The Styrenes, Mirrors and Devo. "Children’s Crusade was a fleeting blotch on the wild, mid-80s Cleveland underground music scene, slowly seeping through like a drop of oil on the uniformly black jeans of that era – noticeable only after it settles, spreads, and you realize it won’t come out in the wash."

It was 1992 when a hardcore band was formed in the tranquil town of Kassel: The Ryker's were born. A name that, even decades later (!), is familiar to anyone who is even remotely familiar with hardcore in general and the scene in Germany and Europe in particular. There was no getting around them, especially in the 90s. Massively influenced by the sound of the Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front and Sick of it All, the Ryker's gradually gained a foothold on larger stages in clubs and at festivals.

After the 1995 album First Blood, Germany was covered in dark blue hoodies with the Brother Against Brother print. Everyone knew the band. After various singles and LPs, a real masterpiece of an album was released in 1999: "Life's A Gamble... And So Is Death". The band was technically at their peak and in top form, with ultra-brutal groove, hard metal guitars and a really strong drumming that sets the pace for hard pits. Add to that the distinctive, deep and ultra-angry voice of Kid D. - to this day rarely achieved by other shouters. "Life's A Gamble" was released on Century Media Records, the only right step after the relevant experience with a major label. The label, which was still manageable at the time compared to today, offered the band exactly the right platform for this smash album. 18 songs, including 3 brilliant cover versions, make up a whopping 49 minutes. Almost an epic by HC standards. All killers – no fillers.

Of course there was also a vinyl version in 1999. This is now a sought-after rarity and has never been re-pressed. Why not? Well, then Noisy Plastics Records and Backbite Records are taking over at this point and are finally presenting you with a vinyl repress of this milestone almost 25 years later. The record will be released on December 20th, 2024 and collectors can look forward to chic colored vinyl editions and the legendary liquid-filled vinyl from “ Vinyl Manufaktur ”. This reissue was created under license from Century Media Records and in collaboration with the band.

For us, Nico and Mo, it's a real matter of the heart. Working on a repress of such a legendary LP is simply the best job in the world. 'nuf said.
