As an homage to the average length of a pop song, the title symbolizes the question of the why of one's own creativity, the art of switching off in these times and the unforgettable pleasure of a fleeting moment. The ten tracks on the record examine various topics, mostly in a critical examination of current social developments. For example, "Hängepeters" denounces the careless handling of the legacy of colonial crimes, while "Lindnereffekt" takes aim at the increasing superficiality in politics. Kleiekotzer" takes a critical look at the role of the media in society's shift to the right. But that is only one side of "Für 3 Minuten 11". The Carpe Diem anthem "Panini" shows that things can also be lighter and more liberating, and the song "Pflugschreiber" sends a musical greeting to the pride of Mannheim's adopted city in its pop academy. It is the intense mixture of profound lyrics and energetic sound with a pinch of hope and cheerfulness that makes "Für 3 Minuten 11" the musical equivalent of an intense, short-lived moment to be enjoyed to the full.

The time was right when Joe Strummer and Joe Simonon of The Clash decided to take the so-called long and winding road. This famous show at the Station Pub in Gateshead was more than an intimate affair. And it was part of the acoustic busking tour the band took after the release of their latest studio album, Cut The Crap. This set is dated May 11, 1985, and it’s a brilliant example of the rootsy folk heritage the two were delivering at the time. This particular recording was produced while the band was performing outside The Station in Gateshead, Newcastle in front of what sounds like a lucky 50 or so people! You hear a single acoustic guitar with some clavinets or wood blocks clapping out the beat...and then the reaction from the crowd in -between. The sound is crisp and clear even if the band was playing "off-mike". A rarity in its own.

Tony Thorpe presents Postpunk Theory - Alpha ? is a meticulously curated compilation by the legendary Tony Thorpe, known for his work with The Moody Boys, 400 Blows, and The KLF. These classic tracks were played at parties by Thorpe at the time, making them his personal classics. The compilation features 16 rare and sought-after tracks from the post-punk era, including works by Mark Stewart and The Maffia, Basement 5, 23 Skidoo, African Headcharge, and more.

Growing up in a vibrant musical environment in South London, Thorpe was deeply influenced by the eclectic sounds around him, from jazz-funk to Brit-Funk, and later, the post-punk records he discovered. As Thorpe recalls, "Post-punk was a mishmash of different cultures and ideas. Out of post-punk came dance music culture. That period was the most creative time because the culture was in its experimental phase." This compilation captures that innovative spirit, offering a glimpse into the era that shaped Thorpe's musical journey.

The album comes as a limited 2xLP set, accompanied by an extensive 40-page fanzine. The fanzine, written by Matt Annis (Join The Future), dives deep into the post-punk movement, offering insight and context enriched with striking photographs by Simon Pyke and Ian Brodie.

Though he only released a few singles (on the legendary independent labels Bus Stop & Parasol) and the classic 1993 album “Sandbox” (recorded with a cast of friends that included Adam Schmitt, Patrick Hawley, Jay Bennett, Steve Scariano and Nick Rudd), Erik Voeks’ music has resonated deeply with a small but dedicated group of pop and powerpop fans around the world. “Lost treasure,” “hidden gem” are expressions often used to describe “Sandbox,” which is now, for the first time in its 30th anniversary, being reissued on vinyl by Hanky Panky Records along with a CD that brings together 8 demos of the album, his two singles for the Bus Stop label and a previously unreleased original track, “Pristine”. For years Erik kept a low profile, but never stopped recording music, playing with friends like The Octopus Frontier, or even touring the United States and Europe with Jon Dee Graham. In late 2012, Spring Records released a 4-song EP titled “Free Range” on vinyl, which received rave reviews. Since then, Erik has kept busy putting out more new recordings through his bandcamp page, playing live shows, and touring Spain a couple of times. In 2016, Hanky Panky released “So The Wind Won't Blow It All Away” his first full-length album in over 20 years. The album garnered much critical acclaim and was the #1 album of the year on John Borack's influential “Power Pop Plus List.” After touring Spain in 2017 as Erik Voeks & The Spanglish Settlement, Erik, Juan Ferrari, Pepe Bermejo, and Patrick Hawley decided to record an album together. Plans were made for the four of them to reunite in Spain to finish the album, but the pandemic interfered and the recording process took a long and winding road. But better late than never, as they say: “It Means Nothing To Me Now” was finally released in early 2024 under the Erik Voeks & The Ghosters moniker.. “Pure pop magic,” says the Powerpopaholic website, and who are we to disagree?

Charlie Manning is Chubby AND THE Gang. The 30-something-year-old born-and-bred Londoner kicked off the project in 2019 with the intention of blending hardcore punk with the most infectious elements of ’70s rock ‘n’ roll and doo-wop. Charlie brought in a “gang” of rotating instrumentalists performing on the albums Speed Kills (2020) and The Mutt’s Nuts (2021), both released through Partisan Records. Fast forward to now, and for the release of the upcoming album And Then There Was..., Chubby AND THE Gang joins long-running hardcore label Flatspot Records. The album is 16 songs written and performed by Charlie, produced by Jonah Falco, and recorded and mixed by James Atckinson. It’s a mix of control and chaos, love and loneliness, rage and vulnerability. The songs scream to be heard in a live setting, but feel just as at home playing over the speakers of a dimly lit local pub. “There’s A Devil In The Jukebox” is a roaring punk track. “The Bonnie Banks” storytelling nature leads to repetitive refrain that is begging to be shouted along with. There’s the raucous and simply put “Anticop.” An expansive, drawn-out moment of facing mortality on “To Fade Away.” And the record ends with an emotive piano ballad in “Cocaine Sunday.” Throughout And Then There Was..., Charlie exposes his prowess for melody and exposition of true self.

Featuring an impressive pedigree including members of Bl’ast!, Good Riddance, THE Distillers, and Fast Asleep, the band picks up right where they left off on their 2020, debut LP, Brace Yourself, with a ten-song barrage of relentless, uncompromising rage, touching on topics such as religion, self-medication, and survival in a—literally and figuratively—sick society. In between playing shows with legendary acts like Quicksand, Fear, R.K.L., and Propagandhi, the band got back together with Paul Miner at Buzzbomb Studios to lay down the follow-up to their explosive debut. All in all, it is a continuation of the band’s fast and hard approach in every way, and if anything, the band is more dialed-in and focused than ever. The songs on the record come from extremely personal and often dark places for singer and lyricist Clifford Dinsmore, such as the first single, “Hanging In The Balance.” He explains, “In the time period I was fighting cancer, I was shacked up, feeling like a prisoner in my own house. Living in a semi-purgatory state, I felt like I was looking at the world from an outside view.” Of the bleak, punishing “Omen Of Despair,” guitarist Danny B simply says, “Musically and lyrically, this is where we feel Seized UP is right now.” The band also re-recorded “Forum Of Decay,” from their 2021 7”, wishing for it to be featured on the album with the laser tightness the band is now playing with after five years as a unit.

My mates went on holiday to the Isles for this one. Galactic romantic entropy three sheets to the 'Wind. Is 'The Milkman' an effective populist who wants you to sink so that he can swim? Is this record more political than those dystopian hardcore records you sold when a nice girl opened your eyes once? It's an album dripping with clandestine musical intelligence, artisanal song-writing, great voices. The illegitimate son of Dinosaurs' bassist isn't in the mix this time, but I can assure you his spirit is there—I can almost hear the glass of side mirrors cascading to Richmond Ave on a drunken bike ride 15 years before Josh Allen and Conway The Machine made The City That Always Sleeps cool! (not recommended... you truly cannot cheat Carma).

Soul is wearing those attractive bygone eras on your sleeve without hesitation or embarrassment. Lead cuts, "Distant Dawn" and "Vital Fall" showcase the range and dexterity that Ohio seems to inherently cultivate, but tracks like "Forever Silent" (featuring Angie Willcutt from Artificial Go and Rod) and the finale, "No Necessities", are like a death trip from the cosmos down to the factory floor. It's a focused frenzy towards the finish line, a rush of calculated execution, a mad dash run with style.

This particular all-nighter was recorded live in a small room, and you can tell from the screams, handclaps, and peals of laughter that this 17 minute end result was produced in a gloriously boisterous session. Afterparty Fever!!! captures the girls-to-the-front, make-room-for-dancing, leave-’em-wanting-more live show they’ve been dishing out for freaks world-wide for the past two decades. The OKs are fronted by Helene 33 on vox, simultaneously playing impossible sounding, finger stretching 60s Ace Tone Top 5 organ tones while tossing it around like a toy… It must be seen to be believed, and a believer you shall be!

The Okmoniks recorded and produced every song on this album, and wrote them all with the forgivable exception of one cover by Tucson 60s punk outfit The Grodes. “Afterparty Fever!!!” sounds like a band in 1977 doing their favorite 1966 stompers: devastating dancers like “Don’t Wanna See You No More” and “I’ll Let You In” could fit comfortably in a John Waters teen shimmy montage, giving way to rockers like “He Left the Party with Me” and “Summer Break Up” that could serve as the captions for a comic panel in “Punk” Magazine.

The Intima led a chameleon-like existence from 1999 to 2004, confounding critics who struggled to describe their distinctive sound while sharing stages with everyone from The Rapture to The Mekons. Hailing from Olympia and Portland, the postpunk quartet utilized sharp rhythms, prescient lyrics, and a collaborative compositional approach to conjure forth a sound that manages to be explosive yet detailed, experimental yet propulsive and melodic. Featuring a classically-trained violinist, custom-tuned guitars that careen at odd angles, and an imaginative and powerful rhythm section, the band explored the intersection of art-punk and agitpop with a spirit and tenor uniquely their own. In 2017, the Polish website More Noise summed up their sound by saying that "the first association that comes to mind is The Ex and the Dutch avant punk scene of the 1980s, but fans of the bands Dirty Three, Godspeed You Black Emperor and Unwound may also be intrigued."The group toured the States extensively during the 4+ years that they were active, including one grueling six-week tour undertaken just after 9/11 and another one in 2003 during which the US began bombing Iraq. The group's live sets are remembered for their combination of unbridled intensity and tightly-coiled musicianship, as well as their chaos potential, whether that chaos was performing in the middle of an illegal street party or causing a PA to burst into flames immediately preceding a headlining set by Deerhoof. A memorable show in DC with Q And Not U was mentioned by Dischord group Black Eyes in their Speaking In Tongues booklet last year, with Hugh McElroy describing the Intima as "a really aggressively-beautiful and poetic punk band with a violin where a guitar normally would be...pushing genre barriers in a way that helped me see a vision of how we might want to do that ourselves."Peril and Panic was recorded in Olympia over eight months in 2002 and was released in 2003 on LP (Zum/Collective Jyrk) and CD (Slowdance). "Old City, New Ruins" takes its title from Rome, the city where the band is based. It depicts the contemporary ruins of the capital, yet it's merely a pretext to expose the complexities of everyday life common to Western societies and their major cities, foremost among them. The album unfolds episode by episode, driven by the need to express anger and frustration, but also the antidotes to them. Social references abound, as well as intimate reflections and even profound investigations into the psychoses of the marginalized and abandoned. It tells the story of collective strength, musically expressed through a choral quality that runs deep in the band."Old City, New Ruins" is a unique hardcore album, inspired both by emerging currents of the genre - such as Comeback Kid, Turnstile, Trapped Under Ice - and by the European and Northern European heavy tradition - like Kvelertak, Turbonegro - to the pantheon of influences of Feldspar: Nirvana, Motorhead, Gorilla Biscuits, Slayer and everything in between. The album consists of ten songs, with bellicose episodes alternating with cathartic moments, explosions of energy accompanied by timeless slogans, songs for celebration and songs for war, moments for reflection, and others for denunciation. All of this alternates within the ten tracks preceding the instrumental that gives the album its title, also the final track of the record, a sort of Carpenteresque ballad that serves as the soundtrack to visualize the marvelous and creepy ruins Feldspar speaks of. Production note: for the album, Feldspar worked alongside Nick Terry, a legendary figure in the English music scene, known for his productions with Ian Brown/Stone Roses, The Libertines, Turbonegro, Simian Mobile Disco, Kvelertak, Peaches, and more. His involvement adds international depth to the project. The artwork was entrusted to Chris Wilson, an American illustrator renowned for his work on covers for bands like MindForce, Scowl, Combust, and Gel, essentially the cream of the crop of contemporary American hardcore.

Yucca Alta Records is ecstatic to present our inaugural release: the debut, self-titled LP from the Corsano Baiza Watt Trio. This is an all-improvised, mind-blowing, punk AF mind-meeting between Chris Corsano, one of America's premier avant-garde drummers, and two legendary SoCal punk pioneers: guitarist Joe Baiza (Saccharine Trust, Universal Congress Of) and bassist Mike Watt (Minutemen, fIREHOSE). The bulk of this LP consists of studio recordings made deep in the Mojave Desert (Landers, CA to be exact) in December of 2023. The Corsano Baiza Watt Trio had never played, or even entirely met, before this session; what you hear is the surprise and fierce delight of 3 great musicians coming together in real time. The first track, "51 Card Solitaire," begins abruptly in mid-flight, capturing the exact moment that recording began, as the trio played together for the very first time. The LP's explosive last 2 tracks are taken from the trio's first-ever live show, in Watt's long-time home base of San Pedro, CA, in front of a joyous, fully lit audience. The level of group interaction revealed in these 7 tracks is truly startling. Corsano's buoyant multi-dimensional kineticism is in full effect; Baiza effortlessly mixes noir-ish, bopping single-note phrases with feral string scrapes and vicious chord-flailing; Watt holds down strong anchoring bass lines like the sailor he is, then flies abruptly, thrillingly off-script.

This one landed the Simps in W.B.A. (world builders anonymous) after total and utter detachment from reality ensued. After copious amounts of blind encouragement from their label boss and his peers (all victims of half-Zheimers) and trace amounts of measurable success (money? no sir), the groups’ egos were operating at a loss, or at least a state of confusion. Faced with the pitfalls of modern drudgery and the music industry’s impending and unrelenting judgement, their perseverance was yet again tested. Through the magical transportive inspiration of rock n roll, our unequivocally handsome protagonists found salvation thrice. R n B stimulation, ponk agitation and slop rock demonstration saved them from themselves, from the downcast stares of detractors, from the cruelness of the everyday. Art as therapy for the clinically insane. A functional state of illness is the bottom line of this cultural achievement. Herein, the band exercises the democratic tools they learnt in their formative years as craftsmen and apply them broadly to a new swath of material. The crucial pin prick guitar, exasperated (ing) vocal maelstrom and beatific pounding of the previous 2 slabs carry over, but new strategies in expounding are implicated for varied and freewheeling results. From São Paulo, the largest metro area in the southern hemisphere, hails Point OF NO Return. Founded in 1996, this three-singer Brazilian band has long carried the vegan, straight-edge banner in the tropics, singing about political issues and playing a metallic, mosh-infused brand of hardcore. After releasing two albums, one EP, and extensively touring South America and Europe in the early 2000s, the band went on hiatus in 2006. At the point the band stopped playing, they had written nine new songs, which they planned to eventually record and release as a third album. However, life got in the way as members formed families and some moved away from São Paulo. Slowly, they began to progress toward finishing and recording the new songs: instruments were recorded in Brazil in 2017, lyrics were written between 2019 and 2024, and vocals were recorded between 2023 and 2024. The result is Point OF NO Return’s new album, The Language Of Refusal, whose title refers to hardcore punk as a transnational community, a form of art, and a means of expression for those discontent with the way things are. With songs addressing some of the most pressing issues today, such as deforestation and labor exploitation in the Amazon rainforest, the inequities of global warming, the rise of global conservative populism, and the challenges of organizing dissenting political movements, the album delivers these topics in a mix of late-’90s mosh core, SLAYER-esque riffs, gang vocals, and hints of Napalm Death.

More than 4 years after "Sculpture Of Violence," Giver from Cologne, Germany, announce their third album "The Future Holds Nothing But Confrontation" for September 20, 2024, on End Hits Records. In recent years, Giver have not only refined their hardcore sound to be more brutal and atmospheric with elements of metal and post-punk, but thematically, it's clear that their new album serves as an even more drastic political manifesto. Capitalism, culture wars, the climate crisis, and their societal implications and consequences are central themes on "The Future Holds Nothing But Confrontation." Giver critique the prevailing neoliberalism and its ongoing agitation for the uncompromising pursuit of happiness and satisfaction. The band explains: "What neoliberalism has established is a lonely place. Its driving force is the individualized pursuit of constant fulfillment, altering the way we interact with each other. Whatever we do to achieve satisfaction, there's always a lingering sense of something missing. Happiness and contentment are never the goal; they've been replaced by profit margins and excess. These are endless and extremely unevenly distributed. Anger arises in this vacuum. With this album, we want to remind that it's the economic conditions and inequalities that should be the target of our collective frustration. They create depression, despair, and a downward spiral. Being anti-fascists is not enough; we must also be anti-capitalists." This anger is also reflected musically in the furious 11 new tracks. Filled with powerful guitar riffs and sometimes bilingual lyrics, some of the songs also introduce a new, deep style of spoken word for Giver, making the eventual eruptions that much more impactful. With the release of their third album, Giver venture into fresh and melodic territory, integrating elements of post-punk, black metal, and hardcore into a sound that sits somewhere between bands like Oathbreaker, Converge, or Chelsea Wolfe. Although "The Future Holds Nothing But Confrontation" builds on a foundation of biting, powerful metal, it also incorporates dark vocal lines that could be found on a Fontaines D.C. or Idles record.
