Youth OF TODAY’s final studio recording has all the energy this influential hardcore band is known for on this three-track EP. The lyrics have some of the same philosophical and spiritual influences that dominated Ray’s next band, Shelter, which recorded its first album the same year.

Hailing from Adelaide, South Australia in 1985, the ‘debut’ full-length by Where’s the Pope? established the band as a bridge between greasy, hardcore punk thrills and manic thrash attacks. After a hiatus and a slight line-up change, Sunday Afternoon BBQs diverts from the typified, aural reference points in critical UK punk icons such as Disorder and Discharge but sees the band refined as they carve out a passage soaked entirely in their own electric stink. This is a record rejoicing in the lore of beery adolescents on the edge of the city streets with the dark, frenetic menace of ‘Geek Attack’, or the tumultuous sludge of ‘Tourist Dream’ insurmountably evidential in just how profoundly important the band was to the Australian circuit.

When Von Spar made their ciritcally acclaimed entrance in the pop circuit in 2003 (e.g. coverstory in Spex Magazine) they were regarded as the German answer to the Post-Punk/No-Wave-renaissance. But their debut was more a clever parody about eighties-style-hipster-bands. Three years later and wiser the supergroup (with members of Urlaub in Polen, Oliver Twist, Aggro Cologne) returns with an uncompromising album that gets ahead of all expectations and will surprise their audience and critics who will be shocked. This is not a band following the latest trend. Detached from the usual style issues Von Spar have exorsized the Zeitgeist and overtaken the discourse. There is no scheme. Anything goes. Their new musical language is inspired by seventies Krautrock taking lines of flight to Fluxus art, Minimal Music and early TripHop. Apart from ringtone-compatible hits Von Spar reanimate the classical album-format. The two 20-minute long songs combine the spirit of exploration from Can and Kraftwerk with the conceptual aesthetics of Steve Reich and John Cage and techniques of dark, psychedelic multi-layering by Neurosis and Bohren & Der Club of Gore. All references are permantly ruptured, adopted and newly interweaved. With two new members the five-headed pack recorded in the legendary Electric Avenue Studio, Hamburg, with producer Tobias Levin (Tocotronic, Blumfeld, Kante). Their new labelbase Tomlab offers the congenial platform for this unusual journey. In some ways, Versus were the quintessential indie rock band.” —Pitchfork Versus are pioneers of the early ’90s indie rock revolution. Formed in 1990 in New York City by Detroit-bred brothers Richard and Ed Baluyut and Texan Fontaine Toups, Versus named themselves after Mission Of Burma’s debut album. After recording a few singles on various labels, Let’s Electrify! was self-released by the band on CD and was out-of-print shortly thereafter. It was the first and last release on their Remora imprint. This is the first time it will be available on vinyl and the first time in 28 years that it will be available on any format.The six-song Let’s Electrify is their debut and was released September of 1993 just eight months before their stellar debut album, The Stars Are Insane. This is just as good and while it has six songs, it clocks in at a healthy 25 minutes. It was recorded by Adam Lasus (Yo La Tengo, Helium, Lilys). Remastered in 2021 by Scott Anthony of Storybook Sound. This marks a return to the Teen-Beat label for the band after stints with Merge and Caroline. The original line up is still together together and still based in New York. They released a new album in 2019 on the Ernest Jennings label. They will be playing live shows in the future when conditions allow.

Over 25 years gone and their highly sought after and revered album Life.Love.Regret. is still considered an influential landmark for the genre and one that still continually shows up on current playlists. This is the first time vinyl has been available since a 20th anniversary pressing was made in 2014 (which sold out immediately).

From the very beginning, Turning Point was unique and not what you’d expect from a hardcore band. They expanded on the sounds of bands like Youth OF Today and Chain OF Strength, and brought in more melody while taking inspiration from 7 Seconds to push more emotion in their lyrics. Their impact was immediate. Originally released in 1990 on hardcore powerhouse NEW AGE Records, It’s Always Darkest… Before The Dawn, would be Turning Point’s only full-length. While the band only existed for a very short time, over 30 years later, its influence is still being felt. Rampaging D-beat hardcore punk, Stockholm’s Totalitär are one of the longest running and most renowned classic Swedish hardcore bands from the 1980’s, with almost twenty releases since their beginnings in 1985. Respected for their challenging political lyrics, Integrity and continual inventive spins on a brutal and straightforward formula of rock-driven, blasting hardcore. After a series of Farewell shows in Sweden and in the U.S. in 2003, Totalitar decided to do one final recording and album- Vi Ar Eliten (We are the Elite) which features seventeen rock-hard tracks. A combustive steamroller of their trademark desperate angry vocals, pounding rhythm section and searing guitar leads, their third full length album is one of their finest. Mastered at Fantasy Studios. This repress is true to the original pressing, 1500 Pressed at RTI from the original Plates mastered in 2007 by George Horn. Originally released by the Norway Ramones fan club on cd only in 2004, this is the first time on vinyl for the hardest to find of all Ramones cover albums, recorded twenty years ago by a short lived spin off project from members of The Yum Yums and the Kwyet Kings. The second full-length release from one of Orange County’s most beloved hardcore bands. You Don’t Have To Be Blood To Be Family originally came out as the band was gaining massive momentum. The rising popularity of what became “metalcore” combined with a relentless touring schedule lent itself to the band eventually jumping to that next level. In 2021, there was a limited, 20th Anniversary pressing of this album on vinyl that was sold as a mail-order only item. This pressing marks the first time since the original 2001 pressing that this record has been available to stores and distros. The members from this line-up will be playing a one-off show (at least for now) this summer in California at Indecision Records 30th Anniversary show.

After spending 6 years on a shitty pop-punk train, and releasing tons of records, THE Vapids bunkered down and emerged with Charm School Dropouts. A giant kick in the ass to everything that was going on at the time. Originally released on CD in 2001, SKR pressed the first (terrible looking) vinyl version in 2008, and now, a proper and sonically ferocious repress in 2020!
