It features an essay curated by photographer Stefano Lemon who explored the last punk communities based in South Florida at notorious venues such as La Rosas, Churchill’s Pub, Space Mountain and The Gramps in Miami, Respectable Street in West Palm Beach, Beer Punx in Fort Lauderdale, Lozer Lounge in Pompano Beach. Poignant black and white photography, transformed by the hands of the legendary American graphic artist Zach Hobbs. Hobbs created an iconoclastic collage where the eucharistic adoration is matched with the holy rituality of moshing. A timeless punk, without sex gender nor race, perched on a tower of beer protected by blood, sweat, chains and loud prayers raged against gentrification.

Over the past four decades, the Pacific Northwest has been responsible for producing a specific sound and mindset that has permeated throughout hardcore. This tradition has been passed down the upper echelon of Interstate 5 by bands such as Brotherhood, Undertow, and Trial. The tradition has endured in modern times, but has not seen a worthy predecessor since the youth-crew revival of the mid-2000s. Enact is a straightedge hardcore band from Portland, Oregon, who have taken up the mantle of continuing the area’s legacy with veteran members of the West Coast hardcore scene whos contributions include bands like Blue Monday, GET THE Most, Cutting Through, Dying FOR IT, Dance FOR Destruction, and Xcauterizex. On the record, the Pacific Northwest tradition can be heard in guitarist Kyle’s songwriting, which can be attributed to his tenure in the area; however, Enact draws influence from the Revelation Records/1980s hardcore scene through bands like Bold and Judge, with the refreshing melodic elements found in bands like Burn and Turning Point. The lyrics are channeled through the lens of singer Rikki’s lived experience as a Chicana and include ideas about straight edge as a catalyst for personal growth and healing from trauma, intersectional veganism, challenges to political apathy, and gun violence’s connection to toxic masculinity. The band and label are proud to release this crucial expression of radical politics and urgent ideals. I Know a Girl Who Develops Crime Scene Photos is the only proper full-length album from Tampa, Florida’s Combat Wounded Veteran. Recorded by Steve Heritage (assück) at Morrisound at the beginning of 1999, it was initially released via LP and CD formats from No Idea Records. In spite of being a staple in late 1990s/early 2000s power violence/short, fast, and loud DIY hardcore, both formats slipped out of print over the years. April 7, 2023, saw all I Know a Girl Who Develops Crime Scene Photos songs being formally reissued and made available for streaming and download platforms in an official capacity. The digital releases are part of a larger project, wherein Dark Operative will now be administering the band’s entire discography and reissuing all of the material in a series of vinyl releases in the months to come. This first reissue is but one of three 12”s to come.

They named themselves after Ken Russel’s legendary movie The Devils (1971).Their third album, Beast Must Regret Nothing (2021), was produced by Alain Johannes (qotsa, Them Crooked Vultures, Chris Cornell, PJ Harvey) and features Mark Lanegan on lead vocals for ‘Devil Whistle Don’t Sing.’ Their upcoming studio album still features the multifaceted musician Johannes in mixing, mastering, and performing guitar solos for ‘Horror and Desire.’Let The World Burn Down will drop via Go Down Records in February 2024. De Brassers were one of the most notorious bands in the Belgian new wave/punk history. With their no nonsense attitude they scared the shit out of the local catholic community of Hamont. De Brassers were a local mixture of the Sex Pistols (in the lowest gear) and Joy Division (they always performed a cover version of Joy Division’s Shadowplay), combining a criticism of bureaucracy and politics with experiences of psychological and existential tensions.

The doomed sound they produced channels the dark atmosphere of the late seventies and early eighties: the fear of atomic bombs, cold war pessimism, police violence against squatters, the first cases of Aids, and the grim years of Reagan & Thatcher.

This is an early live recording from the iconic Japanese noise band "Hijokaidan," also known as the "King of Noise," during their performance at the "Answer 81" event held in a venue called "Kyoto TakuTaku" in 1981. Free Cocaine traces the arc of that development, collecting singles, demo tracks, and other sessions from that time period, beginning with the Lucifer's Crank EP, and progressing onward. Most early tracks betray tremendous musical inadequacies -- at this point, the Dwarves were hardly the polished pop-punkers they would become by the time they signed to Epitaph. Nonetheless, even this raw material has plenty of catchiness, playing ability issues aside. The album also collects compilation cuts like "Lesbian Nun" from the Amrep compilation Dope, Guns, and Fucking in the Streets and singles all the way up through the late '90s on Man's Ruin. Though known primarily for their hard-living, and reckless violence at shows, with most sets clocking in under 20 minutes, the Dwarves, at this juncture, were the best in the underground rock world at what they did: cooking up fast-as-hell, catchy, raunchy hardcore punk. In the summer of 1982, an already burgeoning scene in Richmond, VA saw the arrival of some new blood in the form of Graven Image. Taking both inspiration and influence from the hardcore punk explosion that was well underway all over the world, these youngsters who met at a local skate ramp channeled their aggression through the no bullshit hardcore punk that they churned out in their few years of existence. Having shared the stage with a veritable who's who of punk at the time (Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Necros, C.O.C., Void, The Fu's, etc.) throughout the Mid-Atlantic, the band's explosive live performance fronted by the powerful and charismatic Dwayne Curd was evidence that they could hold their own when billed with the aforementioned titans of the genre. the Studio Sessions: '82-'83 features the entirety of GI's recorded studio output—first from the Your Skull Is My Bowl session circa fall of 1982 that became the extremely rare and sought after split tape with fellow local juvenile upstarts Honor Role, and lastly from the Kicked Out Of The Scene EP session that was recorded in 1983 and released the following year, plus some previously unreleased tracks from each of the studio outings that yielded these 22 tracks of Ushc fury! Carefully transferred and restored from the original reels, each record comes with a 12-page booklet chock full of photos, flyers and even some liner notes from guitarist Nick Smilek and drummer Joey Boisineau. Jesuit was a nefarious, mid-’90s, heavy band from Virginia Beach that released a small batch of demos, 7”s, and comp tracks while absolutely terrorizing and uprooting DIY hardcore shows around the country at the time. Upon dissolution, members went on to THE Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, OLD MAN Gloom, Doomriders, Cave IN, and Bleach Everything. This release is a reissue of the band’s entire discography, originally issued by Magic Bullet Records in 2011. It compiles the band’s 7” on Hydra Head, their cover of Black SABBATH’s “Hole In The Sky” from Hydra Head’s In These Black Days compilation series, the self-titled 7” on Reservoir Records, and the original self-released demo tape. All tracks were restored, remixed, and remastered by Kurt Ballou at GodCity Studio, where everything but the demo was originally recorded. The 2021 edition of the record features a new cover colorway, a translucent, hot pink LP, a clear 7” flexi with silver foil, and a giant fold-out poster that contains all lyrics, liner notes, and over 100 photos. Proceeds from this release will help fund public concrete skatepark additions and repairs.

If "Joy As An Act Of Resistance" was meant to detail the band's manifesto, the band's highly anticipated third album, "Ultra Mono," is the sound of IDLES heading to the front for these principles, ram in hand. Musically constructed to capture the feel of a hip-hop album (Kenny Beats has also participated in programming on several tracks) the songs have a double language, mixing vitriolic sneers with a direct social comment on the band's past work. Not far below the surface of the slogan they gave themselves, is a deeply complex and brutally relevant album that chews clichés and spits them out in the form of great art for the masses. Active presence and self-acceptance are also at the heart of "Ultra Mono" whose most songs were written in the recording studio, and the phrase "I am I" serves as a lyrical and spiritual mantra. Ultimately "Ultra Mono" is a celebration of the community, the one on which IDLES has been striving to build itself since its beginnings, to form something bigger than itself. As their audience grows, initially attracted by a sense of non-belonging, they create together a diverse congregation of people that offers each of them their place.
