Hypnotics were one of those amazing early 80s hardcore-punk bands from Long Beach, California who expertly channeled the guitar sounds of bands like Tsol and Angry Samoans and melded this buzzsaw sound with snotty, offensive lyrics. This reissue of their 1982 LP is not for the faint or the politically correct. Includes a 4-page booklet and "Filth" hype sticker on the polybag.

The second album. Super mix of punk/glam and sub-Kinks pop! On this album, they branched out from straight ahead punk rock and added a bit of glam while maintaining their snotty, melodic approach. It's a classic. Originally released in 1979.

If you mention Heresy's 'Face Up To It!' album many people will tell you what a great HC album it was but, let down by horrendous production. Now, 30 years since it was recorded, the band undertook a mammoth project to make the album finally sound how they had envisaged. The original multi track master tapes were unearthed and baked to allow a transfer of all the raw recorded material and for the band to do a total ground up restoration/remix on not only the original album, but also the rest of the session that included the bonus tracks originally only released on the Japanese version of the album 'Voice Your Opinion'. To say that the results have been remarkable would be an understatement and have exceeded the band's own expectations.

Rounding out the trilogy of 7"s that Hated released is the virtually unknown "4 Song EP" 7". The band had a slight lineup change, now featuring Chalmer from THE Vandals, and with it comes quite possibly Hated's best release. Quite possibly the best songs that Hated ever wrote, these songs feel much fuller and much more fleshed out. Hated created a sound that was all their own, merging the beach punk aesthetic with the emerging Ushc scene, but instead of sacrificing melody for speed, the band seamlessly blends the two into 4 perfect beach punk anthems. This is quite possibly the most underrated record in the Hated catalog, and it's probably their best!

A welcome re-issue of Government Issue's sixth studio album 'You'. Originally released in 1987 on Giant Records and hot off the heels of the previous year's self-titled album, 'You' was a turning point that saw the band moving in a more mature, melodic direction. Now, some 35 years later, 'You' is considered one of the scene's best albums - a game-changer that paved the way for a style that many bands would copy in subsequent years.

Originally released on Fountain Of Youth Records in 1986. You can thank the Doc for bringing it back to life! A more mature sounding G.I. on this one that still pleases the diehard fan as well as those leaning toward Fugazi or later Dischord label releases. “Excellent production and melodic punk tunes are the hallmark here, and while you can still pick out that DC sound, they’ve broadened to reach back to punk roots, as well as even earlier, all without losing that oomph or character of their presentation.” – Tim Yohannan, MAXIMUM ROCKANDROLL

“In November of 1982, I went into the studio with Government Issue to record what was to be their first full-length album. Up until that time, they had only released the Legless Bull 7-inch EP, and the tape they recorded early 1982 would take over a year and a half to be released as the Make An Effort 7-inch EP. The members of G.I. excelled at driving each other crazy and there was a lot of arguing, but still we had a great session at Inner Ear and we managed to track 20 songs in one day. From the beginning the band had been divided on what to record, and it was only after much debate that they decided to leave off the material they had recorded with the earlier line-ups and only put out 10 new songs. In early 1983 Dischord was strapped for cash, meaning that we could only work on one release at a time. Since all of our money was tied up with the manufacturing of Minor Threat’s Out of Step 12-inch EP, the G.I. record would have to wait. A new DC label, Fountain of Youth expressed an interest in releasing Boycott Stabb, so it was decided to do a ‘split-label’ record. In this case, Fountain of Youth put up the money and we let them use the Dischord Records name to help with context and distribution. It has since been reissued on a number of different labels and formats, but after coming across the master tapes and hearing the songs that had been left off, we thought it would be cool to release the complete session, and to fi nally release the record on Dischord proper. In going through the tapes, I discovered that most of the outtake songs were never mixed, so earlier this year I took the recordings back into the studio. Hearing the separated tracks amazed me. Such great playing and songs! With the technological advances in the recording world making multi-tracking and overdubbing so common, it’s easy to forget that studios could also be used as something more akin to a photo-booth, capturing what was happening at that very moment. Most of the early Dischord sessions were essentially ‘live’ recordings, so the bands had to be able to play, and because the budgets were minuscule, they had to get the songs down in short order. G.I. stepped up on both counts.”—Ian MacKaye, August 2010.

Born out of the ashes of Alternative TV, The Good Missionaries embodied Mark Perry's new and advanced Experimental-Post-Punk vision. Avoiding all kinds of average Rock cliches, Perry got more and more deeply into an uncompromised form of music. A totally new area where his solid Punk roots were confronted by a more free, radical approach to the sound material. During their lifetime The Good Missionaries toured and gigged with other distinctive, unconventional bands such as The Fall, The Pop Group, Crass, Scritti Politti... Recorded live on their 1979 tour, Fire from Heaven comes as tangible proof of the band's explosive energy on stage. An infectious mix of electric noise, raw grooves, space, and resolute Punk attitude. This brand new, digitally remastered edition comes as the first vinyl reissue since its 1979 original release. Don't miss it!!!

In between the charting debut LP City Baby Attacked By Rats and the acclaimed follow-up, City Baby’s Revenge, the independent Clay Records gathered all their Charged G.B.H. singles for the shocking compilation, Leather Bristles No Survivors And Sick Boys, capturing their versatility, as well as their shit-on-you attitude. The anti-war ‘Generals’ is an early classic, ‘Necrophilia’ tests the limits via an ironic salute to copulating with corpses and there are plenty of other shock-value moments, all delivered with their trademark blend of hardcore, metal, angst, rage and humour. Essential!

After the chart-topping debut City Baby Attacked By Rats, Birmingham ‘uk82’ punk pioneers Charged G.B.H. cut City Baby’s Revenge, their second release for Clay Records, and even though a mere year had passed, City Baby’s Revenge showed significant progression, Jock’s guitar more obviously inspired by metal, the lyrics more explicit and the sound even rawer than before. With a cool take of the Stooges’ ‘I Feel Alright’ and the reggae/rockabilly-esque ‘Skanga,’ this acclaimed winner is the LP that broke the band in the USA and is arguably the best they ever recorded required listening for the band’s devotees and all fans of metal-edged hardcore.

Totally mindblowing CONFUSE/KURO/G.I.S.M.- styled madness, originally issued in 1985 on the legendary Dogma label from Japan. One of Metallica's Kirk Hammet personal faves. In the words of Septic Death's singer Pushead, as published back then in MRR: "Raging speedcore thrusts out pile-driving chaotic leads and maniac raspy vocals, whose style is unique and adds character to the Gastunk sound. Fast, maniac slices with some interspeed variations make this one of the hottest Japanese LPs since GISM."

Street punk pioneers Charged G.B.H. formed in Birmingham in 1978, the name referencing original bassist Sean McCarthy’s trial for grievous bodily harm. The in-your-face hardcore of EP “Leather, Bristles, Studs And Acne,” paved the way for super-charged debut LP, City Baby Attacked By Rats, which hit the number two position on the British indie charts on release in 1982, as well as the mainstream top 20, despite being released by tiny independent, Clay Records. With a touch of Motorhead and Sabbath beneath their straight-up hardcore, City Baby is where the legend begins, capturing G.B.H. at their bloodiest.

Friction is one of the first Japanese punk bands and formed by Reck, Chiko Hige and Lapis in Tokyo in March 1978, and now the band is still keeping active. Reck and Chiko Hige had previously been on the NY no wave scene as founding members of James Chance and the Contortions, and brought back the experience and influence to the Japanese music scene. It's no exaggeration to say that the band laid the foundation for alternative music in Japan. P-vine is proud of reissuing all of their albums on vinyl.

Originally released in 1979 on their own Disposable Records, this record was the brainchild of John Irvine in the UK. The record was pressed in a tiny edition, was played on John Peel several times and vanished without a trace. An excellent example of the UK DIY scene of the time later popularized on the Messthetics compilation series. It ranks number 12 in the top 100 DIY singles list that ran in Ugly Things issue #78. We’ve repressed it in an edition of 400 on red, purple, double mint green and olive green vinyl.

Pressed in an ultra limited number of 200 back in 1980. Ervin Berlin was the work of Ervin Shuemake (a late 20s acid rocker) and two young punks named Jeff and TOM THE Bomb. Ervin had cut his teeth playing guitar on the crazy Terry Brooks "strange" Translucent World LP back in 1973 and spent the remainder of the 70s in various acid, hard, and prog rock bands throughout Central Florida. He met the younger punk duo of Jeff and "The Bomb" at end of 79 beginning of 80 and decided to take a stab at the punk craze with his two new acquaintances. Soon the trio was at a country and western studio in Winter Haven recording the Ervin Berlin single between sessions for possible Bellamy Brothers tracks. The blending of Ervin's acid rock chops and Jeff and Tom's thuggish punk approach resulted in this KBD space punk stomper. Equal parts Blue Cheer, Debris, Sacramento's Ozzie, and late 70s Hawkind. The 7" was pressed, a few house parties were played, and all parties went separate ways. 42 years later we are kicking off Total Punk Archives with a reissue of this lost Orlando classic. 100% Total Punk!!

Emerging from the northern market town of Grantham in the early 1980s, English Dogs reached the punk spotlight opening for Charged GBH and Discharge. Debut album Invasion of the Porky Men features the band’s original line-up, with drummer Andrew Pinching, bassist Mark ‘Wattie’ Watson, guitarist John Murray and vocalist Pete ‘Wakey’ Wakefield, the hardcore focus very different from the metal direction they would take after Wakey moved on and Gizz Butt added his guitar pyrotechnics. This debut disc is a must for all UK hardcore fanatics, who like their punk delivered in raw, unadorned thrash mode.

Hailing from the former northern mining town of Wigan, between Manchester and Liverpool, the short-lived Electro Hippies were a band like no other, saluted as icons of crust punk and proto-grindcore. Following some cassette demos, a shared LP with Newcastle’s Generic and a Peel session, debut LP The Only Good Punk…Is A Dead One surfaced on Peaceville with twenty songs, all clocking in at under two minutes (around half being less than 60 seconds). Highly political, deeply ironic, and with a snatch of Black Sabbath in the mix, The Only Good Punk is the band at their blistering best, the peak that preceded their ultimate downfall.

It’s 1980 in Orange County, California, and Punk Rock has been scorching the ‘burbs for a few years. Eddie Joseph has been on the Southern California scene the entire time, plotting his poisonous rock’n’roll maneuvers since the mid 1960s when he began playing in garage bands. Eddie had been honing his skills on roots music and swinging teenbeat well in advance of his foray into a new, seedy, violent punk blitzkrieg. There’s a master plan at work here, and it involves select players depending on which direction Eddie needs to bleed out of his system. The recruitment of Mike Patton and Matt Simon of OC legends THE Middle Class get Eddie AND THE Subtitles rolling for a slew of shows with comrades Black Flag, Adolescents, Circle Jerks and every other degenerate crew in the radius. A DIY imprint called No Label Records is formed (with literally NO Labels on the vinyl!) and the first single “Fuck You Eddie!” is unleashed. Recorded in Fullerton by JON ST. James at his legendary Casbah studio (The Vandals, Social Distortion, Berlin), these sessions also yielded a handful of tracks that would appear on the exceedingly rare Skeletons In The Closet LP (No Label Records, 1981). “Zombie Drug Killers,” “No Virgins In Hollywood,” and “American Society” (the short fast loud version covered by L7) appear here as the opening trio on this newly re-sequenced reissue. Geza X is also on board to produce a handful of tracks with peripheral Subtitles including Nicky Beat (germs, Weirdos) among the sessions’ players. The results here are another manifestation of Eddie’s one true love. Even as a punk allegiant, songwriting, sound and style are the priority. The dusted and dark goth-pop of “Magic” and “Stream of Consciousness” are crucial to the plot, setting a unique tone that works in a sea of one-dimensional scene releases, taking full advantage of Geza’s synth-mimicking microtonal guitar techniques. A tribute to Dave Dacron, chief miscreant of Dangerhouse Records’ Rhino 39 is also set to tape as consolation to X, as Dacron’s 16 year old life was tragically cut short in an automobile accident in 1980. But the party rocks on with covers of “Louie Louie” (also appearing on the elusive Fuck You Eddie! single) and “We Gotta Get Out of This Place,” as a testament to Eddie’s obsession with the timeless now-sounds of his delinquent adolescence. Friends and fellow freaks JON Blair (of surf cats JON AND THE Nightriders) and Bobby Paine (later of rockabilly hepsters THE Paine Brothers) lend their own song-smithery for four more originals: “Boppin’ Little Bobcat, ”“Treat me Right,” “Gina” (covered in 1984 by Josie Cotton and again in ‘89 by Stray Cats) and “Your Head’s In The Right Place,” respectively. Skeletons In The Closet remains an unusual and rare artifact in the ashtray world of punk, DIY and outsider music, and Slovenly Recordings is blasted to present it to the world one more time.

Formed in early stages of the British punk explosion by four high school mates in Finchley, north London, Eater quickly established themselves as one of the youngest and rawest bands on the scene. Inspired by a line in the T Rex song, “Suneye,” Eater was influenced by the classier side of glam rock but was very much a rapid-fire power-punk concern with their own output. Signing to Dave Goodman’s fledgling punk imprint, The Label, Eater issued three singles before their greatly anticipated debut album, which has since been hailed as an all-time classic; pointing their fingers at upper-class twits and taking the piss out of themselves and their fans on “No Brains,” the album also features two Velvet Underground covers and an unusual David Bowie adaptation, all delivered in no-holds-barred triple time. Poster included.

Debut EP Temptations Of A White Collar Worker sold 14,000 copies in short shrift, paving the way for the dynamite LP Further Temptations, the sole long-player they managed before splitting in the mid-1980s. Bristol Punk Pioneers Disorder formed around 1980, during the second wave of UK punk rock. Their approach to DIY ethics was so deep that they decided not to sign to Riot City, but to create a label of their own, for a bunch of classic singles the average distortion level of which led BBC DJ John Peel to describe Disorder as sounding like "shit". In fact, unlike many contemporaries like Crass or Conflict, Disorder showed no ambitions in stylistic experimentation: their debut LP 'Under The Scalpel Blade' is one blast after the other of pure rage, packaged in two-minute bursts of hyper-speed drumming, distorted guitars, and screaming vocals. Limited edition of 500 copies on burgundy vinyl, remastered audio and double-sided lyric insert.

Dicks’ debut LP has been acknowledged as a foundational statement in Punk ever since its initial 1983 release. Following their first single, 1980’s “Dicks Hate The Police,” and a live split with fellow Austinites the Big Boys, Kill From The Heart does not disappoint. Originally released on SST, the album stands apart from the mass of generic thrash-hardcore contemporaries— fueled by the manic, but controlled power of singer Gary Floyd along with the original lineup of guitarist Glen Taylor, bassist Buxf Parrot and drummer Pat Deason. Dicks were operating at an absolute peak at this point, alternating damaged workouts that suggest Flipper or No Trend on one end and highly charged tracks in the vein of Minutemen or Tales of Terror on the other. Straight out of the gate on “Anti Klan,” the band trades blues-grounded guitar with squealing feedback and intensely political lyrics. The raw emotional sincerity of Floyd, who was openly gay in Reagan-era Texas, provides unmistakeable urgency to songs such as “No Nazi’s Friend,” “Rich Daddy” and the title track, which remains one of the stone-cold classic punk anthems. Forty years on, Kill From The Heart continues to smolder—an arresting testament to the possibilities embodied in creative rage. It is no surprise that Dicks have been covered by Mudhoney, Jesus Lizard and more. Superior Viaduct is honored to present this truly essential reissue. Comes with original tracklist, insert and download card.

Death Sentence was certainly a band of its time as the looks of the boys suggest with their boots, studded jackets and spiky hair. The four songs on this Ep epitomize everything to love about that genre. It is fast and basic, it is sloppy, it is snottier than a six-year old on a rainy day, it is pissed, spontaneous and distorted.

Dead Kennedy's Frankenchrist Available Again On Vinylfrankenchrist Is The Third Album Released By The American Hardcore Punk Band Dead Kennedys In 1985 On Alternative Tentacles. The Album Is An Example Of The Progressive, Psychedelic Side Of Dead Kennedys' Musical Personality. The Spaghetti Western Soundtrack Influence Is Also Noticeable In The Horn Parts And In East Bay Ray's Atmospheric Guitar Work. Frankenchrist Is Noted For Its Relative Lack Of Traditionally 'Hardcore' Material. Most Of The Songs Are Slower And Longer Than The Majority Of Other Dead Kennedys Songs. "M.T.V. - Get Off The Air" Is Notable For Its Pointed Slam Of The Music Establishment And "Stars And Stripes Of Corruption" For Its Exegesis Of Vocalist Jello Biafra's Political Philosophies.

No Atlanta punk record from the 1980s creates such a lather as the debut single by DDT (except maybe Neon Christ's single, but I digress). Self released in 1983, merely finding a copy would put you into serious debt. That is, until now. Audio was restored by Jason NeSmith at Chase Park from a spotless copy of the record given to Chunklet by Joe Perry who recorded the single at his Bombay Studios in Smyrna. Never before reissued until right now. Get in on the ground floor of Atlanta's punk scene from 40 years ago

Lesser-known punk band Cyanide formed in the northern cathedral city of York in 1976, the four lads based at the Old Priory Youth Club. After cutting a couple of demos soon after their formation, in time the band’s reputation was such that they were playing the Roxy in London and during their rapid ascent, the quartet managed to score a contract with major label Pye for their self-titled debut album, recorded in December 1976 and produced by Ron O’Shea, who ironically got his start with orchestral easy listening. A fun set of tongue-in-cheek first-wave punk originals, the album also includes a spirited cover version of The Who’s ‘I’m A Boy.’

Formed in Santa Monica in 1984 by guitarist Les Evans, drummer Scott Peterson and bassist Adam Scott—soon replaced by Rob Nicholson, who joined after singer Bill Crooks arrived, metalcore pioneers Cryptic Slaughter gained an early reputation as one of the fastest of all west coast hardcore bands. Following the success of Convicted and Money Talks, Stream Of Consciousness is the last album to feature the original line-up, the band having broken up prior to its release; with multiple tempo changes on each song, this is the group at their inventive peak, prior to the regrouping that brought a more concerted metal direction. A milestone in the history of crossover thrash.

Join The Fight was their debut EP as well as the first release for up-and-coming West Coast hardcore label New Beginning Records (underdog, Halfoff, P.H.C.), recorded in late 1985 and released in 1986. The legend of Crime looms large among punk aficionados the world over. Formed in the mid-1970s, the band's dual-guitar sound, confrontational image and sleazed methodology still serve as inspiration decades later. With only a handful of singles released during their active lifespan, Crime's legacy grew significantly as archival recordings began to trickle out in the early 1990s. Of all these excavations, San Francisco's Doomed was one of the first and certainly one of the most powerful. Culled from 1978-79 studio demos and rehearsal tapes, San Francisco's Doomed captures the frenzy of Crime's sound in a fittingly loose, devil-may-care framework. Side one is a gloriously unpolished assault of classic, gutter-level punk with vicious live set staples like "Feel The Beat" and "Piss On Your Dog" taking marquee placement over the more well-known singles tracks. Side two finds Crime taking aim at the so-called New Wave, augmenting their attack with ripped odes that bear the direct influence of science fiction and rockabilly on the group. Few recordings from US punk's first wave match the raw intensity heard on San Francisco's Doomed. As Michael Stewart Foley writes in the liner notes, "Unimpressed with the once idealistic counter-culture and all the bands associated with it, Crime declared itself San Francisco's First And Only Rock 'N' Roll Band. Dressed in police uniforms and driving sonic ice picks through listeners' eardrums with the volume cranked past 10, they looked more like a street gang that might take your wallet and slash your face with a switchblade just to watch you bleed. But despite the band's best efforts to stand apart, Crime could have come from nowhere else, at no other time."

Crass' fifth album comes in the original fold-out poster sleeve. Originally released in April of 1983, Yes Sir, I Will was a howl full of vicious rage and fury, a scream of sorrow, a bitter requiem of betrayal and disenfranchisement. It was a letter-bomb of accusations directed at the British establishment, with it's title taken from a conversation between the then Prince Charles and gruesomely wounded veteran Simon Weston. Musically the work is as diverse and challenging as Crass had yet delivered—a raging and almost free-form improvised backdrop over which Steve Ignorant, EVE Libertine & JOY DE Vivre trade off vocally throughout—veering from ferocious roars and rants to piano ballad interludes sung by Penny Rimbaud.

The Feeding of the 5000 is the first album by the anarcho-punk band Crass. The album was recorded on 29 October 1978, by John Loder at Southern Studios and was released the same year. It was considered revolutionary in its time due to what was considered an extreme sound, frequently profane lyrical content and the anarchist political ideals in the lyrics. This album is considered one of the first punk albums to expound serious anarchist philosophies.

"Stations of the Crass is the second album by Crass, released in 1979. The record, originally released as a double 12", includes live tracks from a gig recorded at the Pied Bull pub in Islington, London, on August 7, 1979. The first three sides contain the studio tracks and play at 45 rpm, while the final side comprises the live material and plays at 33 rpm. The album's title is not only a pun on the Catholic rite of the Stations of the Cross (such jibes against the religious establishment were typical of Crass), but is also a reference to the graffiti campaign that the band had been conducting around London's underground railway system, the cover artwork depicting a wall at Bond Street tube station that had allegedly been 'decorated' by them. Although the album met mixed critical reception at first, it managed to sell at least 20,000 copies within two weeks.”

Remastered and reissued vinyl version of what should've been one of the first 10 records you ever bought. Named as a reference to some of Freud's ideas concerning sexuality, this release marked something of a departure from the somewhat macho, hardcore punk image that The Feeding of the 5000 & Stations of the Crass had given the group. Featuring more obviously complex musical arrangements, this release showcases exclusively female vocals provided by EVE Libertine and JOY DE Vivre. The album addressed feminist issues and once again attacked the institutions of "the system" such as marriage and sexual repression.

Best Before 1984 is a compilation of Crass' singles and other tracks, released in 1986, including lyrics and a booklet ('...In Which Crass Voluntarily 'Blow Their Own'") which details the history of the band in their own words. The album was named in reference to the notion that 1984 was the band's 'sell by date', the year that they had often publicly stated that they would split up. Indeed, the band ceased gigging and recording in that year. For many years, there were plans to release an expanded edition of Best Before 1984, which will include currently unavailable material (such as the 'Merry Crassmas' and 'Whodunnit?' singles) and rarities, in the same vein as the 'Crassical Collection' re-releases of the band's albums. These plans finally came to fruition in 2019, with the announcement of an expanded two-disc version of the album."

Released in 1983 on London's Legendary Mortarhate label, Conflict's debut broke all rules in punk rock, setting new standards and storming independent charts, reaching and retaining position number 1 for several weeks. Formed in 1981 and led by vocalist Colin Jerwood, who would remain one of the group's few constants throughout its 30 years of existence, and fueled by hatred for the media, the military and the general status quo of late century Thatcher's England, Conflict has been a stainless model for three generation of peace punkers, activists and anarchists from all over the world.
