This very personal take on the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" from 1983 is one of the most iconic and sought-after records from the early years of Spanish punk music. This short-life band led by girls made an historical appearance on Spanish TV that generated an unprecedented media, and even legal, uproar. Available again after 15 years out of print with its original artwork and including a poster of the band.On the morning of Saturday, April 16, 1983, the Spanish television show "Caja de Ritmos" aired the video 'Me gusta ser una zorra', a personal adaptation of The Stooges' classic 'I Wanna Be Your Dog', by the Basque punk band Vulpes. The media, and even legal, uproar that their television appearance generated had unprecedented consequences in the entire history of TVE (Spanish National Television), including the resignation of the program's director.Taking advantage of the notoriety achieved by the band, Dos Rombos -an independent Spanish label- would materialize the release of the single, previously modifying the name of the group by adding a final 'S' that would only increase the controversy: Vulpess.Closely watched by the police and beset by far-right violence, the gigs to present the single frequently ended in incidents. The story of this pioneering band, led by girls (Loles Vázquez on guitar, Estíbaliz Markiegui on vocals, Ruth Astigarraga -former member of N-634- on bass and Bernardo Vázquez -from M.C.D.- on drums; as well as Lupe Vázquez and Mamen Rodrigo), would soon come to an end, elevating the Vulpess to the category of myth, and their only proper release of the early 80s becoming a sought-after collector's item, and an icon of the early years of punk music sung in Spanish and an icon of a historical period in which Spain was moving towards full democracy, getting over last vestiges of the still recent dictatorship.

Dating back to the year 2000 and out of print now for 20 years, this is the Groovie GhoulieS sixth official full-length studio LP… this would be the last album that the GhoulieS would record for the once popular, now defunct, Lookout! Records. Travels With My Amp! packs a few of the Groovie GhoulieS’ biggest hits: “The Highwayman” and “Bye Bye Brain,” along with perennial fan favorites “Hair Of Gold (And Skin Of Blue),” “(The Girl Is) An Unsolved Mystery,” and “Ghoulie Family.” The band returned for the third time to Sonic Iguana Studios in Lafayette, Indiana to have producer Mass Giorgini at the helm. The line-up consists of Kepi on vocals, Roach on guitar, B-Face on bass, and Amy on drums. The sessions were successful and the record was well received, but within a year the mismanagement of the label forced them to jump ship, and the GhoulieS, who did indeed love to travel, continued touring and found new homes for their new recordings.

Water Machine is an office romance between Hando Morice (they/them), Flore de Hoog (she/her), Jimmy Gage (he/him) and Goda Ilgauskaitė (she/her). An unassuming supergroup formed out of Glasgow institutions including Goth GF, Passion Pusher, Brenda and Soursob, their sound careens between punk, country and alt-rock underpinned by the unique quality they call “Raw Liquid Power”.

Following last year’s self-titled demo tape on Gold Mold Records, and fresh off of shows with the likes of Holiday Ghosts, The Cool Greenhouse and The Orielles, as well as a rollicking Viagra Boys afterparty, the four-piece will release their highly-anticipated first studio effort ‘Raw Liquid Power’ on Upset The Rhythm on August 4th.

The EP opens with a menacing, modulating synth melody. Gage’s guitar enters with a mighty bend before breaking into the chugging rhythm of ‘Water Machine Pt. 2’. This timely reminder to refill your water bottle - “don’t be late, hydrate!” less a wellness mantra than a threat - builds to a spacey outro with flashes of the art-punk weirdness of Suburban Lawns. ‘Stilettos’ marches on indignantly with a spiky riff punctuated by Ilgauskaitė’s cowbells. Staccato talk-singing tells a playful tale of stray cats following you home, but belies a darker subtext as the breakdown gives way to paranoid duelling guitars evoking The Fire Engines.

The anti-anthem ‘At the Drive In’ skewers joyless DIY crowds, reminiscent of much-missed Glasgow punks Breakfast Muff. Water Machine’s irrepressible sincerity can’t help but shine through in the final moments though, as jibes about “late night trade potential” give way to plaintive vocal harmonies. Morice tears public transport a new one on closer ‘Bussy’, a First Bus diss track bemoaning precarious employment amidst crumbling infrastructure. “That’s why I’m not on time!” they roar over de Hoog’s frantic, pounding bass, bringing the record to a skidding, screeching halt.

Pressure Pin is a project that essentially came out of nowhere, from one Kenny Smith, the drummer of the new disco-art punk group La Sécurité. As Pressure Pin, his debut EP, Superficial Feature, is a four-song practice of art-punk and post-hardcore new wave and it’s frenetically mesmerizing. It’s a bit Squid and New Fries and I was hooked right as the weird pitch guitar and thick bass picked up on the opening track 'A New Movie.' The switch between the almost depressing robotic vocals and hysterical screams is lightning in a bottle. The mixing is also fantastic with a cacophony of horns under scratchy chugging guitars. The vocals also come off as public advisory statements as in 'Complete Impulse Directive,' where Smith categorizes exactly what is wrong with society, rhyming in prose that seems like a pure stream of consciousness with a surreal agitated edge. Darkness is falling. A cold wind blows from the snow-covered Carpathians, making the windows rattle and the corners of the house creak. Something is coming, eyes flashing red in the night and its footprints filled with grave dirt. What nocturnal terror is this? Why, it’s the arrival of the long-awaited third album by The Coffinshakers, folks.

While most bands quickly lose the spark, The Coffinshakers have stayed relevant – eternal like the undead. Though humor is their hallmark, there is also poignancy and something genuinely spine-tingling in their rugged, melancholy ballads. And this new offering shows them at the height of their baleful, campy power. They truly are a band that ages like fine wine – although vampires, of course, never drink… wine.

Much will be familiar to dedicated fans. Rob’s trademark malevolent chuckles still reverberate with sardonic glee, the deep rumble of his voice continuing to send all yellow-bellies hiding behind the barn. At the same time, his vocals have gained in both power and subtleness. The same goes for the guitar, bass, and drum work, now incorporating a broader array of classic Americana influences. These unholy badmen have drunk the blood straight from the neck of the authentic country, bluegrass, folk and other rootsy music of inbred US backwaters – and it has made their fangs sharper than ever.

And though The Coffinshakers still ride forth with tongue firmly planted in cheek, there is a new apocalyptic urgency to their third offering. From the marching drums of the desolate “Graves, Release Your Dead” to the echoing vocals of “River of Souls” and the cathartic cataclysm of “Down in Flames”, it all forebodes the imminent end of the whole dirty enchilada of existence. The band’s flippancy comes with a genuinely unsettling kernel of darkness – and black humor is always the most satisfying. Vampires may not cry, but we all know they laugh wickedly as they rise from the bone orchard.

Now, many moons since they last haunted the earthly domain, the hour has come for another foray into the realm of the living. Legendary Finnish hardcore punk band Bastards’ discography to be released in a glorious box set in December

Bastards was one of the first Finnish hardcore punk bands coming from Finland in the early 80’s. The band released three albums between 1982-1983: Harhaa (1982, originally only on cassette tape), Järjetön maailma (1983) and Siberian Hardcore (1983). Propaganda Records, the oracle of its time, released the Maailma palaa ja kuolee EP when the band was still active, and some single tracks also appeared on Finnish and international compilations.

Bastards gained international attention and were the first Finnish hardcore band to tour Europe, yet they still ended up quitting the band in December 1983 after just a few active years. Svart Records have now put together all the recorded material by Bastards. Arctic Hardcore – Complete Studio Recordings & Rare Rehearsal Tapes -box set was done as a tight co-operation between the record company and members of the band. The nearly four-hour long compilation contains 136 songs, of which fifty are never released versions or completely unheard material, until now. The box set also contains a thick booklet with the band’s history, lyrics, complete song information and a lot of photos from the band’s active years.

Their self titled debut album hit No.5 in the Independent Chart and No.1 in the Punk Chart when first released on (the highly collectable) No Future Records back in 1983. Police Story is an extended edition of their debut album accompanied with additional tracks from the Police Story / Killing Machine 7" (1981) and 17 Years Of Hell EP (1982).

Confuse was a noise punk hardcore band that started in Kyushu, Japan. They released a few records ("Indignation", "Nuclear Addicts", "Contempt For The Authority And Take Off The Lie", "Atrocious madness", and "Stupid Life") throughout the time they were around. They started off with a really raw noise Discharge type style and then evolved into a bouncier, more melodic sound. Awesomely weirdly produced noise thrash that just tears out your eardrums. Julian Isaacs aka Auntie Pus, made a bet with his childhood friend Chris Millar (Rat Scabies of The Damned) that one of them would have a top ten record within 3 years. He of course lost that bet in less than a year as The Damned took the world by storm. Isaacs carried on with his own brand of punk and Syd Barrett inspired songs, playing with the best of the first wave of UK punk bands, and becoming frequent tour partners of bands like The Damned and The Ruts. In 1978 he finally recorded a single, featuring Rat Scabies on drums, which was eventually released with some help from the Ruts management, and did make not just into the weekly top 10 in Sounds, but "Single of the Week", and in a top 10 in Record Mirror when the Damned were pulling the reigns that week. Since then, the single has become a staple of conversations covering under the radar 70s UK DIY punk and "messthetics" type singles. This 7" is a deluxe edition with an unreleased track, artwork faithful to the original, with an accompanying insert that includes an in depth interview which should be fascinating to any fan of 70s UK punk, or fans of the Damned, photos, and more.
