For over 30 years, THE Slackers have remained one of the most prolific musical combos in the game. In the course of drawing from a seemingly endless well of songwriting creativity, the band has released music on some of the biggest labels in independent music, as well as on much smaller boutique ska & reggae labels across the entire world, including NYC’s Special Potato, which has served as home to many of the band’s home-brew releases over the decades. 2008’s Self Medication LP was one of the latter releases, initially released on CD through Indication Records, and a single pressing on black vinyl from Special Potato/ Indication. The record has been out of print for the ensuing 15 years and a tragically overlooked chapter in the band’s history. In the spirit of the title, Self Medication reflects the band’s DIY roots. Recorded by a longtime friend of the band, King Django (skinnerbox, Stubborn All-stars), at New Brunswick, New Jersey’s Version City Studios, this record is primarily an in-house affair, with overdubs overseen by singer/multi-instrumentalist Vic Ruggiero & guitarist Agent Jay Nugent at their own Studio Slack & Crazy Baldhead Studios, respectively. The sound of this record is that of a band who have the talent and the confidence to chart their course. Experimenting with a diverse sonic palette including elements of ska, reggae, swing, rock, and a lot of psychedelia, that nevertheless feels distinctly and unmistakably like them. And, of course, the band’s combination of earnest humanity and wry humor shines through in the lyrics, right from the opening line, “Every day is Sunday when you’re unemployed…” Indeed, this is the sound of THE Slackers as dictated by THE Slackers.

Water Machine is an office romance between Hando Morice (they/them), Flore de Hoog (she/her), Jimmy Gage (he/him) and Goda Ilgauskaitė (she/her). An unassuming supergroup formed out of Glasgow institutions including Goth GF, Passion Pusher, Brenda and Soursob, their sound careens between punk, country and alt-rock underpinned by the unique quality they call “Raw Liquid Power”.

Following last year’s self-titled demo tape on Gold Mold Records, and fresh off of shows with the likes of Holiday Ghosts, The Cool Greenhouse and The Orielles, as well as a rollicking Viagra Boys afterparty, the four-piece will release their highly-anticipated first studio effort ‘Raw Liquid Power’ on Upset The Rhythm on August 4th.

The EP opens with a menacing, modulating synth melody. Gage’s guitar enters with a mighty bend before breaking into the chugging rhythm of ‘Water Machine Pt. 2’. This timely reminder to refill your water bottle - “don’t be late, hydrate!” less a wellness mantra than a threat - builds to a spacey outro with flashes of the art-punk weirdness of Suburban Lawns. ‘Stilettos’ marches on indignantly with a spiky riff punctuated by Ilgauskaitė’s cowbells. Staccato talk-singing tells a playful tale of stray cats following you home, but belies a darker subtext as the breakdown gives way to paranoid duelling guitars evoking The Fire Engines.

The anti-anthem ‘At the Drive In’ skewers joyless DIY crowds, reminiscent of much-missed Glasgow punks Breakfast Muff. Water Machine’s irrepressible sincerity can’t help but shine through in the final moments though, as jibes about “late night trade potential” give way to plaintive vocal harmonies. Morice tears public transport a new one on closer ‘Bussy’, a First Bus diss track bemoaning precarious employment amidst crumbling infrastructure. “That’s why I’m not on time!” they roar over de Hoog’s frantic, pounding bass, bringing the record to a skidding, screeching halt.

Pressure Pin is a project that essentially came out of nowhere, from one Kenny Smith, the drummer of the new disco-art punk group La Sécurité. As Pressure Pin, his debut EP, Superficial Feature, is a four-song practice of art-punk and post-hardcore new wave and it’s frenetically mesmerizing. It’s a bit Squid and New Fries and I was hooked right as the weird pitch guitar and thick bass picked up on the opening track 'A New Movie.' The switch between the almost depressing robotic vocals and hysterical screams is lightning in a bottle. The mixing is also fantastic with a cacophony of horns under scratchy chugging guitars. The vocals also come off as public advisory statements as in 'Complete Impulse Directive,' where Smith categorizes exactly what is wrong with society, rhyming in prose that seems like a pure stream of consciousness with a surreal agitated edge. When The Steves' two extremely limited (maybe 100-200 of each?) EPs were released back in 1980 and '81 respectively, the squares around Harvard's newsroom were aghast at the audacity of this group. Having the stones to release such crudely-rhythmic, near mechanical and downright terse tunes in the day's often long winded prog rockin' ballad heavy radio reality that were too robotic to be “punk” and too unruly to be anything but was, to say the least, a bold move. Sure to cause an uproar in the halls, protests in the classroom and uninvited dancing in the streets! In the annals of New England's rock journalism, there is not a mountain of coverage on The Steves, certainly not as much as the Alan Parsons Project or Aerosmith, but the fact remains that they were a fully charged powder keg of raw energy and new musical direction that seemed to elude most of the world back then. Not to say they didn't get any light shone on them, they did get a fair amount of airplay on the college stations around Boston and even appeared on the cover of Boston Rock magazine. It is Iron Lung Records' distinct pleasure to offer the modern world a new chance to discover the ever vital and effervescent music of The Steves' initial EPs along with a third EP of songs never released on vinyl until now that were recorded at the time or shortly after the initial sessions. A true synth-punk/KBD treasure. Obscurity is for suckers. Let's get shakin'! 700 copies of each EP on black 70gr vinyl housed in a 12pt reverse board glue pocket sleeve with faithful reproductions of the original art. Originally produced by V. Child Abuse recorded three demos in Los Angeles in 1977. This band was a pre-SIMPLETONES (of "I Like Drugs" Posh Boy fame) band with almost identical members including JAY Lansford, who went on to also be in the Stepmothers, Channel Three, and Gigantor. These three songs were only released in 2005 on a limited 12" out of Germany and now all three demo tracks have been remastered for this 7-inch 45rpm! Includes an insert with reminisces of the band including the time Darby Crash (Gerns) stole their bass amp from the Canterbury apartments.

This very personal take on the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" from 1983 is one of the most iconic and sought-after records from the early years of Spanish punk music. This short-life band led by girls made an historical appearance on Spanish TV that generated an unprecedented media, and even legal, uproar. Available again after 15 years out of print with its original artwork and including a poster of the band.On the morning of Saturday, April 16, 1983, the Spanish television show "Caja de Ritmos" aired the video 'Me gusta ser una zorra', a personal adaptation of The Stooges' classic 'I Wanna Be Your Dog', by the Basque punk band Vulpes. The media, and even legal, uproar that their television appearance generated had unprecedented consequences in the entire history of TVE (Spanish National Television), including the resignation of the program's director.Taking advantage of the notoriety achieved by the band, Dos Rombos -an independent Spanish label- would materialize the release of the single, previously modifying the name of the group by adding a final 'S' that would only increase the controversy: Vulpess.Closely watched by the police and beset by far-right violence, the gigs to present the single frequently ended in incidents. The story of this pioneering band, led by girls (Loles Vázquez on guitar, Estíbaliz Markiegui on vocals, Ruth Astigarraga -former member of N-634- on bass and Bernardo Vázquez -from M.C.D.- on drums; as well as Lupe Vázquez and Mamen Rodrigo), would soon come to an end, elevating the Vulpess to the category of myth, and their only proper release of the early 80s becoming a sought-after collector's item, and an icon of the early years of punk music sung in Spanish and an icon of a historical period in which Spain was moving towards full democracy, getting over last vestiges of the still recent dictatorship.

Julian Isaacs aka Auntie Pus, made a bet with his childhood friend Chris Millar (Rat Scabies of The Damned) that one of them would have a top ten record within 3 years. He of course lost that bet in less than a year as The Damned took the world by storm. Isaacs carried on with his own brand of punk and Syd Barrett inspired songs, playing with the best of the first wave of UK punk bands, and becoming frequent tour partners of bands like The Damned and The Ruts. In 1978 he finally recorded a single, featuring Rat Scabies on drums, which was eventually released with some help from the Ruts management, and did make not just into the weekly top 10 in Sounds, but "Single of the Week", and in a top 10 in Record Mirror when the Damned were pulling the reigns that week. Since then, the single has become a staple of conversations covering under the radar 70s UK DIY punk and "messthetics" type singles. This 7" is a deluxe edition with an unreleased track, artwork faithful to the original, with an accompanying insert that includes an in depth interview which should be fascinating to any fan of 70s UK punk, or fans of the Damned, photos, and more.

limited edition single on randomly shipped Colored Vinyl. 300 copies on pink and 300 copies on clear vinyl, shipped randomly.1977. The band had been together for a few months, and we had some songs roughly worked out. I had managed to arrange a meeting with Miles Copeland (manager of the Police), and he wanted us to bring a demo tape. We didn't have much money, but I found a very cheap studio in Hayes in Middlesex, which we booked for two hours.At that point I didn't have my own amp but the man at the studio said not to worry because he had a great Fender amp which was all set up and ready to go. The studio was a very small, converted building in a back garden, it was a tight fit, and the Fender amp was actually a miniscule combo amp, with a very clean sound. It was a million miles from the overdriven noise I was looking for. Also, there was no proper headphone mix and I had to play guitar in the tiny "control room" to avoid sound spillage. This meant I could only vaguely hear the rest of the band.We quickly ran through our three songs. The man thought we were playing so fast because we were nervous, he wasn't aware of punk rock yet. I told him it was meant to be like that. All three songs were recorded and mixed within the two hours.The following week myself and Esso took the tube up to Oxford Street for our meeting with Miles Copeland. He had a good listen to the three songs and appeared unshocked. He was well aware that punk was "happening" so he was friendly and took us seriously. He was mainly interested in what our ambitions for the band were, we should have said "we wanna be worldwide stars," or something like that but we didn't.

Skingraft was a band from Rochester, New York who made jarring, technical, irregular death metal. Three teenagers who spent the frigid, upstate winters mastering arcane scales and double bass patterns, their elaborate, dynamic songs pair howls and blast beats with brooding, minor-key melodies and deviant rhythms. Picture the bludgeon of Entombed's "Left Hand Path," the shattered glass frequencies of Godflesh's "Streetcleaner," and the destabilization of "Remain Sedate" by Roschach. Skingraft recorded these two songs at Rochester's famed Dajhelon Studios during their junior year of high school. Released on the 30th anniversary of this recording session, this 7-inch is the first time these songs have been made publicly available. Guitarist MAT Colbert went on to play in Blurring, Kalibas and Humiliating Moan. Drummer Andy Meyering is a member of Further Damage. Limited edition of 300 copies on colored vinyl. Cover art is silkscreened onto handmade paper stock jackets made from pulped bibles. For every seven copies of Skingraft made, on bible was removed from this world. Includes an insert.

THE Vacant LOT are a first wave punk band from Canberra that released one lone EP in 1981 on the Thought Criminals’ label, Doublethink Records. They played a few gigs and broke up shortly after. What they left behind was a bit of a head scratcher for most with two songs of rough and tumble KBD / MurderPunk / proto-hardcore and two songs of pulsing, keyboard driven post-punk in the Wire Chairs Missing vein that once sold out, sort of faded into obscurity. Now with a 2022 remaster from Mikey Young and a renewed vigor for creative activity since 2014, Living Underground finally gets the proper reissue treatment. Faithfully and lovingly recreated to be exactly the same as the elusive original issue.

Sorry State's 2023 pressing aims to replicate the original look and feel of the original as closely as possible, with an offset-printed sleeve on legal size paper.
