Originally, a flat bucket made of military fabric was purchased at a flea market in the United Kingdom, which, according to the seller, served soldiers as an outdoor shower tray. A few years later, when talking about a pet bed at Puebco, this item served as inspiration to create their own design. The fabric was reused from tents that the military had discarded. After Puebco secured it with ropes and sewed it together, it was washed to look like worn old jeans. Puebco had several animals sleep in the experimental product, and they seemed very comfortable.

In northern India, where a big military base is located, surplus items are commonly distributed to the surrounding cities. Green for jungle, beige for desert, white for snowy mountains, different colors of fabric for different battle fields are gathered for wholesale and it grabbed Puebco designers' heart to see so many layers of fabric piled up. Workers over there wear some of the surplus items without caring about its original purpose. For the Old Tent Mat Fabric Hook Basket, a large tent was washed, then cut carefully to avoid the metal eyelets and windows. Sometimes divided pieces of fabric were sewn together to make a big piece. There is an interesting story behind the Marble Bowl from Puebco. Puebco actually wanted to manufacture new tableware, but in the end it became a bowl for animal feed. Puebco visited a factory in India that made bowls for various scientific experiments. They prided themselves on making bowls that could not break under any circumstances. When Puebco announced that they didn't need a bowl, but an outer mold to make a bowl, the manager of the factory seemed reluctant. Puebco found marble waste not far from the factory and decided to scrap the original idea and use this material instead. When the process was completed, the bowl was very heavy. The guys at Puebco purchased big parachute fabric that's not being used for its original purpose anymore. It’s distinctively lightweight and strong. Although it’s hard to tell because they look similar, there are two types of fabrics combined: rip-stop fabric with threads woven in a lattice pattern to prevent tearing and a plain weave non-slip fabric. Handles made from dead stock or used industrial belts were used as inspiration to develop several of the Puebco items available. The materials were discovered in a town in India. Puebco visited a small specialty shop where fabrics were piled up close to the ceiling in an area where surplus military items were commonly distributed. There was no space where is filled with fabrics even for a footstep which led the Puebco guys to doubt whether it should be called a store or not. Led by a clerk in the shop, they climbed up on the huge mountains of fabric. The Puebco dudes kept moving forward, pushing fabrics aside that were not quite right until they found exactly what they had hoped for. Because they fought for hours as if exploring a cave, this material deserves Puebco's deep attachment which cannot be expressed in words.
