Yakul are James Berkeley (vocals and keys), Tom Caldwell-Nichols (bass), Sam Hughes (drums) and Leo Utton (guitar). Based out of Brighton and part of the UK's resurgent jazz and soul movement, the band marry introspective lyrics with deep grooves and jazz infused progressions, blending a range of styles into a sound they call “Future Soul”. Their collaborative works with London beatmaker edbl were also great, so they have become a topic of conversation among music fans not only in Europe but also around the world. P-vine is proud to propose a unique best-of album with a selection of the best songs that this contemporary soul band, which made its debut in 2017, has brought to the world!

Many jazz listeners may not be familiar with the group name "The Three of Us. This was another name used by jazz keyboardist Hilton Felton, a familiar name to rare groove collectors, when he released this groovy soul-jazz album in 1971. The album was pressed in very small numbers at the time, and is now known as sought-after vinyl that is traded with such high prices on the second-hand vinyl market. The songs are performed in a trio formation with Joe Harris (bass) and Johnathan Setell (drums), with Hilton's sophisticated touch coloring the mellow feeling and deep grooves. This is the first time reissued on vinyl!

The sole album released in 1974 from this almighty group of nine musicians lead by Chicago native Danny Leake continues to turn up in the hands of the most determined collectors for good reason. Formed in the most unlikely of circumstances as a group of American military workers stationed in Germany, the band made one dazzling leap onto the frontline of soul before promptly disbanding and never looking back. As with all records that get marked with the coveted 'rare' status, what we don't know about the record outweighs what we do, but as the needle fits the groove on album opener "You Keep Coming Back," and the vocal and instrumental harmonies build into a frenzy, the addictive joy of the record takes hold for repeated listens. P-vine is delighted to be bringing this album back from the vaults for a limited pressing fitted with a unique Japanese obi strip.

After the opener rich with soul, "No More City, No More Country" changes pace with a psychedelic funk jam that blossoms into a piece of spiritual jazz and social commentary of 70s America. "Windy C" is an album highlight and kicks off the B-side with a lost funk classic where the individual talents of Steve Maxwell's organ playing, Leake's guitar and John Jackson's percussion all combine to make the deftest of touches count. The wealth of compositional talent behind the album contributes to its varied sound, and the might behind Marvin Daniels' vocals and trumpet playing joins Leake on the songwriting credits with producer Rick Hartung. Leake would later make his name as the trusted sound engineer of Stevie Wonder, but his roots as the mythical bandleader of 100% Pure Poison lives on in the books of rare record folklore.

Originally released in 1975, Norwegian jazz singer Karin Krog’s We Could Be Flying has long been called an underrated masterpiece. Although Krog is listed as the sole leader on the album, pianist Steve Kuhn’s presence is felt throughout. Composing four out of nine tunes and playing on all nine, the New York pianist’s brand of mellow jazz is on full display from beginning to end. Album opener and title track “We Could Be Love” sets the tone for the record, as spiritual chimes and rolling piano arpeggios make way for a gentle groove, over which Krog’s vocals soar. “The Meaning of Love” is a Kuhn composition, and sees the pianist take an understated, yet fantastic solo. However, the true highlights are the bass playing from Steve Swallow and drumming from John Christensen. The two are perfectly locked in, and you can practically imagine the two of them locking eyes as they create a rhythmic bedrock. The cover of Joni Mitchell’s “All I Want”, is another highlight of the record, with 70’s sensibilities oozing from practically every aspect of the performance. Despite that, the track has aged well, and perfectly shows the interplay between Krog and the immensely talented rhythm section. That’s not to say that the rest of the record is lacking in any way. From the loungey interpretation of Carla Bley’s “Sing Me Softly Of The Blues”, to the danceable samba-inspired “Raindrops, Raindrops” and “Hold Out Your Hand”, fans of all kinds of jazz are sure to be delighted from beginning to end. Reissued on vinyl with an obi-strip for the first time ever, this record is a must-have for any jazz fan!

With original pressings selling for over half a thousand dollars, Upward Bound, the sole album from Chicago large-format funk group Starvue, is surely on any collector’s grail list. The mellow groove of “Body Fusion” has captured the hearts of DJs and listeners alike, with our very own 7” single selling out almost instantly! From energetic disco-boogie, to slow dancers; the Earth, Wind & Fire inspired sound of Starvue is quite simply amazing. “Put The BS Aside” (also featured on our aforementioned 7”) is another perfect example of the Stavue sound, with mid-tempo dance grooves and vocal harmonies even the most critical of listeners won’t be able to find fault with. The mysterious sci-fi cover artwork only adds to the allure of this rare album; the reissue of which is going to be available on limited edition vinyl, with an obi-strip attached, only from P-vine Records!

Hilton Felton is a keyboardist with a strong following amongst rare groove fans for his sophisticated, mellow and groovy playing. He has released many albums during his career on his own label, Hilton's Concept, Inc. and Family And Friends This is the first time that P-vine has reissued this gem, which is sought after by many collectors due to the excellence of the music and the rarity of the record.

For this reissue, all tracks have been given state-of-the-art mastering. There are numerous cover versions of the Jackson 5's well-known hit 'Never Can Say Goodbye' (m3), but it is safe to say that this version by Hilton Felton is by far the best quality. Also impressive is the jazz-funk cover of the Delfonics classic 'La, La Means I Love You' (m5), including the opening track 'Family And Friends' (m1), which enjoys a superb groove created by Hilton's soft playing. The original compositions will satisfy even the most demanding jazz listener. The groovy soul of 'The Power Of Love (It's In My Heart)' (m8), featuring vocals from a young Angela Winbush and Hilton Felton themselves, is also a wonderful performance that offers great depth of sound.

The 7" set also includes 'The Power Of Love (It's In My Heart)', which has never been released as a single, and 'Spreading Fever (Part 1)', the original version of which is very rare and almost impossible to find!

Otis Rush, a giant of modern blues! Capturing the explosive blues of Otis Rush in the 1950’s, this LP compiles the 16 songs he released as singles from Cobra Records!

Rush’s stirring baritone. His slow-burning left-handed guitar playing. The backing band, in lockstep with Rush. It’s almost too much to handle! One listen is all you need to know why Rush is considered a master of low and slow blues! Songs such as “Double Trouble” and “All Your Love (I Miss Loving)”, composed by Rush and recorded for Cobra, are now considered blues standards, and listening to these recordings, it’s clear why. “Laid off and I’m having double trouble”, Rush belts after a slow burning guitar solo intro; and in that moment, you’ll be washed over by every ounce of feeling that he pours into his singing. It’s almost too much!

If you’re not gonna listen to this, what are you gonna listen to? The definitive compilation of Otis Rush’s Cobra singles, now with an obi-strip, Groaning The Blues will have you moaning and groaning!

Only a year after their collaboration with Fred Firth, Totsuzen Danball teamed up with English saxophonist Lol Coxhill to record this monster of an album! Reissued on analog vinyl for the first time ever!

Without DAWs and online file sharing (or really, the concept of online), Totsuzen Danball and Coxhill painstakingly sent each other tapes, overdubbing repeatedly to make the off-kilter rock and roll you hear on this album. Immediately, you can tell that every second of effort was worth it. The opening track “Moyou” (lit. pattern) is oddly charming, with a bouncing bassline, motorik-esque drum beat, and lyrics about being on all-fours at a pedestrian crossing. But Coxhill’s improvisations bring the song to another level, and as he squeaks notes out over a repeating guitar riff, you won’t be able to stop yourself from nodding your head.

Totsuzen Danball classic “Natsu wa Kagerou” (Also included on their first album, Can I?) also takes on a new dimension of freakiness when played with Coxhill, whose free improvisations seem to soar over the simple beat and vocals from Totsuzen Danball. Combined, they create a sound that is both pop and avant-garde, if only in spirit.

Reissued on analog vinyl for the first time ever, the collaboration between Totsuzen Danball and Lol Coxhill is new wave, avant-garde, and everything in between!

The combined powers of Fred Firth (ex. Henry Cow) and Totsuzen Danball! Originally released on cassette in 1982, the collaborative album is getting its first release on vinyl!

The first album from Totsuzen Danball, Can I? (1981) made waves with its experimental new wave sound, and the band suddenly found themselves with more overseas fans than they knew what to do with. Chief among them was Fred Frith, guitarist and co-founder of British art-rock group Henry Cow, who played with Totsuzen Danball during what was no doubt a legendary live show at Shinjuku Loft on July 23rd 1981. The recording from that night, originally released on cassette from Totsuzen Danball’s own label Floor - is finally getting an analog release! Listen as the sounds, and occasional noises, of two guitars, a pump organ, and drums intermingle to create something that’s never been heard before or since!

The long awaited reissue! A classic “If you know you know” for collectors, this private press record rarely even makes its way to the second hand market, but fetches jaw-dropping prices when it does!

Recorded quietly in Minneapolis in 1977, the sole album from singer-songwriter and producer Ernie Story is one of the finest examples of the musical territory where AOR meets Modern Soul. Mellow grooves are a-plenty, but the occasional touch of gospel is what takes it up a notch.

Story’s experience providing songs for The Impressions, Curtis Mayfield, and The Chi-Lites should be proof enough that these songs are of the highest quality. But put down your needle and take one listen to the staccato rhythm guitar and wildly percussive beat of “disco City” and you won’t have any doubts! Or perhaps the acoustic instrumental number “The E Groove” is more your style. Maybe even the softly psychedelic band and soulful vocals of “Chain Gang” is what gets you going. Across nine tracks, Ernie Story never slows down, with fantastic songs from beginning to end. P-vine is proud to be giving Meditation Blue its first ever reissue, now complete with an obi-strip!

Originally released in 1975, the sole album from Indianapolis funk undectet (11 people!) Turner Bros. is filled to the brim with phat grooves and soulful vocals. As the name would imply, the Turner siblings (there are six of them in the group) form the foundation of the group, writing many of the songs with an impeccable ear for catchy hooks and danceable grooves. From mellow soul numbers (“Every Time I’m Near You”) to high-octane instrumental funk (“Please the People”), the Turner Bros. do it all! With members ranging in age from 12 to 27, it seems unlikely that this group could even exist - much less put out a funk gem like Act 1. Yet, the Turner Bros. defy expectations at every turn, with every song showing off a new facet of the Indianapolis group. Reissued for the first time ever with the original artwork, and a Japanese obi-strip, this record has never looked this good! Make sure to get yours now, only from P-vine Records!

Originally released in 1981, the sole album from Alabama modern-soul group Piranha, Headed In The Right Direction, typifies the life cycle of many rare groove records. Recorded and pressed by an obscure local band, a lack of proper distribution and industry insight led to the album being relegated to attics and record store crates; until collectors began to notice that it had some of the tightest grooves ever! Once a Japanese disc guide picked it up, the record’s fate was sealed. Little information about the members of Piranha is available, besides that they hail from Alabama. But put your needle to the wax, and you’ll have all of the information you need! Opening track “Good Time Lady” is an upbeat funk tune, staccato guitars, a driving bassline, and some of the best horn lines written in the last fifty years. A-side closer “(Get Up) Let Your Feelings Show” and B-side opener “One Sided Love” are both playful dance numbers, with the perfect combination of 80’s flair and earnestness to bring a smile to your face. Close your eyes, and you can practically see the members of Piranha dancing in the Earth, Wind, and Fire-esque outfits they’ve adorned on the cover of the album. Pressed on limited edition black vinyl with an obi-strip, the sole album from Piranha, Headed In The Right Direction is 7 tracks of pure modern soul!

“My name is Stan. I’m a soul man, but I’m gonna sing the blues”, growls Stan Mosely on “Blues Man”, the second track off of No Soul, No Blues. You thought you knew the blues? You haven’t heard anything until you’ve heard No Soul, No Blues!

Hailing from the modern day Chitlin Circuit, the down and dirty soul blues of Stan Mosely is as real as real gets. Armed with a brawny baritone and a closet full of rhinestone encrusted jackets, Stan Mosely has been one of the hottest attractions on the modern day Chitlin’ Circuit for over half a century. With nearly a dozen albums under his belt, Stan is a true veteran, and with the kind of charisma and energy he has, it’s a shock he doesn’t have more! Even just listening to No Soul, No Blues, it’s immediately obvious that Stan is of the highest echelon of singers, successfully translating his invigorating live performances to studio sessions.

But don’t take my word for it! Set to be featured on the cover of Living Blues Magazine’s December issue, the magazine has long praised Stan, with a longform interview in the issue further highlighting Stan and his dazzling music. The founders of P-vine (and two of the men most knowledgeable about blues in Japan) themselves have called the music of Stan Mosely the best that blues has to offer right now!

Pressed on limited edition vinyl with an obi-strip, No Soul, No Blues is sure to be one of the hottest blues records of the year - nay, the century! If I was you, I’d get my copy while I can, because these are going to be flying off the shelves!

Taiwan meets Pittsburg! Chien Chien Lu is the Taiwanese vibraphonist whose debut album, “The Path” made huge waves in 2020 with a Downbeat critics poll naming her the “vibraphone rising star”. Richie Goods is the award-winning bassist, whose incredible talent and experience playing with international stars such as Alicia Keys and Common, has secured him a position as the youngest musician to ever be inducted into Philadelphia’s Jazz Hall of Fame. The two meet in an explosion of talent on their newest LP, “Connected”; also featuring a host of talented musicians such as Sy Smith (vo.), David Frasier Jr. (ds), and Bigyuki (pf.).

The album was born from conversations held during lockdown, where Lu and Goods, both residing in New York, contemplated their roots and the connotations a global pandemic, and social movement were making apparent. Despite the often heavy subject matter that inspired it, the music is light and groovy, with the two leaders shared love for 90s R&B and soul apparent throughout. Lead single “Rain” is a cover of the classic track by SWV (which itself sampled Jaco Pastorius’s “Portrait Of Tracy”), and where SWV’s version was all laid-back drum beats and thinly-veiled innuendos, Goods and Lu’s version is forward-thinking jazz; with atmospheric chords, and what may just be one of Lu’s best solos ever. Opener “Water/H2O”, featuring acclaimed R&B singer Sy Smith takes that a step further, with Smith’s soulful vocals perfectly complementing a jazz band at the height of their powers.

Don’t miss what’s sure to be one of the hottest jazz records of the year, complete with an obi-strip, only from P-vine Records!

Produced by Hawaiian AOR legend Kirk Thompson (of Kalapana and Lemuria fame) singer-songwriter Babadu’s sole album is mellow Hawaiian soul from start to finish.

The 1970s saw the birth of Contemporary Hawaiian music, a genre inspired by the popular sounds of the mainland US, but with a distinct, Hawaiian feeling. Perhaps the most popular form of Contemporary Hawaiian music was Hawaiian AOR. It makes sense - mellow grooves and laid-back bass lines seem perfect for the pristine beaches of Waikiki; yet the genre would take off, gaining popularity in lands as far away as Japan.

Babadu! is firmly in the tradition of Hawaiian AOR, with the vocals of Babadu himself resting perfectly atop backing tracks that perfectly meld the sounds of the island with mainland yacht rock. Album opener “We’re Not To Blame” is a perfect example, with tropical flutes practically dancing over Babadu’s soulful vocals and a groove that’ll have anybody nodding their head. With Kirk Thompson of Kalapana handling production, arranging and keyboards - much like he did for Hawaiian AOR legends Lemuria, the album sounds simply sublime. Reissued with an obi-strip for the first time ever, with the handsome face of Babadu himself adorning the cover, you already know you’re in for a soulful, good time with this album.

Forget the magician! Featuring Michael Orr front and center in all of his 70s slickness : Love Will Rise!

Best known for his work with soul diva FAY, as well as his iconic, and incredibly rare 1976 album Spread Love (see above), Michael Orr’s talents seem immeasurable. Backed by his hometown band, Book of Life, the two combine in a funky explosion the likes of which hasn’t been seen since! Crate diggers will recognize the name of album closer “Spread Love” from Orr's 1976 album of the same name, yet this is a somehow even funkier recording of the same tune, with a leaner groove and harder beat. Danceable funk has always been Orr's speciality, but he seems to turn the dial up to 11 with this interpretation.

The other side of the Michael Orr coin is title track “Love Will Rise”. With smooth grooves, gentle drumming, and the ever present baritone of Michael Orr himself, the song is a relaxed affair, calling to mind the preacher-esque photo of Orr on the cover. As slick and soulful as it is, the grooves remain unparalleled, unifying the album in a strangely poetic way. Don’t miss Michael Orr and The Book of Life’s Love Will Rise, available on limited edition vinyl with a Japanese obi-strip attached!

Have you seen this wizard?

Initially released from Detroit label Sunstar in 1976, the duo album from bassist Carey Harris and vocalist/keyboardist Michael Orr has quickly gained a reputation, not just for the distinct, hand-drawn magician on the cover, but for its incredible sound. The title-track “Spread Love” is beloved by deep funk DJs such as Kenny Dope and Keb Darge (so much so that they reissued it as a single on their label, Kay Dee Records), and rightly so! The song is chock full of slap bass, staccato guitar rhythms, space age synth - all the hallmarks of great funk. Combined with the brawny baritone of Michael Orr, this is one of funk’s finest songs. Yet songs such as album opener “Ecstasy, Fantasy, and Dreamland” and “Here I Go” feature the smooth sounds of modern soul, with keyboard riffs twinkling over sophisticated syncopated rhythms. The two meld together through the course of the album, creating a project that is, simply put : magical. Don’t miss this iconic album, available now from P-vine Records on limited edition vinyl with one of our iconic obi-strips attached!

The first ever vinyl reissue of Chicago’s very own chorus group The Next Movement’s self-titled debut, is getting its long-awaited release!

“What’s the next move?” was supposedly something that the fledgling Next Movement was asked so frequently (due to their incredibly smooth dance moves), they decided to take their name from it. Although they made a name for themselves performing for Oprah Winfrey and rowdy Las Vegas crowds, their self-titled debut album - the sole full length effort from the group - predates that fame, initially being released through GEC in 1980. Album opener “You’re The One” is a funky dance tune, complete with slap bass, wah’d out guitars, and iconic 80s synth sounds. In comparison, A-side closer “Kid Stuff” is a soul ballad, deeply groovy, but tinged with a hint of melancholy. All of this is tied together by the group’s impeccable vocal harmonies, truly reflecting the immense talent found in these Chicago crooners! P-vine is thrilled to be reissuing the Next Movement’s self-titled debut on limited edition vinyl with an obi-strip for the first time ever!

Originally recorded in 1977 by a small battalion of teenagers (there were supposedly upwards of ten members) Gonna Get Your Cherry was Groove Diggers’ inaugural release in 2006! Is the title immature? Perhaps. But there’s nothing immature about the 11 tracks of soulful, danceable funk that the album is made up of. From album opener “Can’t Hide the Funk”, the skill of these young players is on immediate display, with vocal harmonies and a rhythm section so tight you could mistake them for performers twice their age. Title track “Gonna Get Your Cherry” follows, with a beat so groovy even thinking about the song will have you tapping your foot. “Instrumental Soul” is - as described - some of the finest instrumental soul-funk this side of Chicago, with a fiery saxophone solo and staccato guitar strumming that’ll have you dancing in no time.

In comparison, B-side opener “Living In Style” and “Who Wants To Fall In Love” are subdued affairs, with female vocalists and a backing chorus giving space for the Washington Jamb Band’s more soulful side to shine. Including the never before reissued (on vinyl) track “In The Clouds”, two boogie-esque bonus tracks, and an obi-strip, this is the finest reissue to ever hit the market! Formed around the singular talent that was Patti Hamilton, Chicago teen soul trio, The Lovelites, released one album - With Love from The Lovelites - before disbanding. Their sole album, initially a commercial failure, would become a crate digger classic, selling with several-hundred dollar premiums on the second hand market over half a century after its release. And it’s no wonder why - Patti Hamilton’s soulful voice sounds wise beyond her years, and the trio’s angelic harmonies are backed by a full Chicago brass band. With the deft hand of Clarence Johnson (best known for his production of Brighter Side of Darkness) producing, the harmonies are sweet, the band is tight, and the singular voice of Patti Hamilton shines through it all. The album that started it all! Spanky Wilson’s legendary debut from Mother’s Records saw Philadelphia’s soon to be soul diva teaming up with legendary producer/arranger H.B. Barnum to deliver a killer 11-track LP! From the opening notes of “You’re Gonna Miss Me”, to the final fading chimes of “The Last Day of Summer”, Spanky Wilson’s beautiful voice is always on full display. Despite the fullness of her voice, there’s a surprising tenderness - undercutting soulful funky numbers with an element of emotionality unlike anything her peers would ever put out. As Spanky’s voice soars, her backing band, at times as sparse as a single piano, and at times as full as a big band, is always tight, giving Spanky plenty of room to shine while showing off their own immense talents. Born in Dallas, Texas, Tommie Young started her musical journey in a church choir, singing her faith every sunday. It wasn’t until she began singing in night clubs that she caught the eye of Bobby Patterson, a record producer for Soul Power, a division of the fabled Jewel Records, through which she released ‘Do You Still Feel The Same Way’. Legend has it that she entered the studio and recorded every song in a single take; unleashing one powerful vocal performance after another, until the 11-track record was completed.

While tracks such as “Hit and Run Lover” saw some popularity in the 90’s soul scene, Young truly shines when she shows her gospel roots. Title track and album opener “Do You Still Feel The Same Way”, sees Young let loose, and her Aretha Franklin-esque gospel vocals soar to previously unknown heights. The O.V. Wright-penned “That’s How Strong My Love Is”, is a beautiful soul ballad, showing both the power and tenderness of Young’s voice; a full showcasing of her incredible talent.

Almost half a century after its initial release, the Southern Soul of Tommy Young still stands the test of time. Perhaps it’s the freshness that’s provided by single take recordings, or the genius of Patterson, but the album’s combination of gospel, funk, and soul remains a perfect encapsulation of 70s soul. Don’t miss this amazing reissue, available with an obi-strip on limited edition vinyl, only from P-vine Records!

This is what the people want! Often considered to be one of the rarest records of all time, original pressings have sold for over three thousand dollars on the second hand market, a record (no pun intended) regularly compared to the similarly ultra-rare ‘Help Us Spread The Message’ by The Mighty Ryeders. We’ve combined the LP with “World Full of People”, a killer track originally recorded by the band under the Everyday People moniker, to create the ultimate People’s Pleasure experience!

Opener and title track “Do You Hear Me Talking To You?” is a groovy, soulful explosion, with wah’d out guitars, a funky bassline, and 70s percussion forming the basis for the lovely twin harmonies of People’s Pleasure. A-side closer, “World Full of People”, is a mid-tempo dance classic, a track long popular with DJs from L.A. to London, to Tokyo. Album closer, “Fantasies and Dreams”, is a downtempo classic, with dreamy harmonies floating above a heavenly synthesizer. The record is often considered a grail for record collectors - nothing more than a fever dream for most - with appearances on the second hand market being few and far between. Composer and keyboardist Ricardo Marrero was a prominent figure in the New York Latin music scene during the 1960s and 70s. His debut album was released by TSG Records, and due to the label's characteristics, only a limited number of copies were manufactured. Originally released in 1974 on pioneering jazz label Strata-East, ‘The Sojourner’ by the incredible Ensemble al-Salaam would become one of the label’s most sought-after records. A highlight of the spiritual jazz movement, the record sees a band at the height of their powers, perfectly in sync as they express their spirituality through one ethereal groove after another. Album opener “Music is Nothing But a Prayer” sets the tone for the album, as gentle piano arpeggios, warm flute improvisations, and spacy guitar combine with the haunting vocals of Beatrice Parker to create a sonic atmosphere which seems to wash over you with every passing beat. The song picks up as a repeating bass riff emerges, with blaring saxophone improvisations contrasting with Parker’s clear vocals - yet nothing ever clashes. In comparison to the enveloping avant-jazz of “Music is Nothing But a Prayer”, “Malika” takes inspiration from late-career Coltrane, with sheets of sound-esque saxophone solos set to breakneck rhythms. “Peace (Salaam)” sees the group return to warm spiritual tones, complimenting a beautiful melody to bring the album to a close.

For years, the only way to get your hands on this record was to spend your entire life savings, or pray that you stumbled upon it at a yard sale. With our previous two pressings selling out almost immediately, we knew we had to give this legendary record a third pressing. P-vine is proud to be repressing this phenomenal album for the third time, now with a new and improved obi-strip!

The only album by the six-piece soul band led by the four Burton brothers, this album is known as the ultimate rare groove that any collector would want. Originally released in 1976 on the local Chicago label Stage Productions, original copies are rarely found on the second-hand market, and when they are, the selling price is always over Us$1000. The album itself continues to increase in value not only because of its rarity, but also because of its solid sound quality, especially the epic groovy funk ‘Open Soul’, which uses the entire B-side of the record and lasts over 20 minutes.

The Average Guys emerged during the golden age of R&B in the 1990s, a period that saw the rise of renowned R&B groups. Their only album release has since become highly sought after among collectors due to its rarity. Now, the elusive masterpiece "First Come, First Served" is being released for the first time on vinyl by P-vine.

Released in 1995, this album boasts production by Chad Hugo, a member of The Neptunes, the producer duo responsible for countless hits alongside Pharrell Williams. Tracks like "Ride" (a5), produced by Hugo, and "So Good" (b2), featuring a pre-debut Missy Elliott, showcase a musical quality that deserves more recognition. This album's value extends beyond its rarity; it's a work that should be appreciated for its musical merit as well.

"Isayahh Wuddha," an artist acclaimed for his unique dreamy funk sound crafted using cassette tape MTR, was none other than a personal project by musician Taku Hayashi residing in Kyoto. There is hardly anyone who would feel uneasy about his second album under the psychedelic project "ohhki", another activity of him, being released by P-vine. His music style, which shows no intention of conforming to mainstream music, is a strong expression filled with solid originality.

The songs recorded with analog equipment are treated with lo-fi sound production, successfully creating a unique pop world that delicately combines elements of psychedelia, dub, funk, and disco. While experiencing a sensation of floating gently in space, the undulations, akin to the brushstrokes of an impressionist painting layered with reverberations and echoes, are drawn onto the canvas of the sky along with the resonance of electric guitars, old keyboards resonating with cheap tones, and enchanting voices, accompanied by the repetitive beats of a drum machine. Beginning with an ode to birds, invoking surprises and casting small spells, after being struck by intense rain between night and dawn like a flowing stream, this world is embraced, lingering within me, entranced by the blues, and ending with "Well... just like a banana ripening... you're amusing." Simply there is light and the wind blows. It exists as literally alternative music, vividly presenting another world, rich in color.

The album vividly expresses the theme of life from 'Leaving' to 'Arriving' through expressive songs, and is a complete album in itself, not to mention the quality of each song.

Excavated from the halls of funk! A newly discovered live album from the late great Junie Morrison! 1975 was a transitional year for \former Ohio Players and future P-Funk keyboardist Junie Morrison. He had just left the former band after working on a trio of releases that would catapult the funk band to fame, and his burgeoning solo career was just beginning to take off. Recorded at Dooley’s in Lansing, Michigan, this live album was likely recorded just after his fantastic second solo album Freeze. This performance focuses on songs from Freeze, such as the incredibly groovy opening track “Junie II”. The rhythm section are perfectly at home in the pocket, with Junie’s keyboards and charismatic vocals floating effortlessly over horn rhythms. This is followed up by a medley of the Ohio Players’ best songs, “Pain; Cookies Will Get You; Please; Ecstasy” played at a breakneck tempo. Junie’s synthesizer lines are something of a forerunner to the cosmic funk he would play with Parliament, but hearing the Players’ iconic songs as a medley is enough to justify getting this record! Of course, don’t miss the covers of Aretha Franklin’s “Oh Me Oh My (I’m A Fool For You Baby)”, Diana Ross’s “Surrender”, and The Temptations’ “Shakey Ground”! This album, put on vinyl for the first time ever is a must-have for all fans of funk!

We’re not called Groove Diggers for nothing! This previously undiscovered live recording was first uncovered by the Groove Diggers team in 2004, and issued on a CD - it’s taken 18 years, but this essential live recording is finally getting an analog release!

Much like her studio album, “Portrait of a Gemini”, “Live” contains a collection of covers; from the Aretha Franklin penned “Day Dreaming”, to Marvin Gaye’s legendary “What’s Goin’ On”. A lesser singer may be intimated by the immensely popular songs, but Goodwin sounds as light as a feather, her iconic vocals soaring freely above the sparse sounds of the jazz trio backing her. What this record may lack in studio finesse, it more than makes up for in intimacy. The clinking of glasses, the chattering of the audience, the unplanned mmhmm’s of approval. Close your eyes and you’ll be able to picture the dark, smoky club in which this album was recorded.

This essential live album from Penny Goodwin is finally available on limited edition vinyl. With modern remastering and one of our iconic Obi-strips, this album has never looked or sounded better!

“What might’ve been, is dead and is done,” so begins the opening track on Penny Goodwin’s ‘Portrait of a Gemini’. The words are surprisingly somber for an album as beautiful as this, but oddly prophetic. Despite Goodwin’s unmistakable talent, her sole album “Portrait of a Gemini” only ever received a private pressing of 2000 copies, and she quickly faded into obscurity afterwards.

Yet, one listen is enough to make it immediately obvious why original pressings of this album have attracted expensive premiums. From the orchestral string arrangements on “Today Is The First Day”, to the heavenly Hammond organ playing on album closer, “Amazing Grace”, the immense talent of Goodwin and the musicians supporting her is constantly clear. Even when they take on covers of songs such as Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Goin On” and Gil Scott Heron’s “Lady Day & John Coltrane”, the singular voice of Goodwin seems to make the songs her own. Perhaps the greatest testament to this album’s timelessness is rapper and notorious crate digger, Tyler, the Creator’s sampling of the latin-jazz infused “Slow Hot Wind” on his most recent album.

Don’t miss this pinnacle of 70s soul, available for the first time in over a decade on limited edition vinyl, now with an iconic Japanese obi-strip!

South London’s hottest young producer, Ed Black, known around the world as edbl, has teamed up with session legend and Youtube guitar sensation (his cover of Just the Two of Us has amassed over 5.5 million views!) Kazuki Isogai to create the perfect modern soul album!

As the first chords on album opener “Worldwide” warble, and Kazuki’s twinkling guitar starts to play, you can almost picture the two musical masterminds sitting across from one another, smiling as they recognize a riff or chord shape. It’s almost impossible to imagine that this album was created by two musicians on opposite sides of the world, in the middle of a pandemic. Their chemistry is undeniable, as Kazuki’s jazzy, slinky guitar solos dance across beats created by the singular talent that is edbl.

Yet, tracks like “Lemon Squeezy” show just how adaptable Kazuki is, as he backs down, letting “Nostalgia” (from South London Sounds) vocalist Taura Lamb take the spotlight. A riff here, and a reverb-drenched lick there is enough to showcase Kazuki’s talent, elevating edbl’s mellow beats to a whole new level.

Kazuki’s sweet guitar, and edbl’s soulful, mellow beats. What more could you possibly want? Don’t miss the long-awaited collaboration between two of modern soul’s most talented musicians, available on limited edition vinyl, only from P-vine Records.

The music of instrumental-folk quartet NRQ seems to defy categorization. Drawing their influences from styles as disparate as free jazz, Chinese folk songs, Calypso music, and the music of the Appalachians, every song presents a new twist or turn, and every album succeeds in defying expectations. Their third album, ‘was here’ saw the band welcome trumpeter and steel pan player MC. sirafu (The Natsuyasumi Band, Kataomoi, etc.), keyboard player Emerson Murakami (mmm, Kisel, etc.), and percussionist Okyon to create a sound quite unlike anything else they’ve ever done. The album was recorded exclusively with vintage tape machines, and the result is a warm, analog sound, with just the barest amount of hiss gently enveloping each track. Combined with the oddly mesmerizing artwork, this album has been practically begging for an analog release. P-vine is proud to be giving ‘was here’ the analog treatment it has long deserved!

The finale to Spanky’s legendary trilogy with Mother’s Records : ‘Let it Be’! The record opens with the title track, transforming the Beatles’ classic into an energetic, but soulful hymn. Trumpets sound as Spanky lets her voice loose, heralding the beginning of what is no doubt one of the best soul records of all time! B-side opener and Simon & Garfunkel classic “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” takes a mellower approach, no less transformative than any of the other covers, but a testament to the tenderness that Spanky’s voice could take on. Spanky makes each song her own, delivering moving performances of classics such as Burt Bacharach’s “Alfie”, “Love or Let Me Be Lonely”, and “Loveland”! Half a century later, this album by Philadelphia Soul-sister Spanky Wilson sounds as fresh as the day it was recorded! The two emerging explorations of aquatic themes on 1989’s Les Nouvelles Musiques de Chambre Volume 2 were a unique insight into the respective compositional approaches of its two central figures. The split album featured the Italian composer Gigi Masin on side-a with delicate piano movements rippling above undulating electronics. Its second track ‘Clouds,’ has become an ambient standard with Bjork, Nujabes and cloud-rap duo Main Attrakionz all sampling its rich and euphoric tones.

Side-b belonged to Charles Hayward and the twenty three minute sound portrait ‘Thames Water Authority’. A founding member of post-punk and avant groups This Heat and Camberwell Now, Hayward’s natural inclination towards percussive instrumentation is highlighted by shape-shifting cymbal recordings that trace the expansive systems that meander beneath Greater London. The track later appeared on his tribute album to Mark Rothko, fusing its symmetry with artistic abstraction.

The Lewis Connection was a Soul / Funk band from Minneapolis whose self-titled LP may have been lost to the vaults were it not for their peculiar historical connection - the first appearance of Prince as a guest performer. The song in question, "Got To Be Something Here," features Prince on background vocals and guitar, but there's far more packed into this early record of what would become the signature Minneapolis funk sound. There's bustling energy across these tracks with enticing funk hooks, instrumental variety, and mood-heightening extended jams. Ordinarily, private press albums by groups of unknown musicians don’t make their way back into circulation - they are lost due to their inaccessibility for public consumption and routine home clearouts. Little is known about Four-Um, the group who released the covers album Just Us in 1972, other than their association with Buffalo, New York and their own short-lived label Libra 7 Records. Just Us, however, has clung onto record collector shelves owing to the creativity of its jazz and soul-packed interpretations of classic tracks, and its strong cult-following.

Be prepared to be surprised by the shape of these reimagined classics. Aretha Franklin’s 'Day Dreaming' with its lush vocal arrangements echoes through halls of reverb, and sounds spritely psychedelic. Simon & Garfunkel’s 'Scarborough Fair' is stretched over seven minutes with warm break-out organ solos. Other highlights include covers of The Spiral Staircase's 'More Today Than Yesterday' and Burt Bacharach’s 'What The World Needs Now'. P-vine is delighted to reissue Just Us on limited edition vinyl for the first time ever with an obi strip attached.

History tends to look back kindly on musicians unafraid to proudly wear their music on their sleeves. On the cover of their 1976 debut album The Ingram Kingdom, the members of Ingram stand united in front of a banner that reads "the funk is in our music," and the transfixing image of the cover flows deep in the body of the album’s audio landscape.

The title track opener further reinforces the foundations of the group's sanctuary with a sprawling funk jam; fit with crunching guitar solos and towering vocals. These moments of funk euphoria are matched evenly with pauses for thought and calm in the spacious soul ballads 'Tried It and Liked It' and 'She’s All Alone (I Need A Man)'. Hot on the heels of announcing a singles collection from the North Carolina funk and soul group, P-vine Records is proud to be repressing Brief Encounter’s debut album Introducing - The Brief Encounter for the first time in eleven years. A much-loved favourite among Rare Groove fans, this album was originally released in 1977 on Seventy Seven Records where it spent the better part of 30 years amassing untouchable prices on the second-hand market. With its first reissue in 2010, many fans were finally able to hop on board the pleasure-bound trip, and with those records now becoming a rarity, a second repress was always on the cards. Album opener “The Brief Encounter (introduction)” ignites the members with rallying vocals, and pacey percussive funk grooves that keeps spirits high and punctuate the album up until its joyous closer “We’re Gonna Have A Good Time”. It’s an album also unafraid to show tenderness at its core, and the soulful ballad arrangements of “Loving and Caring” and “In A Special Way” drops the tempo for a mid-album masterstroke of dynamics. As before, this reissue will come fitted with a unique Japanese obi strip.
