The new release of Rap Kayou song series presentedby P-Vine! Kayou (KayouKyoku) franklymeans pop songs in Japanese, and are songs mainly from 70's~90's Japan. P-vine has been releasing a lot of works from "Phantom Masterpiece Liberation Union", "Disco Kayou", "Techno Kayou" which were released as a series reflecting the times, and a number of these raps quickly worked their way into general society. With its origins lying in historical mixes that explored combinations of Hip Hop / rap and Kayokyoku, "Rap Kayou" emerged in 2010. This 7 inch will present the track that kickstarted the revolutionary music genre! A-side "HAGE=RAP-Bald Revolution ★ Beginning signal" by Yurioka ChoutoQ's own gag rap that's not only wrapped up in Japanese comedy, there's high quality trackmaking at its base once your stylus meets the groove. The B-side includes a full-scale track and exquisite coupling "Gyutan Rap", a tribute to the local activity of Sendai, the largest cityin north eastern Japan where the lyrics expressed in flow are also wonderful!

Japanese folk trio Minmoa succeed where few others have. Inspired by laid back 60’s psych-folk, it’s clear that their sound is indebted to the likes of Fairport Convention and Virgin Insanity, but they stand out by updating that sound, breathing new life into a sound that’s become almost cliche.

Their first album, Kikyo no Hi (2021) was released to critical acclaim, with particular praise directed towards lead vocalist Saeko Kusaka’s expressive vocal performance, and the unique guitar playing of Takaaki Konno. The first analog 7-inch single from Minmoa contains “Shinya no Teikibin” from their first album, and “Madokana Yoru”, the title track from their upcoming second EP! Simultaneously laid-back and moving, this unique coupling of two of Minmoa’s best songs on limited edition 45rpm vinyl is one you must not miss! Get it in a flipback cover, available only from P-vine Records!

The artist now known as Danz CM has a strong following in Japan, and P-vine has for a long time heralded her synth-lab experiments in pop having released her debut Scientific Experience back in 2012. On this limited 7” release is a chance to take a trip down memory lane with two pulsating cuts from the electro-wired cybernetic record. On the a-side is “Running,” a hypnotic track that would later power the engine of a Lexus global ad campaign, and on the b-side is “Grand Junction,” a throwback to 80s new wave records through the lens of sci-fi machinery.

As if blessed with the ability to summon birdsong at the strum of his guitar, Shugo Tokumaru has carved out a distinguished career with a master's approach to crafting intricate pop melodies. P-vine is delighted to be pairing two popular singles from two of his most loved albums to release as a 7" single. Back in 2010, Tokumaru released his fourth album Port Entropy and its collage of ideas is no better demonstrated than on the fifth track "Rum Hee" where toy boxes are entrusted with melody lines and Tokumaru's soothing tenor voice colours in the rest. His follow-up album In Focus? arrived two years later, and lead single"Katachi" - with its sound-box of recorders, accordion, melodica and all kinds of instruments one might expect to find stored away in a typical Japanese middle-schooler's closet - is as charming as it is uplifting and waltzes straight to the heart. The music video by Kijek/Adamski was a perfect companion piece to the single picking up best commissioned film at Animafest Zagreb and also making it into Pitchfork's best music videos of the year list.

Blurring the lines between idol and classic soul groups of the 60s and 70s, Way Wave are two sisters Yuna and Anna on a mission to bring soul and funk into a new era. This latest single follows two full-length albums, and this latest single may just be their grandest production of Memphis-leaning dancefloor-hitting anthems yet. As they link vocal harmonies with insticts that only sisters could know, the full backing band featuring trumpet and saxophone blast the spirit of soul into the airwaves on lead single "wavy Girl". The B side" Dance Party" keeps the energy flowing with its funk guitar rhythms and smooth vocal deliveries.

"Xavier" is a collaboration project by three Japanese musicians - guitarist Masayuki Ishii who was an essential member of The Chang and manages his own activities with Tica and Gabby & Lopez, ZAK who is a sound engineer and has worked with Fishmans, Boredoms, Ryuichi Sakamoto.etc andYumiko Ohno who is bassist of her own band Buffalo Daughter and is also known her support work forCornelius. In addition, this project will welcome a variety of up-and-coming artists / rappers as guests. The first of these works will feature chelmico, a female rap unit by Rachel and Mamiko. The B side features Moeka Shiozuka, the guitarist and vocalist of Hitsuji Bungaku.

"Call In Sick" is composed by Masayuki Ishii with chelmico taking over the making of lyrics and hooks. The supporting musicians include Masato Suzuki (b / Little Creatures), Toru Nishiuchi (sax & flute / Reggae Disco Rockers, Shintaro Sakamoto, etc.), and Numazawa (ds / Theater Brook, blues.thebutcher-590213, etc.) . It's a great dance single full of 80s flavors and chelmico's trademark humorous rapping. TheB-side "Kyuutai (Sphere)" is sung by Moeka Shiozuka and composed by Masayuki Ishii, and Tatsuhisa Yamamoto (ds / UA, Eiko Ishibashi, Jim O'Rourke, etc.).Moeka Shiozuka's singing voice strikes the heart with an excellent ballad that oozes an old-school rock taste in an alternative appearance. Furthermore, the artwork made by illustrator Mayu Yukishita who is currently attracting much attention.

From multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer Shinrizumu comes his long-awaited new song, Lady! Mellow grooves are infused with soulful basslines to create a colorful sound quite unlike anything we’ve ever seen from the young musician. MPB-like brass fanfare combines with a sense of urban romanticism to create a dramatic, yet understated sound; a testament to the diverse influences that Shinrizumu draws from. The B-side contains Salao de eventos, a tropical instrumental track whose lightweight rhythms and synthesizer melody make it a perfect song to lounge around to, possibly with a pina-colada in hand. With his first album in five years on the way, this single is one that you absolutely must not miss.

As the internet grew increasingly prevalent, many bands adopted it out of necessity. Sayonara Ponytail were born in it, molded by it. Despite their many studio albums and decade of experience, they’ve never done a live concert, operating primarily through social media and the internet. In fact, nothing is known about the members of the band, besides their aliases and their voices. This 7” single pairs “Curious Girl”, a song calling back to old school hip-hop, with “Crazy Boy”, a more subdued track with A.O.R influences. With beautiful artwork depicting a pop-culture dystopia, this is Sayonara Ponytail’s first release since signing with P-vine. Don’t miss the beginning of what is sure to be a beautiful relationship between Sayonara Ponytail and P-vine.

Friction is one of the first Japanese punk bands and formed by Reck, Chiko Hige and Lapis in Tokyo in March 1978, and now the band is still keeping active. Reck and Chiko Hige had previously been on the NY no wave scene as founding members of James Chance and the Contortions, and brought back the experience and influence to the Japanese music scene. It's no exaggeration to say that the band laid the foundation for alternative music in Japan. P-vine is proud of reissuing all of their albums on vinyl.

79 Live" captures Friction's live performance at a venue in Kyoto, called TakuTaku in December 1979, four months before the release of their debut album "Friction" which is known as a masterpiece of the history of Japanese punk. This live performance has widely been regarded as the best performance in their career and Reck himself referred to it as "it was like a miracle,".

"JWestern" from Leeds,UK is a newcomer to the indie R&B scene in a country that has recently produced the likes of Rex Orange County and Still Woozy. The project was put together by songwriter John Gooding who started his career under the influence of some digital based artists like Rejjie Snow, Tom Misch. As well as other artists of his generation, his music crosses the borders of categorization and his influences lie in a mix of R&B, Jazz, Indie and Hip-Hop. The young and talented songwriter was brought into focus by a lot of music media after he debuted with "Call You Right Now". Including his most popular 2nd ep, P-vine will be packing all his releases originally on digital platforms into analog vinyl for the first time in the world!

Oslo-based Jouska are the musical and artistic partnership of Marit Othilie Thorvik and Hans Olav Settem. Taking influence from the likes of The Internet, Grimes and contemporaries Sassy 009, their brand of bedroom RnB encourages the listener to explore the furthest reaches of the emotional spectrum. Their debut album Everything Is Good is an introvert’s playground, exploring teenage isolation and heartbreak. In places overtly on tracks like ‘Because I Really Don’t Mind’, which Marit tells us is about “feeling like an alien in a person suit. Sometimes it feels like everyone else in the world is a collective group of beings who form a community of which I’m not a part of.” With the warm crackle of a vinyl record, the album’s sound has heart while using distorted elements to tell its story. Juxtaposing sensitivity with purposefully jarring sensory overload, half-whispered vocals are paired with pounding, industrial beats and drops. As well as reaching out into the fantastical, the album also portrays the mundane reality of life with depression. Being manipulated by toxic people alongside the pitfall of falling too deep into destructive cycle of self-pity. The title track elaborates on this – it’s “a portrayal of depression. It’s about waking up with the same draining anxiety in your body, disappointed that sleep didn’t cure you this time either.”

The second album from Cantaro Ihara is finally here!

Deftly weaving everything from 70’s soul to AOR to city pop into his sound, Cantaro Ihara makes pitch-perfect groove-forward pop music. With high praise from DJs both in his native Japan and abroad, this second album is sure to be killer! With a knowledge of music unbound by genre, recent years have seen Cantaro Ihara’s star steadily rising. Whether he’s compiling music for DJ Bars, providing commentary for international artists, or releasing 7-inches that sell out on pre-order, it’s clear that the young musician is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in Japan’s indie music scene. In the two years since his first full album C, Ihara has leveled-up, and Portray makes the clear from beginning to end. From a Japanese-language cover of free soul legend Weldon Irvine’s “I Love You” (the original 7-inch led to intense bidding wars after heavy radio play in both Japan and abroad) and the Ihara original “Twiny”, the lead singles are already off to the races. Gripping the hearts of crate diggers worldwide, it seems predetermined that Ihara’s newest album would be funky, soulful, and mellow. Yet Portray manages to remain shockingly fresh, without any of the obvious tropes that have threatened modern soul. A feature from Japanese trumpeter Yusuke Sase on “Baby So In Love” catapults the song into neo-soul territory, bringing a new twist to a timeless sound. Meanwhile, a feature from Bialystocks keyboardist Go Kikuchi on “Yoru no Nagare” (The Flow of the Night) sees one of Ihara’s most instantly iconic melodies played with a gentle sophistication that could move you to tears in one moment, and have you two-stepping the next. With a history of selling out vinyl on pre-order and intense bidding wars, I’d say it’s clear that Cantaro Ihara is not just one of Japan’s most promising musicians, but one that continues to grip the hearts of record lovers everywhere. His second full length album Portray has everything there is to love about him. Mellow soul and funky grooves are aplenty - but I can’t say the same for stock! Make sure to get your copy of Portray on limited edition vinyl while stock lasts!

In the year since the release of Gusokumuzu’s self-titled debut, the band has been nominated for the prestigious CD shop award, released the smash hit single “Fuyu no Sasayaki” as well as the already sold-out early works compilation Gusokumuzukan, and written songs for some of Japan’s most popular artists. Their unique brand of neo-soul takes cues from their native Tokyo, simultaneously incorporating the glitzy Metropolitan sounds of city pop, and the folksy psychedelia of Haruomi Hosono and Happy End to create a sound quite unlike anything else.

Their second album, Youki na Kyujitsu (lit. A Cheery Day Off) sees a band that has already cemented their position in the upper echelon of Japan’s indie music scene level up in every way imaginable. Their sonic identity remains unchanged: laid-back guitar riffs and breezy grooves are still abundant; but Youki na Kyujitsu is more sophisticated than their self-titled debut, truly showcasing the band’s technical and lyrical proficiency.

All four members of Gusokumuzu contribute songs to the album, and despite their disparate musical backgrounds and influences, Youki na Kyujitsu has a sense of unity that few bands could pull off. Each member’s idiosyncrasies are certainly apparent, but few bands would be able to fit the crunchy left-field guitars and funky bassline of “Sherry” in the same album as power-pop anthem “Tsumetai Wakusei” (lit. Cold Planet) and have it feel as organic as it does here.

Across ten tracks, Gusokumuzu go from folk, to funk, to pop, and never lose sight of their sound as they do. If the past two records have been any indication, Youki na Kyujitsu is sure to sell out quick - so make sure to get yours while you can!

The eagerly awaited new album SNS from Analogfish arrives on LP format via felicity Records with another collection of deeply emotive tunes and genre-hopping grooves. There’s a disco-ball fever on “Saturday Night Sky”, looping synthesizers on “Moonlight” and delicate post-punk guitar melodies on “Is It Too Late?” - all of which are tied together by the tender vocal harmonies of guitarist and bassist Akira Shimooka and Kenta Sasaki.

Analogfish formed in 1999, and their brush with the 90s made its way into their sound with clusters of the era's shoegaze and electronica written into the mix. Shimooka and Sasaki debuted on a major label in 2005 and were joined by Shuichiro Saito on drums who completed the three piece line up. Now veterans of the Japanese indie-rock scene, SNS will be their eleventh album together as a unit and continue to release and tour as energetically as ever.

"After a gap of seven years, Jintana & Emeralds have returned to charm once again with their genre-hopping blend of doo-wop melodies and futuristic electronic productions. Across these ten tracks, the band seek out fragments of beach-pop, surf and soul of the sixties, and feed them into a Japanese built revival machine. P-vine is delighted to be bringing this album to vinyl format in what’s been a year of celebrating past and new for a band who continue to take life in their stride. The celebrations get underway without hesitation on album opener ‘Oh! Southern Wind,’ where hitomitoi’s spell-binding vocals pull down the covers, setting off a hall of swaying melodies and glistening strings as the corkscrews fly. ‘Love Again,’ with a guest appearance from Stones Throw Records’ almighty Los Retros, is an album highlight, and in the context of the record, his vocals take on peculiar likeness to Tetsuro Yamashita as the band deliver a dreamy modern-day city-pop classic.

Totsuzen Danball turned up the amps and then some more on their raucous post-punk outing D. By 2008, the band had enjoyed a lengthy career with 22 records to their name, and this album would be a rare new release on the legendary Pass Records. With mixing duties assigned to none other than Jim O’Rourke, the sound of the record was assuredly electric, and P-vine is excited to be reissuing the album for the first time on vinyl format.

Totsuzen Danball formed in 1977 in northern Saitama prefecture, and quickly established a base with their beefheart-infused odd-ball musings on post-punk and experimental folk. Always transforming; always resistant to standing around in any particular genre for too long, they released their debut album Can I? in 1981 on the newly established Pass Records. Like label contemporaries Phew and Friction, they would become household names in Japanese avant-garde music, and remain active to this day with their latest album Love Surfin' released in P-vine Records in 2018.

Totsuzen Danball originally released their fourth album Yokushi Onryoku in 1991 on the iconic Wax Records. P-vine is excited to be reissuing the album for the first time on vinyl format, and is a great chance to pick up this much adored piece of Japanese alternative rock history.

With over two decades of experience and 13 full length original albums under their belt, Spangle Call Lilli Line are hardly the starry-eyed young post rockers who released their self-titled debut in 2001. Over the years, they’ve incorporated elements of R&B, electronica, new wave, and a variety of other genres into their music, allowing their music to transform with the times - a rich reflection of a band that is constantly open to change. Spangle Call Lilli Line’s 14th original album, Ampersand, sees the band returning to a sound reminiscent of their early albums. Mellow and minimal at the same time, the album is undoubtedly a result of the path that Spangle Call Lilli Line have taken - but with familiar faces such as Jin Yoshida (salon music) producing, it’s immediately clear that Ampersand is a return to their roots. Lead singles “ira”, “lean forward”, and “near you -z mix” are featured prominently in the album, creating sonic contrasts that allow for the finer details of Spangle Call Lilli Line’s music to shine. The album is filled with earworms that betray a level of sophistication only made possible by the 20+ years of experience that Spangle Call Lilli Line have. Pressed on limited edition vinyl, P-vine is proud to be releasing Spangle Call Lilli Line’s Ampersand.

A central member of Japanese freeform noise band Gunjogacrayon, Tadashi Kumihara released an album in 2007 titled Hyoi. What people didn’t know is that those same sessions produced another album, which had never seen the light of day - until now! The recently uncovered album from Kumihara, titled Moji, is as good - if not better - than Hyoi, with the freeform noise guitarist and Ryuichi Sakamoto collaborator (b-2 (2008)) in top form. Kumihara draws alien noises from his guitar, pushing against easy definitions of what defines music. The record is undoubtedly not easy to listen to, but repeat listeners will surely find themselves discovering new dimensions of noise with each listen. Multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, arranger, and all around musician extraordinaire ShinRizumu (real name Rizumu Shin) is returning with his first album in over half a decade!

After releasing his debut album New Rythm in 2015, and garnering heavy airplay of hit single "Shinri no Mori" across Japan, Shin would follow that up with Have Fun (2017) before spending time studying music at a prestiguous music university. Five years later, he returns with his latest album!

Inspired by the music of Tom Jobim, Milton Nascimento, and other Brazilian legends, the sound of the album is undoubtedly MPB-esque (Música Popular Brasileira, lit. Brazilian Popular music), yet interpreted through a uniquely Japanese lens. Samba rhythms and instrumentation are infused with the sounds of contemporary J-pop and city pop, creating a sound that’s quite unlike anything else. Lead single “lady” (the 7” single is out on Oct. 5th!) highlights this sound, featuring the brass and tropical flutes of Brazil, along with a samba-esque groove that would be at home on any MPB album. Yet combine that with the pop sensibilities of one of contemporary J-pop’s greatest song-writers, and you get a song that even Haruomi Hosono would be proud of.

Light grooves are apparent throughout, perfect for whether you’re listening, lounging, or leaping around dancing. Pressed on limited edition vinyl, ShinRizumu’s long-awaited third album is filled to the brim with tropical hits - a refreshing summer breeze, even if it's the middle of winter.

"Isayahh Wuddha," an artist acclaimed for his unique dreamy funk sound crafted using cassette tape MTR, was none other than a personal project by musician Taku Hayashi residing in Kyoto. There is hardly anyone who would feel uneasy about his second album under the psychedelic project "ohhki", another activity of him, being released by P-vine. His music style, which shows no intention of conforming to mainstream music, is a strong expression filled with solid originality.

The songs recorded with analog equipment are treated with lo-fi sound production, successfully creating a unique pop world that delicately combines elements of psychedelia, dub, funk, and disco. While experiencing a sensation of floating gently in space, the undulations, akin to the brushstrokes of an impressionist painting layered with reverberations and echoes, are drawn onto the canvas of the sky along with the resonance of electric guitars, old keyboards resonating with cheap tones, and enchanting voices, accompanied by the repetitive beats of a drum machine. Beginning with an ode to birds, invoking surprises and casting small spells, after being struck by intense rain between night and dawn like a flowing stream, this world is embraced, lingering within me, entranced by the blues, and ending with "Well... just like a banana ripening... you're amusing." Simply there is light and the wind blows. It exists as literally alternative music, vividly presenting another world, rich in color.

Originally released digitally and as a CD in February of 2021, For Tracy Hyde’s critically acclaimed fourth album “Ethernity” is finally getting an analog release! Envisioned around the concept of “America”, this album saw the band incorporate the sound of the 90s US Alternative scene into their iconic shoegaze sound, with the influence of emo, grunge, and slowcore apparent throughout. Songs such as “Desert Bloom” even hint at Sonic Youth-esque noise rock leanings, with guitar feedback and extended riffs trading with catchy vocal melodies. With their highly anticipated fifth album being heavily teased in live shows, there’s no better time to listen to their fourth album!
