This work is like a rebirth after experiencing very hard times! I figured out that you must suffer before you’re able show the people that you really care about something. But everything will be OK. It wasn’t easy to get to this stage, but here we are! From now on it’s like being in springtime. I talked a lot with Nicola during the making of the record; we went through the works we’d done in the past and we decided together what to do and what to stay away from. Kent’s licensing deal with Mickey Stevenson is proving to be a major musical find. Ronnie McNeir is regarded as an absolute top-class, modern soul singer. These tracks are from the early 70s, around the time he cut his eponymous first LP in Los Angeles with Mickey. ‘Say You’ is a superb updating of the Monitors’ harmony hit from 1965 and is given the distinctive, sensitive McNeir treatment.

‘I’m Sorry’ is a slow-burning song that builds into a perfect dancefloor beat. It was penned by Ronnie and his writing partner of the time, Andre Moore. The release is a taster of the complete, previously unreleased album we will issue on Ronnie later this year.

Brazilian mid tempo boogie double header. We’ve been playing these two out for the last couple of years and they are firm favourites.
‘E Novamente Mas Que Nada’ is the opening track from Reseda’s 1979 album on Som Livre. An ultra catchy vocal hook, boogie guitars and synths lead into a piano and cuica breakdown and horns to finish. One of the finest in the genre in our opinion.
‘Ginga’ is taken from Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti’s self-titled masterpiece, reissued on Mr Bongo. Arguably the most immediate and club friendly track from the album, it always turns heads. Another premium example of Brazilian boogie from the masters of the sound and producers for the likes of Rita Lee, Erasmo Carlos, Don Beto, Marcos Valle, Tim Maia, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Sandra Sa, Painel de Controle and many more.

Classic Brazilian album from master drummer, Ronald Mesquita, originally released in 1972. Featuring songs by Jorge Ben, Antonio Carlos-Jobim, Gilberto Gil, Edu Lobo and others.
Mesquita is probably most well-known for playing with Luis Carlos Vinhas and his ‘Bossa Tres’ outfit, along with his own group, ‘Ronie E A Central Do Brasil’, that he formed after his return from the US in the early 1970s. He also played on several songs on Tenorio Jr.’s ‘Embalo’ album that Mr Bongo recently reissued.
The killer track ‘Balanca Pema’ was very big in the Jazz Dance scene in the 90s and also featured on the Mojo compilation ‘Dancefloor Jazz Volume Four’.
Madlib sampled ‘Balanca Pema’ on his Medicine Show Number 2 ‘Flight to Brazil’.

"One afternoon a couple of years ago, an excited Ronald Langestraat could barely contain himself. “I’ve started dancing!” he exclaimed. “I never did it before - I’d always admired it in the past, but just wasn’t able to move like that!” But then, at the ripe old age of 81, Ronald was gripped by the urge to respond to the rhythm and express himself in this physical way.

For a man who’s dedicated his life to music, in particular Jazz with a funky Latin inflection, it feels like an especially sage realization - like the treasure at the end of a long quest, or the princess after the end-game boss. The prize is freedom, and the shapes we make on the dance floor are mirrored in that piano solo over the stanzas - a caravan that trips from smokey basement clubs all the way to Shiva’s Tandava on the edge of the universe.

The music on this album is inspired by this revelation. Although these songs were written many moons ago, their interpretation is modern, full of renewed energy, with young, yet well-worn players. While it slots neatly into the daily music practice that Ronald adheres to, it’s a new chapter in a story that is still being written - and an invitation to get in touch with your dancing self and try out some new moves."

Following in the traditional “soul 45 rpm” single format, a sweet ballad side with a funk side on the flip. Here is the first physical release from the forthcoming LP “Ron And The Hip Tones”. The lowrider soul feel on “Tear On My Chin '' comes from a brainstorming session with Ron, producer P. Maxwell Ochester, and the two main songwriters Dave Cope & Fred Berman. It tackles heartache, pain, and loss coupled with the slow grinding groove only true heartache can produce. North Carolina-based singer-songwriter Ron Henderson and his group Choice of Colour released their only album, Soul Junction, in 1976, a rare record that sold for over $800 at auctions and other venues, and P Vine released a reissue in 2020 but it was quickly sold out. It was recently found out that the popular 1983 single 'Gemini Lady' which was included as a bonus track on that reissue, was not the original version but an alternate take, P-vine therefore decided to reissue that single again in its original version as an official reissue! the 7" single is also well known as hard-find title more than Soul Junction LP.

Although a 7" with a replaced label design was reissued in 2003, on this reissue we have decided to use the same label design as the original release. In addition, the single originally had no jacket, but for this reissue the artwork is being designed by P-vine for the first time. Don't miss this special opportunity for die-hard groove diggers!

One of the most interesting publishing events of the 1980s were special British editions of Italian, French or German productions containing PWL remixes. Behind PWL name were producers associated with the hit trio Stock/Aitken/Waterman, which promoted a number of great artists, including Dead Of Alive, Banarama and Kylie Minogue to name a few. PWL’s remixes for London Boys and Blue System became evergreens.
