Four years after their latest release – SCEB925LP/CD / “Do Hipsters Love Sun (Ra)?” – the most cinematic duo in town is coming back in Autumn 2019 with a new full-length record called “Art Is A Cat”, anticipated by the first single “When You Died”, released as a 7-inch with two versions of the same song.
Side A contains the album version of “When You Died” and features singer Sean Martin on vocals – yes, the same one that sang on the band’s super classic number “Tunnel” back in 2003! A funk song with a ’70s psychedelic taste, with an emphasized groove typical of some American rock bands such as Black Merda.
Side B includes a rework of the same composition made by Massimo Martellotta (Calibro 35), who transformed the original track into a compelling disco soul midtempo tune.

The Ancient Cosmonauts horn-heavy take on funk, soul and jazz fusion somehow manages to be both rooted in the past and pleasingly fresh. With their first release, the band digs into its leader's Michael "Treetop" Voss past with The Poets of Rhyhtm.
A-side "More Mess On My Thing" is the band's take on the 1993 Poets classic, driven forwards by laidback, loose-limbed drumming, rubbery bass guitar, layered hand percussion, a call-to-party female vocal and the twin attractions or rising horn lines and snaking sax solos. "Keepin' On" is based on a forever lost recording of that same 1993 session, with the band adding urgent lead vocal to the ear-catching horn lines of the original version, the song runs up to its climax in a screaming trumpet solo over the collective push of the full band.

Recorded in producer Toby Pazner 's Bedroom on a Tascam 388, t hese tracks paint a vivid picture of the early development of the sound that has become synonymous with The Olympians: heavy drums, lush strings, and layered horns, all woven together by a group of New York's most sought after studio musicians and Pazner's production. "Midnight Movement" is a moody, psychedelic shuffle, reminiscent of an acid trip gone incredibly well! Backwards guitars, vibes, and tremolo strings are there to help you through the journey. You'll have no problem spinning this one till the ride's over. The B side, "Stand Tall," floats along with bass, drums, keyboards and vibes by Pazner while melodic horns by Leon Michels and Michael Leonhart punctuate over wah-wah guitar. 1961, Port Richmond, Staten Island, NYC: Five kids stumble into a community center, sent by their parents to keep them off the streets and out of trouble. A lifelong friendship is formed over their shared love of doo-wop. The kids start learning harmony and the next thing they know they're cutting records. The group begins to gain steam as they take their act to the packed clubs around New York City. But history has other plans for the boys. First, The Beatles invade America, making doo-wop yesterday's news. Then, the United States invades Vietnam and two of the five boys are sent off to the jungle.Reintroducing: The Splendids. 61 years after their initial formation, the group has reconvened to cut two truly breathtaking records. With three of the five surviving original members weaving together heartfelt harmonies, the group has regenerated themselves and enlisted the help of multi-platinum soul singer Eamon to sing lead. Eamon is no stranger to doo-wop, as he got his start in the music business touring the Northeast as a young boy with a group his father Walter formed in the 90's. With this father and son reunion on these two tracks, the listener is taken back to a time when walking down the street you might come across a gang of youth singing their hearts out on a street corner, serenading the city with their souls. The Splendids hired Los Angeles based producer and multi-instrumentalist Dan Ubick to produce the records and conjure up the retro rhythm and blues sounds of the 1960's. Frequent Eamon collaborator the Oklahoman Benj Heard was then brought on to mix and produce the vocals. Both Ubick and Heard's sonic fingerprints add texture and groove to the groups legacy on 'Cry Baby Cry' and 'Blame My Heart'.Generations have come together from coast-to-coast to take back what history took from them. Stefano Tirone is an eclectic artist, open to a wide range of different music genres. This new 7-inch, that includes two brand new tracks, confirms his 20-year old collaboration with Brazilian songwriter Toco. Working on these songs for Stefano was like going back to the years when he used to listen to Acid Jazz music, especially to the records produced by the Mizell brothers. Their influence here is obvious from the first notes: the funk in “Try My Love” is not as high-fueled as in James Brown’s songs but, as the legendary brothers taught us, by blending a hint of soul jazz with the ‘70s downtempo drumming groove, we get a fluid brew, relaxed and dreamy. Koma Saxo is a highly potent new five-piece produced by the visionary Berlin-based Swedish bassist-producer Petter Eldh. Chris Alfaro, aka Free the Robots, is a musician, beat maker and DJ known for his ability to jump in and out of different sonic worlds, creating a unique signature sound blending electronic, hip hop, jazz and psychedelia.

"Yours Truly" consists of 12 brilliantly soulful cuts that take direct inspiration from 60's & 70's classic soul music adding a sound that is firmly rooted in the new millennium. Anticipated by the first single "Mr Right On Time", the album was recorded between Bordeaux and Nantes during 2021 and beginning of 2022. The idea behind the new album was to find a unique sound, mixing classic 60's & 70's soul music with more contemporary influences such as hip hop beats, jazz, reggae, and Caribbean sounds. To do that, Alexis paired up with producer Louis-Marin Renaud, known for his work with French-English singer, actress and model Lou Doillon and country-soul rising star Theo Lawrence, who took part in the arrangements and mixed the album. "All instruments were recorded live, some titles were completely live and others got modified, cut, sampled, depending on the tunes in a kind of beatmaking way. It was a very fun and fulfilling project that will sound awesome on stage for sure," explains Alexis. Lyrically, the album could be described as soulful everyday rhymes.

Karo Glazer is a singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and music producer all at the same time. She also wrote music for theatre plays and ballet. She played and recorded with both jazz and rock musicians i.e Lars Danielsson, Mike Stern, John Taylor, Klaus Doldinger, and multiple Grammy-winning producers Martin Walters (Esperanza Spalding, Spyro Gyra, Dianne Reeves) and Flemming Rasmussen (Metallica, Rainbow, Mr Big), with whom she produced Black SUN. After years of performing vocal jazz, Karo returns with Black SUN and delivers a euphoric guitar riff, spiked with her explosive voice, trance groove, and her new artistic vision, which is presented by her new conception of 7'' vinyl, which includes DJ Tools kit on B side and the solar foil sleeve cover, that lets you safely observe the Sun. It's a psychedelic rock Odyssey with progressive influences based on alternative, pop, and jazz roots.
