Featuring a core lineup of virtuosic musicians - John Patitucci on bass, Dave Weckl on drums, Eric Marienthal on saxophone and Frank Gambale on guitar - the group created a dynamic and electrifying sound that came to define the jazz fusion style. Their collective musicianship was on full display on each album, as they seamlessly blended complex compositions with captivating improvisations. After releasing five legendary albums in the span of 6 years (now available form Candid Records on all streaming platforms, CD, and the vinyl box set The Complete Studio Recordings 1986-1991), Corea, always interested in expanding the scope of his work, devoted himself to a myriad of other musical projects. Compiled and completed by Corea before his death in February of 2021, this incredible and previously unreleased album of live recordings with the reunited original Elekteric Band, was captured during tour stops in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Produced by Corea with original Elektric Band recording engineer Bernie Kirsch, and mastered by Bernie Grundman, the 3 disc vinyl LP and 2 disc CD features in depth liner notes from Corea, and all of the Elektric Band members. It is a fitting closing chapter, a must have for any fan of this dynamic and game changing group.

Queen Talk: Live at the Left Bank is an official, never-before-released concert recording from one of the greatest female jazz organists of all-time, Shirley Scott, featuring a powerhouse trio with George Coleman on tenor saxophone and Bobby Durham on drums, plus special guest vocalist Ernie Andrews on three tracks. This hand-numbered, limited edition (3000 worldwide), double LP set was transferred from the original tape reels and is pressed on 180g vinyl. It features 100 minutes of music and is packaged in a gatefold sleeve with an extensive booklet with liner notes by acclaimed music writer A. Scott Galloway, rare photos by Don Schlitten and Raymond Ross, and memorabilia from the Left Bank archives plus interviews with jazz organ icon Joey DeFrancesco, former Shirley Scott bandmate, saxophonist Tim Warfield, and pianist Monty reminiscing about drummer Bobby Durham. The set is co-produced by label owner/musician Cory Weeds and renowned archival recording producer Zev Feldman.

The show was recorded at the Famous Ballroom in Baltimore Maryland on August 20, 1972 and hasn't ever been previously available. Philadelphia-born Scott rose to fame in the late 1950s playing the Hammond B-3 organ influenced by blues and gospel evolving into '60s soul jazz. She recorded numerous albums for Prestige, Impulse!, Atlantic, Cadet and Candid performing with countless jazz legends including Stanley Turrentine, Oliver Nelson, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Clark Terry and Kenny Burrell.

The 10-track set cooks on songs of the day like "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "You Don't Mess Around With Jim," and "Never Can Say Goodbye," along with standards such as "Smile," "Witchcraft" and John Coltrane's "Impressions."

Mass Hysterism in Another Situation captures Masayuki Takayanagi's New Direction Unit in its final incarnation, at an apex in its development; it also finds Takayanagi, one of Japan's great iconoclastic artists, at a moment of crucial artistic transformation. Recorded in August 1983 as part of his "Another Situation" concert series, the album features one of the last performances of Takayanagi's revolutionary and perhaps most famously violent piece, "Mass Projection." By this date, New Direction's line up had been distilled to a compact, searingly hot trio of Takayanagi joined on electric guitar by Akira Iijima and Hiroshi Yamazaki on drums/percussion. Over the course of 40 minutes, the group sustains an uninterrupted, highly charged attack propelled with unrelenting energy. The music is rife with noise and dissonance intruding from both sides; a vortex of sound and fury that begins to slip from even the expansive bounds of free jazz into something almost purely electronic. The trio would perform only four more times, completing the "Another Situation" series with its 24th edition in November 1984. Eleven months later Takayanagi would debut an entirely new modality, one he called "Action Direct." It completely transformed his approach to guitar and sound in general by embracing an entirely abstract, solo noise music projected through massive, complex sound systems of his own design. Mass Hysterism is perhaps the most powerful link in this part of Takayanagi's history—a perfect realization and farewell to one of his greatest forms en route to territories even further afield and radical. The complete works, including newly discovered recordings, by South Carolinian funk/soul bandleader James Reese, a jazz-inflected producer as ambitious as he was talented. Trombonist, bandleader, songwriter, arranger and producer James Reese never issued an album with his Progressions band, only a series of 45s – some under his own name, some under that of his collaboraors – out of Spartanburg, South Carolina on his Najma label, from the late 1960s until the mid 1970s. He was as ambitious as he was talented, and his ouevre ranges from brutal, deep soul to sophisticated instrumental ballads to jazz-inflected funk.
Now-Again’s Egon first discovered Reese’s music on a 24 lock-in in Concord, North Carolina’s legendary record and antique clock repository, Ye Olde Clock Shoppe, in 1999. After he tracked down Reese, he officially reissued two of Reese’s songs on his seminal Stones Throw anthology The Funky 16 Corners. He later issued more of Reese’s music on the Now-Again anthology Loving On The Flipside. Sourced from rare 45s and multi-track master tapes, Wait For Me: The Complete Works 1967-1972 presents both issued and recently-rediscovered songs in the full-length format, in a cohesive set that shows the brilliance still arising from the American soul and funk sub-strata. Included among them is a remix of the track “Throwing Stones” from longtime Now-Again associate Kenny Dope. "Na Rua, na Chuva, na Fazenda" is a classic of Brazilian music, released by Hyldon in 1975, one of the 20 best sellers of that year, it marks the debut of the singer and composer from Bahia, it is a seminal work of Brazilian soul, reflecting the musical effervescence of the 1970s and the influence of the black power movement in the country alongside Tim Maia and Cassiano. Born in Salvador and passionate about music from an early age, the singer developed his music in the 60s alongside dance bands in Rio de Janeiro and even recorded with some of them. Hyldon was influenced by the mix of rhythms that permeated the city, from MPB to soul and funk. He worked as a support guitarist for artists such as Wilson Simonal, Os Diagonais (Banda de Cassiano) and Tim Maia. He composed and produced several artists with Odair Joé and Erasmo Carlos. The title of the album, "Na Rua, na Chuva, na Fazenda", is also the title of its most iconic track, but the album has other successes such as: "As Dores do Mundo", "Vamos Passear De Bicicleta", "Meu Patuá", among others. The album is an ode to simple and pure love. This song became a romantic anthem, and its soft melody combined with Hyldon's sweet and soulful voice captivated the audience.

Jazz pianist, composer, bandleader, Grammy-nominee, and Kennedy Center legend Ahmad Jamal has for five decades been one of the most successful small-group leaders in jazz and one of the genre's all-time great pianists. His artisty, talent and creative abilities have thrilled audiences and been broadly proclaimed by musician and music lover alike. "At The Pershing: But Not For Me" is Jamal's dazzling fountain of creative splendor in full flow.
In 1956 Jamal's new trio (with Israel Crosby on bass and Vernell Fournier on drums) began a residency at Chicago's Pershing Hotel, and two years later the group recorded "At The Pershing: But Not For Me", which spent 108 weeks among the Top Ten best selling albums. Recorded on Jan. 16, 1958 at the Pershing Lounge in the hotel, each set played that night was recorded for a total of 43 tracks, eight of which were selected by Jamal for the album.
AllMusic rates the album 4 stars, calling it a turning point in Jamal's career. The album became one of the best-selling records in the history of the Chess Records label. But it's often forgotten that a jazz pianist called Ahmad Jamal played a major role in filling up the label's coffers and widening its audience.
Jamal, from Pittsburgh, was a child prodigy who started playing piano at age 3 and, as a teen, caught the ear of jazz great Art Tatum. Then, after moving to Chicago, in 1948, he was eventually discovered by visionary record producer John Hammond. Hammond gave Jamal his first shot at recording in 1951, but it was seven years later, when the pianist was signed to Chess Records, that his career truly skyrocketed.
"At The Pershing: But Not For Me" topped America's jazz charts for months and established a 107-week residence in Billboard's album charts.
»That album sold over one million copies and is still selling«, Jamal says. He attributes its success to the power of music. »It's contagious. Music belongs to the world. So something that is of value, whether it's Ravel's Boléro or, specifically, "At The Pershing", the world listens.
