LeSale is back with the Synchronized EP, which marks his fifth solo EP on Luv Shack Records. The title track is LeSale´s first foray into boogie-funk, featuring lyrics and vocals by Kathy Diamond, one of the great voices of the early nu-disco era and former singer of the duo Kdms, as well as tape mixing by vienna based studio wizard Sam Irl. “Synchronized” comes in 4 versions; the classic vocal mix featuring the full vocals by Kathy Diamond, the instrumental mix which is stripped of the vocals entirely, the extended dub mix, featuring arrangement and additional overdubs by Sam Irl, concentrating on the bare,funky essence of the track and finally a special remix by Ooft!. The Ooft! remix lays a club foundation for “Synchronized", taking it to proto house territory with a sparse use of original vocals and additional drums, synth leads and pads. As a bonus original track, we get “Superfluid", an upbeat elektro-funk journey

For his first solo EP, Tushen Raï designed a record in the form of a colorful patchwork of sounds, a meticulous collage of samples, surrounding noises and synthesizers. Here, Maori percussion dug on field recording discs from the late 60s and 70s meet Indonesian chants recorded on phones and posted anonymously online. A nostalgic yet deeply contemporary testimony to an imagination weakened resulting from the cultural globalization. With Drums Circles, Tushen Raï wants to reconnect with the adventure novels, from Jules Vernes to Barjavel, which nourished his childhood. For the 25th release in our Phonica White series, we are very excited to have three stunning tracks from Disco wizard Ron Basejam! When he’s not producing and performing with the legendary band Crazy P, Ron Basejam aka James Baron can be found putting out all kinds of dance floor power tools on labels such as Razor N Tape, Futureboogie and his own RBJ edits imprint, as well as delivering amazing remixes. This release kicks off with ‘The Hurt Inside’, evoking late night Los Angeles highway cruises and the driving power of Knight Rider, it breaks down into a glorious euphoria for the breakdown before hitting Mach 10 again with the raw funk bassline and drums kicking back in. Over on the B-Side, proceedings begin with ‘Don’t Bus My Aux’ which finds Ron Basejam digging into a Deep House-in- fused world, drawing you in with Balearic pads before erupting with thunderous bass, vocal chops and chants that are expertly contrasted against soulful Rhodes-esque keys while the percussion grows into frenzy. Rounding out the release, ‘Music People’ sets a call to the dance floor as its mantra, sitting some- where craftily between House and Techno with ease. The sung vocals flutter in the background with the marching drums and rumbling low end maintaining a cavernous groove. The track builds into an almost Boards of Canada-style warbling synth breakdown before sinking into the pounding percussion for the climax. Artwork as always is supplied by the talented Pedro Carvalho de Almeida.

Top drawer as you’d expect, with a dose of magic for every occasion.

Zapatilla, better known as Louis Hackett, is a founding member of Brownswood 's Owiny Sigoma Band and key collaborator on Eska's Mercury nominated debut album, but has a neat side hustle making house music with one foot in the gentle melodies of Balearic beat and another in the irresistible energy of Afrobeat. It's a recipe that he continues over onto this fine four tracker, which opens with the smoothly grooving but lively 'Like Dat' before 'Zimzimmer' builds up around a gently frenetic Afro guitar riff. On the flip, 'Disco Facial' is slower and more retro, with a synth line that could be from a lost John Carpenter soundtrack. 'Self Isolated' completes the package in its most esoteric fashion, another synth work rooted in the past, this time perhaps echoing the approachable experimentalism of Jean Jacques Perry.

On the A side with ‘Joy’, Bruise head in a jubilant direction. Chanting vocal chops ride along deep cut kick grooves and vivid piano riffs; modernising the classic house sound and forming a track that would as likely go off in a club in the UK as it would on the sun-soaked beaches of Ibiza. In ‘The Theme’, Bruise switches things up and offers up a weighty, bass-driven progressive techno heater; bolstered with rattling break chops and polyrhythmic analogue synth arpeggios. As the track progresses, rip-roaring, squelching acid-lines are introduced at the crescendo; creating a versatile club record; primed and ready for the clubs reopening. On this single ‘When Pianos Attack’, the vibe is instantly recognisable. Piano chords lead the charge of yet another dancefloor destroyer, with that signature sound of swinging beats, layered pianos, lashings of strings, and hosts of heavenly soulful choirs. Just close your eyes, look up, feel the rush, and dance.

Alex "landy" Hill's musical journey began in the early 80s with the DJ collective Control Crew, performing live DJ sets & rap shows at the birth of turntablism in Oakland California. Alex was the one guy who had two technics 1200s, a costly investment for any teen at that time. In 1982 Alex and high school friend Marcus Thompson formed Timex Social Club. Alex wrote the 1986 anthem "Rumors", a song often cited as the precursor to New Jack Swing. Shortly after high school, Alex would already have a #1 hit on the Billboard R&B charts with Timex Social Club, and tour dates with RUN DMC, Beastie Boys, and LL Cool J, performing at Madison square Gardens, Twice! Alex went on to produce music for Jay King / King Jay Records, Club Nouveau, LaRue, and Michael Cooper. Cosmic Cherry – Malibu After making it through yet another lengthy and grey Berlin winter, DJ and producer Cosmic Cherry put together “Malibu” to have you dream of warmer, friendlier places. A summery, mellow house track with airy vocals and a punchy bass line that takes you to your favorite destinations. Using her own voice in German, she longs for those times where you can smell the saltwater in the air and dance through mild summer nights. Nicodemo – Esmeralda Nicodemo gets back to his own imprint with his italo touch, balearic infused; a hypnotic and effective track that jacks your body with plenty of hands-in-the-air synths, a pumping bassline, and rhythmic elements rising to a harmonic crescendo

House royalty right here. An unmistakable voice over the decades, from the late ‘80s till the present day, Byron Stingily’s falsetto tones are some of the purest around. Whether hitting the high notes as part of Ten City or in his solo songs, his gospel-tinged, uplifting voice has soundtracked countless euphoric moments.

Club Chi’ll Records welcome Byron to the label as he delivers a signature, piano-laden, hands in the air vocal house gem in the form of ‘Can’t Help It’. Not stopping there, they enlist the expertise of Wade Teo, Spaces Between and Soul Clap to add their trademark flavour to proceedings with four distinctive remixes.

Born out of an impromptu post-pub jam session in Margate, the 5-piece group Pigeon swoops onto the scene with their blistering debut EP Yagana.

As the tracks cross effortlessly between Afro-disco, grunge, no wave and jazz, the cohesive symbiotic relationship of the band members is obvious from the start. The powerful vocals of Guinean singer Falle Nioke are complemented by a wealth of talent from Graham Godfrey on drums, Steve Pringle on keys, Tom Dream on guitar and Josh Ludlow on bass.

Having moved to the UK from West Africa in 2018, Falle Nioke has recently been in the spotlight with EPs heavily supported by indie radio and BBC 6 Music playlisters. On Yagana, he continues to sing in a multitude of languages, but this time shifts towards a more organic musical direction, showcasing his incredible versatility as a vocalist.

This new path can be attributed to the pedigree of the rest of the group – veteran musicians Steve Pringle and Graham Godfrey are key members of Michael Kiwanuka’s band, the latter also performing with Little Simz, Cleo Sol and Sault, among others.

Furthermore, Tom Dream and Josh Ludlow are electronic artists in their own right – with a number of artistic projects in the works, as well as having performed together as ambient duo Soma World. Both used to play in metal and grunge bands in earlier years, an influence which has made its way into Pigeon’s distinctive sound.

The Yagana EP is an emotionally-charged offering, exploring themes of lust, saudade, homesickness, and hope for peace. The title track ‘Yagana’ translates to “it’s been a while”, and though its up-tempo disco rhythm and wild synth solos lend a cheerful disposition, the lyrics describe a melancholic yearning for Africa. Nioke sings in Susu, Wolof and Malinke – as he describes the struggle of being separated from one’s family, as well as hustling to support them financially from afar.

As a teenager, Nioke would train his voice by the great river Rio Nunez in Boké, among the remnants of the slave trade, pathways and crumbling buildings being swallowed up by the forest. While most Western teenagers grew up with traditional pets, Nioke disclosed to his band members that his closest animal friend in West Africa was the pigeon – and so the name of the group was chosen.

Moving through the record, ‘Nothing Grows’ follows on from the Afro-disco opener, bringing down the tempo and intensity. The heavily swung jazz rhythm is driven by the drums, while soft guitar tremolo picking and synth pads produce a delicate atmosphere over which the singer mournfully longs for a lost love.

But having lured the listener into a meditative and pensive state in ‘Nothing Grows’, feathers are suddenly ruffled by the entrance of “It’s You” - a sultry story of burning desire. Channelling grunge and elements of no wave, the song is defined by a rumbling bass that pulses alongside the kick, while an atonal synth riff and fuzzy guitar licks provide the minimal melody. Piercing through it all is the hypnotic spoken word of Nioke, switching between French and English, as he beckons – and at times even demands - a lover to enter his room.

Finally, ‘War (Jam)’ returns the record to its 4x4 disco pace, featuring rapid-fire hats and high-pitched guitar riffs seemingly nodding to Mugithi, a genre often associated with political commentary. This concept is built upon with lyrics sung in Susu, as Nioke condemns wars around the world and their ongoing futility, pleading for people to unite and create a better place. Running just over 7 minutes, ‘War (Jam)’ is an improvised long take which continuously evolves, allowing each musician an opportunity to shine.

Recorded in a single weekend, Pigeon’s Yagana EP is a clear testament to each member’s skilfulness and varied experiences, creating a fully-fledged being that is greater than the sum of its parts. With an opening hand like this, we await with bated breath to see what more the humble Pigeon can bring to the world.

Daje Funk Records makes a most welcome return with the outstanding four track Slam Dunk Vol. 2 EP featuring groovy sensations from Jisco Dazz, BPlan, G. Markus and Frank Virgilio.

First up on the A-side is ‘Change’ from Jisco Dazz (the alter-ego of Get Down Edits’ Daz Dalton) with a track which plays like a cool breeze hitting your face on the hottest day of the year. Gentle keys and a gorgeously unhurried rolling drum beat are joined by that bassline! Suddenly, you’re driving a convertible down LA’s Sunset Strip. Even before the vocal kicks in, you know there’s a perceptive wisdom at play here. Change is gonna come. The loud minority has spoken. Uplifting, inspiring and moving– one for the sun kissed terraces out there for sure.

Next on the A-side is ‘Hey Boy’ by Italian producer BPlan - a dirty lowdown that perfectly completes the vibe of the A-side. BPlan’s skills in bringing a unique take to a familiar riff is nothing short of genius. The perfectly pitched bass, filtered chord progression and mid-tempo beat lead us on a journey drenched in summer juices which, when combined with the vocal samples force you to stay in the moment and stop runnin’ with those Joneses. A sublime slice of a summer long past served up by one of the brains behind Caffè Corretto Edits, this is Daje Funk at its very best.

You know what you're getting with Mr K - "high-powered disco intensity" as he says himself, in this case in the form of two neglected cuts rescued and fully refurbished by the master. On the A-side comes the Dynamic Superiors' essential gay disco classic 'I Can't Stay Away (From Someone I Love)', boiled down to its most concentrated form, reshaped as a hard-charging, peak time disco climax with their proudly out singer Tony Washington - an influence on the soon-to-emerge Sylvester - setting the tone of pride and liberation. Flip it over for the slap bass and brass of the frenetic 'Hit and Run', first released by the obscure Opus 7 in 1979 but overshadowed at the time by the slower, funkier 'Bustle'. Eliminating everything but the transcendent ride out, which is extended to a glorious eight minutes in order to fully enjoy its pumping bass and Philly-style group harmonies, Mr K ensures both sides of this are killer club weapons for the serious DJs and dancers alike.

The the disco facelift, the arse tuck, some analog liposuction ...Digby Yakiddin and Cyrus Posatron return to the discoteque coalface to grind out .a value pack of random noid selections for all the family to enjoy. Get your chaps on girls and boys, jump on the Noid Bucking Bronco and lets ride !

The label's commemorative first release title is a limited 7inch with 2 covers from City POP Anthems, "Klaxon of Summer" by Junichi Inagaki and "Tokai" by Taeko Onuki!! The A-side "Klaxon of Summer" (Natsu no Klaxon) is Junichi Inagaki's fifth single, released in July 1983. The song was used as a commercial song for Fujifilm's cassette tapes at the time, and is a classic summer song, originally written by Gota Nishidera's biggest inspiration, Kyohei Tsutsumi. The B-side is "Tokai", from Taeko Onuki's second solo album "sunshower", released in July 1977 after the breakup of Sugar Babe, and is now heard all over the world as a classic City POP song!! ◇Cover Art: "Midnight" by Gota Nishidera

A top value for money opportunity here, as Moiss Music deliver the latest in their sweet and sticky Jam series of various artist 12" line ups, bringing you no less than six bubbling, vivacious disco triumphs from six artists. Khemir's 'Disco Bandit' kicks off proceedings, a production that sounds like it was made by a band of around 45 musicians, a proper cavalcade of strings, brass, brazen disco thump and beautifully bold vocals. Wurzelholz's 'Prince' goes for a bit more economy but with a slinky funk bassline like that - not to mention the occasional exclamation from the purple overlord himself - it's equally devastating in dancefloor terms. Among the other highlights, 'Golden' by I Gemin has the feel of a lost Daft Punk flip tune and Cosmocomics' 'Glamorous Garcon', boasting 70s-style synth bubbles that are as cute as they are retro. Tasty as ever.

Cranes In The Sky,’ was originally written by Beyonce’s baby sister Solange alongside Raphael Saadiq, for her album back in 2016 that was cited by Rolling Stone as one of the most important 500 records of all time. The words exploring a fearless journey inward, pulling up the root of a problem, and the first glimpse of blue sky after the storm has passed. Fast forward to 2022 - Ross Allen and Andy Thompson’s Foundation Music Productions enlist the expertise of Baltimore club legend, Dj Oji, together with Tracy Hamlin (Pieces Of A Dream), to take Solange’s breakout delivery to the dancefloor. Label boss Jason Peters is back with a new single for his Roam Recordings imprint. Lost in Space features Jason’s vocals driving an early house meets italo feel with a splash of dub. The EP is backed by two top remixes from Prins Thomas and The Juan MacLean. Prince Thomas takes the vibe of the original into an epic Diskomiks with live guitars, strings, and tribal drums over a masterful arrangement. The Juan MacLean takes the mood in the opposite direction delivering a dark, stripped down, hypnotic banger.

As music in the digital age seems to be shifting back to a 60's era emphasis on singles over albums, those who clamor for a full-length installment of music from their favorite artists have found their thirst increasingly unquenched. Enter Leopard DaVinci & Louis 707, who are boldly filling this gap in modern funk music with their LP "Make The Party Great Again." Living through an era of social distancing, event cancellations, and venue closures, making the party thrive as it once did is no small task, but this French synth-funk duo come across as extraordinarily energized to meet the challenge. It feels like every synthesizer sound ever conceived somehow lives within their arsenal, as a colorful blend of analog tones and back-cracking handclaps form the foundation for pure boogie bliss. From the album's inception, "Kinda Get Funky" sets the tone. It's clear that Leopard & Louis respect the original flight plan of the Mothership, though they draw more of their inspiration from subsequent sons of the "P" such as Zapp or 80's era Cameo. Pictureplane has made his name circling the outer limits of pop culture in several mediums. The Brooklyn-based artist's gallery works, shown both in the U.S. and abroad, collide familiar with fringe and hard lines with visceral spatter.
