In the brave tradition of George and Charles Parker, Milton Bradley, and Gary Gygax comes Cities of Darkscorch_the Numero Group's embattled first attempt at board game creation. Cities is the playable companion to Warfaring Strangers: Darkscorch Canticles, the label's 48th mainline release and a harrowing dive into the Stygian caverns of the American hard rock underground. A dice-rolling, card-driven, heavy rock band van ride through a fantasy landscape, Cities of Darkscorch could not begin to exist without Robert Soden, who, in 1975, set about creating a tapestry of maps, floorplans, and dungeon schema_the D&D-based lands of Eldara. Expanding upon Soden's meticulous vision, Cities of Darkscorch required newly commissioned card art and band logos to summon up a gravely themed mythical land of desolate outposts, warring bands, and the familiar ills that befall them.Roleplaying as any of Darkscorch Canticles' sixteen determined bands, one to six players traverse the broken roads of Darkscorch_battling such forbidding quartets as Grimsword, Narcissus, Ass-Centaur and 97 more_to collect city banners from such pits of hard rock competition as Afterdath, Wizard's Wellspring, and Throk. Along the way, players may augment their bands through the use of fate cards with new artwork from the demented minds of John McGavock McConnell and Eliza Childress. The ultimate goal is Numenor, victory, and a record contract penned in brimstone, VD, and pot smoke.

The original score by Academy Award winner Volker Bertelmann that is the soundtrack to Jules, starring Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Schindler’s List), Harriet Sansom Harris (Licorice Pizza, “Hacks”), Jane Curtin (Coneheads, I Love You, Man) and Jade Quon (Transformers: The Last Knight, The Hunger Games) is set for release by ABKCO Records. Written by Gavin Steckler (“Review”, “Playing House”), Jules made its world premiere at the Sonoma International Film Festival where it was the opening night film, and won the Stolman Audience Award for Best Feature. The film is produced by Michael B. Clark, Andy Daly, Deborah Liebling and Alex Turtletaub alongside Marc Turtletaub.

Produced and directed by Marc Turtletaub (Puzzle, The Farewell, Little Miss Sunshine), Jules, a Bleecker Street release of a Big Beach production, was filmed in Morris County, NJ and follows Milton (Kingsley) who lives a quiet life of routine in a small western Pennsylvania town. His day is upended when a UFO and its extra-terrestrial passenger crash land in his backyard. Before long, Milton develops a close relationship with the extra-terrestrial he calls “Jules.”

Things become complicated when two neighbors (Harris and Curtin) discover Jules and the government quickly closes in. What follows is a funny, wildly inventive ride as the three neighbors find meaning and connection later in life – thanks to this unlikely stranger.

The film’s score is the work of composer/pianist Volker Bertelmann who was a 2017 Academy Award nominee for his score to Lion. Last year he received both an Academy Award and the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) for his score for All Quiet on the Western Front. The Budapest Art Orchestra performs Bertelmann’s music for the Jules score. Recording under the name Hauschka, Bertelmann is a prolific artist in his own right and, beyond soundtracks, has released 20 full length albums of original music to date. The Washington Post’s Michael O’Sullivan wrote, “In the end, Jules performs a magical, if tiny, bait-and-switch: It’s less a sci-fi parable — “E.T. the Extraterrestrial” for the AARP demographic — than a fairy tale reminding us that the tribulations of getting old are more natural than sad, and best done in the company of loved ones.”

The VMP exclusive version of Jules (Original Score) is pressed on 180g Honey Crisp vinyl at GZ Vinyl. The 1LP will arrive in a single, direct-to-board jacket with an 8x10 insert and art by Sara Deck. It was mastered by Carl Rowatti at Trutone Mastering Labs.

But "Asterigos" is so much more than just orchestral music depicting a mythology or some dark electronic sounds delicately designed for a dungeon. In Aphes, you will even hear bards' songs, that Chang especially composed for this world."Golden Olive", the main theme of "Asterigos", is performed by Asja Kadric, who sang in "Guild War 2", while the lyrics for "Nostalgia", the theme song, were written by Matthew Yen, a well-known Taiwanese lyricist and novelist. Furthermore, "Nostalgia" is sung by Emi Evans, whose vocals are also featured in "NieR:Automata". In the world created by "Asterigos", many songs are re-arranged and performed by Percival Schuttenbach, who is famous for his works in "The Witcher 3". In some mysterious corners in the game, you can even hear the beautiful voices of Pinling Chen, who sang in the games "Detention" and "Devotion" and Anna Stolarczyk, a Polish soprano who sang in the game, "Father & Son".Besides the orchestral music recorded by Budapest Symphony Orchestra, the soundtrack is also a collection of wonderful original music by Taiwanese performers, including Hsinyu Yang, Yachun Yang and Szuhui Tui, an English violinist, Dominika Latusek, a singer, Adiescar Chase, a Scottish guitarist, Joseph Stevenson, a Japanese pianist and composer, Aruto Matsumoto, and an Italian composer, Fabio Amurri.
