After the glorious Wormboiler cassette tape compilation obliterated human ears in 2021, American one-man black industrial weapon Uranium finally emerges from the depths of oblivion with its debut full-length album An Exacting Punishment, a five-track, forty-minute radioactive nightmare of complete sonic ruin channelling the darkness of black metal with the scathing immensity of defining post-industrial acts like Brighter Death Now, Godflesh, Wolf Eyes, Swans, MZ. 412, Controlled Bleeding, and Genocide Organ. As the band's name aptly hints at, Uranium was conceived as an aural vessel to explore the outer limits and the most irreversible states of complete human disintegration, and the incineration of its most defining and triumphant achievements; namely society, progress, technology, and civilization, with nuclear power being the conduit and ultimate engine of the greatest and most horrific forms of total annihilation mankind could ever face. Hells Headbangers is proud to present a long-overdue reissue of Unlord’s cult debut album, Schwarzwald. Formed in 1989, Unlord are widely considered among the Netherlands’ very first black metal bands, if not THE first. Although they never publicly released any demos, their three albums for the sorely missed Displeased Records – 1997’s Schwarzwald, 2000’s Gladiator, and 2002’s Lord of Beneath – stand as a nigh-untouchable trio of freezing-fire black metal incarnate. Unlord’s proud ‘n’ pure synthesis of bazooka-blown speed and violently melodic riffing reeks of late ‘90s nostalgia but also sounds remarkably fresh today, nearly 20 years after their untimely breakup. In that black metal-rich year of 1997 did Unlord unleash their debut album, Schwarzwald. Adorned with appropriately fiery cover art, Schwarzwald very much sounded – and looked – like its era, and was all the better for it. And yet, crucially, Unlord here offer a variety of songcraft across the 13-track album whilst keeping the focus on cryogenically-cold violence. What’s more, their usage of synths is sparing and tasteful, and on Schwarzwald did they set forth a sterling standard of production: remarkably clear and crisp, but not once sacrificing an iota of power.

The blitzkrieg speed of the preceding Schwarzwald is amazingly taken up a notch here, and the riffing clangs & churns with even more authority; if anything,Gladiator is the sound of Unlord at their most berserk. And yet, the icy melodicism remains, and the production is powerfully clear and crisp.

Svart Records is set to release the compilation album “Demology” by Finnish avant-garde death doom metal band Unholy. Including their early demo recordings "The Procession of Black Doom" (1990), "Demo 11.90" (1990) and "Trip to Depressive Autumn" (1992), this is the first time these demos are in the same package with exclusive liner notes.

Unholy emerged from the eastern Finnish town of Imatra in the late '80s. After changing their name from Armageddon to Holy Hell and eventually to Unholy, their mission was simple; to create harder, heavier, and slower music than their idols Black Sabbath and Celtic Frost. The lyrical themes and ideas for the songs came from Satanism, mysticism, anti-Christianity, mushroom trips, and shamanism among others. Finnish deep ecologist Pentti Linkola also inspired the band and their music. Some of the songs came up naturally by jamming riffs and others entirely by improvisation.

While the first two demos already made Unholy a force to be reckoned with, the release of “Trip to Depressive Autumn” caught the attention of the underground metal scene and various labels. The band was hungry for a recording contract, and it finally came into realization when Lethal Records released their debut album “From the Shadows” in 1993.

Limited clear/green split Vinyl.New York-based Undeath have returned from their mutilated tomb to horrify and dominate death metal's insatiable masses once again. Their blessedly sick new album, It's Time... To Rise from the Grave, shows the reconfigured quintet_Kyle Beam (guitars), Alexander Jones (vocals), Tommy Wall (bass),Jared Welch (guitars) and Matt Browning (drums)_have retained their mind-infecting sonic savagery but weren't satisfied in their pursuit to improve it through wicked (yet studied) reformulation. Certainly, Undeath's 2021 Decibel flexi, Diemented Dissection, paved the way, but it's tracks like "Fiend for Corpses," "Rise from the Grave," and "The Funeral Within" that display Undeath's terrifyingly insane trajectory.Undeath traveled to Philadelphia to record It's Time... To Rise from the Grave with Scoops Dardaris at Headroom Studios in March-April 2021. The group spent two weeks tracking_a song a day almost. Dardaris rough-mixed on the fly during the recording sessions, and then required two more weeks after to finalize the mix. Not ones to sacrifice a working team, they brought on Arthur Rizk (CreepingDeath, Enforced) to master. The sonic goal was to get a frenetic, nearly off-the-rails production, but with a discernible, if slightly lived-in line through it.Think: Cannibal Corpse's Vile (Scott Burns) mixed with Carcass' Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious (Colin Richardson).It's Time... To Rise from the Grave isn't just an early contender for death metal album of 2022_it's destined to be a modern-day classic.

Recorded at Toe Rag studios in early 2015 with engineer Liam Watson (White Stripes, Tame Impala, Electric Wizard), their fourth opus The Night Creeper, finds the quartet in full-on death-tripping, third eye-widening mode. Here songs ooze louche evil over flesh-melting riffs that creep like hot magma bubbling up through the earth’s crust at their own malevolent pace. This album is in no hurry to destroy you. In an age when the word is over-used, Uncle Acid are indeed a true cult. Everything they do is covert, their movements crepuscular, the loyalty they inspire fervent. Focused on being a hard hitting power trio that stands out in a highly saturated pool of same-sounding progressive metal, Uncanny's debut album started to emerge in 2020. At the center of this 8 track album, is the larger-than-life baritone guitar and an angelic/demonic lead guitar emulsified by a Meshuggah-loving worship drummer. Starting out as a trio jamming in 2013, while still looking for a singer and a bass player they started amplifying the baritone with both a guitar and bass amp to compensate for the lack of low end. After a short while they forwent the idea of adding any more members, forcing themselves to create instrumental music that'll make sure you won't miss neither vocals nor bass. The result is a dynamic debut album, consisting of cut-the-crap in-your-face metal as well as prog eposes, with loads of room sound and no use of drum triggers or samples at all. A Tzompantli, in bygone days, was a rack used to display human skulls, often of enemies or sacrifices, in several Mesoamerican civilizations.
