Blistering Death Thrash from Sweden's newcomers-Sarcator! Sarcator are a blackened thrash metal band that is heavily influenced by old school stylings. Simply put, they aim to evoke titans of the genre that blurred the lines between first wave Black Metal such as Bathory and Venom and the Teutonic Thrash of Sodom Get ready for their riffs, hooks, twists, and turns all through the album with slashes, stabs, impales, and burns like an extreme metal highlight reel whilst also being melodic, but just enough. Sarcator is Sweden's new hope when it comes to thrash metal. These teens from Trollhattan started out by playing Metallica covers. After working on their own material, they headed to the Studio-MT in their hometown to record their debut album, released in November of 2020. Only a few months after the release, they got nominated for Best Swedish Metal Group for the 2021 edition of the radio listeners' award, P3 Gold. Even if they didn't win, it was still significant proof that the band was on the right path and not bad for 4 guys still in high school. The music is heavily inspired by Metallica, Slayer, and the German Teutonic thrash metal wave and melodic death metal like The Crown and At The Gates. The Crown influences probably came by birth, as the line-up features The Crown’s Marko Tervonen’s son, Mateo Tervonen. This is the kind of death thrash that most old-school fans live for. You need to check this out.

For all the years to come this became a milestone album of the so-called symphonic black metal movement always being quoted and requested nonstop by fans all over the world. After the huge success of the latest 2020 album "The Death Masquerade", THE Bishop OF Hexen decided that the next one it could only be their legendary debut. Undoubtedly this is a very solid album and the atmosphere generated by the music is one which could be described as dark, epic and sometimes depressing. It makes you feel as if you were surrounded by dark castles and grim forests.. Their lyrics are a redeeming quality. The band created the stories based on an ancient legend concept created by themselves. What's there is extremely poetic and really cool to read. As well as that, there are very well placed sound effects like wolves howling, birds chirping, and wind blowing that create the perfect nighttime atmosphere. Mix that, with the heavily symphonic sound, fitting sound effects and you've got yourself a nice recipe for one of the best symphonic black metal album in time.

If you’re looking for a band that embody everything hardcore punk should be, then you’re looking for Birds in Row. Sonically, they’re fearless. Lyrically, they’re as poetic as they are recusant. And live, they’re a ruthless force, matching the power of their music with boundless, must-see energy. After debut album You, Me & the Violence sparked listeners’ imaginations, 2018 follow-up We Already Lost the World was an unyielding inferno of brazen ideas. Metal Hammer UK called it “intelligent, poignant art,” writing that “this downward spiral changes pace and weight at every turn.” It screamed for mutual respect in a world of increasingly extreme political divides, and used the vehicles of punk, post-hardcore and post-metal to carry its cries. Now comes Gris Klein. Birds in Row’s third full-length album is their most genre-bending and timely declaration yet. “Water Wings” opens, its scraping guitar strums a ticking clock, counting down to the inevitable barrage of hardcore to follow. “Noah” revs up over its six gargantuan minutes. Its singing slowly spirals into apoplectic screeches. “Trompe l’oeil” is half folk, half punk, and “Winter Yet” has no qualms about busting out seismic metal guitars at its climax. It’s an amorphous beast of an album: always unpredictable, but never out of character for this creative collective. Gris Klein’s lyrics were sculpted by the Covid-19 pandemic, eloquently summarizing the cruel and sometimes nonsensical nature of mental illness. “Trompe l’oeil”, for example, sings, “Most of the times I feel lonely are when my friends are around.” “This is the exact moment where you should feel like you’re surrounded by people you love and you’re not alone,” the band add. “It asks, ‘If I can’t feel loved in this specific moment, then when can I feel that?’” Gris Klein is a portrait of a world enduring its most chaotic era in a generation. Yet throughout, the Birds in Row manifesto is the same as it’s always been: love each other. “We really want people to know that they’re not alone, and that they can count on each other,” they say. “The way we treat each other is political. It’s OK to trust each other. All the movies about catastrophes show people turning against each other, but that’s not what would happen. When people are in the shit, they help each other. That’s what we’re trying to transmit with this record: hold each other’s hands.” Not even a world-shaking pandemic could damage Birds in Row’s invention, compassion and brutality. The Catatonics were Syracuse and Central New York’s first hardcore punk band. Besides pioneering the original 1981/1982 Syracuse Hardcore scene, their classic Hunted Down Ep/7" is considered one of the first hardcore thrash/metal crossover releases, right up there with COC or DRI and remains a sought after (and pricey) collectors item 30+ years after it's release. Often compared to Jerry's Kids, SSD, Negative Approach and even Slayer, The Catatonics weren't followers or imitators, more like period contemporaries. Although the wait has been decades in the making, Southern Lord will be reissuing Hunted Down as a 12” vinyl release with bonus tracks.

Standout favorites of Riding Easy Records’ Brown Acid compilation series, White Lightning’s stellar discography of rare and under-appreciated heavy psych, proto-metal rock gets a vital revival for new generations to learn how swinging, swaggering and often blazingly fast rock’n’roll is done. White Lightning was formed in Minneapolis, MN in 1968 by guitarist Tom “Zippy” Caplan and bassist Woody Woodrich after leaving garage psych band The Litter (themselves popular standouts from the Nuggets and Pebbles series of garage rock rarities.) Originally a power trio, the band later expanded to a five-piece in 1969 while shortening its name to Lightning. The quintet’s brilliant and rare 1970 self-titled album on Pickwick International’s P.I.P. imprint provides six of the ten tracks on Thunderbolts Of Fuzz. The original White Lightning trio only released the one 45-rpm single “Of Paupers And Poets” during their existence (on local Hexagon label in 1968, later reissued by major label Atco Records in 1969.) A long out-of-print posthumous album released in 1995 gathered unreleased recordings, three of which are found here. This rounds out this collection of recorded highlights from the band’s rocky history. Taking their name from a particularly potent type of LSD, White Lightning laid out from the start that it was not cute and cuddly ’70s rock. In fact, the band’s aggressive tempos are like punk rock way before punk. However, their dirty blues groove and musical prowess shows the band was more than unrefined ne’er-do-wells, they had true versatility.

With their sophomore full-length "Gotta Light?", dark rock innovators Crone are cruising in a high octane fuelled hotrod. Channelling their personal musical inspirations that range from Alice IN Chains, via Killing Joke, NEW Model Army, and JOY Division to Pink Floyd among many others, the Germans leave their very own and personal mark on the genre that has been brought back to the forefront of interest by acts such as Ghost in recent years. While composer, guitarist, and singer Phil Jonas had felt tired, burned out, and empty, working on new songs for Crone provided the spark that kindled the firestorm of fresh ideas and led to the creation of "Gotta Light?". The album title was inspired by the haunting eighth episode of David Lynch's masterpiece TV series "Twin Peaks". A corresponding element of the mysterious and surreal permeates all of the new songs that revolve around topics such as the hope of receiving signals from the afterlife 'Waiting for Ghosts'), shattered dreams 'Abyss Road'), and a guiding last will 'Gemini'). Crone was conceived out of a musical collaboration between Phil "sG" Jonas and Embedded drummer and guitarist Markus Renzenbrink. Both musicians wanted to explore musical horizons beyond the metal limits of their regular bands at the time. As a result the "Gehenna" EP was released in 2014 and sparked a first wave of interest. Critics labelled the first effort post-rock, post-punk, and even as shoegaze. The well-received debut full-length 'Godspeed' hit the streets in 2018 and its more focussed and consistent songs got often filed under "post-rock". With Crone having been elevated to the main band of each protagonist, the band's renewed focus and urgency is clearly audible on "Gotta Light?”. With Christian Schmidt a permanent keyboard player has been added to the line-up that now also features lead guitarist Kevin Olasz for added sparkle and sonic depth. From the ashes of Secrets OF THE Moon a dark reborn phoenix is rising with Crone and this bird of prey is ready to rock humanity's unstoppable descent into madness: "Gotta Light?"

According to an apocryphal book, the mythical character of Ahasver refused to help Jesus on his way to Golgotha. For this reason, he was denied the right to die and was condemned to wander the earth forever. This myth accompanies the entire printed history of humanity. In an age when fiction is stronger than reality, some say that the first man who will not die is already walking the earth. The eight songs of “Causa Sui” are the contribution of the band Ahasver to the continuation of this narrative. It took the Frenchmen four years to write and record their debut album. The pooling of the artistic individualities embodies the evocation of what Ahasver might have seen among the ruins of this dying world: equity, sharing, inclusion and resilience. So much for the approach of the musicians from Toulouse and their first album “Causa Sui”. In other words, Ahasver is a band that likes to work on concepts and challenging their own creativity. Involved are members of Eryn NON DAE, Gorod, Psykup, Zubrowska, Dimitree and Drawers, who with Ahasver have formed a formation that moves in the shallows of progressive metal. The field of activity of the Frenchmen cannot be narrowed down further. The quintet does not accept stylistic boundaries and likes to change its way of playing. The debut of the group on Lifeforce Records develops multilayered and along a constant reinterpretation of the composition of the heavy sounds. Tension and special moments are abundantly offered on “Causa Sui”. Interestingly, it even happens that the debut of Ahasver can be followed without any problems despite its bulky approach and is even suitable for recognizable moments.

Formed in Glasgow Scotland in 2002 as a project and quickly signed to Retribute Records in 2003, releasing their first album in 2004 entitled …start killing. Recorded in a low budget studio in Clydebank, Scotland with producer JF Dagenais making the long trip from Quebec to record/produce. Some extensive UK touring followed and the band the went on to become the first UK band ever to sign to US label Relapse Records in 2006, a 2 album deal was done and the first offering the Human Condition 2007) propelled the band onto the European stage with tours alongside Kataklysm, Aborted, Macabre, and Misery index. The Human Condition also saw the band travel to Canada for a month long stay to record once again with JF Dagenais Kataklysm) for an unforgettable adventure. It was in 2009 when Man Must Die released what was their breakthrough album No Tolerance for Imperfection, recorded by Scott ”the terminator” Atkins in England,UK. Featuring the tracks “Kill it skin it wear it” and “It Comes in Threes” which will always be mainstays in the MMD set lists. On the back of this release MMD toured with the likes of Machine Head, Hatebreed, Exodus, Decapitated and Kataklysm. Some years of set backs with Band members and life in general slowed progression after this release, some line upchanges and the band was back in the studio in 2012 to record their 4th album Peace was never an option. At this point only the founding members Joe and Alan the MMD writers) remained. The album was recorded By Micheal “Raphone” Allan now the second guitarist in Mmd) in a beaten up studio in the back of beyond in the east of Scotland. The Album was released in the UK with Grindscene records and in the Europe/world wide by Lifeforce records in Germany.

Enchantment IS Back After 25 Years! In 2019 Cosmic Key Creations issued the long overdue vinyl version of the 1994 ‘Dance The Marble Naked ‘ album by U.K. cult doomsters Enchantment. This was soon to be followed in 2020 with the reissue of the album on both CD and cassette format by Transcending Records. The renewed interest inspired the band to regroup and to set about finishing their 2nd album that was already written and composed back in 1994/5(!) but never made it to the recording stage. The band dug up the old rehearsal tapes and finished the album 25 years after the initial process. This is the album that was meant to follow up from their debut and the songs are therefore an exciting time capsule that will take you back to the heyday of the U.K.’s Death/Doom Metal scene of the early nineties.
