The Catatonics were Syracuse and Central New York’s first hardcore punk band. Besides pioneering the original 1981/1982 Syracuse Hardcore scene, their classic Hunted Down Ep/7" is considered one of the first hardcore thrash/metal crossover releases, right up there with COC or DRI and remains a sought after (and pricey) collectors item 30+ years after it's release. Often compared to Jerry's Kids, SSD, Negative Approach and even Slayer, The Catatonics weren't followers or imitators, more like period contemporaries. Although the wait has been decades in the making, Southern Lord will be reissuing Hunted Down as a 12” vinyl release with bonus tracks.

A little maturation goes a long way. Youthful energy is key to aggressive music, but it takes experience and talent to channel that energy productively. In the case of The Catalyst, they've tightened the reins on the droopy tantrums of their previous EP's. Now their music seethes, with biting lyrics to match. Eric Smith still vomits vocals like an aural exorcism, but his "singing" is stronger and more prominent in the mix. He takes aim at the rogues behind the economic meltdown ("Corner office with a view / Picture window from which you might leap to join us in the streets"), as well as Internet backbiting ("You never cite your sources when your passion is poison"). Musically, The Catalyst continue to crank out throbbing, screamy, squealing songs. They sound like the swampy middle ground between Karp and Pg. 99. Yet their members have grown into a tightly knit unit. Though sloppiness is de rigueur among bands that have rediscovered vintage Sub Pop and AmRep records, The Catalyst boast real chops and an idiosyncratic take on the form. On Swallow Your Teeth (Perpetual Motion Machine, 2009), The Catalyst control their chaos just enough to create their most cohesive work yet. Besides, can you go wrong with a song titled "Lars Ulrich's 1986 Funeral (It Should Have Been You)"?

For all the years to come this became a milestone album of the so-called symphonic black metal movement always being quoted and requested nonstop by fans all over the world. After the huge success of the latest 2020 album "The Death Masquerade", THE Bishop OF Hexen decided that the next one it could only be their legendary debut. Undoubtedly this is a very solid album and the atmosphere generated by the music is one which could be described as dark, epic and sometimes depressing. It makes you feel as if you were surrounded by dark castles and grim forests.. Their lyrics are a redeeming quality. The band created the stories based on an ancient legend concept created by themselves. What's there is extremely poetic and really cool to read. As well as that, there are very well placed sound effects like wolves howling, birds chirping, and wind blowing that create the perfect nighttime atmosphere. Mix that, with the heavily symphonic sound, fitting sound effects and you've got yourself a nice recipe for one of the best symphonic black metal album in time.

Thanatopsis (a Greek word meaning “Meditation Upon Death”) was formed towards the beginning of 1992 in the San Francisco Bay Area, producing several demo tapes and touring the surrounding area. After a long hiatus, the band regrouped in 2015 and decided to create new material, giving some of the timeless songs from the past the chance that they deserved. Based out of Iowa, Telekinetic Yeti is a two-man band that delivers sonic brutality melded with psychedelic doom wizardry, forged by the worship of the almighty riff and honed by relentless touring and dedication to their craft. Creating music as cryptically enchanting as it is heavy, you wouldn’t guess that the impressive cacophony pouring out of the speakers like molten, metal syrup is being produced by only two people. Founder and guitarist Alex Baumann explains, “Originally I decided not to have a bass player purely for logistical reasons, it was just another schedule to work around, another person who’s boss could tell us we can’t tour, but then I started seeing it as a challenge, like let’s see how heavy we can make it with just two people.” That started grabbing peoples’ attention. Relentless touring and playing pretty much any club that would have them, the band set sail on their epic voyage, selling their debut album Abominable out of their van and cutting their teeth in the underground playing hundreds of shows. All the while receiving rave reviews of their live performance as well as their first release, which landed at #2 on the doom charts and stayed right there for months. The video for “Stoned and Feathered” quickly racked up a few hundred thousand views and counting. People were starting to catch on, and soon thereafter Telekinetic Yeti would be invited to tour extensively with some of the best heavy rock bands in the business, including Clutch, Black Label Society, Red Fang and Weedeater. Now the band finds itself in a much different, auspicious position, and with the help of famed producer Phillip Cope (Baroness, Kylesa, Damad, Black Tusk et al), Telekinetic Yeti returns with their eagerly-anticipated, second full-length album, Primordial. With this release, the band takes their game to a whole new level. Primordial explores themes as diverse as evolution, sorcery, black magic and the contradictions of the gloriously uplifting yet simultaneously melancholic human condition. “I wanted to write something that was an appropriate intro to the album, that brought to mind an early earth setting and featured atmospheric elements as well as some droning, sparse simplicity and lyrically, simple imagery regarding the dawn of humankind and creation of the first tools.” explains Baumann of the title track. As it unfolds, the album evolves into a cathartic exploration turning themes into tangible sounds and haunting fugues. Says Baumann regarding the inspiration behind “Beast”: “This song is about wanting to escape the societal constraints that keep us on the wheel, toiling away, indefinitely. It’s also about questioning authority figures, or really anyone that claims to have all the answers.” Matured songwriting, creatively brutal riffs and an exercise in monstrous tones make this listen an immersive experience taking you back to explore and appreciate the primordial ooze that we all came from.

Tankard wurde 1982 gegründet und ist eine deutsche Thrash Metal Band aus Frankfurt am Main. Neben Kreator, Destruction und Sodom, zählen sie zu den „Big Four“ des deutschen Thrash Metals. Stilistisch im Thrash Metal zuhause thematisieren ihre Songs vor allem Alkohol. Mit „Zombie Attack“ veröffentlichten sie im Juli 1986 ihr erstes Album. Ein Jahr später, im Oktober 1987, folgte ihr zweites Album, „Chemical Invasion“ und 1988 „The Morning After“. Nachdem der erste Schlagzeuger, Oliver Werner, die Band verlassen hatte und durch Arnulf Tunn ersetzt wurde, erschienen die drei Alben: “The Meaning of Life”, “Stone Cold Sober” und “Two-Faced”. Zur Gleichen Zeit veröffentlichten Tankard das Live Album: „Fat, Ugly and Live“. Anschließend wechselte sich das Line Up der Band erneut. Im Mai 1994 wurde Arnulf Tunn durch Olaf Zissel ersetzt, welcher bis zum heutigen Tage die Drums spielt. Ein Jahr später sah sich ein weiteres Gründungsmitglied, Axel Katzmann, gezwungen die Band zu verlassen, aufgrund einer Arthrose Erkrankung im Handgelenk. Im selben Jahr veröffentlichte die Band „The Tankard“, welches ihr letztes Album mit Noise war. Jetzt feiert die Band ihr 40-jähriges Jubiläum, spielt Gigs auf der ganzen Welt, recorded und veröffentlicht neue Musik.

We're proud to announce renewal of our near-ten year relationship with raw black power ambient ritualists Sutekh Hexen in announcing the band's colossal new 2xLP P:R:I:S:M, a full collaboration with Canadian nightmare-weaving enigma Funerary Call (aka field recording and experimental soundscaping artist Harlow MacFarlane), to be released this summer in collaboration with our good dearest frequent co-conspirators from Europe Cyclic Law. With P:R:I:S:M, magisterial sonic-alchemists Sutekh Hexen and Funerary Call join forces to deliver a fully collaborative album of eight highly experimental tracks. Throughout this octonary journey, concepts and unseen source energies are refined into spectrums of deeper consciousness. The resulting narrative guides the listener through a vastness of (dis)charging energies, rebirth through dissolution, and harrowing harmonic passages in tremendous spaces. Inner-workings suspend transformations in time. Pushing their respective boundaries, Sutekh Hexen and Funerary Call initiate the listener with the crystalline, static miasma of the album’s opener 'Meridian Øº', only to enshroud them in the manifesting psychosis of 'Infernal Folly'. The churning mysticism of 'Perilous Shade' offers temporal sanctuary, and 'Toward the Eastern Gate' calls forth tectonic-prophecies as the album's centerpiece, tipping the scale into 'Fractal: Void'—a blistering disarmament in a storm of guitars, scathing electronics, and the disembodied calls we all anticipate and fear. 'Æscend Obsidia' tests the preceding tension and overwhelms in shimmering radiance before declaring release in 'Pangæa Ultima² (Dread)'. In late October 2019, following a successful UK tour ending in a sold-out concert at the mythical Roundhouse in London, Sunn O))) entered studio 4 of the BBC Maida Vale on invitation to record a live session for Mary Anne Hobbs to be broadcast on Samhain via her excellent radio show on Bbc6.

To enter the legendary John Peel studios was to enter a temple of music and experimentation, liberty in ideas and sound. The band was nearing the end of a long touring year around the Life Metal and Pyroclast albums.

SUNN O))) had developed the compositions extensively, embracing the formative concepts of the Life Metal album conceptually and emotionally, but actualised and evolved into vast, open and bright hypersaturated arrangements. Particularly the pieces the band chose to perform on this recording: Troubled Air and Pyroclasts. The former enriched into a total aspect of the band's ethos and form in many ways, and Pyroclasts had evolved to become all-inclusive radiation of O))).

The radiation embraces collaboration and freedom of interpretation by each player, within a structural format of the massive monuments of sound and distortion which define SUNN O))). Anna Von Hausswolf and her band had accompanied SUNN O))) on the UK leg, and Anna joined
