Finnish Heavy Metal legends, Spiritus Mortis unveil a grand–scale epic of antique Doom on 16th of September via Svart Records.

Erecting a new monolith in the halls of Doom Metal history with their fifth album The Great Seal, Spiritus Mortis certify true classic status as one of the scene’s modern greats.

There are few modern-day bands that can be uttered under the same breath as the giants of Traditional Doom and Heavy Metal like Spiritus Mortis. Formed in 1987 as Rigor Mortis they can firmly attest to having been “the first Finnish Doom Metal band”, uncovering hallowed ground before the later imitators. Carrying the banner of powerful true Metal, the likes of which stands proudly next to the masters such as Dio era Sabbath, Solitude Aeturnus and Trouble, Spiritus Mortis have established a tradition of catchy song-writing and consummate knowledge of sacred riff-craft. Synonymous with classic Finnish Doom bands like Reverend Bizarre, whose singer Albert Witchfinder intoned previous albums’ vocals, Spiritus Mortis continue to define and cement their formidable legacy. Albert’s replacement, Kimmo Perämäki is more than worthy of the consecrated robes he inherits, delivering a performance which is flawlessly dominating and instantly gratifying. Tracks like Martyrdom Operation and Visions Of Immortality see Perämäki boldly carving his own name in the stone tablets of future history, marrying the riffs of the Maijala brothers and guitarist Kari Lavila with the splendor of magnificent melancholy that Spiritus Mortis is so known and admired for.

Not only will true devotees of the Spiritus Mortis Doom church be raising their fists with full hearts, but those who seek knowledge of the faithful spirit of real Metal can surely look no further than within The Great Seal.

Liber Null, the Italian / Dutch international Black Metal band returns with their second full length album «For Whom Is The Night». Their debut album was released 6 years ago through Osmose Productions but one can say fairly that the band has come a long way when you compare both records. Their second album is so ferocious and relentless which makes it irresistible not to bang your head from start to finish. The complete record has a full sound and a lot of variating tempos which keeps the album interesting. The guitars are heavy but give a lot of room to melodies and single string moments that simply draw you in. The bass guitar is strongly present and underlines the heaviness of the guitars with the right dose to compliment the complete sound without breaking it down where the drums go from left to right, top to bottom. Fast blast beats, mid tempos, fills and the right amount of extra details on the 20” ride and other cymbals to complete the whole instrumental sound. The vocals are haunting aggressive with several nice variations in vocal sound between the vocal lines which brings only one word to mind: Brutal, Brutal, Brutal!!! Just makes you want to slam your head through a wall! Liber Null has managed to deliver an album that kicks from start to finish without breaking down into a weaker moment. Even Old School death metal fans might enjoy this record due to the heaviness of it. A record that every metal fan should have in their collection.

Hells Headbangers is proud to present a long-overdue reissue of Unlord’s cult second album, Gladiator. Formed in 1989, Unlord are widely considered among the Netherlands’ very first black metal bands, if not THE first. Although they never publicly released any demos, their three albums for the sorely missed Displeased Records – 1997’s Schwarzwald, 2000’s Gladiator, and 2002’s Lord of Beneath – stand as a nigh-untouchable trio of freezing-fire black metal incarnate. Unlord’s proud ‘n’ pure synthesis of bazooka-blown speed and violently melodic riffing reeks of late ‘90s nostalgia but also sounds remarkably fresh today, nearly 20 years after their untimely breakup. At the dawn of the new millennium did Unlord unleash their second album, Gladiator. Inspired by a great passion for Astor Piazzolla’s tango, Soul Of The Tango is a critically acclaimed and essential work of the “Nuevo Tango”, played by Yo-Yo Ma’s world famous cello and many of Piazzolla’s former friends and colleagues. Piazzolla’s old guitarists Sergio and Odair Assad even showed up to work on a pair of tracks arranged by Sergio: the “Tango Suite” (consisting of “Andante” and “Allegro”). The album begins with “Libertango”, a composition from Piazzolla’s first album that became the theme song for the movie The Tango Lesson. Following is the pair of tracks in the “Tango Suite” from Sergio Assad. Then comes “Sur: Regreso al Amor”, a softer work, though with some definite virtuosity displayed. “Le Grand Tango” is an eleven minute tour de force in the tango. “Tango Remembrances” is a particularly nice work, due to the appearance of Piazzolla’s own playing. “Milonga del Angel” is a seemingly sentimental work that shows off Piazzolla’s ability to express the emotions of a song perfectly and purely. To finish the album, Ma presents “Café 1930”, a rather slow paced work, but again, as in the previous song, expresses emotion very fully in its nostalgia. Architects have delivered their 10th studio album; an arena-ready opus entitled, the classic symptoms of a broken spirit , the follow up to their 2021 breakout album For Those That Wish To Exist, which hit #1 on the UK sales chart. Finding yourself with a UK Number One album and selling out arenas is enough for some to repeat a winning formula. Architects however, are forever moving forward. "It was definitely validating and felt really cool for like a day," recalls drummer, producer and songwriter Dan Searle of hitting the top spot with For Those That Wish To Exist. "For a lot of the bucket list things you reach in any career, there's a momentary gratification then you're like, 'What next?' You just move on. By the time the album came out, my head was already in the mindset of 'broken spirit'. That was where I was at." Searle notes how it was their albums Lost Forever/Lost Together, All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, and Holy Hell that really "cemented what the band was about" and "took them to a new level" as a rock powerhouse and leaders of the UK's metalcore scene - making it all the more "daunting" to reinvent themselves on the records that would follow. "I wanted to make this album with a different aesthetic. We were enjoying working with the synths and doing stuff that we hadn't done before." As a band who never stop writing, the kernels of the songs that make up the classic symptoms of a broken spirit were already in progress before the ink had time to dry on the artwork of their last record. Architects were on a creative roll, and the record was born of that creative freedom. Produced by Dan Searle and guitarist Josh Middleton, with additional production from frontman Sam Carter at Decon's Middle Farm Studios and their own Brighton Electric Studios before being mixed by Zakk Cervini, the band were buoyed by finally being back in a room together after their last album was made mostly remotely due to Covid restrictions. The result was something altogether more "free, playful and spontaneous," Searle explains. Carter agrees: "This one feels more live, more exciting and more fun - it has that energy. We wanted it to be a lot more industrial and electronic. That was the main mission. They can sit side-by-side: Mr. Electronic and Mr. Organic."

"Lili Refrain’s newest LP Mana lives up to its title. A combination of Anna Von Hausswolff and Burning World-era Swans" , following the words of Walter Hoeijmakers, the founder of Roadburn Festival. Each track is multifaceted and they all have a heft to them, a weight that translates well to Refrain’s multi-instrumentalist abilities. Commenting on the nature of recording process Lili states: “Mana is an album totally different from anything I've ever done before. I felt the need to experiment with the use of new instruments and take a totally new path. Compared to my previous album Mana is the most ritual in some ways”. Refrain comments on the origin of the title saying: “It means ‘life force’, power that comes from within and is dedicated to those who have found themselves consciously facing a journey, without knowing where it would have arrived or even if it would have survived.” Using very few guitars, Lili Refrain has not only distanced herself from her comfort zone but also created a danceable feel focusing on arrangements and vocal techniques. However, the work on background sounds was very deliberate , as Lili notices: “Stefano Morabito, the engineer and the owner of "16th Cellar Studio" in Rome welcomed me in his studio and had been following me throughout the production.” “Spontaneous” is probably the best description of creating the record that became Mana. “I felt the need to experiment.” – says Lili about the current evolutions and changes in her “inner gaze”. Starting with Ichor , Sangoma and Mami Wata, Lili Refrain has been going down the path of rediscovering herself as an artist and performer. Combining both heavy synths sounds and operatic heights. Pairing Taiko drum sounds of Mami Wata with her trilling and whispering, Lili Refrain manages to create a chanting and ritualistic experience. Lili Refrain will be performing Mana in its entirety on April, 21st at Roadburn festival followed by an extensive European tour that would include performances at Hellfest (fr), Rock in Burlon (fr), AMFest (sp) and Dunk! American progressive metal band Cynic's 2014 album Kindly Bent to Free Us 10 year anniversary edition out in February!

Cynic was formed in Miami, Florida by Paul Masvidal in 1987, incorporating elements of progressive rock, alternative, and metal. Their third full length offering Kindly Bent to Free Us is the final Cynic album to feature original drummer Sean Reinert and long time member Sean Malone on bass, who both passed away in 2020. Originally released on a 2LP version and mastered at 45rpm, Svart Records in co-operation with Cynic now proudly present the single LP edition of the album including a bonus track Earth Is My Witness for the first time on vinyl and a booklet with linter notes by Martin Popoff, lyrics, notation to the song Kindly Bent to Free Us, and more.

Paul Masvidal comments the reissue: “Kindly Bent to Free Us is reborn on vinyl for its 10th anniversary. This record holds a special place in my heart for many reasons. First, the songs and the journey they take, exploring inner realms as represented by the cover art. Then, there are the arrangements—raw and explosive—which R.
