The subtly-monikered Witch Vomit from Portland, OR offered Thee obscure gem of the 2016 Death Metal underground with their A Scream From The Tomb Below full length. Many took note, and now 20 Buck Spin offers the first bloody taste of a new partnership with the band in the ‘Poisoned Blood’ MLP.

Offering four new tracks + intro over 20 minutes, put simply, ‘Poisoned Blood’ is one of the most brutal recordings to come out of the Northwest in recent memory. Ranging from blasting Deathgrind, foul Finnish obscurity and liquified cannibalistic necromancy, the riffs on this MLP bubble up like slimy green rot leaking from crypt walls.

Configuracao Do Lamento is a sound riot, a trance-inducing cacophony, a body-shaking mix of percussive rhythms and bending guitars. The seventh album by São Paulo, Brazil’s Deaf Kids is harmful for the weak-minded. An experimental mile marker on the band’s journey, it is as treacherous on the ears as hypnotic to the mind. Expanding the band’s D-beat origins, these eight tracks vacillate between demonic fever dreams, orgies of acidic guitars and percussive taunting. Sometimes songs are not songs anymore, but assaults which clatter and hum like rough metallic windchimes in gale force winds.

The band was formed in 2010 in the industrial city of Volta Redonda / Rio de Janeiro as a solo fuzz-soaked blend of crust / D-beat before bass and drums were added. Seven years, seven releases, two European tours, gigs across Brazil and more than one hundred shows later, the band remains steadfast on a path of sonic mind control. Their releases explore different takes on the hypnotic rhythms that comprise D-beat. When the band moved together to São Paulo, they began to blend each member’s musical and aesthetic taste with a common interest in mesmerizing grooves and psychedelic rhythms from around the globe. They now produce overwhelming, sensory-driven dirges that carry a Brazilian (and Latin American) imprint. Deaf Kids is the legitimate bastard child of colonial chaos—trapped here and there, between both complementary and opposing worldviews, trying to balance the intensity and conflicted human condition.

Since 2008, Sutekh Hexen have turned the paradigm of black metal completely on its ear. Founded in 2014 out of a mutual interest in deranged and punishing sounds, Seattle’s Hissing is often described as “blackened sludge.” This does little justice describing the harsh, dissonant soundscapes created by this trio. To date they have released two EPs through Disorder Recordings and Southern Lord, and have a full-length forthcoming.

Powerflo is a rap metal band formed in 2017, consisting of Cypress Hill rapper Sen Dog, guitarists Billy Graziadei (Biohazard) and Roy Lozano (ex-downset.), bassist Christian Olde Wolbers (ex-Fear Factory) and Worst drummer Fernando Schaefer.

The band's history can be traced back to the 1990's, where the band members would often collaborate - such as Cypress Hill and Biohazard performing on the famous Judgment Night soundtrack, or Wolbers and Lozano appearing in Cypress Hill albums Skull & Bones and Stoned Raiders. In 2015, Lozano played some demos to Sen Dog on a ride to the airport, setting the foundations for Powerflo.

The name of the band comes from a comment Roy Lozano made about Sen Dog's vocal tracking for the upcoming album. Describing their sound as a "cross between Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Cypress Hill", they first unveiled the group on March 1, 2017 while recording their self-titled debut album. On May 2 2017, they released the first single "Resistance" via Metal Injection. In launching the first single, Sen Dog indicated that this is a long term project and that future Powerflo albums will be released after their self-titled is released.

Summoned to play it the old way in a new age, Trondheim, Norway quintet Dunbarrow draws inspiration from freezing winter nights, unpolished demo tapes from the 70s and the Swedish throwback rock from the beginning of the 21st century. The result is Norwegian proto-doom with a back-to-basics sound, from Pentagram and Witchfinder General to Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Dunbarrows clean, unadorned sound shares the unpretentious brilliance of classic heavy progenitors playing basements and bans, before the big budgets and bloated habits diluted hard rock into an echo chamber awash in reverb and layered in distant, screeching hobbits. The bands 9-track self-titled album is a classic in the sense that every song becomes instantly recognizable after just one listen.

With lyrics like the clever paean to a young witch mothers birth of Lucifers Child, Dunbarrow has a wealth of gloomy sentiments: Can you understand my young mothers plight / Away from the comforts that burn at the stake / She gave birth to a venomous snake / On her great pyre she smiled / For she carried Lucifers child.

Dunbarrow is based in the far northern Norwegian city Trondheim, but is originally from Haugesund on the west coast of Norway. The band has been playing together for over 8 years through different band names and genres. In 2014, vocalist Espen Andersen joined the band upon the departure of original singer/bassist Richard Chappell. Sondre Berge went from playing drums to playing bass. Kenneth Lnning and Eirik vregrd are still on the guitars, with Pl Gunnar Dale taking over the drums permanently in 2016. Espen Andersen recorded and mixed the debut album at Stoy Studios. Dunbarrow is hitting the studio for their second album this summer.

San Francisco’s Succumb plumbs the depths of modern death metal with primitive elegance, but what sets them apart from their peers is vocalist Cheri Musrasrik. The juxtaposition of death metal riffing and propulsive drums with Musrasrik’s cavernous howl and sophisticated lyrics make a unique listening experience in today’s crowded landscape.

The band was formed in 2014 by a group of friends with diverse musical backgrounds who share a common love for Canadian death metal, war metal, and 1990s Napalm Death. That same year they released a demo under the name Cloak and played a handful of local shows, attracting the attention of The Flenser. From Horten, Norway emerges the black metal band Nidingr – a band that’s been in the scene all the way since 1992. Since then, Nidingr has released 1 demo and 3 albums and played on the biggest metal festivals all over the world. Nidingr is a band that let themselves grow naturally over time and when they release an album it’s in good belief that it’ll be a great contribution to the top tier world of metal music.
They are now releasing their fourth album on Feb 10th 2017, titled “The High Heat Licks Against Heaven”. An album drenched in Norse mythology, and names from the younger and older Edda appears throughout in the lyrics. The album drifts in the middle of black and death metal, but with the Norse theme it creates a unique and fresh breath of sound. To put it mildly, this is a brutal and honest metal record. The album was being worked on intensely for two years, where they took a deep dive into the old English translations of the older and younger Edda from the 18th century. They are continuously striving towards authenticity and shapes the music partly around the theme and the text material, which in broad terms talks about the great and classical themes like death, afterlife, war and the many majestic personalities from the mythology.
The songs are characterized by heavy riffs in a glassy but dirty sound, with at times some melodies with melancholic atmospheres, steady tempo with an almost marching undertone. The vocals hang on in the top of the sound wall with a drive, power and quality one rarely hears. With Cpt.Estrella Grasa on vocals, Teloch (Mayhem, Gorgoroth, God Seed) on guitar, Destructhor (Myrkskog, Morbid Angel) on backing vocals (guitar), Myrvoll on drums and SIR (Gaahls Wyrd, Trelldom, God Seed) on bass, the music is shaped to a monolith of an album in an unmitigated an authentic style.

ENGLEMAKER is a raging hardcore / punk / metal band from Oslo city east, where the moon is cold and riding the subway is fucking terrifying. Formed by four old, jaded assholes on the onset of the seemingly endless winter of 2012/13, hell-bent on being the heaviest, least jocular hardcore / punk / metal band in Europe and wiping the floor with a continent of haircut enthusiasts, scenester wimps and snot-nosed Internet forum dildos. We’re pleased to present the third of three classic Century Media vinyl reissues from Warbringer. The next generation’s thrash metal force Warbringer have built a commendable reputation for themselves with heralded albums and consistent touring supporting some of the biggest names in metal. We’re pleased to present a limited 500 copy run of this blue/green vinyl version with loads of extras in an expanded package 2013’s Warbringer IV: Empires Collapse showcased the band aiming to diversify their sound and taking chances by expanding boundaries by continuing to bring in more influences from black metal to punk to industrial in a overall more experimental and free effort that was initially met with mixed reactions but has become a favorite amongst many in the band’s fanbase. Continuing to work with producer Steve Evetts (Sepultura, Hatebreed, Symphony X) the band opted for a different mix and enlisted Brett Eliason (Pearl Jam, Avenged Sevenfold) who brought a cleaner and different approach to the traditional thrash band. Staples include “The Turning of the Gears,” “Hunter-Seeker,” “Black Sun, Black Moon” and the epic “Towers of the Serpent.” The reissue adds the band’s take on the Led Zeppelin classic “Communication Breakdown.” Touring continued with notable supports to Overkill and Kreator in the US and Iced Earth in Europe.
