As with a choice few truly great bands, the first self-financed cassette recording by Cathedral - made available in October 1990 - was a pioneering underground masterpiece in its own right; the sound of a young band exploring its newfound chemistry, finding confident variations on a flawless list of influences and cultivating a sound and style that would prove hugely inspirational throughout the 1990s and beyond, being a major influence on everyone from Electric Wizard through to Reverend Bizarre.
Where most demos are little more than a dry run for the first album, "In Memoriam" still has its own distinct and important identity in the Cathedral canon. The debut LP that followed, "Forest Of Equilibrium", has a sombre, devout, melodic and mystical grandeur all of its own - but 'In Memoriam' has a far murkier, earthier, more deathly intent. Creepy, cryptic and bowel-looseningly heavy, it represents the first time that the doom metal stylings of Trouble, Saint Vitus, Pentagram and Witchfinder General had been rendered in a new, more extreme metallic form. At the beginning of the new decade, it was really only Cathedral who were proud to assert the influence of true doom metal - a perennially unfashionable genre, but especially in a turn-of-the-decade metal scene so obsessed with speed, technicality, brutality and modernity.

Dubbed after a French expression to describe a sense of profound discontentment, the idea of losing the taste for life, Red Rot’s Mal de Vivre was written, recorded and mixed between October 2020 and May 2021 as the world was reeling in the throes of pandemic. Featuring eclectic drummer Ron Bertrand and bass virtuoso Ian Baker to flesh out their powerhouse of cutting-edge extreme metal, Red Rot are an emerging force to be reckoned with.

The seventeen songs in Mal de Vivre are musically intense, raw and passionate, but with a multi-faceted elegance that envisages Red Rot appealing to fans of radical and heavy music right across the spectrum. Engorged with elements of Death Metal, Doom and Thrash: Mal de Vivre sounds like a twisted blend of the roots of early Morbid Angel and Paradise Lost with the experimental discord of Voivod and the hardcore clash and klang of bands like Converge. Lorusso’s lyrics on Mal de Vivre explore themes of mental illness, psychological deviance, rage, gloom and paranoia, all delivered with agonized and emotional conviction.

Clocking in at the perfect 38 minute mark, the songs on Red Rot’s Mal de Vivre alternate between one minute bursts and three minute nightmares resulting in a fervent but cathartic listening experience.

That Mal de Vivre is such a well developed and conceived debut album should be no surprise to fans of Tiso and Lorusso’s earlier work, but newcomers to Red Rot’s fungal network of dominating putrefaction have oozing spoils to savor once this album drops.

Finnish Heavy Metal legends, Spiritus Mortis unveil a grand–scale epic of antique Doom on 16th of September via Svart Records.

Erecting a new monolith in the halls of Doom Metal history with their fifth album The Great Seal, Spiritus Mortis certify true classic status as one of the scene’s modern greats.

There are few modern-day bands that can be uttered under the same breath as the giants of Traditional Doom and Heavy Metal like Spiritus Mortis. Formed in 1987 as Rigor Mortis they can firmly attest to having been “the first Finnish Doom Metal band”, uncovering hallowed ground before the later imitators. Carrying the banner of powerful true Metal, the likes of which stands proudly next to the masters such as Dio era Sabbath, Solitude Aeturnus and Trouble, Spiritus Mortis have established a tradition of catchy song-writing and consummate knowledge of sacred riff-craft. The group was formed by Amadeus Galiano (electric guitars), Emilia Moncayo (voice/sampling) and Filippo Brandrimarte (drums) in Bologna, Italy, in 2012 maintaining this lineup until the return to Ecuador. In December 2016, the band was joined by Carlos Sánchez, the actual drummer of the band, in 2017. It is an experimental metal project influenced by math, breakcore and Latin music that mixes polyrhythmic structures with minimalist guitar riffs. Emilia and Amadeus initially created the band with the idea of making a thrash metal band, however, it evolved into a somewhat different style. Complicated grooves as well as aggressive and suddenly demented vocal lines resulted in an exposition of Latin American rhythms in their most brutal form. The pro-ject is essentially a mixture between thrash, djent and experimental metal. In 2017 the band signed with the record label Subsound Records and released their first album Imago.

First time on vinyl!!! Juno Nominated Lindsay Schoolcraft composes and performs Ethereal Gothic music exploring orchestral soundscapes and heavy metal. From the small city of Oshawa, Canada, Lindsay is a hauntingly enchanting Singer, Harpist, and Pianist, and was presented with the 2021 Oshawa Music Award for Artist of the Year. Releasing her own solo work since 2010 with the debut full length metal album Martyr, co-written by Grammy Award Winner Rocky Gray Formerly Evanescence), releasing in 2019, and her harp-driven, orchestral offering Worlds Away in 2020. Her music is elegant and yet powerful, delivering a compelling sound fuelled by raw emotion. Lindsay’s style prevails effortlessly through every composition whether focusing solely on orchestral instrumentation or delving into the realms of heavy music. Lindsay received her musical education from established vocal instructors, the Royal Conservatory of Music Toronto), and briefly at York University for Opera and Theory studies. She continues today to study in the fields of business, musical theory, and music production. Lindsay works with a wide variety of artists and different sub-genres in metal. She has recently featured on gothic-metalcore hitmakers Motionless IN WHITE’s “Cyberhex”, hardcore outfit Cancer Bats’ “Hail the Acoustic Destroyer”, black/folk metal artist MYRKUR’s single “Rivers Blessed” on harp, and released “Stolen Light” with Sarah Jezebel Deva. Lindsay embraces the creativity of musicians around the world leading to the production of some extraordinary collaborations. From 2013-2020 Lindsay was the live Keyboardist and Backing Vocalist for British Extreme Gothic Heavy Metal band Cradle OF Filth. In 2014 she was recognized as a full-time member and appeared on the albums “Hammer of The Witches” 2015) and “Cryptoriana: The Seductiveness of Decay” 2017) both released under Nuclear Blast Records. “I’m so proud and deeply honoured that I got to be part of Cradle of Filth’s legacy for the time I was present.”

Hailing from Hungary and proudly performing in their mother tongue, ROTHADAS made their public debut in 2019 with a self-titled demo tape for ME SACO UN OJO. A two-song work totaling 16 minutes, Rothadás suggested - and strongly - that the selfsame band had a staunchly ancient-minded vision of death metal but by no means were blinkered by the past. Here, ROTHADAS erect an eerily shimmering monument of slimy, oftdoomy DEATH METAL: for maniacs, by maniacs, young and old and everyone in between. Armed with an absolutely crushing production, the band's first full-length betrays an eternal wisdom by maximizing the basics as well as nodding to various eras and locales of death metal but only subtly - immersion rather than extraction, and addition by subtraction, tastefully so in both regards. HYPERDONTIA is a name that needs little introduction. In 2018 this Turkish-Danish Death Metal machine unleashed "A Nexus Of Teeth" which proved to be some of the most astounding Death Metal of recent years, earning the band a huge amount of respect. Along with a couple of EP's and a split with MORTIFERUM, we have seen the quality of their music remain consistently high. Now they return with their 2nd full length opus "Hideous Entity". The 40 minute length of the LP spans 8 songs, each of which proves to be a wondrous affair of punishing heaviness in its own right, but the sheer brutality and capability of HYPERDONTIA's songwriting / musical talent can only be truly unlocked when listening to "Hideous Entity" as a whole. Aptly titled, this distorted configuration of sounds is utterly abysmal in the best possible way. All of the instruments and vocals alike work in unison to provide a stoic and barbaric yet intricate tapestry of decimating sounds and contorted atmospherics. Precision is of course key, as has always been the case, with every riff or beat or growl feeling deliberate in its conviction. No second is wasted nor ideas linger past their welcome, this entity transcends through so many juxtaposing qualities with sadistic pleasure, as its volatility will throw you into a whole new abyss of demonic soundscapes. HYPERDONTIA return with triumph and glory on their most blazon display of morbid music to date.

Their first EP Athens (2012, Casket Music) portrays an already mature band playing modern prog rock influenced by Tool and Deftones. Their debut full-length In Time With Gravity (2017) shows the band in full flux, experimenting with extended compositions as well as influences from influential contemporary electronic music acts like Modeselektor and Moderat.PLAYGROUNDED's sophomore album lives up to the aspiration of its lofty album title. The death of Death is music that results from mastery rather than lacklustre exploration and experimentation. The album was recorded at MD Recording Studios by Nikos Michalodimitrakis, long collaborator of Stavros in film productions. Mixing was handled by C.A.Cederberg (Leprous, Anathema, Shining, and more) in Kristiansand, NO, while the album was mastered by George Tandero (Madrugada, Satyricon, Jaga Jazzist, and more) in Oslo, NO.TDOD is a collection of songs that reveal PLAYGROUNDED as composers in the act of decomposition. The memorable guitar riffs and vocal melodies serve as gateways to a deeper layer of glitchy synth textures and liquid drumming, until the perspective of radical decomposition consumes one whole. Dying Victims Productions is proud to present the long-awaited fourth album of Germany’s Nocturnal, Serpent Death, on CD, vinyl LP and music cassette formats.

A veritable institution, Nocturnal have been flying the flag of hate and inciting a riot of violence since the year 2000. Helmed by founding guitarist Avenger (whose other credits are far too vast to list here), Nocturnal set about their prolific course with a flurry of demo tapes and splits with the likes of Nunslaughter, Vomitor, Bestial Mockery, and Toxic Holocaust among others, all culminating in their momentous Arrival of the Carnivore debut album in 2005. Back then, hailing the old Teutonic gods of thrash – namely the “Big Three” of Sodom, Kreator, and Destruction, but not withstanding Deathrow, Assassin, Exumer, Darkness, Violent Force, and Necronomicon as well as Razor and early Sepultura abroad – was rather unfashionable, but it was Nocturnal who had the last laugh, as the second worldwide thrash resurgence was about to begin, and there they stood, undaunted and defiant.

Thereafter, Nocturnal continued to honor the old underground ways with another flurry splits and vinyl EPs, before second LP Violent Revenge arrived in 2009. Thus far, Nocturnal’s albums were more finely honed and better-produced expressions of those prolific UG releases, and they kept apace with that schematic through the release of their third LP, Storming Evil, in 2014. By then, lineup troubles had begun to plague the band and slow their momentum, and thereafter was all quiet on the Western front. But at long last, the ultimate revenge arrives with Serpent Death!

New studio album of the most legendary traditional heavy metal band of Greece! Formed in 1984, Spitfire is the most legendary heavy metal band of Greece. The debut album "First Attack" (released by EMI in 1987) stands at the top of the greatest metal albums coming from the country and has built a strong following over the decades worldwide. At the same time, the band suffered a major blow when original singer Dinos Costakis was seriously injured in a car accident. Spitfire had everything going for them until that day and the tragic accident that forced Dinos to retire from the stage. Over the course of one night, his emotional voice became metal history before he even reached his peak. Despite adversity, Spitfire found the strength to go on but a few more problems rooted in the music industry led the band’s career in a dark period while they were also pushed to change the name to Speedfire for a while, releasing the live album "100% Live" in 1990. With important line-up changes and the Spitfire moniker back in the mid-90s the legend was growing and the act kept performing live and released the second studio album "Die Fighting" in 2009.

Pessimist became recognised for their unique brand of brutal and technical Black/Death Metal, with old-school thrash influences, an emphasis on quality songwriting, powerful live shows and a dark, evil sound. The band is currently writing music for the next full-length album, ‘Keys to the Underworld’.
