That’s what crossover thrash band High Command say, having turned heads with their debut album Beyond The Wall of Desolation (2019). But it’s not solely metal music which influences the band, who cite the lustful violence of Robert E. Howard, Michel Moorcock, Jack Vance and many other legendary pulp writers of the 20th century as an impetus for their expansive storytelling. “People would also be surprised to hear we drew quite a bit of inspiration from the music of Ennio Morricone, especially in regards to writing some more of the epic, grandiose passages and chord progressions.” says the band. Now, with their second album, Eclipse of the Dual Moons, the band take their love of storytelling a step further, deepening and widening the world of Secartha, the realm of High Command’s songs. The band place themselves as omniscient narrators of the world they have created, and say that they are inseparable from Secartha and its people. “It’s one thing to make a good metal record, but it’s another to put on top of it a sort of overarching story that makes sense to listeners. The whole High Command project is enriched by lyrics articulating characters, a world, and trials faced within it. We want our records to be immersive and leave listeners with a feeling they’ve experienced something bigger than the music.” It’s not just a question of widening the world, which the band first started exploring on The Secartha Demos (2016); Eclipse of the Dual Moons sees High Command honing their process to a fine art “it’s like we started with chiseling a rock… this record is the moment the rock in question begins to look like an actual sculpture.”

Growing up with Bathory’s epic era in their hearts it was inevitable that the music Ereb Altor were to create was going to be influenced by their house gods. So with Bathory’s anthems as their spiritual foundation they set out to create an own branch of the so called ”Epic Viking metal” genre. However a few years after the inception of the band it went on hiatus and only after more than a decade Mats and Ragnar decided to breathe new life into their sleeping beauty. A recording was done late 2003 with some of the over ten years old songs (slightly modified). The demo was named “Awakening”. The songs were put online for people to listen and it was also pressed in aprox 100 copies with a color layout. The response was great but nevertheless n proper album was never unleashed, and the years passed... But in early 2007 Mats and Ragnar heeded the call from the one eyed old man and went into studio Apocalypse in Gävle to record a full-length album, without having a record deal, hoping that someone was willing to release it. Needless to say we at I Hate jumped at the chance, cause this is first class heavy metal, meaningful, epic, heavy, melodic, melancholic and true to the style created by Bathory, Scald and Doomsword with elements of Candlemass and Isole. Inspired by a great passion for Astor Piazzolla’s tango, Soul Of The Tango is a critically acclaimed and essential work of the “Nuevo Tango”, played by Yo-Yo Ma’s world famous cello and many of Piazzolla’s former friends and colleagues. Piazzolla’s old guitarists Sergio and Odair Assad even showed up to work on a pair of tracks arranged by Sergio: the “Tango Suite” (consisting of “Andante” and “Allegro”). The album begins with “Libertango”, a composition from Piazzolla’s first album that became the theme song for the movie The Tango Lesson. Following is the pair of tracks in the “Tango Suite” from Sergio Assad. Then comes “Sur: Regreso al Amor”, a softer work, though with some definite virtuosity displayed. “Le Grand Tango” is an eleven minute tour de force in the tango. “Tango Remembrances” is a particularly nice work, due to the appearance of Piazzolla’s own playing. “Milonga del Angel” is a seemingly sentimental work that shows off Piazzolla’s ability to express the emotions of a song perfectly and purely. To finish the album, Ma presents “Café 1930”, a rather slow paced work, but again, as in the previous song, expresses emotion very fully in its nostalgia. Originally released in July of 2021, “The Dark Parade” marked the influential San Francisco crossover thrash metal act Mordred’s first full-length release in over 25 years. The record was the follow-up to the group's 2020 comeback EP “Volition,” and their first full-length since 1994's “The Next Room.” Due to overwhelming demand with the first vinyl pressing quickly selling out, M-Theory Audio has reissued a second pressing which will be available on limited-edition (300 copies) colored vinyl (black with red splatter). Mordred was formed in 1984 as the burgeoning Bay Area thrash scene was beginning its rise to global prominence. While mosh-inducing thrash formed the basic blueprint of their sound, Mordred stood out as a unique presence thanks to their integration of funk, alternative and hip-hop influences. The group was one of the first metal bands to explore those diversities, but as the dexterous bass performance of Art Liboon and innovative turntable work from band collaborator Aaron “DJ Pause” Vaughn provided a new spin on the thrash metal genre, Mordred retained their metallic bark thanks to groove-laden shred from guitarists Danny White and James Sanguinetti and energetic shout-along choruses spearheaded by vocalist Scott Holderby. That combination of thrash metal and exploratory funk powered three full-lengths on Noise Records between 1989 and 1994, from their revered debut “Fool's Game,” to their even more eclectic sophomore follow-up “In This Life,” through their final – until now – record, “The Next Room.” “The Dark Parade” is Mordred's first album in over twenty-five years, and first since their 2013 reunion. Their new album features five-sixths of the personnel from the group's acclaimed 1991 record “In This Life,” plus new drummer Jeff Gomes (formerly of Fungo Mungo and Mirv). The new record showcases the band's revitalized energy and classic sound, and their varied influences allow their music to sound as fresh now as it did during the group's initial decade of existence.

The 1983 demo from Oregon metalheads Sat'yr. "Keizer Oregon, McNary High School Students. They got together in middle school, played their first gig at an assembly. They were notorious for booze and weed weekend long benders at the guitarist MIKE’s dad’s house in suburban Keizer. Sex and Booze crazed kids who barely got through high school. They started playing around Salem and Portland. ‘B.A.B.E.’ is an acronym for Blonde at Both Ends which was written for the bass players girl, Tina (also, probably not coincidentally, the name of a porno VHS that was floating around at the time). Obvious influences were Dio / Gillan era Sabbath, W.A.S.P., Motley Crue etc… The guitar player Mike went on to play drums with glam / hair metal band Diamond Tuck, punk band Bizarre Piss, and Phoenix Thunderstone in Portland and SF. He died of a heroin o.d. in the early 2000s. The drummer Kyle is still in Keizer and owns an art supply company that employs the other two remaining members. The EP was recorded by Dwyane or Duane Sheets in Salem, OR.. These were the only songs put down on tape." Edition of 500 copies.
