When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light, originally released in January 2019, is an album weighty with layers of sorrow. Dealing with the passing of Juha Raivio’s partner Aleah Stanbridge and a personal journey from darkness to the light, it is also essentially tied together with the albums by Hallatar and Trees of Eternity, on which Svart and Raivio worked together.

Thus we saw it fitting to license and release a limited vinyl edition of this very special Swallow the Sun album. It comes with gold foil printing on the cover as originally envisioned by the artist, and is limited to 500 copies on black wax and 500 on special “black smoke” vinyl.

Norway’s Halcyon Days are back, in-your-face, bringing forth an incredibly fresh metalcore sound! With aggressive metalcore riffs, punchy breakdowns and an overall melodic hardcore vibe, Halcyon Days remind of the very best days that bands like Architects and While She Sleeps had in their early years, while delivering a stellar production Based out of Oslo, Norway, Halcyon Days are a hard-hitting melodic metal band. Since their beginning in 2012, they have released two EP’s, and two albums. Their debut album 'elevate' was frequently playlisted and recommended on Norway’s national radio, NRK P3. Two years after their debut album, they released their self-titled EP in 2016, scoring more than 350k total streams on digital platforms. The EP was met with an amazing response worldwide, putting the band on the map outside of Norway. The band signed with Indie Recordings and released their second full-length album, titled "Rain Soaked Pavements & Fresh Cut Grass" in 2018. Cosmos is an energetic and playful mission into a dreamy and atmospheric prog metal soundscape. And getting there has been a journey. “We started out talking about the vision we all had in mind of what we wanted to do this time around. How we wanted the instruments to sound, the way we wanted to orchestrate and arrange the music, how we wanted it to be played, what kind of energy and landscape we were looking to capture and how we wanted the production to reflect our music. We met each day for two weeks sketching out rough ideas and demos for a song a day. Then the process of selecting the pieces we wanted to develop into songs. It was a big part to have the pieces available on our phones, so when we were out-and-about we could listen to them and get a sense if it worked or not. It was often decided if the hook was memorable or if one of us had an idea on how to develop the track further” - Navian Whilst working on Cosmos it was essential for Navian to stay open in their approach to the music and let it form freely. Stepping away from the stereotypical purist thought pattern that often rule the genre. The album is as such a result of the individual members combined background and influences, where their unified love for modern progressive metal meets and entwines with elements from pop, hip hop, and jazz. Compared to previous releases, Navian has also made a major leap when it comes to the production and the recording with Cosmos. “We feel like Cosmos has helped us solidify our expression and our voice. But there is also the element of absolution, regeneration, elevation, transcendence in the face of death. Consolamentum is dense, rich and lush and yet somehow feels starved and deprived. With debut album Nord (2006) and sophomore release Ausserwelt (2010), the band made themselves a name in the European avant-metal scene. Extensive tours of Europe, North America and Russia in 2013 and 2014, including two appearances at Roadburn festival, Hellfest and a spectacular performance in a 17th Century fortress in the Carpathian mountains introduced them to a broader and quickly growing international audience. The cinematic scope of their music implies that Year OF NO Light are a group of artists that pay a great deal of attention to their visual representation, from the classy album artworks and merch designs to the carefully designed lighting design of their live show. With their seminal 3rd album Tocsin, released in 2013, Year OF NO Light reached the peak of their career thus far - a logical decision that Consolamentum was made with the same team again: recorded and mixed by Cyrille Gachet at Cryogene in Begles / Bordeaux, mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side. "We wanted this album to sound as organic and analog as possible", comments the band. "All tracks were recorded live. Illt is the alter ego of Norwegian composer and guitarist Roy Westad. It’s an uncompromising sandbox and a culmination of decades of passion and love for extreme metal as an art form. His debut album ‘Urhat’ features session musicians from Megadeth, Soilwork, Chrome Division and Nile. The album was mixed by Kurt Ballou @ Godcity and mastered by Grammy winning engineer Alan Douches. Roy started out as a guitarist before establishing himself as a film composer back in 2008. Since then, he has been involved in countless film and TV projects, and received the Norwegian Emmy for Best Original Score in 2014. But he always held extreme metal close to his heart. In some ways, things are now coming full circle. His background as a guitarist helped form his style as a film composer, and his film scoring career has helped in developing the form of Illt. Now he’s ready to unleash his debut 'Urhat' (meaning something like 'ancient hate' in Norwegian) on the world, and with him on the album he has Dirk Verbeuren on drums (Megadeth), Speed Strid on vocals (Soilwork), as well as lead guitarists Karl Sanders (Nile) and Mr.Damage from Chrome Division. The album is an eclectic yet seamless blend of groovy and blackened death/thrash/doom/rock. Brutal yet melodic, modern yet raw.

THE Absence first burst onto the scene in 2005 with their crushing, Erik Rutan-produced Metal Blade debut, “From Your Grave.” The album and its two follow-ups, 2007’s “Riders of the Plague” and 2010’s “Enemy Unbound,” showcased a perfect mixture of heart-wrenching melodies and skull-pounding aggression, truly making them one of the premiere bands of the melodic death metal scene. THE Absence further cemented their reputation via numerous tours supporting some of the biggest names in metal, including Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Amon Amarth, Sabaton, Goatwhore, Evergrey, Malevolent Creation, Kataklysm and Destruction. Following a lengthy hiatus, the band regrouped in 2016 with a new lineup uniting founding members Stewart and Kling with longtime bassist Leon and guitarists Nordberg and Joey Concepcion for "A Gift for The Obsessed." The Florida-based melodic death metal quartet THE Absence have now unveiled a music video for their new song, “Choirs of Sickness.”

Behold the Visions of Trismegistos! After nine long years stirring the cauldron in the underground, Nekromantheon finally re-emerged from the depths with their most ferocious record to date! Visions of Trismegistos is a long-awaited metal assault, bringing forth the spirit of old metal once again. Recorded in Chaka Khan Studio and various locations around Oslo by the members of Nekromantheon themselves, using mostly old, analog equipment to get that warm, genuine sound. Visions of Trismegistos feels like a lost opus from the glory days of the 80’s, when Thrash, Death and Black metal was merged into one unholy trinity. Yet, it is a fresh and vital testament of a band at the height of their abilities, that stand out amongst their peers. With the Visions of Trismegistos, Nekromantheon are ready to resurrect the ways of the ancient with their fresh take on old school extreme metal! Nekromantheon started out in early 2005 with only one goal in mind: To play fast, evil and dirty thrash metal in the way of the old gods. Influenced by the classics of Slayer, Sadus, Kreator, Dark Angel and Sepultura, they unleashed their attack on modern metal. In 2012, Nekromantheon released their second record, “Rise, Vulcan Spectre” elevating the level of ferocious, darkened Thrash metal to unknown heights. The release was an unholy offering to summon the old ways of metal, being held up to underground classics from the 80’s. It was an intense, analog sounding record that showed no mercy. Rise, Vulcan Spectre was met with raving reviews and went on to receive a Grammy for Best Metal album 2012. Nekromantheon, unaffected by the “success”, continued to play underground concerts and festivals that they deemed suited for their concept, and continued to keep a low profile throughout the years, playing selected shows and slowly working on new material. As the members were active and creative in bands like Obliteration, Black Viper, Flight, Deathhammer etc, and they have an extremely self-critical way of writing music within Nekromantheon, the follow up record took years and years before it materialized. We believe it’s worth the wait!

Svart Records set to release the 10 year anniversary edition of Voivod's Target Earth. 2LP edition, including a booklet with photos and extra graphics. The limited Svart exclusive colorway comes with a slipmat.

Target Earth is the thirteenth studio album, and the sixteenth release overall, by the Canadian heavy metal band Voivod, which was originally released in 2013. This is the first Voivod studio album to feature Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain on guitar (replacing the late Denis "Piggy" D'Amour) and the only one since 1991's Angel Rat with Jean-Yves "Blacky" Thériault on bass.

The main songwriters on Target Earth were Jean-Yves "Blacky" Theriault, in his first songwriting credit with Voivod since 1991, and Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain, who replaced Piggy. As Michel "Away" Langevin explained, Mongrain's role was both challenging and natural: "He had to think from his point of view how Voivod should sound like nowadays...He learned to play guitar listening to Voivod, and he knows all the albums, he's a fan of all the eras, so it feels very natural for him to write Voivodian material."

The Body has been an iconic force in heavy music for over 2 de- cades with a long history of collaborations. Recent collaborators include Bummer, Full of Hell, Thou, Uniform. Big| Brave have a singular voice in heavy music, honed over 5 albums The Body and Big|Brave are both bands possessed with an unequaled ability to convey overwhelming weight with simplicity, repetition, and detailed sonic atmospheres; artists who continue to alter the definition of what it means to be a heavy band. The Body are consistently prolific while increasingly ambitious as untethered producers and collaborators. Big|Brave shape sound with dense waves of guitar and feedback, minimalist and hypnotic crashes, and emotionally exacting vocal melodies. In collaboration, The Body and Big|Brave shift the gravity of their compositions to woven layers of percussion and unspooling guitars that sprawl through stark frameworks of earthy folk. Their debut collaborative album Leaving None But Small Birds distills the two ensembles' pioneering approach to heavy music into psalms for the forgotten, threnodies of lost love, and odes to vengeance. Typical to The Body's creative process, Leaving None But Small Birds was composed almost entirely in the studio at Machine With Magnets with engineer/producer Seth Manchester. The Body and Big|Brave aimed to challenge themselves to craft a fully realized and cohesive work that strayed outside the boundaries of the music they make individually. The Body's Lee Buford set up the initial challenge: collaborating to make an album that evoked the country and folk roots of The Band. Big|Brave's Robin Wattie compiled lyrics and melodic lines from across Appalachian, Canadian, and English hymns and folk songs. Select phrases were then reworked and precisely arranged to center the experiences of marginalized characters, victims of hardship, and those yearning for love within each story. The despair and empowerment of these traditional tunes draw remarkable parallels with each group's focus on championing people often cast aside in history. The Body and Big|Brave, following a folk tradition, make each song their own through shifts in perspective and a synthesis of passages from kindred tales. Big|Brave's roots as a minimalist folk band and The Body's love of old-time, country blues, and folk music enable the quintet to strike a formidable balance between sorrowful lamentation and uplifting resolve to weighty effect. With the highly revered Norwegians remaining ever-dedicated to the art of the riff after 35 years of existence, Darkthrone returns for album number nineteen and a new dose of Metallic godliness. On the back of 2019’s triumphant Old Star opus, the duo of Nocturno Culto & Fenriz present a 41 minute maelstrom of Epic Black Heavy Metal across five sprawling compositions. Organic and dynamic, the album is an exploration of the finest vintage Metal and the best of Doom, all delivered in the unmistakable Darkthrone style (whilst also incorporating instruments such as the Moog to further expand upon these soundscapes).
