The work falls beautifully within the framework of the recognizable and iconic contemporary UK death-doom and dark death metal scene, following excellently in the footsteps of bands like Indesinence, Esoteric, Pantheïst, Grave Miasma and Cruciamentum, with its dismal atmospherics and oppressive onslaughts of dark, dissonant crushing, yet melodic guitar work. But Mortification Rites also brings a whole new breadth of darkness and destruction to the platter, often branching out into the same realms of infernal sonic maelstrom we've seen from Finnish dark death metal acts like Desolate Shrine, Maveth and particularly Krypts, to bring forth its own vision of absolute, abyssal death metal bedlam.

Disembody: The New Flesh is the second full-length studio album by the San Francisco metal band Skinlab. It was recorded in El Paso, Texas at the Village Studios and was produced by Andy Sneap. The album was originally released on February 23rd, 1999.

Offering up more dark, moody passages amidst the roaring repetitions and stomping guitars, Disembody: The New Flesh shows Skinlab to be intelligent songwriters as well as sonic destroyers. The addition of veteran guitarists Scott Sargeant (Killing Culture, Laaz Rockit) and Snake (Skrew) doesn't alter the essence of Skinlab's sound, but it does add more flexibility and unpredictability to their compositions and band interplay. As a result, it's an album worth of whispers from hell, bellowing demons, pummeling guitars, and 45 minutes of pure, metal mayhem.

Svart Records unveils “Sutra”, the new album from grand master avant-garde overlords Yakuza.

Formed in 1999, Chicago based heavy hybridizers Yakuza, are in a genre all of its own, which Pitchfork describe as a “a specialized and strange alloy”. So eclectic and hard to pigeon-hole, their music has been described over the years as everything from avant-garde metal, progressive metal, alternative metal to experimental rock, jazz metal, art metal and post-metal. Incorporating psychedelic rock jams that sprawl into heavy, sludging Doom with jazz influences, while also incorporating breakneck grind riffs and grooves, makes Yakuza’s new album “Sutra” a long awaited and insanely enjoyable feast of frequencies.

From their break-out debut album “Amount to Nothing” in 2000, which was met with critical acclaim, Yakuza have been a phenomenon in the world of heavy music, hot on the tongues of those who know. Their second album “Way of the Dead” in 2002 landed Yakuza a deal with Century Media and worldwide notoriety, securing them live slots with like-minded progressive heavyweights like Candira, Opeth, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Lacuna Coil and Mastodon. With a diamond back-catalogue of flawless genre breaking metal, having no stylistic constraints, Yakuza are maestros of highly creative, extreme music, ever ahead of the game.

Over 10 years after their last release, Yakuza have returned with “Sutra” losing none of their expansive and wildly artistic approach to pushing the boundaries of heavy music. “Sutra” leans in on redefining the limits of heavy and eclectic metal, with songs like Echoes From The Sky’s epic sung vocals and zig zagging slabs of juggernaut riffing, all sewn together with Voivod chords and King Crimson structures, never coming apart but embracing the delightfully chaotic. Like John Coltrane jamming with Napalm Death, Bruce Lamont (saxophone, clarinet, vocals) has discussed an appreciation for Pink Floyd, Huun Huur Tu, Peter Brötzmann, Battles, Enslaved, Brighter Death Now, George Orwell, Ethiopian music, and Blut Aus Nord, perfectly picking up on the multifaceted angles that Yakuza exhibits.

Target Earth is the thirteenth studio album, and the sixteenth release overall, by the Canadian heavy metal band Voivod, which was originally released in 2013. This is the first Voivod studio album to feature Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain on guitar (replacing the late Denis "Piggy" D'Amour) and the only one since 1991's Angel Rat with Jean-Yves "Blacky" Thériault on bass.

The main songwriters on Target Earth were Jean-Yves "Blacky" Theriault, in his first songwriting credit with Voivod since 1991, and Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain, who replaced Piggy. As Michel "Away" Langevin explained, Mongrain's role was both challenging and natural: "He had to think from his point of view how Voivod should sound like nowadays...He learned to play guitar listening to Voivod, and he knows all the albums, he's a fan of all the eras, so it feels very natural for him to write Voivodian material."

German post-metal formation THE Ocean will release their new album "Holocene" in May 2023, as usual there is an instrunemtal album available as well. With Holocene, The Ocean add the new and final chapter in their paleontologically inspired album series. This time, the hardness of the collective is extended by some electronic dimensions. Founded at the beginning of the millennium, the group of musicians around guitarist Robin Stapps has not lost its intensity even after more than 20 years. The Ocean come together each time with a shared vision of boundless sonic exploration, never standing still, the band enjoys a stellar reputation in the genres of post-rock, progressive metal and even hardcore. Robin Staps commented on the final work in the Paleontological album series: "Holocene is an appendix to the 2 Phanerozoic albums and Precambrian, or the final and concluding chapter, making it a quadrilogy if you will. It deals with the Holocene, the most recent and shortest chapter in Earth's history, but essentially it's an album about fear, alienation, the loss of reason and critical thinking, the rise of conspiracy theories and the deconstruction of values in modernity." On the creation process and electronic basis of the new tracks, he adds: "The writing process of every album we've ever done started with me coming up with a guitar riff, a drum beat or a vocal idea. This album is different because every single song is based on a musical idea originally written by Peter (Voigtmann, synthesizer). He came up with these amazing synth parts that sounded great even in pre-production, and he sent me some of these raw, unfinished ideas in the middle of "Lockdown 2020"... and even though it was all electronic, it had this definite Ocean vibe to it. I immediately wanted to pick up my guitar.... And I did, and it wasn't long before we had an inspiring creative exchange that went in completely unforeseen but very exciting directions." Reflections from an unseen world is the 4th album by Blue Dawn, Genoa’s finest Occult band and their best to date. The album is the first to feature guitar & keyboards player Davide Bruzzi (Il Segno del Comando), who played on tributes to Blue Oyster Cult and Death SS, but this is the first full length album in which he plays, since he joined the band in 2017, shortly after the release of their previous record. His work distinguishes the sound of the album, witch ranges from Heavy Doom to more progressive tracks, embellished by Bruzzi s keyboard touches and flamboyant yet emotional solos, on songs built on powerful and dark riffs created by Andrea Martino(guitar) and Enrico Lanciaprima(bass/vocals), punctuated by the solid drumming of Andrea Di Martino and valued by the gothic voice of singer Monica Santo. The album features some important special guests too: italian underground legend Mercy (Malombra, Il Segno del Comando/Ianva), who sings on the track “Shades”, James M. Jason(Gothic) who sings and plays piano on “Hostage of grudge” and the fabulous cover of Black Sabbath’s “Who are you” and multi instrumentalist Fulvio Pereda, who plays Mellotron and tablas on “Shades”. From the scriptures of grunge comes an emotional force that has been received through prayers directed at ALICE IN CHAINS. All of this is set forth in a new testament of blues-laden guitar-riffs and soulful vocals. With the friends playing together in various bands and line-ups since their youth, HIGH PRIEST came into being with a clear vision in mind. While watching an ELECTRIC WIZARD show in 2015, they spontaneously and simultaneously concluded that they wanted to play doom and old school metal from that day on (all while transfixed by the performance and having to shout their agreement over the din of the PA). Their first public declaration of the metal gospel was the 2016 EP "Consecration", which got HIGH PRIEST much attention throughout the doom and stoner metal scene as well as a record deal with Magnetic Eye, which led to the release of second EP "Sanctum" in 2019. And now the time has come to rejoice: HIGH PRIEST deliver their eagerly anticipated debut full-length, and "Invocation" doesn't just live up to what the two EPs promised, but will carry you straight to the heavens on a chariot of fiery riffs. Red flame with black hues vinyl, limited to 300 copies.In the fall of 2016, Jacob Lee (Hellish Form, PlasticBag FaceMask) and Stephen Muir (Cabin Fire) wanted to form a bleak and abrasive grindcore band with sludge and black metalinfluences. Inspired by acts such as Trap Them, The Secret, and Rotten Sound, Jacob and Stephen formed Elder Devil as a DIY studio project with Stephen providing vocals and lyricswhile Jacob handled music and production. They released their first EP Graves Among the Roots (Medusa Crush Recordings) in 2017 and followed up with the full length The LightDimmed Eternal (Crown and Throne Ltd./Roman Numeral Records) in 2019. Shortly after, Elder Devil began playing as a full band with good friends Ryan Urquidez (dontcryformeimalreadydead, Cabin Fire) on bass and Pete Ruacho (Amenthes, Nani SS) ondrums. Their 2021 EP, Fragments of Hell (PlasticSkull Records/SludgeLord Records), marked their first release as a full lineup.On signing with Prosthetic, Elder Devil says: "It's both exciting and humbling to be working with a label as prolific as Prosthetic. Metal Hall of Fame inductee, Blaze Bayley, releases a brand new live album, featuring versions of songs from his last studio album ‘War Within Me’ and also songs he wrote and/or performed during his time in Iron Maiden (1994-1999).

The 5 songs from ‘War Within Me’ were recorded on tour in the UK, and the remainder were recorded in France.

Having started his career as a professional singer with Wolfsbane in 1984, Blaze went on to front Iron Maiden, touring worldwide and releasing two studio albums - ‘The X Factor’ and ‘Virtual XI’, both of which achieved top twenty status in many countries. During his time with Iron Maiden, Blaze co-wrote the single ‘Man on the Edge’ (from ‘The X Factor’ album), a top ten hit in the UK, as well as charting successfully across Europe.

Following his exit from Iron Maiden he has pursued a solo career, beginning with his now legendary solo debut album ‘Silicon Messiah’ in 2000, followed by a further ten studio albums, including especially his sci-fi based ‘Infinite Entanglement’ trilogy (released in consecutive years 2016-2018) and the critically-acclaimed ‘War Within Me’ released in 2021.

Starting in 2013 and exclusively since 2016, Blaze records and plays live with Manchester (uk) melodic metal band Absolva, featuring lead guitarist Christopher Appleton and his brother Luke Appleton who is formerly of American metalheads Iced Earth. This consistent line-up is completed by drummer Martin Mcnee and bassist Karl Schramm.

As with all Blaze’s more recent works, he co-produces with Christopher Appleton and mastering is handled by Ade Emsley (Iron Maiden, Tank, Voodoo Six). Artwork is provided by Akirant Illustration (Iron Maiden, Star Wars).

Early in 2023, and in fact just 2 days before the start of a European tour, Blaze suffered a serious heart attack. With the required bypass surgery it’s expected that his recovery period will be several months, so the tour diary is currently being reconstructed. Details of the various postponements will be confirmed at a later date.
