Timbalero and vibraphonist Ernesto Antonio "Tito" Puente (1923–2000) is known for his Latin albums, their convoluted but accessible and feisty percussion segues and the introduction of the Mambo subgenre to North American ears. There is, however, only one album where he truly concentrates on the Latinized percussion side of things, and it may be both his most experimental or reduced and his best exotic work at the same time. This 1957 recordings - originally by the name of Top Percussion - brought together Tito, Mongo Santamaria, Willie Bobo, Aguabella and Julito Collazo on percussion with vocalists that included Mercedita Valdez, in seven wonderful cuts of traditional and (then) contemporary Afro-Cuban skin-on-skin. Then as an unexpected gift, there is a seven-minute Latin-jazz suite featuring Puente's considerable jazz-arranger head and a powerful band with Doc Severinson on lead trumpet.

Described by Matthew Garbutt on AllMusic as "one of Mexico's national cultural treasures", the award-winning drummer, composer, arranger, and bandleader Tino Contreras (1924-2021) recorded and performed internationally for more than 60 years. Blending Latin American music with jazz, he created his own original and adventurous sound. In 1957, Contreras formed his first quartet, which reflected an almost bewildering range of influences. Some key albums from this period include Jazz Tropical (presented here) and Jazz a Paris (both from 1962), Jazz Ballet (1963), and Misa en Jazz (1966). All throughout his extended career, Contreras remained a champion of the jazz form in Mexico, winning the National Festival of Jazz award each year between 1959 and 1966. The We Jazz Records release "Live Recordings 2019-2020" follows the duo's 2019 LP which was shortlisted for "Jazz Album Of the Year" at Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards. "A powerful fusion of Scandinavian jazz and New Orleans' rich musical heritage, the upcoming album by Finnish duo Jukka Eskola (trumpet) and Timo Lassy (saxophone) is a remarkable testament to the power of collaboration and connection. Rooted in their long history of playing together, shared love for jazz and their strong individual sounds which become even stronger when combined, the project was born from a desire to explore and create something unique together.

The duo traveled to New Orleans, a city that lives and breathes music, with its streets filled with sounds of jazz, marching bands, and local traditions like Mardi Gras. The city's unique vibe and architecture, dating back to the 19th century, made it the perfect backdrop for their musical journey. The decision to work in New Orleans was also influenced by the city's history of connecting with Finnish culture. Around 100 years ago, Finnish immigrants traveled to the United States and later returned to Finland, bringing jazz records and influencing the development of Finnish jazz.

"Shadow Theater" is the fifth album by armenian pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan and his second release on Verve released in 2013.

In reference to an ancestral art of his country, Hamasyan plunges the listener into an imaginary, dreamlike world that owes as much to Tim Burton as to the tradition of shadow theatre. The album is packed with dozens of figurines that inhabit the pianist's head, from the labyrinthine metal of Meshuggah to the jazz fusion of Chick Corea, from Madlib to Sigur Rós and Steve Reich. Hamasyan explores both electronic and sonic avenues, proving himself to be a dazzling songwriter as well as a singer with a fragile timbre.

This 140-gram vinyl is the first international vinyl reissue, pressed at Pallas, and is presented in a gatefold jacket.

The new Danish neo-soul duo Tigeroak consists of Laurits Steen Moberg, an electronic musician, producer, and guitarist, and Anna Prinds, vocalist and lyrical composer. Tigeroak draws inspiration among underground jazz, hip-hop and neo-soul environments, which mixed with their Nordic influences, all contribute to the duo"s nuanced palette of sounds. By combining neo-soul features with electronic hip-hop grooves, melodic choruses and figurative lyrics, they aim to create a space for everybody to enjoy music with an experimental focus. Tigeroak was in 2022 selected for Jazz Danmark"s National Jazz Competition and performed twice in the very popular national television show DR"s: "Sammen - hver for sig". Their concert at the festival "Jazz and Roots"" was nominated to a Danish Music Award for "most innovative concert experience of the year". Recently the duo has played multiple concerts in Paris, and have recently travelled to London, to record for their future album inAngel-and Abbey Road Studios.
