Million Seller is the new electro-acoustic album and project led by Matt Calvert, one of the founding members of the underground alt-rock sensation Three Trapped Tigers. The inspiration for the project originated as Matt revisited his collection of early 70s releases by Herbie Hancock"s Mwandishi group - some of the pianist"s most overlooked and least understood albums. Mwandishi had three horn players: Million Seller has none, instead using three synth players: Calvert himself is joined by Stale Storlokken of free-form experimental legends Supersilent, and by the unclassifiable improvisor Matthew Bourne. The line-up is completed by drummer Dave Smith, who brings his comprehensive knowledge of the Gambian tradition of Sabar drumming alongside his extensive jazz background.

Electric Telepathy Vol. 2 is the latest installment from legendary multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter (tenor sax, soprano sax, trumpet, flute) together with Patrick Holmes (clarinet), Matthew Putman (keyboard), Hilliard Greene (bass) & Federico Ughi (drums), also known as the Telepathic Band. This new LP follows their previous albums Telepathic Alliances, Telepatia Liquida, and Electric Telepathy, Vol. 1, and Telepathic Mysteries, Vol. 1, further exploring in-the-moment themes and landscapes. On Electric Telepathy the band used material from a recording session in which they improvised, then went to recreate the album in the studio’s cutting-room floor. Joe Petrucelli of JFA shared, “The Jazz Foundation of America deeply appreciates the artists, songwriters and label teams who contributed to this project with such compassion and generosity. As pandemic restrictions continue to lift, we recognize that musicians will face a particularly lengthy recovery. They were among the first to be hit by the effects of the crisis and will be among the last to achieve a true sense of normalcy or stability. We and our partners are here for the long haul.”

Among the featured artists are Herbie Hancock, Joshua Redman, Christian McBride, IRMA and LEO, Cécile McLorin Salvant and more. The highly hailed pianist Herbie Hancock commented, “I'm honored to be part of this meaningful project that supports the important work of the Jazz Foundation, who has always been there for musicians going through tough times. They have been an especially critical resource for the community during the pandemic, helping those in need of medical care, putting food on the table and paying their rent.”

While the album supports musicians across the industry, it also commemorates the artists whose lives were lost to the pandemic and throughout the year, including Wallace Roney and Jimmy Heath. The collaboration illustrates the camaraderie among labels and musicians, tying together the talents of a roster of stars to support the people who have brought the world together through music.
