Drawing from Lorraine Hansberry’s recorded speeches and interviews, we’ve assembled a body of interrelated narratives and composed 12 tracks around them. These narratives address not only the burning issues of Lorraine’s past, present and future but, through her extraordinary vision, ours as well. Complimented by additional posthumous words from Coretta Scott King and EF Schumacher along with bridges to the present drawn by UK poet Mr Gee, a compelling portrait of an extraordinary woman emerges.

The aphelion is the point in the orbit of an object when it is furthest from the sun. Metaphorically speaking, the world of today feels further from the light than ever before. Lorraine Hansberry was among the few in her time who recognised that we are heading in perilous directions. Through her depth of historical knowledge she understood that this hadn’t changed much over many centuries as we’ve remained unable to widely perceive the underlying mechanics of our world. Alas, the world she fought so hard to illuminate still has a dangerously dim outlook. We need her light now more than ever to help guide us out of the darkness.

This tribute is, perhaps selfishly, a way of keeping Lorraine Hansberry alive and hopefully expanding the reach of her legacy. As long as she’s still talking and people are still listening, some part of her lives in the present. To us, in these dark times, that is a deeply comforting thought.

Italian Jazz Fusion quartet H-Owl Project are releasing their next single ‘Sea of Tranquility’ via the alternative label Group BraCil. The two-track release realises the groups’ modern jazz roots, but with shades of Progressive Rock, Soul and Hip Hop all being present throughout. Founded in 2019 of Apulian and Lucanian descent, the four piece is made up of Rossella Palagano (Vocals), Nicolò Petrafesa (Piano), Vito Faretina (Bass) and Graziano Pennetta (Drums). The group had recently been making waves at the 2019 Novi Sad Jazz Marathon in Serbia and even went on to win the Onyx Jazz Festival as best musical act in the same year. Alas, Covid has made a group that once thrived on the environment of live music now start to venture the dark resources of the web to make their music heard

“Death Cult & Armenian Paper” is HONE's first and long awaited LP. The 12 tracks feature DMC World Supremacy Champion Nelson Scratch, IDA French Champion DJ Madpressure, DJ T-Killa & Mighty Vinc' and Bonzer.

The beats were crafted at HONE's Antechamber Studio on the MPC 2500 and feature obscure samples ranging from free jazz to electronic soundscape, recorded guitar leaks, synths, heavy drums and solid basses, the whole spiced with haunting percussions.

HONE’s sound is slow, heavy and represents the vanguard of the European beat making movement, while at the same time checking all the boxes of the hip hop code. A style he simply calls “Doom Bap”.

“Death Cult & Armenian Paper is a very personal work, representing the duality, a journey between day and night, sweet and sour, life and death, good and evil. It’s been a long time in the making”, the artist offers.

Jabbu's debut LP with Inner Ocean Records has been carefully crafted to take you on an instrumental ride into the great beyond. Mixing a wide range of genres (such as ambient, trip-hop, new-age, and synthwave), The Quiet Respite is a hypnotic mix of colourful synthesizers and percussion coming together to form a timeless piece of art.

Kicking the album off, "loss of identity" is a heavy, grandiose trip-hop track the submerges the listener into the cosmic world of Jabbu. Calm ambient moments are sprinkled throughout, like on the delirious cut "Slumped in the rain" or during the second half of "Space Ethos". Chaotic and gritty synths pepper tracks like "bad Time" and "a lifetime of regrets". The ever-so-talented Howiewonder and SamuW both appear on the tracklist, adding their own unique style of instrumental flair into the mix. The line between bright/angelic and dark/cavernous is blurred on the track "decompose". The 10 track experience finishes off with "200 years from now", one last stroll through the graveyard of your life before departure.

With great notoriety for his reworks across SoundCloud, London native, K, Le Maestro has forged an undeniable signature sound for himself and has made his way from making beats for himself in his bedroom to having his edits widespread across the internet and garnering popularity in the outside world among DJs and music heads alike and earning his co-signs from i.e. Soulection or House Shoes. Now by the age of 22 K, Le Maestro truly has become a master of his art; fusing between different genres while maintaining the signature knock that his instrumentals provide and is now ready to presents his debut album “whip Music”.

The album’s 1st single „why Can’t WE? - a masterclass in playing with momentum and anticipation, showcasing K’s razor sharp feel for building soundscapes and capturing a 90s R&B/HipHop vibe – got picked up by Apple Music’s “Beatstrumentals” Playlist right away. The carefully curated layers of instrumentation make the track meld together into a laid-back, yet head-banger kind of wave.

The 2nd single “out Late” features US singer Amaria and has become a sonic celebration, marrying modern R&B with old-school funk. The angelic voice of Amaria creates a sensual, intimate setting that sits perfectly within K's production of lush synths, heavy drums and a booming bass line. The song will be accompanied by a full length music video.

The 3rd and final single “backseat” features singer Nápoles and feels like a modern take on 90ies R&B ballad complemented by Nápoles´ gentle vocal delivery, reminding of heavyweights such as H.E.R or 90ies super-group EnVogue with its lush harmonies and the smooth instrumentation, contrasted with another heavy synth bass line. The single will also feature a full-length music video.

The album’s artwork was designed by the artist himself while the record contains a double-sided DIN A2 poster, showing the album cover in black & white on one and an alternate anime cover version on the other side.

When There’s Love Around is an album of two halves. The first is “about feeling small and insignificant and stressed,” Kiefer says. “It’s about things that cause me to worry, but at the end of the day, are probably unimportant from a larger cosmic perspective.”

The nostalgia of looking through old childhood pictures in one of the lead tracks, “I remember this picture,” is reflected on the album cover, a Polaroid of Kiefer and his sister, painted by Mikey Yates.

The album’s second half is more reflective and spiritual, its cathartic mood occasioned by the loss of Kiefer’s beloved grandmother. While grief and loss are main themes, the tone is still largely positive – Kiefer describes himself as an optimist.

Kiefer assembled a band of his favorite musicians, including DJ Harrison, Andy McCauley, Josh Johnson, Will Logan, Sam Wilkes and other jazz luminaries. They laid the album down in three sets of sessions over 2020, including one stint at Jazzy Jeff’s studio after the DJ invited Kiefer to record there. Several songs were recorded in one or two takes, with any mistakes left in, true to Kiefer’s preference for music that feels spontaneous and from the heart. Kiefer has long performed with a live band, and found the setup suited the communal spirit he was striving for on this album: “I find something about the Herculean type of jazz performer really alienating. I want to celebrate human connection,” he explains.

The Content Label presents an evocative album titled Mirror World by Budapest based beat-maker Kovacs the Hun. Born Nándor Kürtössy in northern Hungary, Kovacs is known for his groundbreaking album Five Finger Discount under the name Savages, and his involvement with the musical project Savages y Suefo. Mirror World features a sonic palette of hip hop, jazz, and eerie soundtracks mixed colorfully with experimental treatments and traditional musical influences. Mirror World reflects all of Kovacs’ fascinations — sounds and genres coming together on a collective surface. At times, Mirror World resembles chamber jazz — or, perhaps, ‘free jazz’ — with brushed drums, lurking horns, and cunning keys providing the backbone. Flavored drops of percussion, turntable scratches, or rhythm hints at contemporary roots, but Kovacs presents something that is outside-of-time. He stretches out on the instrumental tracks, displaying moods that move freely from ominous to reassuring. Guest artists add to this bubbling concoction. World-renowned Saxophonist András Wahorn adds instrumentation to the creeping strut of “Manimals” and “Glimpse of Hope”; The Audible One drops quotable verses on “Phoney”; guitarist Márton Süto plays spacious guitar on the worldly “The Countdown”; and the Minnesota based poets & activists, Guante and See More Perspective inject social commentary into “Long March.” Kovacs’ Mirror World is a distinctive statement, not sounding quite like anything else. The album’s ten tracks, impeccably produced and musically proficient, are an adventure in listening. Embark now on a sonic journey. His first analog sampler / multitrack recorder was a Roland SP-808 combined with "two turntables and a mic" and some other studio gear. After trying to combine sounds for the first time on a borrowed MPC 2000XL it became his passion! He is surrounding himself with dusty drums and samples until this day!

In the early 2000's he started to record his first rap album "Nur die Besten Überleben" as a member of the German rap group Kritische Disstanz. This project was released 4 years later in collaboration with Berlin based Teroa Label by Akte One. This was also the first LP mastered by Chillerdt in the BKStudio (Berlin) and many more followed after! This collaboration tightened over the years and last until now!

One day at the beginning of the recent worldwide mix up which affected most of us, this led to a decision between moving to the studio and chill with the closest ones or just let it flow and push the pads on MPC Renaissance and start to release some instrumental music using extra free time in a productive way. That was definetely a good decision and after a plenty of motivating feedback it became the master plan to create the “ILL Vibe” instrumental LP!

Last year, Brooklyn’s Krts released Remixes for Beards and Flannels, a mix-tape of top shelf classics from hip-hop’s ‘80s and ‘90s heyday. This September, he’ll follow this with his newest and first-ever proper EP release, Hold On, on the Berlin label Project Mooncircle.

With sounds ranging from the eclectic side of Hip-Hop, Broken Beat, Downtempo, soulful Dubstep, Indie Rock, and Fusion Jazz, Krts crafts a soundtrack to an ever-changing NYC landscape, fraught with struggles and flashbacks of what-was, all while letting go of ideals in favor of a new, raw, and heartfelt future. The album’s title track, "Hold On”, concerns the battle of a fleeting love – electronic and psychedelic sounds lead to a heavy, mid-range looped chorus and a deep, rumbling dubstep-style bassline. A taste of struggle is represented in “Whatever”, with it’s 808 kicks, layered snare, eerie and rattling samples, sweeping syths, and improvised piano… all as an ode to the cluttered market of Brooklyn’s indie art scene.

23 minutes in 5 tracks, with a bonus remix of “Hold On” by Afro-House/2-Step artist Glenn Astro. Beat culture thumbed and molded into one emotive EP.

This project started from beats videos, where I had the most fun making music during this weird period that impact creativity and inspiration. I added some of my favorites beats, blended together in a 16 minutes mix oscillating between short and longer pieces. It went from the idea to the final product in the shortest amount of time, and it was exactly what I wanted, what I was looking for: something that was particularly effective, memorable, and familiar: something that just ring the bell.

Watercolor is Lttl’s fantastic debut album, released by Los Angeles’s iconic Cold Busted label. The western NY-state beat-maker was trained as a live drummer, but, thanks to a sonic encounter with the sound of MF Doom, emerged as an instrumental hip-hop enthusiast. Lttl’s musical palette is composed of phat and precise rhythms mixed with what he calls “psychedelic elevator music.” Watercolor’s 17 tracks display his technique, resulting in tight, laid-back vibes that groove for days. Lttl’s obsession with colors and the natural world is revealed in the hue-named song titles. “Vermillion Blue” opens Watercolor, ringing electric piano and crisp, classy drums leading into a strange sax-like melody. “Lemon Yellow” is next, sounding like the on-hold music for the chillest of skate shops. When Madlib went to Brazil in 2002 with Mochilla to participate in the production of the Brazilintime documentary, his one mission was to meet Ivan “Mamao” Conti, the drummer of the legendary trio Azymuth. Madlib had made an Azymuth tribute record he wanted to play for him. On a rainy night in Rio, Mamao and Madlib went in the studio. Several hours later the rhythm tracks that make up Sujinho were laid and the process began. Featuring the music of Madlib, Mamao, Edu Lobo, Chico Buarque de Hollanda, Luiz Eca, Baden Powell, Vinicius De Moraes, Marcos Valle, Joao Donato, Dom Um Romao, Airto Moreira and even George Duke… and with guest vocals by Thalma De Freitas — Sujinho is a unique and classic record.
